USB to PS2 Adapter Help

Quick question:
Being that the MAC Mini is so small, I want to be able to bring it to work with me once in a while.
However, at work, my KVM (2 port) switch only has PS2 inputs. There are no USB inputs for a keyboard and/or mouse (which is the only thing the MAC Mini will take)
At radio shack, they have those USB to PS2 adapters (It kind of looks like a Y adapter with 1 Male USB plug on one end, and, the 2 PS2 female ports "green and purple" on the other end). I am wondering, if anyone out there is using one of these for their MAC Mini. I wanted o know this before going out and buying one, just to find out that I wasted my time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Gary

I too was using a PS/2 KVM and tried the PS/2-to-USB adapter. The mini was unable to recognize the keyboard but the mouse worked fine. I tried several brands of these adapters, but none worked. My PC, on the other hand, didn't have any issues with this configuration. At the time I was using a Logitech Duo wireless keyboard/mouse.
I ended up gettting a USB KVM and a USB keyboard/mouse combo that works great for both the PC & Mac. The mini, like all computers, needs to "recognize" the devices plugged into it, but the mini becomes "near-sighted" especially when KVMs are added to the mix.

what is the brand and model of your USB-to-Ethernet adapter? Does the manufacturer claim that it is compatible with your installed version of OS X?

  • K7N2 Delta-ILSR - USB to Serial Adapter Doesn't Work!

Is anyone aware of an error such as the follows with the K7N2 Delta-ILSR?
I am trying the use a USB to Serial Adapter, namely the a Prolific PL-2303.
However, my PC does not seem to like it, nor does it what to cooperate with it at all.
On one occasion i have managed to get the device to show in the Manager window with the exclamation mark,
and upon checking its properties it told me: Prolific This device cannot start. (Code 10).
I have un-installed all my system USB drivers and the device drivers, and reinstalled them, but again, no matter what i do i cannot get it to work.
    Any ideas peeps?
    Cheers, G.

Don't think it will this time, but on occassions booting into SafeMode and removing possibly half-installed copies of USB devices from Device Manager has helped.
Is this what you are looking for, Henry?

  • HP Laserjet 4100 and Belkin USB Parallel Printer Adapter

I'm a brand new Mac user. I wanted to connect my Mac to my existing HP Laserjet 4100 printer. To do that, I had to purchase a Belkin USB Parallel Printer Adapter. I saw that Mac wasn't supported by this adapter, so I called Belkin and they said it was supported. Tried to set it up and failed. Called Apple for help, was on the phone for quite a long time, and no luck. Went to HP site to load drivers, and no luck. I contacted HP online and was told this product is no longer supported.
So right now when I try to print, I get a message that says the printer is offline...but it's not. Anyone have any ideas for a workaround?
Thanks so much for any thoughts.

I think you should be a little more patient in trying to find a solution. I have an HP Laserjet 4ML from 1992 that I still use every day.
In my case, I purchased an HP Jetdirect external parallel print server and have the printer connected to my router that way.
You may also want to power off the printer, reset Printing System, and then power on the printer and re-Add it in Print & Fax.

  • HP laserjet 1200 using windows7, cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter

HP laserjet 1200 using windows7. My computer has USB ports, but no parallel port, so the computer is cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter. Sometimes works fine, sometimes system states printer as ready, but will not print. Reboot hardware and on restart, I got one page to print. Next attempt to print puts the document in cue, but just sits there -- no error message. Finally, after multiple restarts, I got it to print (have no idea how), but now I had to print 20 pages one page at a time. It will not print more than one page, even if I select to print 20. Next time I start the computer I don't know if the printer will print. Do you need to use the same USB port each time, Or are the USB to parallel adapters undependable?
    This question was solved.

    Hey renradd!
Unfortunately, parallel to USB adapters can be undependable. Other than a new printer, I'm not sure what would provide you with a fix for this problem. You might try another adapter if you have one, but if that still doesn't work I would look into a printer that your computer could support.
    Hope this helps!

