USB trackball and optical drive do not work in Windows

When booted in Windows, my new MacBook Pro -- which has no internal optical drive -- does not recognize a USB trackball or my new USB optical drive. Neither appears in the Windows control panel. I downloaded the recommended driver for the trackball, but although I can find the driver installer in Windows' downloads, when run it has no effect on the trackc ball. I worked with two senior Apple support technicans on this problem to no avail. Mac OS 10.10.2

BC is short for Bootcamp Drivers. These drivers support Apple-specific hardware on your Mac. They can be found at Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support . Assuming you have a 2014 rMBP - Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 should be installed on your MBP. Do you have a Boot Camp option in Control Panel -> System? If yes, then you can Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers and test the devices?
After you plug-in these devices, do you see any unknown devices (with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark) in Control Panel -> Hardware -> Device Manager? The Apple SuperDrive driver is included in the BC drivers bundle 5.1.5640.

Where are LETOOLS for USB? The "ADB" Driver does not work with Windows XP

I just give up with Lenovo's arcane maze of endlessly-looping driver searches. I managed somehow to get something called an "ADB Driver" which was supposed to allow Windows XP to recognize my tablet as a K1 Ideapad. I downloaded the 8+mb file which installed fk knows where and plugged in my K1 tablet. Windows recognized that it had a USB device, and when prompted to hunt for the driver (which of course I couldn't find, since Lenovo sent it into the ether) I had to back out and then hunt through my entire Windows directory for an inf file containing the word "Android".
For the unsuspecting, it hides in something called -- get ready for it -- OEM16.
I guess the L, N and V keys were missing on the keyboard of the moron who labeled this pos driver. Oh good programming Lenovo NOT but since a chimpanzee programmed Lenovo's driver site I suppose it's of a piece that a baboon packaged this worthless driver. This isn't an eCommerce site it's a zoo.
I guess it was too difficult for Lenovo to include a CD with their Windows USB driver family on it. I mean . . . that would have cost them $.0000002. Jesus wept.
All I want to do is have XP know that the "USB Human Interaction" device I have plugged in is my K1 Lenovo tablet. Don't send me to Google for a USB/Windows Android driver, they direct everyone to the site of the manufacturer of the tablet. And don't insult my intelligence by even countenancing the possibility that Google's arch rival would stoop to offer any means for their OS to talk to (cough hack) Android.
I get that it has to be a Lenovo driver and/or program. So where the f is it? because this is massively pissing me off. And one other thing: No link to Lenovo. I don't appreciate being manipulated by Lenovo's flash crap only to land on a driver download site that says "We can't find it."
No. Direct me please to any non-lenovo download portal that has the most recent version of LETOOLS and hope I don't have to come back here with yet more frustration. This is the most needlessly idiotic driver service I have ever had the misfortune of being tethered to and I hope never to have to engage with it ever again. May I please know where LETOOLS can be downloaded? Thank you.

I'm sorry that you couldn't find LETools. I've cheked with internal team and was told that actually we do have the software, but it's called "Synchronization Software". Did you try that?
If you browse to ADB Driver page by clicking "Learn More" in support site, there is a note indicating that this ADB driver works with Synchronization Software.

