USB to Parallel Port connector plug for printer

Hi
I'm trying to get an old IBM laster printer (4019) to work with an ibook G4--I have downloaded the Gutenprint driver which is supposedly compatable but now I need advice on adapting cables for printers. I was going to buy a Sabrent USB to Parallel port connector but saw in the feedback that many people weer unhappy with it. Could somebody suggest the best USB to Parallel port connecting cable for me and where to order it? thanks very much.

Hi Derek,
maybe this is a better one: http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/up6c/homepage.spml
I don't have any need for this, so I can't provide any review of it.

  • Windows XP connecting Peer-to-Peer to Windows 7 with HP LJ 4000 through USB-2-Parallel port

I am running a Peer-to-Peer network and cannot connect my Windows XP computer over the network the 'quasi-server' running Windows 7 that has a connected HP LaserJet 4000 printer connected via a USB-2-Parallel port.  The HP LJ4000 works just fine from the Windows 7 box (and serves ONLY as a backup printer) but connecting from either Windows XP PRO boxes will not work.
I have tried opening the Windows 7 Printers window and then updating the printer drivers, like it says it will, and that fails as well.
    ANY suggestions would be appreciated!

  • RXTX Parallel port communication with Pin Printer

I have successfully installed and configured RXTX-2.0-7pre1 on Linux platform.
2 printers, one Laser jet printer connected to the Serial port and the other Pin Printer connected to the Parallel port.
I can print my files out successfully with RXTX on both my 2 printers. But, there is some problem with my Pin Printer performance. The print job is a little slow and the printing is word by word output.
While the Laser printer received the whole string of my RXTX output and printed them out asap.
RXTX read my data and write them to the Parallel/Serial port directly, so, for my laser jet printer, it buffered the RXTX output data and processed them all in one. No problem, laser printer works well. But to the Pin Printer, it got the RXTX output and printed them out with no buffer. I am not authorized to deal with the Pin Printer device driver.
So, my question is that, is there someone knows how to resolve this problem on RXTX side? That is to say, how to modify the source code of RXTX and customize it?
I wanna know how to create buffer in RXTX, for example, buffering a whole string line and then sending them to the Parallel port. Then, It supposed to be that the Pin Printer will receive once a whole line output and printing line by line in the paper! Not the problemly slowly word by word output!
    Thanks a lot!

Simple metrics from google should suffice the SUN team from understand the need/huge requirement for supporting Serial and parallel port programming in windows. Platforms would always change and the team at SUN should remain commited in supporting new platforms.

  • Usb to parallel port converter

    Hello all
I am having usb to 36 pin parallel port converter and i try to communicate with that to run a stepper motor.
how can i communicate with that.?  I plan to use visa function for that, what are all the pins i have to be grounded. (Can i use visa write funtion for that?)
i have read in forums for IEEE1284 standard i have to ground pin 11 and pin 12.
And i dont know one more thing, in max i can see only COM ports without any problem and i cannot see any usb port in that.
Is COM port and usb port are same.?

This may make things more difficult. You can try if outport to the port addresses hex378 or hex278 works, but probably it doesn't. You may try to find out if your device has a different port address.
A PCMCIA parallel port normally works like a standard one. with the 378 or 278 port address.
    Cheers

  • JTAG Digital Waveform transfered using USB or parallel port ?

    Hi all
I was wondering if there is a way to send JTAG Digital Waveforms generated by LabVIEW into a parallel port or USB port.  I know that there is a way to use DAQmx devices with JTAG Digital Waveforms where DAQmx drivers take JTAG Digital Waveforms and transfer that into physical signals which is then send to UUT.  I really am in a need to try to mimic whatever a DAQmx can do to make that happen with a parallel port or usb port. I would really appreciate if you can help me it is very urgent.
    Thanks

    Hi Cristopher
I do really appreciate for a quick response. I am full aware of the fact that NI products for digital waveform generation will do the job, plus it is easier to implement them. However my goal is to use an inexpensive device that can generate external timing and my JTAG library and make .exe files from my final code and distribute that setup for several computers in factory. So buying several digital waveform generators from NI for each PC in factory will be a very expensive option. I think now you have a better picture why I am trying to find another inexpensive way to implement these digital waveforms using JTAG library. It would be ideal if I can use parallel port with some external timing to do the trick but I am really not sure where to start. Cirstopher I would really appreciate if you can come up with any suggestions in regards to this problem that I am having.
    Thanks again.

