USB Trackpoint Keyboard Driver Issues

Hello!
I'm not entirely sure how to go about reporting bugs in drivers, so I decided this would be the best venue. I've discovered two bugs in the driver for the USB trackpoint keyboard. I'm using version 1.01 of the driver (available here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73235) under Windows 7.
1.) There appears to be a memory leak somewhere. When I've been using the keyboard for a while, memory usage of Skd8855.exe climbs and climbs. I took a screenshot of it at 896 MB (http://toastsoft.net/usbkeyboarddriver.png) I've found that by killing Skd8855.exe and preventing it from loading on startup, most of the keyboard functions work properly. You don't get status lights on anything but caps lock, but overall seems to be functional.
2.) The trackpoint scrolling doesn't seem to work in Opera 10. If it does work, it will scroll for a second before the window loses focus and scrolling stops.
If I'm using the wrong driver or have neglected to install something else, I would appreciate any pointers in the right direction. If these are genuine bugs, I hope they get to the right place! And sorry if this isn't that place.

I am having the same exact issue on a 64bit Win 7 machine.  Oddly enough i cancelled the exe in processes and the keyboard still works fine.

  • ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint (55Y9053) driver issue (keys not working)

    Hello!
I bought this external keyboard yesterday for my Dell desktop running windows 7 (professional)  because I liked the thinkpad keyboard in my thinkpad t400. After plugging in to my desktop and installing the drivers that came in the CD, I noticed some keys (u, o, m, enter(return), l) were not working, i.e., nothing get displayed when I press those keys . When I tried installing it on thinkpad t400 running Windows 7 professional, the same non-working keys were displaying numbers instead of alphabet values.
Please note the keyboard is not 55Y9003 but the newer version 55Y9053. Also, note the trackpoint worked well including scrolling and all other keys were working. Interestingly, when I plugged this keyboard on Ubuntu machine (desktop and laptop), everything worked well without even installing any drivers.
I initially thought it was a hardware problem and got replacement from Amazon. Both the keyboards exhibit the same problem. Given the fact it works nicely on Ubuntu, I think this is a driver issue. I tried installing drivers from thinkpad site including versions 1.6 and 1.7.
I would appreciate if someone can help with the right drivers.
    Thank you,
    Vinai

How does the keyboard compare to the one on the T400? I'm considering purchasing one for my desktop because I'm addicted to the TrackPoint.

  • T60 with Adv Mini Dock and USB FP keyboard Windows7 Issue

I have been combing through these forums as well as others and I am unable to find anyone who has this issue.
This only happens under Windows 7.  I have installed all the Lenovo drivers included in the System Update as well as the Betas but never can solve this.
The problem occurs when I try to eject the T60 (8743) from the Adv Mini dock that has the USB Fingerprint Keyboard connected.  If I remove the keyboard before undocking it is fine and the machine undocks normally.
Other than this issue, Windows7 works quite well on this system.
    Thank you

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

  • USB Alum Keyboard Fkeys issue in WinXP

    Hello all,
I have a 24" iMac, runs excellent.  I run Windows XP on it for work, OSX for all other stuff.
I have a USB keybaord.  I went on a trip, took my computer, forgot my keyboard, used brothers keyboard to setup an Apple wireless alum keyboard (small thing) and a couple of days later, bought a new USB Alum keyboard (love the larger keyboard) and hooked it up.
However, now my FKeys in Windows XP no longer have Eject, PrintScreen (F14 key), volume, mute, etc, when in Windows XP mode.
I have been looking everwhere for a fix.  Does anyone have any clues?
On my Bootcamp control panel, there is 'no' Keyboard F keys 'on' page.  No keyboard settings at all in Bootcamp.  Mind you, this is an iMac 24" with the old Bootcamp for Windows XP.
    Any thoughts?
    LH

I found the issue.  Unfortunately, its the keyboard.
The brand new keyboard I purchased does not support Windows XP via Bootcamp.  I can only figure this was because the Bootcamp system no longer supports Windows XP, so Apple must have made the Keyboards to no longer run the 'computer commands' in the top F-Key section.
To prove this, when I got home, I plugged in my older USB Apple Keyboard and the F-Key computer commands for eject, volume, mute, screen illumination, and print screen, now all 'work'.
RKaufmann, I did do the reset as stated.  That didnt do it.  Its clearly a hardware issue via a new keyboard change.
I am saddened by this.  I love those keyboards and I do tend to go through them quite a bit.  I am thinking its time to move on...

  • X201 Windows 8.1 Keyboard driver issue

I tried clean installing Windows 8.1 on my ThinkPad X201T
The Windows itself installs without any issue, but for some reason the keyboard drivers seem to be out of order. They will either not load up at all, or take incredibly long time to load up.
I've tried endless versions of Drivers, but none of them works to me. Newest drivers just don't work at all, and very old, early Windows 7 drivers and Vista-era drivers also have some problems.
Is there anyone who has successfuly set up Windows 8.1 and the drivers on ThinkPad X201, or other ThinkPads with 1st Gen Core i processor?