Description of Issue:
Optical Drive is not recognised in Windows 8.1 (x64), or in UEFI System Diagnostics.
Steps to Recreate:
UEFI:
Boot PC into UEFI System Diagnositcs (F2 at POST)
Component Checks
Optical Drive
Sequential Check
Error: Not Optical Drive Installed.
Windows 8.1 (x64):
Run Device Manager
Error: No DVD/CD Drives section.
Scanning for new hardware changes nothing.
Relevent System Specifications:
Laptop: HP Pavilion 15-n023sa (Vanilla build)
Optical Drive: HP DVDRAM gu70n
Steps Already Taken to Solve:
Replaced DVD drive with one from similar spec HP Pavilion. The gn70n hotswapped perfectly in the other machine. No change on problem laptop. Conclusion: DVD Drive is working, and there are no issues with Windows 8.1 (x64).
Removed DVD Drive. Rebooted computer. Log into Windows. Shutdown. Refit DVD Drive. Boot laptop. This attempts to solve hardware glitches with PnP devices; as well as helping to fix any intermittent loose connection problems. Conclusion: No change.
Ran Troubleshooting for Hardware and Devices, via the Control Panel. Issue Found: Hardware changes might not have been detected. Exploring more options just takes you through to http://social.answers.microsoft.com/search/en-us/?query=hardware+device, this is a 404 error page. Conclusion: Windows Help and Support is severely lacking. They show no more information than just that something has been detected as being wrong.
Ran the Microsoft FixIt Optical Drive Troubleshooter and Automatic Repairer. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/5/8/F586FB7C-78E0-40EB-AF41-4C925F803CAF/CDDVDWin8.meta.dia... The troubleshooter reported that the device could not be found. It recommended removing all power cables, switching the device off and various other things that have no relevence to laptop hardware troubleshooting. It then said if the problem still persists, contact the manufacturer. Conclusion: Windows Troubleshooting cannot fix the problem.
Run Windows Update to ensure all updates and definitions have been installed. Conclusion: Windows is fully up to date.
Run a full Rootkit and heuristic Malware scan, using Sbybot S&D 2.3; as well as a signature based scan using Windows Defender. Conclusion: Laptop is clean of rootkits and malware, to the best of my knowledge.
Notes:
The DVD Drive is NOT showing up in the Device Manager, OR in This PC.
The DVD Drive is NOT being detected by the UEFI System Diagnostics.
There is NO reference to the DVD Drive in BIOS, other than as a boot option, which is generic.
The DVD Drive, itself, DOES work, and has been verified on a different machine.

Oh ok, that's fine. I was expecting to go through a first response resolution process. Once the gate keepers realise they're talking to someone who actually knows what they're talking about, it's usually pretty simple to skip through a lot of the script. Once you've got past the gate keepers once, it's usually easy to get a direct number for the actual resolution department.
Will they question why I've opened up the case to exchange a 1TB HDD for an 80GB HDD? (The only physical spare I have, atm). I know they'll understand, I'm only worried about giving them any reason to deny the warranty on such an extensive fix.

1. Navigate to the Control Panel (large icon view) > Devices and Printers and try to pair a bluetooth device (i.e. Bluetooth Headset) and observe if it gets detected under the device list.
2. If the Bluetooth Headset is listed but it's not working try toright click on it > choose Properties. On the bluetooth properties Window, go to the Services Tab and check all the appropriate bluetooth services.

I went to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and i tried to add a new device as the bluetooth doesn't appear this is what i got. By the way the bluetooth was on.

Plugin created using C++ 6 and Acrobat 6 SDK Not Working in Windows

I have an Acrobat plugin compiled in Visual C++ 6 using Acrobat 6 SDK. The plugin works flawlessly in Acrobat versions 6 to 9 in Windows XP. While the plugin is able to add a menu iterm and tool bar icon in Windows 7, it causes Acrobat to hang everytime when activated in which event I have to close Acrobat. Since Visual C++ 6 is a 32 bit app, I have to believe that Acrobat 6 SDK is responsible for the behavior described herein in attempting to get the plugin to work in Windows 7. Any comments or suggestions regarding what Visual C++ version to use along with the appropriate Acrobat SDK to get the plugin to work in Windows 7 are appreciated. In doing so, I would also be interested in knowing what backward compatibility one may expect w/regard to previous versions of Acrobat in updating the plugin to work in Windows 7. As for the answer, correct me if I am wrong but I'm thinking Acrobat 9.

Adobe hasn't supported Acrobat 6, VC6 or the Acrobat 6 SDK for at least 5 years. You will need to move to the Acrobat 9 SDK if you wish support.
And Acrobat 9 and its SDK are fine with Windows 7.

Have you disabled the firewall in you security system? Windows firewall rarely gets in the way, but security systems' do.

Optical drive does not work completely.