  • How to connect serial or usb or parallel port

telll me how to connect our application with serial port and how to detect weather the usb is connected or not

Without spending too much time looking at the documentation, from using previous similar transducers, the primary two connections you are concerned with are the "+output" and the "ground". The other connections are also important, but aren't directly the concern of the Data Acquisition Hardware. The "+output" produces a variable dc voltage relative to the "ground" input that is a product of the applied pressure, with the maximum output voltage, as shown on the chart, indicating maximum pressure. So you would connect those, through a suitably shielded, moderately short length, wire to the "DAQ" analog input. You will also have to supply the transducer with it's required + supply voltage at pin 2 "vs", and the power supplie's negative to the ground. There are whitepapers on this NI site about connecting to data acquistion hardware and I strongly suggest reading them a couple of times as well as anything online you can find. Writing the DAQ software, in LabVIEW or whatever, can be trivial compared to making the correct, low noise, connections to sensor hardware.
I didn't read how the offset adjustment signal is produced or its use, figure it is designed to allow you to "tune out" some signal offset caused by differences between sensors of a type (they will not all have the same "fullscale output" as indicated in the chart).
As you proceed, please keep asking.

  • Can't install parallel port printers or use printer/scanner

I have two fully upgraded systems, each of which has a parallel device: an HP Laserjet 2100 printer; and an HP PSC 500 printer/scanner/copier. They "worked fine a while ago" (!), but when I try and reinstall them now (as root or user) via the KDE Control Center, I get this error message at the end of the installation:
Unable to create printer: Error message received from manager:
You don't have access to the requested resource
I also notice that under Add Printer / Local printer / Local System / Parallel it only shows 'LPT #1' and not the identifier of the actual device as expected.
I've checked that the devices can be installed and work as expected under the new Knoppix 5.3.1 and Absolute Linux 12.1 distros - and I can successfully scan using the HP PSC 500 too.
Had a look at many error reports in various forums, but these seemed the closest to home:
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/9867
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45456
    http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index … opic=66751
Tried adding lp, parport and parport_pc explicitly to my modules list in rc.conf but no luck. Also, 'dmesg|grep lp' reports:
lp: driver loaded but no devices found
Reinstalled my cups and hplip packages, and tried downgrading them too, to no avail.
This is doing my head in - any fixes most welcome!

Mixed news - I have solved one problem only to discover another!
Here's how I managed to get KDE adding printers again:
    # pacman -Rd cups libcups
    # rm -r /etc/cups
    # pacman -S cups libcups
But I find that I cannot scan reliably with the HP PSC 500, getting either a "busy" or "i/o error" message when running XSane; or else it usually loads with scan resolution = 0 instead of 75. But sometimes (say 10%) it works!
I also found the sane-troubleshoot program from http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/sts/ and it reports:
[hpaio] failed to open scan channel: scan/sane/hpaio.c 665
    <-- sane_open (hpaio:/par/PSC_500?device=/dev/parport0): Device busy
    - OR -
    [hpaio] scl.compat1150=<5300A>: scan/sane/hpaio.c 1808

    <-- sane_open (hpaio:/par/PSC_500?device=/dev/parport0): Error during device I/O
Also, I wonder whether this comment from http://www.xs4all.nl/~ljm/SANE-faq.html#43 is significant:
7.7. I'm using IDE over SCSI and I keep getting IO-error under xsane.
The IDE via SCSI driver seems to create problems. Please advise the mailing list.
Just checked again, and I can scan fine with the HP PSC 500, running from the Knoppix 5.3.1 live DVD.

  • Hp LaserJet 4100 will not print in Win 7 with usb to parallel cable

Our church has recently upgraded all of the desktop computers with Dell Inspirons with Win 7 64 bit.  We have a Hp Laserjet 4100 that we have purchased a Tripp Lite U206-006 usb to parallel cable.  The driver for the cable appears to install and the port location for that usb printing support is Port_#002.Hub_#002.  It appears that the driver that is installed is from Microsoft and is Driver 6.1.760.16385.  I have also tried Hp's upd for both pcl 5 and pcl 6 and a couple of versions that appear after windows update has updated the drivers.  Nothing allows for printing.  When I delete/remove each of the manually installed drivers and have windows scan for hardware changes, the driver that is automatically installed is the HP LaserJet 4100 PcL6.  I have read most of the various posts in the forums that come up when googling the subject, but have yet to get any indication that there is any data being sent.  Have used the trouble shooter which reports fixing the problem with the usb to parallel driver and then the printer, but nothing seems to work.  Help

USB-Parallel converters can be problematic.  The models listed in posts flagged here have been verified by users to work with 64 bit Windows 7.

