USB to HDMI adapter for external display in clamshell mode?

Hello.
Does anyone know of a USB to HDMI (or DVI) adapter so that I can connect an external display (with an HDMI or DVI cable) to a USB port on my Macbook air?
I need to run it in clamshell mode, mirroring the Air display. The Monoprice  USB to HDMI adapter (which uses DislplayLink drivers) I tried does not work properly in clamshell mode with mirroring (though it works in arrangement mode).  I know I can use the Thunderbolt port, but I need to leave this free for a Firewire device.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem, but using USB devices and Displaylink software.  I know there are issues with Displaylink software as they say the problem is with Apple.  I have three external monitors with a late 2008  I Macbook Pro which gives me four screens.  I was able to get two to work + the Macbook, but there were so many issues, like you described, that I have given up and I am just using the Mini Display port which gives me one external and the Macbook.  Looks like we will just have to wait until Apple does something.  I have found no other solutions at this point - hardware or otherwise.

  • Micro USB to HDMI adapter support on Encore 2 WT8-B-102

    I would like to know, if there is any chance to connect this tablet to TV/Monitor through the micro usb port by attaching a micro usb to HDMI adapter? If yes, is there any specific adapter being compatible with this Tablet device?
    Thanks for the support
    Alex

    First of all it’s not possible to use USB port (micro USB) in order to output the video signal. The USB port does not support such functionality.
    According to the tablet's specification page the WT8-B does not support video out interface (HDMI etc..) and therefore it's not possible to connect it directly to the TV device.

  • Is there a firewire to HDMI adapter for IPAD 4?

    Is there a firewire to HDMI adapter for IPAD 4?

    It's called the "Lightning" connector. Here is the adapter you need:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter
    The Lightning Digital AV Adapter mirrors exactly what you see on your device so that everyone in the room can enjoy it on your widescreen TV, video projection screen, or other HDMI-compatible display. The Lightning Digital AV Adapter also supports video out for watching movies, TV shows, and more.
    You can also stream wirelessly using AirPlay but that requires Apple TV. Streaming music or other audio requires an AirPort Express or compatible device.

  • Will the HDMI adapter for the Ipad serve as an output AND an input?

    I do a lot of video productions and could use an extra moniter on site. The camera I use has an HDMI out, and I noticed there is an HDMI adapter for the Ipad. Would the Ipad recieve/display the signal being sent from my camera? If not, is there another way?

    The Apple Digital AV Adapter only output to TV. It cannot be tethered to a camera.

  • Triple monitor with intel and SenseVision Club 3d usb to hdmi adapter

    Hi,
    I have an all in one machine with a single intel VGA:
    00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    I also have an external monitor which works fine. I would like to use a third monitor through the SenseVision Club 3d usb to hdmi adapter (Chipset: DL-195).
    http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/produc … apter.html
    I'm using the udlfb module with the option: fb_defio=1
    The monitor attached to the usb to hdmi adapter turns green when the machine starts.
    The problem is that I'm able to use only one adapter at the time. So I can use the integrated monitor and the external one attached to the intel VGA or the monitor attached to the usb to hdmi adapter but not all of them together.
    Here is my xorg.conf:

    Section "Device"

    Screen 1 "screen0" LeftOf "screen1"
    Screen 2 "screen1" LeftOf "screen2"
    Option "Xinerama" "on"
    EndSection
    Switching the screen0 and screen1 positions in the xorg.conf makes work the intel vga. The current configuration enables only the usb monitor. The screen2 is discarded by the xorg stating that none monitor is attached to the device.
    I also tried to tinker with the BusID values. Specifying BusID "USB" makes the xorg crash.
    Is it possible at all to use three monitors at the time with the current state of art? Any success story with this setting?
    Could you please share your working xorg.conf if you have any?
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you very much.

    Apparently yes,
    According to the thread:
    To restore to the old behaviour, put this in your ~/.drirc:
    <driconf>
      <device screen="0" driver="i915">
        <application name="Default">
          <option name="vblank_mode" value="0" />
        </application>
      </device>
    </driconf>
    But I don't come back to the same perfs as before (tested with eternal lands).
    I noticed that in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
    (WW) intel(0): Register 0x61200 (PP_STATUS) changed from 0xc0000008 to 0xd0000009
    (WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS before: on, ready, sequencing idle
    (WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS after: on, ready, sequencing on
    (WW) intel(0): Register 0x71024 (PIPEBSTAT) changed from 0x00020202 to 0x00020000

    (WW) intel(0): PIPEBSTAT after: status: VBLANK_INT_ENABLE
    There seem to be some problem with mtrr
    I found this problem which seems related but I only have 2GB of memory

    It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • USB Power adapter for external harddrives..

