USB/Sync Cable

My iPhone 3G is not one year old yet, but the USB/Sync cable that came with it is ripping on both ends exposing the wire underneath. Is this covered under warranty?

it is covered by apple care. i have had to have mine replaced twice not for the same issue

  • USB sync cable different for CDMA and GSM version phones?

I recently ordered a USB sync cable for Iphone 4S from ebay. I want to know whether the USB sync cable for Iphone 4S is different for CDMA and GSM version phones? And if they are then what are the likely consequences if they are interchanged and used inadvertantly.

All recent iDevices use the same type of connector/cable.

  • Missing usb sync cable

Hi, my neighbor upgraded to the Sprint Evo and I bought her Palm Treo 700wx for Sprint. Her USB sync cable was damaged or something; she didn't have it. Do I need that to sync with my work computer, or can I sync "wirelessly" using the exchange server ?
Sorry if this is dumb; i am totally new to smartphones

Your email, contacts, calendar, and tasks can sync over the air with Exchange. Pictures, music, etc., do not. Did the 700wx have Bluetooth? That might provide an alternate way to sync those local items.

  • Poorly made iPhone USB sync cable

Here I sit with 3 USB cables acquired by 3 different iPhone 3G purchases and all of them are tearing near the connectors. My girlfriend and I aren't rough with our stuff and I never had this problem with any of my iPod dating back to generation 1.
Anybody else noticing a degrading quality in the USB cables?
    What is Apple's replacement policy?

FYI - you don't need to drive 40 miles to an Apple store. You can handle everything over the phone by calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466. AppleCare will ship a replacement USB cable to your home or where you work - someone will need to sign for it, and you will return the defective cable in the same box that Apple ships the exchange to you.

Does the old cable charge and work with the new phone?

I used the same old cable from my previous phone with the new one. The new one is still wrapped up in the box.

  • Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm afraid that's to be expected in most cases, you need to turn your TV speakers off.

  • Unable to charge from sync cable

After installing activesysnc 4.5 I can't seem to make my phone charge from the usb sync cable.  I know there is power coming through the cable because it would charge my Palm 700p through the palm desktop software.  Is there a setting that I just can't find?  I've installed the Palm software and installed and reinstalled activesync 4.5.

Thanks all.  I tried the rocking motion and it came out (after putting all of my 6'4" and 240lbs behind it)!  In looking at the plug, the two retaining tangs have a 90* angle on them which explains why it won't come out.  I tried bending them to make the angle larger (so it holds without locking) but they are too small to get at.  So,I guess I'll call Palm and see if I can get replacement as I think they shouldn't be like this.

  • Can the usb sync/power cable that came with the iPhone 3g and 4 handle the 2.1 amps drawn by the ipad 2 (if used with the 10w plug) without risk of overheating?

I recently made the mistake of buying a cheap sync cable from a well known auction site becuase I wanted a longer cable than comes in the box for my ipad 2.
Whilst my iPad will sync OK, it takes an age to charge (using the standard 10w plug in the wall). I don't fully understand the science in the cables, but assume it is not a big enough cable to handle the current/2.1 amps?.
If like house wire you send too much current through a cable that is to small for the job it risks overheating and causing a fire.
Does this same principle apply to the iPad power lead?
Anyway back to the question, can I use other leads I have hanging around the house from my previous iphones and ipods to charge my ipad (again still using the 10w plug in the wall) or will the cable in these be too small to handle the 2.1 amps required by the ipad?
I don't want to risk overheating the cables and causing a short to break my beloved iPad 2...!

    Thanks for your replies.
Not sure they entirely answer my question though.
I have used my different cables and can see that they are actually working (charging and syncing etc), but am i using old cable that was not intended to draw 2.1 amps and so may overheat and cause damage in the long run?
Or did apple deliberately over engineer the original cables which were only needed to supply 1 amp and they can actually be used to draw 2.1 amps comfortably?
Whilst the 30 pin connectors and usb points are identical, is the internal cable thickness/awg gauge the same?
    Thanks

  • E72 - Calendar not syncing via USB data cable (Out...