  • H55M-E33 need parallel port port connector

I misplaced/lost the parallel port thing to connect the motherboard 25 pin header to a slot with db25 parallel port connector and am trying to replace it.
Can I buy this from MSI?  If not, where can I buy it and what do I ask for to get the right adapter?  I have one from an older computer, but the header that goes to the motherboard isn't the right size, it's larger.

  • Parallel port hub

Does anyone know of a hub (or other device) that would allow me to connect an older Laserjet printer with a parallel port connector to my IMac? I have an HP Photosmart all-in-one connected to my IMac but would also like to use the Laserjet for larger print runs. Essentially, I need to convert from a parallel port connector to a USB connector but don't know if that is possible.

This is probably the adaptor you need:
    http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/up6c/homepage.spml
This adaptor seems to perform quite well! I've seen some happy people with it.
Hopefully this solved your problem. (see button above this message)

  • Parallel Ports vs. Trashing Printers

Recently bought 3 new workstations:  2 w/Windows 7 - - 1 w/Windows XP Pro... Question is:  my old HP Laserjet 2100tn will not work with these computers due to their not being a paralel port on the back of the computer.
Do they make converters for the cables to make them work? Or is the printer basically worthless at this point?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You can purchase and install parallel port adapter cards and the printer will work. I can't specify which cards as you haven't stated what the specs are on your workstations. There are also usb to parallel port converter cables available.

  • Using XP software with a parallel port dongle in windows 7 professional

Please help...  Looking to have my parallel port dongle recognized for my older version software (XP) in Windows 7 under the XP PC mode.  Help in figuring out if LPT1 is set correctly or what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I have W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode installed. I have some older programs installed in XP Mode and they are working properly.
Unfortunately, I have one older program that I currently have working on an older XP Machine and that program requires a Sentinel dongle to be seen on the LPT1 Parallel Port. Since my W7 computer has an LPT1 Header on the mother board, I have purchased and
installed a PCI-Express Parallel Port and I have the ribbon cable connected to the LPT1 Header.
After I enabled the parallel port in the bios, I could see LPT1 in the W7 Device Manager and in the Windows XP Mode Device Manager. However, when I click on
Windows Virtual PC, highlight Windows XP Mode.vmcx and click on Settings, LPT1 does not appear.
I have installed my old program in Windows XP Mode and it starts to run but, when it gets to the point where it must see the Sentinel dongle on the LPT1, the
program does not find the dongle.
I also purchased a Manhattan MHUSB to DB25 Parallel Converter and plugged it in. It said that it found new hardware and installed drivers for it but that didn’t
    work either.
I am not married to any particular solution. So, I would use a USB Adapter or LPT1 connected to the mother board but there must be some code editing or changes
in settings to make the dongle work in XP Mode.
Can you tell me how to get W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode to find the Sentinel dongle
    on LPT1?
    Thank you,
    Dan

  • USB to Parallel Converter

Has anyone had success using any USB to parallel port converter?  I've tried 3 different cables including one that supposedly supported the full IEEE-1284 standard, but all of them show up only as a virtual printer port.  Is there a way to get access to this port through LabView?  Are there any cables/converters out that actually show up as a regular parallel port?  I've searched far and wide for one, but had no luck.  I searched the boards to see if anyone had done this, but most of the posts were over a year old and had no resolution confirming whether or not a proposed solution worked or not.  Thanks in advance for any help,

What OS are you using? I had the same problem with XP and LabVIEW 7.0 & &.1. But using the same USB-parallel  port converter under WIN2k I was able to access this as a parallel port. In the end my solution was to go to a PCI parallel port which worked fine under both OSes.

Define "possible". Lots of people ask if something is possible. What you really want to ask is "how difficult is it"? The answer is "yes, it's possible". How difficult? VERY. You cannot directly access it. You have to set up a messaging system between the two computers. Feel like doing that?
If not possible is it possible to use usb to parallel port adaptor.
    Probably.