    I found a post regarding this issue but wanted to get more info if anyone else has experienced this problem.
    I've a Macally external fire/usb enclosure that powers up and mounts directly on to my PB Aluminum 1.67
    laptop but the USB portion doesn't draw power. It simply makes that "clicking" sound.
    After trouble shooting with Apple and MacAlly . I digress ..no one in the US service calls now mainly overseas..a
    MAJOR drag when communicating (bad reception,etc..)
    It was later told to me about the power issue with the aluminum series not drawing enough power for the older
    firewire/usb or USB only enclosures.
    I was told that I had 2 options:
    1) purchase a AC power adapter to run the USB part of the drive
    2) get a "USB express" power adapter that connects between the PB and the external HD
    I wouldn't fuss over the USB part of this external HD, but I'd like it to work so I can exchange info
    between my other firewire/usb drive and the MacAlly firewire/usb simultaneously.
    It's a time saver for backing up info between these two drives.
    I would like to avoid using an AC adapter just to power the USB part of this drive.
    That's why I purchased this drive as it ran off the power from the computer.
    Any leads on various "AC free" USB power adapters, or anything like minded DO reply back.
    as always thanks in advance.. ~A~

    Hi, Atcandela.
    I've a Macally external fire/usb enclosure that powers up and mounts directly on to my PB Aluminum 1.67 laptop but the USB portion doesn't draw power.
    Do you mean it mounts and works OK when connected via FireWire, but not when connected via USB? If so, that's unsurprising. I would be surprised to hear that it doesn't mount when you use the FireWire connnection, because most drives are able to get enough power from that port.
    Does MacAlly not offer a cable for your drive that allows it to draw power from both your USB ports? Some manufacturers of external drives or enclosures do offer such a cable, and it's well worth buying because it's much smaller and more portable than an AC adapter. Have a look at this one from Western Digital — it might fill the bill for you.

  • USB to HDMI adapter cuts out randomly

    My CableMatters USB3.0 to HDMI adapter worked great in the previous version of OSX, but now it will randomly throughout the day go blank, all the windows will migrate to another monitor (I use 2 external monitors on my MBP), and then pop back on after 3-5 seconds.  This issue is known to CableMatters (and other makers of these types of devices), but they say the issue is on Apple's end.  I was surprised to see there wasn't an entry about this here so figured I'd post one, hoping to get Apple's attention to it.  I've also submitted a bug report (15492402).  Unfortunately, search on the bug report site doesn't seem to work for terms, so I'm not sure how many other reports have been submitted for this issue.

  • DVI-HDMI Adapter for hooking up a HDTV...Few problems...

    I have a spare 32" Sharp HDTV with HDMI, so I placed this next to my Mac Pro and used a DVI-HDMI adapter. Here are the problems:
    With my standard GeForce 7300 GT you cannot use both connectors, as they are too close together - so I could not even test to see whether both DVI outputs can work at the same time. So I have to disconnect my 23" cinema display. Now, the Macpro recognizes the TV - in the display preferences - but the resolutions are not good - the only one that works is 1280x720. Other resolutions listed, ie, 1344x756 and higher are listed as interlaced and all cause flicker. This means I do not see the OSX top menus.
    I wish to be able to show clients samples of edited movie clips on a HDTV both in FCP and standalone QT. I doubt that appleTV is the answer, as this only works in iTunes - plus, my Mac is next to my TV anyway.
    Any thoughts on making this work better? I am trying to not have to buy a new video card. Maybe the Black Magic Intensity card for HDMI output is the answer?

    I can live with the lower resolution - the TV is actually 1366 x 768, but the most annoying is not being able to use both DVD connectors on the card at the same time - they are too close together, how stupid is that?
    Ideally, I would like to see both the cinema display and the HDTV running at the same time - or least not having to manually switch over the adapter at the rear.
    I see no way around this, unless I change video cards but for $250 I can get the Black Magic HDMI card which outputs DV via HDMI to HDMI.

  • DVI Adapter for QHD displays?

    Hi everybody
    I'd like to ask how to connect a non-apple 2560x1440 display to my MacBook Pro Retina. It's supposed to connect via a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter, but this has a built-in limitation of 1900x1200. Apple has an adapter for higher resolutions, the Dual-Link DVI adapter, but it looks as if it needs two cables from the screen to work, and my screen only connects via the DVI cable. I don't want to spend 100$ buying the adapter only to learn that it won't work with my screen. What to do? Does anyone know of any non-apple Thunderbolt-DVI adapters that support 2560x1440 resolution? I've tried an HDMI adapter as well, but that's the same problem, the screen also only runs 1920x1080 when connected this way.
    Best regards

    Actually after thinking about it, the immediate solution is likely a short DVI extension cord combined with the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. I would prefer a small Apple adapter to ship with the display however, much in the same way as the DB-15 adapter shipped with the VGA version of the old LCD Studio Display, or at least make one for sale. Guess Apple is leaving this up to third parties as usual.
    The Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter would not work in this case as it is a male (Mini DisplayPort) to female (DVI) adapter. The new 24" Cinema Display has a non-removable cable ending in a male (Mini DisplayPort). As a male plug will not connect to a male plug it will not work.
    I am sure soon enough various third-parties like Gefen, Griffin, and Belkin will come up with suitable adapters which do have the right genders. It is somewhat disappointing Apple have not done this themselves as I am sure plenty of Mac Pro owners are also salivating over this new display.
    Arguably, Apple are repeating the same mistake they made with the ACD (Apple Cinema Display) connector and making it much harder and more expensive to use their displays with non Apple computers. That is they should have stuck with a standard DisplayPort connector rather than the esoteric Mini DisplayPort.
    I equally hope someone comes up with Mini DisplayPort to (big) DisplayPort adapters as well.
    On a totally different topic, I was also surprised and disappointed Apple did not switch to 16:9 displays for these new products (they are all still 16:10). The rest of the industry has already started switching to 16:9 displays and the clear trend is that 16:10 is on its way out. Still, the black border of these Apple displays does very conveniently hide the blank pixels (when playing a 16:9 video).