    PROBLEM:
Syncing the E72-2 Calendar to Outlook over USB Data cable returned synchronization errors.
    HISTORY:
Previously was using MfE and Google Calendar as a go-between from Outlook 2003 to my E72. It worked OK for a couple of weeks, but then turned to **** (appointments disappearing from phone, duplicates that couldn't be deleted, sending tons of 'decline' messages to work colleagues from my personal Gmail account...etc. etc.)  It is abundantly clear that MfE and Google Calendar were not meant to play together at this point in time.
Next strategy was to use PC Suite to sync with the Outlook calendar directly via cable.  This was not successful either.  The default Sync profile on the phone only offers Data Bearer of Bluetooth or GPRS, no cable.  Sure enough, PC Suite would fail immediately with 0 events synced, saying to check the Idle status of the phone.
    SOLUTION that worked for me:
    Overview:
    - Delete all calendar entries on the phone, even those that are 'stuck'. (Note: you DON'T need to wipe your phone for this - that is Nokia's lazy solution but there are easier ways.)
    - Run PC Suite Cleaner from Nokia
    - Reinstall PC Suite
    - Run PC Suite, connect the phone via USB only when prompted
    - Configure the Sync profile on the phone
    - Configure the Sync application on the PC
    - Sync!
    Details:
0a. Clean off all calendar entries from the phone. To get rid of stubborn ones, you can try to sync the phone via bluetooth or internet to an empty Google or other calendar to remove all entries. (I did this by syncing to an empty iCal calendar on my Mac)  Alternatively, you can also connect the phone to PC Suite, then open the phone calendar in PC Suite and delete all appointments using the trash can button.  (Recurring series will only need to be deleted once.)
0b. Exit PC Suite.  Ensure it is not still running in the Taskbar.
    1. Run the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner, downloadable from Nokia's support site. Restart when prompted.
    2. Re-install PC Suite version 7.1.40.6
    3. Run PC Suite before connecting the phone.
3a. Select Cable connection, then connect the phone when prompted.
3b. PC Suite should install the necessary drivers and software (if this is working, you will see several USB device popups in your taskbar.)
    4. On the phone, go to Ctrl Panel --> Phone --> Sync.
4a. If you have been messing around with MfE or other sync methods, delete those extraneous sync profiles from the phone. Go to "Change Active Profile" - if you see anything besides 'PC Suite', select it and then choose 'Delete' from the Options menu.
4b. After any extra Sync profiles are gone, the phone will default back to 'PC Suite.' Ensure the PIM data you wish to sync (Calendar, etc.) is selected with a red X.
4c. It does not seem to matter what you select for Data Bearer - I am using Bluetooth and that's working even though the target PC does not have it.
4d. 'Allow sync requests' should be set to 'Automatically accept'
4e. For 'Synchronization type' select the value that works for you. ('To phone only')
    5. Run the Sync application in PC Suite.
5b. Ensure the phone has not automatically locked itself.
5c. Click the 'Sync' button in the PC Sync app.
5d. You should see Connecting....Waiting....Reading.....etc.  while the content is syncing.
5e. If it stops after Waiting and returns a communication error, you may need to try the above steps again, and/or do a clean install on your phone. :-(
Hope this helps someone out there.   Note that this is mostly from memory, so if I inadvertently skipped any steps or if anything needs further clarification, please respond to this thread to help future readers.

Herve55 I can confirm that the DC-6 (remember to buy the the one with USB-micro connection) works.
However the only reason for me wanting to use the supplied USB to USB-micro cable in the car (with 3rd party cigarette adapter) was to first, get rid of that annoying spiral cord and second to have the data cable with me at all times.
Sad to say that I´eve by now definitely tried all possible solutions for the data cable "CA-101" without any luck.
My N97 witch I was very satisfied with at start started to burn battery, reboot, loose memory, become sluggish and then after 8 months of aggravation i sent it on a flyer in the wall.
I have now after 15 years changed brand.
Conclusively the guys at Nokia seems to carry to many models for any possibility of making further great phones! in other words they´v gone sloppy.

  • Syncing iPad & iPod...  device USB port cable connector question

I have an iPad & iPod 4th gen.... both syncing cables look identical..no identity markings on either. I'm not sure now which came with which device.
QUESTION: Are the syncing/charging ( know I can't charge iPad off USB port) cables given with purchase interchangable for these 2 devices?
    Thanks!

Yes, the cables work the same. It is an Apple proprietary 30 pin connector.
The chargers are different. The iPhone/iPod charger is 5 watt. The iPad charger is 10 watt. But you can use the iPad charger with iPhones/iPods because it is self limiting.

  • IPhone Docking Station with USB Sync port AND Clock/Radio/Hi-Fi Function?

    Anyone know of any?
Had a quick google, just got shown loads of cradles.
Anyone seen any with all or most of the features I listed in the subject field?
(Main ones being USB Sync & play music through)
So that I can keep my phone in the one place and sync it from there.
(Obviously I know you can't sync and play music at the same time)
Or anyone know of any other similar solutions?

Airport Express USB port does not support data - only printers. You need the Airport Extreme if you want to share a hard drive.
I'd be interested to know if you can achieve your goal with one AE, although I'm starting to suspect that you need two AEs or you need to connect your original non-apple router to the AE via an ethernet cable. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong.

  • Can USB extension cable from nano burn out tower's USB port?

I recently plugged my 1GB nano into my Mac flatscreen's USB port and got a message that this port was too slow. I used it anyway but it did take a looong time to charge the nano. Normally I use the two ports in the screen to park a couple of dongles and since that port is slow for iPod purposes , I decided to buy an unpowered USB hub, 1 to 4 variety to run from the tower.
My G4 is in a closet with a not-so-accessible port on the back so I have a 6 foot extender cable coming from the tower which connects to the hub and from there I plug in my camera and keyboard - but so far not the nano. The guy at the store where I got the hub told me that an iPod nano recieving power from this settup might burn out the USB port in the back of my G4. So I haven't tested that! Anyone know if this is true or if it's just uniformed blather from a drugstore computer sales tech?

The "too slow" message you received has nothing to do with how long it takes to charge the Nano, it is telling you it will take longer to sync the Nano. If the port on the screen charged your Nano it didn't take any longer than any other port will.
A USB extension cable will not burn out the USB port on your computer.