  • Availability of USB UltraNav Keyboard?

    Hi,
I've checked Lenovo's site several times for the past couple of weeks the Thinkpad USB UltraNav keyboard with trackpoint and the extra USB connects at the keyboard.  I currently have one of these (SK-8845, PN 41A5161).   However all I can find on the Lenovo site lately is the USB TrackPoint Keyboard with no UltraNav and no integrated USB ports.  What Gives?
Is this keyboard not avaialble on backorder or just no longer made?   I really need it to replace a worn out USB UltraNav/Trackpoint Keyboard on a docking station.
    Thanks,
    GC Mobley

I found my answer...withdrawn from marketing fall of 2009, replaced by cheaper non-ultranav keyboard with NO integrated UltraNAV and NO integrated USB ports.
So there is no NO WAY to hook up a docking station to a Lenovo Thinkpad and have an external USB keyboard which has UltraNav and Trackpoint - birlliant, just brilliant.

  • Driver issue? with docked T61, and 31P9490- IBM USB Travel Keyboard w/ UltraNav and sleep mode

Can someone from Lenovo please advise me on which version drivers need to be installed for the external keyboard and mouse, and/or the proper power setting(s) to use with this configuration so the machine will react and wake up from its nap with a Fn+F4 on the external keyboard?
T61  7658-CTO,  3GB RAM,  Vista Business Ultimate.  These are the external IBM/Lenovo devices used:
    250410U     THINKPAD ADVANCED MINI DOCK
31P9490    IBM USB TRAVEL KEYBOARD W/ULTRANAV
    31P8700     SCROLLPOINT PRO OPTICAL MOUSE
I have an issue with waking my T61 up from sleep mode while it’s docked and using the external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.  When the machine is docked, the blue Fn keys or the Think Vantage button do not function on the external keyboard.
The external keyboard seems to be the same as the internal keyboard installed in the TP- which I thought would react the same as the internal keyboard when I installed the driver that it came with.  I had hoped something this simple would be easier than it now seems.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers, Mark

  • IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 and Windows 7 x64 USB Driver Issues

Been pulling my hair out with this one for the last week or so and haven't had any luck finding anything on the forums or the web regarding a solution short of a full reinstall of Windows 7 which I am not prepared to do at this time; so hoping someone here can shine some light on this for me
I have a iPhone 5 that is updated to iOS 6.1.4 and a recently built Windows 7 64-bit machine. All of my other USB devices function fine (keyboard, mouse, Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows, and a Seagate 2TB external USB drive). I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes, installed successfully and then attempt to plug in my phone to sync. I get the standard Windows *ding* that I've attached a device and 1 of 2 things happens (I haven't been able to determine what causes one reaction to happen versus the other): Windows will successfully install the 'Apple USB Mobile Device Driver' successfully and it will appear under my USB devices in Device Manager. However - iTunes will not recognize the phone and I cannot see it in Windows either. In the 'Devices and Printers' snap-in my iPhone will appear under 'Unspecified Devices' as the 'Apple USB Mobile Device'. The iTunes diagnostics fail to find a connected device so the tests fail. As soon as I unplug the device, the strangest thing happens: Windows will start trying to install a device driver and after a few seconds it will fail stating that the "MTP Device Driver" installation failed because the device was unplugged. iTunes also thrown an error "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone" throwing error code 0XE8000065 (I've also seen error code 0XE8000085 as well)
After some finagling, I've managed to get Windows to recognize the device under 'Portable Devices' in Device Manager as an "MTP USB Device" using the generic driver. At this point, I've tried updating the driver and manually specifying the Apple USB driver located in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Drivers which updates successfully but then changes the device to "Apple USB Mobile Device" and moves it under the USB Devices in Device Manager; and Windows nor iTunes can see it even still.
I've tried removing iTunes several times and ensuring that all remnants of the installation are gone (registry and folders on the installation drive) and have disconnected all my USB devices short of the keyboard and mouse and still I get the same results. At this point, I'm afraid that a re-install of Windows is going to be the solution; but it's a drastic one (I have a SSD drive where Windows is installed along with all of my games for faster load times/better performance and do not want to have to redownload\reinstall all of them) and I'm not prepared to undertake it at this time, which is why I'm posting here
I've used a utility called USBDeview that sees my phone is connected - so I know from a functional standpoint that my USB ports are good and working. I also know the cable is good too - my daughter's PC (Windows 7 32-bit with NO iTunes) immediately sees the device when I plug it in, installs the drivers, recognizes it as an iPhone and I can then see/browse it in Windows Explorer like I would normally expect. My work PC (Windows 7 64bit, NO iTunes) sees the device just fine as well. I would immensely appreciate anyone that has seen this issue or has any additional solutions I can try.
It's also worth mentioning that I've never used Kapersky antivirus so the UPPERFILTERS value in the registry that I've seen as a solution on some forums is not present on my machine. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus (no flaming please lol - it meets my needs and is extremely lightweight, which is why I'm using it on a gaming rig) and it's not indicating any issues. I've also tried running iTunes as an administrator (even though my account is a local admin on the machine) and that does not have any effect either.
If there is anything I left out, please let me know; and I thank you in advance!

