USB suddenly not recognizing devices

Hello,
I have a problem.
My MacBook Pro suddenly stopped recognizing usb devices. This morning everything was working fine, but for some reason a couple of hours later it's not working anymore.
I can connect my phone via usb and it's reloading the battery. I can't get into my files though, while I was able to do that this morning.
My MaKey MaKey also gets power and the lights flash. I can use it to play an online game. It isn't being recognized as an usb device though, and I can't upload new code to it.
I haven't changed anything between the point it was working and the point it is not working anymore.
The only change is that I've tried to connect my MaKey MaKey and upload code to it. But that didn't work, because it said there was nothing connected to my usb port. That's how I found out that it was broken.
I have tried resetting my PRAM and SMC but it both didn't help.

Thanks for your answer.
I already tried the things listed in the link you sent, but unfortunately they didn't work.
However, a few hours after I posted my question things started working again. I can connect my phone again, and the MaKey MaKey shows up in the USB list if you go to About this Mac. Still can't upload anything to it though.
But I guess my problem is solved.

  • Firewire and USB ports not recognizing devices

All of a sudden, some of our MacBooks don't recognize firewire and usb devices. It's weird, but after about a week, one of the MacBooks suddenly started recognizing a video camera, again, but it's troubling because my users need to be able to import movies and pictures from digital devices.
We ran the updates, and it did not help. We have been using these devices with our MacBooks for over a year, and this happened at the worst possible time. Any ideas?
I've tried both self- and AC-powered devices, rebooted, powered off and on, made sure everything is plugged in, etc.

    Try Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Computer suddenly not recognizing device

My computer is not recognizing my iPhone 5 when I plug it in to transfer purchases and update.  I have had the phone for awhile and it was working just fine.

Great! It's not the first thing you think of, but my philosophy is "when in doubt, reboot." What probably happened is the AppleMobileDeviceService crashed. This is the easiest way to restart it.

  • USB is not recognizing the device and giving error 10

My PC USB is not recognizing the device (iphone) and giving error 10.. The USb is malfunctioning but ipod is getting connected easliy

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • Windows PC suddenly not recognizing iPhone. Recognizes another iPhone just fine. USB works until operating system in PC (XP) loads. Any clues out there?

Windows suddenly not recognizing iPhone, yet recognizes another iPhone fine (sees in iTunes, etc.) USB appears to be fine - passes electrical to iPhone until operating system (XP) boots, and then "disconnects". I've gone through all of Apples suggestions for troubleshooting - including msconfig. Same result - quick double "bong" tone and no connectivity to iTunes. Versions are all up-to-date.
    Any suggestions out there?

How did you get the VMWare sync to work? I hate Apple at this point.

iPhone 3G plugged into PC(Windows 7) 'USB is Not Recognized' and unable to restore; stuck on 'Connect to iTunes'
I was in the process of putting another firmware for my iPhone(an .ipsw via. itunes) and the house had a power cut. The computer was in the middle of restoring the iPhone but never finished. The apple logo came on and then came onto the 'connect to itunes' screen. My sim card was in but there is no option to slide for emergency. When I Plug it into my computer, a message pops up saying that the 'USB Device Not Recognized', I've tried to plugging my iPhone into my laptop and other Computers but the same message occurs (all windows 7). Other articles say that the error is with the iPhone, I need help!! Can anybody offer some advice on what to do?

  • "USB Hardware Not Recognized by Windows"

Please help. I keep getting an error mssage "USB Hardware not Recognized by Windows" I believe i have tried it all. Uninstalled Itunes. Reinstalled Itunes.
Okay I just tried pluggin it in as I typed this and it worked. The only thing I did diffrent was I unplugged my External Back-up drive.
Is this Common? Can anyone help explain this to me?

I have a combo floppy drive/USB 2.0 card reader and I believe I have the same problem.
I'm not over-clocking and while USB shows up in WinXP in device manager the card reader is not recognized by the system even though I KNOW I have it connected correctly.  The floppy works fine.
I believe the 4 USB ports on the mobo are non-functional but can't test it until Thursday sometime.
Hopefully this is correctable with a BIOs update.
Anyone else have issues with the USB ports on the mobo and if so, were you able to fix it?  How?