My optical drive stopped working today. It is not regonized by the system and does not show up in the ATA Bus in System Profiler.
I resetted the PRAM and PMU, then checked and the drive was still not found. I then put my computer to sleep and when I woke it up, the drive was there in the ATA Bus list but information was missing. Now it is not there at all.
There is a disc stuck in the drive. It will not eject. If I restart the computer holding the trackpad button down (to force eject the disc), the system stays on a completely gray screen and never finishes booting.
The disc was having problems being read on another computer, which is why I put it in the drive. I'm not sure why this has happened, but if anyone has any ideas or tips that they can give me, i'd be more than willing to listen to them.
Also, I have an eDrive that I made with TechTool Pro, and when I boot up in that the drive is not recognized either. This makes me think that there is a bad connection or a hardware problem. But how is that possible in a Powerbook?
I do not want to call Apple because I bought my Powerbook two years ago and do not have anymore warranty time left. I can open the machine and look at the drive, but I am guessing that I will not see anything special and it will look normal. I really don't feel like buying another drive, they shouldn't break after two years.
Maybe there is dirt in it or something?
When I open Toast, it freezes and never opens. I have to restart my computer to get Toast to close.
I burned a DVD last night.

I'm not sure if I'm threadjacking here, which probably means I am, but that is not my intent.
I have seen scattered posts related to this problem and have this problem myself with my 2 1/2 yr old Al PB. Intermittently, the optical drive is not recognized by the system, sometimes with a disc in the drive, sometimes without. System profiler will sometimes list it on the ATA bus, sometimes not. At times it is noted by System Profiler as on the ATA bus, but if I select "disc burning", System profiler either grinds away and never finds anything or says there is no supported device. At one point it froze while playing a DVD and did not recognize the presence of a disc or the drive. A reset of one form or another always corrects the problem (often only after multiple attempts), but this happens several times a week and I shouldn't need to reset PRAM or PMU that often in my opinion. Sometimes just a restart does the trick, but it's all a bit of a pain. No other issues to speak of. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Have you installed Boot Camp drivers? You need them to make your computer work properly on Windows, and to use your function keys as Play or Pause, volume and brightness keys.
To install them, follow these steps:
1. Press the X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant and tick only the option to download Windows support software.
3. Windows support software will be downloaded and Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to burn it into a DVD or USB drive, so do it.
4. Start into Windows, insert the DVD or USB drive and install Boot Camp drivers. Your Mac and your volume and brightness keys will be working after installing the drivers

Optical drive Diagnostic not available in windows 8

In regard to my Hp pavillion g6 2380ea laptop running windows 8. This laptop is about 5 weeks old. I bought it new with windows 8 installed. Over the past fewweeks I have noticed a weird electronic noise together with a click coming from the right side of the machine when I turn it on. Its not a terribly loud noise, but perhaps unususual, although it could be completely normal for all I know. Anyway I am still concerned about it.
The problem is, I have been trying to diagnose the optical drive.I believe there should be an option for this in the diagnostic section of hp support assistant, but there is only options to diagnose the battery and network on mine. I know they removed the hard drive diagnostic tool from here because of some problems, wonder if they might of removed the optical drive diagnostic tool too, or does its absence mean that my optical drive is not detected. the optical drive is detected in device manager butI would stilllike to know if it is working okay. It plays dvds, although very noisy when doing so
Thaught this might mean a problem but my brothers hp laptop is also loud when playing dvds. Anyone know whee I could download the optical drive diagnostic tool for windows 8. the windows 7 one I downloaded wont work with windows 8. Need.

I have a iMac g4 swivel and it seems that the ethernet port and the optical drive are not working.

Is there any troubleshooting I can try, short of replacing everything?
I really love this version of the iMac and want to use it in place of my eMac for some home business inventory and printing work.
I need the ethernet to work because the printer can only connect that way. It's a great laserjet from HP (1998 version) and it works like a champ.
As for the disc drive... I would love to install office or iwork but as I said nothing seems to mount. I also can't upgrade it to Tiger. It's running Panther and I can live with that I suppose.
I have wondered if I could exchange parts from the eMac (Motherboard, Optical Drive, Hard Drive) since its bulkyness takes up so much room.
Any ideas?