  • Bug Report - Windows 8.0 - 6.0.1 USB arbitration causes USB keyboard driver failure

Can't find a place to submit a bug report. So here goes.
    Full Error Message:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.
    Problem Occurs:
    Windows 8.0 x64
    Vmware Player 6.0.1 build-1379776
    Problem:
A USB keyboard ceases to function on the host operating system following the first host OS reboot after installing 6.0.1 on Windows 8.0. This issue does not occur with 6.0.0. The issue disappears upon uninstalling Player 6.0.1. Reinstallation allows Player to operate as expected, but issue re-appears after host OS reboot.
The issue happens immediately after host OS loads, and continues irrespective of whether VMWare Player is launched.
Looking at the keyboard drivers, the usb keyboard's driver has not loaded (see attached images). The built-in keyboard driver however reports no errors and continues to operate as usual.
Changing the USB keyboard device to that of a different manufacturer does not resolve the issue. Any USB keyboard driver appears to fail.
    Work Around:
    1) Launch msconfig
    2) Disable VMWare USB arbitration service
    3) Reboot
    4) USB Keyboard works. VMWare Player continues to operate as normal, minus the ability to mount USB storage devices on the guest OS.

This issue was fixed on my PC as follows.
    1) Taking ownership of the above usb*.sys files in  the drivers folder
    2) renaming them to usb*.sysold
    3) Using Device Manager to uninstall all USB devices with the yellow warning ! next to them
    4) Doing a Scan for Hardware changes via the Device Manager toolbar and then waiting a few moments whilst the USB devices are re-installed with signed drivers.
    Hope this helps you....

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).
    Apple iPod USB Device properties:
    Driver Provider - Microsoft
    Driver Date - 7/1/2001
    Driver Version - 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows Publisher

Hi. Ive got pretty much the same problem.... Got a new shuffle for christmas..having real problems syncing with itunes. Funnily enough I managed to get 25 tracks on it but then it just stopped. error message says " The ipod shuffle cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." Ive done restore, and downloaded a reset utility thingy to try but still no joy.

  • Boot up/Keyboard/DVD Drive Issues & Questions

I thought I'd try this before giving up completely on this iMac. It's a 20" Early 2006 iMac that will not boot past the gray screen, Apple icon and rotating circle.
Here's the challenge - this iMac also does not recognize keyboard input from an Apple keyboard but will respond to an old Dell USB keyboard.
    Questions
First the installation (retail Tiger) DVD is not recognized when I hold the Option (alt) key down while booting, only the hard drive is listed. Does this mean that the DVD drive is not functioning?
I managed to reset SMC which did nothing to get the DVD drive recognized and now the fans are spinning full speed as well as the computer not booting.
I would love to try resetting PRAM, how does one do that without a "Command" key? I should mention that I replaced the battery when I pulled the hard drive out to rescue the data on it. Would that have reset PRAM?
Is it possible to boot directly from an external USB CD/DVD drive, and thus be able to use Disk Utilities to attempt a repair or reinstall?
    Any assistance is much appreciated!
    Peace,
    Gail

Could mean the optical drive is malfunctioning or that you have a defective disc. Try cleaning the disc on both surfaces as well as checking for scratches or defects.
Both the retail Tiger disc and the original OS X Installer Disc One are in perfect condition (at least to the naked eye). Neither will boot from the drive.
How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
    Some "common" error indicators:
    SNS - sensor error
    MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
    MOT - fan error
I would very much like to do this but can't get the discs to boot from the DVD drive.
In order to reset the PRAM you need to restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION-P-R keys until you hear three additional chimes. See Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
I do not have a COMMAND key on the only keyboard I have on hand that works on this iMac. What would be another key combination or an equivalent for a non-Apple keyboard?
Is it possible to boot directly from an external USB CD/DVD drive, and thus be able to use Disk Utilities to attempt a repair or reinstall?
Yes, you can boot from a USB or FireWire external hard drive or optical drive.
This is the route I will probably take since apparently the optical drive is toast.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the assistance!

  • T61 - Rescue and Recovery - USB Drive issues

Ran into disk space issues with RnR on my C: since I was not manually using RnR and have other back-up tools, I uninstalled RnR.  A few weeks later, I re-installed the latest RnR version as I now have possesion on a USB Western Digital drive.  I then ran RnR to the USB drive.  Here is the problem:
The USB drive now has a new drive name and letter desigation, from drive G: to drive Y:  The real killer is that I had other files on drive G:
Looking at the drive size, it appears that ALL files are still on the USB drive.
Question:  How do I get the drive to be recognized as drive G:?  How do I get access to the files that were on that drive?  Would un-installing RnR set the drive back to C: and provide access to my files?
Note:  There was no warnings during the back-up that any of this would happen.  I can't find any warnings or descriptions in the manuals either.

Vista - start - computer - right click - manage - (if uac on, accept) -  disk management - select the disk- right click and you are given the oportunity to change the drive map (i don't know if that helps)