    Hello Lenovo Forums!
I have a t61p 6450CTO lovely work laptop that I adore ... upgrading now to 500gb and 4 g of ram ... but I recently restored to original second tier (saved my files) and ... to get Lenovo ThinkVantage working again and System Update. It works great!
Now I cannot upgrade to SP1 on Vista home premium. Also USB HUBS not recognized, (can't print) even after going into bios and updating USB to enable and enable all the time --- AND cannot install Windows Updates except SOME one at a time. So I recently ordered Windows Vista upgrade might help and have a fresh operating system yes?

try resetting your phone by turning it off and back on again. The servers may still be having a hard time keeping up, so you may just need to wait a little while and try again.

  • USB Issue - Not recognizing ANY device

I am having a problem with my USB ports.
First of all, I have a IBM Thinkpad T42 - model number 2373-9XU.
I have the latest BIOS and all the latest drivers for the USB ports.
The issue just started a couple days ago.  Whenever I plug in a USB device, such as my IPod or my Smartphone, it is NOT recognized by my computer.  However, any device that I plug into the USB port will start charging.  So, I know there is power to the USB ports.
I have uninstalled the USB drivers and reinstalled them, still having the same issue.
Also another note, I was looking through the device manager under System Devices and there was a yellow exclamation point next to "ISAPNP Read Data Port".  The error code on it was "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
    Any suggestions?
PS.  I have tried to reinstall the BIOS, but when I do that it says "No update is needed at this time" and won't let me install it.  Is there a workaround to that?

So, I looked at the Services information on the Recover and Restore startup utility (pushing the AccessIBM button during startup) and found the following:
    Service: upnphost
Name: Universal Plug and Play Device Host
    Status: Stopped
       (Previous Status: Running)
    Startup: Manual/On-Demand)
    Path: c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe
    Vendor: Microsoft Corporation
    Version: 5.1.2600.2180
        (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
Could this also have something to do with the USB ports not working properly?

  • TOUCHSMART 520 PC NOT RECOGNIZING DEVICES IN THE USB PORT.

When I plug any devices into the USB port, they are not recognized.  The computer acts as if they are not there.  The devices (MP3, camera, Garmin, etc) turn on, so I know that they are connected.  The Printer and wireless mouse that connect through the USB port still work and I have tried changing ports...it doesn't make any difference.  Even if I try to search for thr device, the computer does not find it.  Any ideas?

  • External Hard Disk SUDDENLY NOT RECOGNIZED!

The mac is suddenly no longer recognizing my external hard drive. I have called apple support, but the only solution they suggest is for me to bring it into an Apple store for a repair... Unfortunately I don-t have the time right now to go to an apple sotre, and I was wondering if any of you out there had a solution,
ISSUE: External Drive (Buffalo Ministation 1TB) no longer recognized by mac.
    INFORMATION/TESTS:
    - PRAM AND SMC rests were done, but this made no change.
    - Safe boot and login with another account didnt change anything
    - Disk doesnt appear on disk utility
    - Did another update of OS X 10.8.2
    - The external drive works fine on other macs and PCs so the external drive it self is fine.
    - All the USB ports are fully funcitional with other USB sticks and External hard drives.
    PROBLEM:
I believe and so does the apple care, that the computer is no longer supplying sufficient power to the external drive in order for it to run.
    Does anyone know a fix?
OR, is it possible that a hard disk, which has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 capabilities, suddenly stops working on USB 3.0 ports but continues working on a USB 2.0 port? I have no other USB3.0 ports in my hands in order to test the device!
    Thanx for your help!

  • External Hard Nrive Suddenly Not Recognized...

I've had my 200GB Western Digital external hard drive for almost two years. About 3 days ago it suddenly wasn't recognized by my Macbook. It's disappeared from Finder, it's not in Disk Utility, and I don't know how to fix it. It powers up when I plug it into the USB drive, but none of the 170GB of music files that I store on it can be found by iTunes.
I'm convinced that I'm basically screwed.
Someone please tell me that I'm wrong.