1) Do you have a router? Do you communicate to the internet via wifi?
connect the printer to a router with an ethernet port. This will be an input eithernet port.
You may need to change ip addresses on your printer or on your network.
2) usb to ethernet dongle

verify that the dongle will work on your machine. Any drivers needed?
3) You can firewire to for TCP/IP ( ethernet) to comunicate between macs. Connect your printer to your macbook. Use firewire to communicate between macs. Enable printer sharing.

While Burning Library - Error and CD drive does not work

While making a backup copy of my library, an error occurred on the second disc. I retried it but nothing happened. I could not continue with the backup or start again.
And since then, my CD drive will not read CDs. It is still connected as I checked the wires and did troubleshooting, the green light turns on and the sound happens like it is reading but it cannot auto-run nor does it acknowledge anything on a CD.
Some code or something must have gotten stuck. I cannot use phone support for some reason nor can I find a place to send an e-mail to. Any help would be appreciated.

If your optical drive worked before the repair, then in all likelihood it was not plugged back in when the Mac was reassembled, or if it was, the cable was not properly seated. You should go back to whoever did the repair and have them fix it. It shouldn't take long.
Do you see the drive at all in the System Profiler? If not, it's probably not connected. If you do see it, then it's possible it was damaged during the repair, and whoever did the repair will be responsible for repairing or replacing it.

USB ports and memory card slots not working

My Pavilion a6120n desktop has worked brilliantly ever since I purchased it. As of last week the 2 usb ports in the front and the 2 unused usb ports in the back have stopped working. My printer is plugged into one rear port and my wireless mouse is plugged into a second rear port and these work fine. I generally use a memory stick for data swapping or the card reader slots (which have also stopped working). I no longer see the memory card icons in the "Computer" window. When installing something new the "New Hardware Found" statement pops up but the driver install always fails. I think it is a software issue but there are no usb drivers to download on the HP/support site that I can find. . . so . . . Below is what I have tried so far.Run antivirus software. Full scan & memory scan - no issuesRun malewarebytes full scan - no issues I have tried restarting several times with no success. Restore to several previous restore points = failedRestarting computer in repair mode = failedRun the repair disk that I had made = failedChecked the power management for each usb port to see if the power was routed properly = okRemoved the case cover and carefully inspected the wiring and connectors.finally I tried uninstalling the usb drivers = failed Upon restarting the computer the last time the startup file must have failed and after several hours of attempting a repair I had to reinstall the Window 7 completely. Both wireless and optical mouse have quit working on Windows 7 - Microsoft mice

My notebook was working just fine until I updated some drivers. There were several that needed to be updated but I think the video driver did me in. Anyway, I restored my computer to an earlier point but the mice will still not work. The touchpad on the computer is working but neither of the mice are. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling intellipoint from Microsoft but no luck. I go into properties under mice and it says no USB mouse detected although another tab will say the mouse is working. I can not figure out what is going on. What am I missing? The computer seems to be functioning properly otherwise. I am using Windows 7.

I have since discovered that whatever driver updates I was doing made my USB hubs unuseable. I am getting a message that says they are corrupt or not complete with an error code 19. Is there a way to get this fixed. I did a system restore but that did not fix the problem.

DVD optical drive no longer works with Windows under bootcamp or parallels

For some strange reason, the DVD optical drive- Optiarc 5680 on my 27" iMac, no longer works anymore with Windows under Parallels or Bootcamp. It used to work perfectly fine before, but now it just shows up with a yellow exclamation mark under Device Manager and Code 39 "Windows cannot load the device driver..."
The DVD drive continues to still work fine with OSX. But it won't work anymore under Windows via Parallels or bootcamp, despite trying to uninstall the optical device drivers, update, reinstall, etc. Anybody else experiencing this or have any ideas?

Finally found the solution for anybody else who runs into this problem. It was solved by doing a registry mod in Windows from this site:

After applying the registry changes the DVD optical drive worked instantly again with Windows....sigh...guess I can't blame the Mac on this one.