  • USB Skype Phone Adapter - How to use it?

    Hello everyone,
I would like to ask regarding USB Skype Phone Adapter, as I am planning to buy it. But, before I buy it I would like to know if I can still use skype to call locally using the land phone line (since it's by contract, and local calls are all free). Can I use the skype keypad to make those calls? Can I have access to my land phone line through skpye to make local calls, even though I might use it from a different country through skype? Please help me with issue. Thank you very much in advance!

First of all, you seem to be using some custom classes as there is no table and no SimpleTableModel in Java ME.
    That said,
The simpleTableModel is already attached to the tableSo when you assign the variable reference tableModel1 to a new object, it is the earlier referred object that is still 'attached' to the table, not the newly constructed one.
If you can head me to the right documentationThat would be available from wherever you got the classes.

  • USB to RS232 Adapter and Driver Advise - Heeeeelllllllpppppp Please!!

    Hi All,
Can someone please help me with an issue im having.
I currently have a hl-340 usb to rs232 adapter for me to be able to Console on to cisco equipment (as i am a network engineer).
I can not get this to work!! i have installed the pl2303 driver as recommended by the place who sold this to me on ebay which has not worked, i have looked around and saw the option of installing the keyspan for this product USA-19HS but with no joy.
I need to get this working ASAP or look to purchase a new one. I am based in the UK so if it is not possible to get this working then can you advise on what one will work?
I am a novice to the Mac so any assistance you can all give will be greatly received.
    Thanks

Let's figure out what you have first. Plug in you RS-232 adapter. If the system has a driver that recognizes it, it should pop up a window about detecting a new network interface. If that happens, your USB device is recognized and should be working. If not, you may have the wrong driver loaded.
In any case, open the System Profiler application (click the Apple logo in the menu bar, then About This Mac, then More Info). When the app opens, click USB (under the Hardware heading) in the left window pane. This will reveal all detected USB buses, hubs, and devices. On my system, my RS-232 adapter shows up as USB-Serial Controller. Clicking on it shows these details in the bottom pane:
    USB-Serial Controller:
    Product ID: 0x4026
    Vendor ID: 0x1453
    Version: 3.00
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
    Location ID: 0xfd323000
    Current Available (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 100
Your details may be different, especially the Product and Vendor ID. For the PL2303 driver to work, I think the important part is that the Manufacturer is Prolific Technology. If it's something else, you may need a different driver. Try to find your device, and reply back with its details.
With the adapter still connected, click Extensions (under the Software heading) in the left window pane. A list of all kernel extensions will be displayed. This will take a while.
On my system, with the driver that I recommended, the extension name is osx-pl2303. Clicking on it shows these details in the bottom pane:
    osx-pl2303:
    Version: 1.0.0d1
    Last Modified: 05/27/06 11:49
    Kind: Universal
    Architectures: i386, ppc
    64-Bit (Intel): No
    Location: /System/Library/Extensions/osx-pl2303.kext
    Kext Version: 1.0.0d1
    Load Address: 0x3599e000
    Valid: Yes
    Authentic: Yes
    Dependencies: Satisfied
If yours also displays this, then your device should be working. If so, then you'll need to figure out how to get your software to recognize it. Reply back with whatever details you find.

  • USB Ports & USB Card Bus Adapter

I have a Satellite A15-S127 that I bought brand new when they were released the end of May, 2003. In general, it has and still does run great. A few years back I went from using WindowsXP Home, which came pre-installed, to WindowsXP Pro. Just after that the 2 factory installed USB ports in the back of the laptop stopped working. I tried to get them back working and couldn't so I bought a 2 Port USB Card Bus Adapter, which has worked great giving me back useable USB ports.  Well, all of a sudden when I insert the Card Bus into the laptop, everything locks up. I can do nothing but remove it and hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot. I even bought a new Card Bus Adapter and it does the same thing. Now I have no useable USB ports.
Im hoping someone can help me to either get my originally installed USB ports working or to get my PC card slot working again.
    Thanks
        Logan Krewe

I wanted to add to this...I did plug in a CF card the other day and that was recognized.  I then tried my external hard drive directly again in a front USB port and it worked for a while (an hour or so).  Then it suddenly was not there anymore as if I'd ejected it even though I didn't.  Tried to put it back in and nothing.  This tells me it may be a hardware problem since it "recognized" it for a bit.  It's very frustrating.

  • BSOD 0xD1 on Windows 8.1 when using Asynchronous VISA and USB to Serial Adapter

I was consistently getting a BSOD with the code 0xd1, on usbser.sys, on windows 8.1. I am running LabVIEW 2013 SP1. The bluescreen only occurs on Windows 8.1 and everything functions fine on 7 and XP.
The "USB to Serial Adapter" is actually a microcontroller, not a physical USB to Serial adapter. The microcontroller's usb driver is just an INF to point to the generic Windows USB to Serial drivers.
The BSOD occurs after several minutes of my software running, while it is polling the controller every second. After changing the communications mode in my software to synchronous on every VISA write and read call, the BSODs stopped occurring and the program has been running stable for several hours now on Windows 8.1.
This BSOD seems to be the result of a strange interaction between the hardware, VISA and the Windows 8.1 USB to Serial drivers. Sending lots of traffic through a terminal emulator does not produce a similar BSOD.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If so did you discover an explanation or any clues to fixing it more permanently than always using synchronous communication?

Some notes to help anyone else who gets this problem in the future:
-I was able to replicate it today on Windows 7 also, though it took a more extreme situation(a VI  looping asynchronous reads and writes as fast as possible for several minutes). The result was the same 0xD1 BSOD.
-I found a Microsoft support article documenting that the crash is from a race condition in usbser.sys and providing a fix: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2964073 . Sadly the fix is only for Windows 7, but I was able to confirm that after installing it, BSODs no longer occur from VISAs asynchronous read.

  • USB parallel printer adapter

I have a HP Pavilion notebook.  I bought a USB Parallel Printer Adapter to connect it to my two printers
    HP Deskjet 540  and
    Hp deskjet 820Cse, Professional series
but I cannot make the printers work.  Since the printers are old, HP is unable to help me.  Could anybody tell me how to make these printers work with my wireless HP Pavilion (laptop)?
    Thanks

Which HP laptop and what version of Windows? I know Windows XP had usb to parallel drivers included natively. Vista and Windows 7 are tending to move away from support for "legacy" ports like serial and parallel. What port are you trying to install the printer on? I am using a usb to parallel adapter to an older parallel port printer together with a wired printer server with one usb port and it works fine with XP, Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6 computers on my home network. I actually set up the printer on each machine through the print server, which appears as a network device. The print server plugs into the router with an RJ-45 cable.

  • My ipod won't charge with USB or AC adapter - only Firewire

I recently bought a 3rd gen 20 gig ipod of ebay and it won't charge through USB or AC adapter. When I charge it through firewire, it loses its charge fast, so I am assuming the battery is dead. This still doesn't explain why it won't charge through USB or AC. Does anyone know why this might be? Please help!

good to know that 3G ipods don't charge through usb - but I still don't understand why an AC adapter wouldn't work. I can't even figure out the charging patern - it seems that when I plug it in through USB it drains the battery, but the battery life varies. One minute it will have full charge, then the next it will turn off and say it is empty, then the next it will have half life, all without plugging it in. Frustrating...

Please don't shout!   Using all uppercase means shouting on the internet.  If your keyboard is stuck please say so, otherwise people will think you are being obnoxious.
Now the first question is, when you are saying connecting to personal hotspot, have you always been using the iPhone to connect to the internet?   Are you someplace where the only place to connect is available via tethering to the iPhone's celluar network?  Or do you have other options?
