USB TV Tuner Recommendations and Experiences?

I'm thinking about buying an USB TV Tuner and just would like to know if someone already tried.

Well, if you're in Windows "a lot", then having the tuner work in Windows would seem to be more desireable than having it work in OSX. Me personally, I built a cheap Windows box to be my TV and DVR so that I don't have to worry about an app crashing taking out my TV (or vice versa.)

I'm in Windows a lot, but I'm in OS X more. And as for the forum software not letting me change the correct answer, I totally agree with you.

Recommendations for external monitor in combination with USB 3.0 dock and X1 carbon touch

Dear Community,
I'm waiting for my X1 carbon touch and USB 3.0 dock and keyboard/mouse to arrive any time soon. However, I'd be glad to get some help/recommendations on external monitor choice.
For instance, the new HP envy 27" caught my eye, since it includes speakers, but it comes with HDMI and Displayport connections only. As far as I understood, video connection itselft shouldn't be a problem using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, but how about the resolution of the X1 vs. a HD+ monitor, and how do I use the audio on this monitor (don't want to use the microphone jack in front of the dock, as it should look as minimalistic as possible)?
Is there a solution? via usb 3.0? or should I better consider another monitor? Anyways, DVI or HDMI, I don't want to connect a separate audio system to the dock. Any recommendations, or is it one of those gadgets that has not been thought through well enough and you need to wait for the next generation to be developed?

Since you don't want to use the jack on the dock, you could usethemini-DisplayPortontheX1cTouchasyourvideooutputoption because the version of DP on the X1c Touch includes the ability for audio to streamed over the DP connection in addition to video. This would require a compatible DP monitor.
You'll also want the monitor to support audio over the DP connection. The X1c Touch's graphics supports the output of an audio stream over DP and the machine should be be capable of this. This gives you two cables connecting to the X1c Touch -- the DP cable for audio and video and the USB 3.0 cable connecting to the dock. The dock would be attached to keyboard, mouse, USB accessories, and Ethernet (if necessary).
As far as what to look for in a monitor, my general recommendation is Dell Ultrasharp. They tend to be a good deal for an IPS monitor with at least an sRGB gamut and a solid warranty. I've never bothered to attempt to stream audio over DP because I have separate speakers for audio. In the same way that my last 3 laptops have been ThinkPads, my last three monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps. The graphics in the X1c Touch should be fine running a 1920x1080, so I wouldn't worry about resolution. It can be a little jarring to use monitors side-by-side when they have different pixel densities, so you'll likely end up treating them as separate display surfaces. I often have e-mail and Pandora open on my T420's screen while I'm doing the bulk of my work on my main monitors. If you think you'll be touching the screen a good bit, then you might want to look into buying a touch capable monitor. Otherwise your brain can become easily confused because it'll begin to think that all computer screens are touch-capable and you'll reach out and try to touch your desktop monitor without thinking.

Help, I attempted to sync my I pad with my i tunes and pc (windows based) and it would not restore my I pad. now I only have an I tunes logo and a picture of a USB connection. I have tried to reset my I pad but it will do nothing. can somebody assist

I am trying to sync my I pad to my PC. I set up an I tunes account and my I pad started to Sync automatically. Then it started to restore my I Pad but said the restoration failed. Now my I pad only has an i tunes logo and a pic of a USB connecor on the screen. I reset it and shut the I pad down but it still is frozen. can sombody please assist me?

That is known as Recovery mode and the device needs to be connected to iTunes. You could also do a search of these forums for iPhone recovery mode.

Can I watch Dish Network using Touchsmart 3.0 and an external USB TV tuner?

I just bought a Touchsmart 300-1003 (got a great deal), and it hasn't arrived yet. It has no internal TV tuner, and I would like to use it as "TV #2" for my Dish Network (analog signal via coax from Dish receiver located in other room). I'm wondering if I can just buy an analog USB TV tuner and still be able to use it with the Touchsmart 3.0 TV software (I think its called mediasmart?)? If not, is there any TV tuner I can buy that will be compatible with the touchsmart 3.0 software (i.e. Avermedia)?... or am I stuck using the aftermarket, non-touch-friendly, non-touchsmart 3.0 program to watch TV?

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. We know the problem isn't with Flash because I was running it without huge background files or lock-up up while using IE8.
Installing an older version of Flash isn't an option because newer versions resolve some of the memory usage and flickering problem that older Flash versions caused on the new Hulu site. Some sites also require the newest patch and return an error message if an older version is detected.
I'm not sure what protected Flash mode does or doesn't do and hate to mess around with Flash when we already know it's been running without issues on my system using the other browser.
What I DO know is that the problem only started occurring when I made the switch from IE8 to Firefox. This weekend I had it happen again when I only had Firefox open and the Norton AV running out of Silent Mode in the background. Only the Flash thumbnails on the Hulu home page were active, not the Flash player and I started to get slowdown and lose mouse control.
I posted the issue over on the Norton forum also but don't expect a workaround. I think disabling that huge plugin-container file might help. By the time I've watched one video both Firefox and plug-in container are up around 200k each, much,much, much larger than anything else running on my system.
So is disabling plugin-containter still viable? Firefox crashing is never going to happen, if plug-in container freezes up my system first. Continually closing and reopening Firefox as a workaround doesn't seem to be way it was intended to perform.

The I Pod Touch Is Frozen. Only I Tunes Logo and USB Cable Image

I was doing the new download and it said there was an error completing the upload..
Now the only image on the screen is the I Tunes logo and the USB cable image. It will turn off but do nothing else.
I tried resetting it and nothing happens. It will not do anything. It does not show on my computer or I tunes.

This happened to me when the logo and cable comes on it either means that you have clicked to restoreit already try connecting it to itunes and click on the small little icon on the left of an ipod scroll down and click restore as nothing will happen if you don't restore it and syncing will not help it will stay the same.

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. Any USB TV tuner that will work on S10?

I've thought about adding a USB TV tuner, but the minimum system requirements seem beyond the S10's powers. Does anyone have experience using a USB TV tuner successfully on the netbook? Any concerns? For example, is there enough juice in the S10 to both watch and record?

I use a similiar card as kalvin and he is right, it's best to only use the drivers from the installer and leave the app. alone.

USB FM Tuner

I am in the midst of starting a new project.
An in car arch installation. One of the things I would be missing (because of the lack of a traditional head unit) would be the radio (FM). I have been on the hunt for one that would work with Arch (or any distro for that matter) and I have seen some recommendations. Unfortunately, all these recommendations are long since deactivated/out of stock/no longer in production/what have you.
So my request is simple. I am looking for a well supported USB FM tuner that can be plugged into my car's current antenna (to maintain signal and such) and be controlled relatively easily. If this comes in the form of a TV/FM combo tuner, that is ok. But i would like it to be as inexpensive as possible. (I have already done several hours of searching including traversing the V4L forums and WIKI)

A friend of mine who has a DSX S100 solved my problem.
It turns out that "Normally" the Blue Wire is for a power antennae, and is also used to turn on the Amplifier.
Apparently Sony found it necessary to make a Blue/White Stripe wire separate for the Amp, and the Blue wire is for the Antennae.
While I am happy the radio was working, there are a couple things I would like to point out:
A) Why would a 60 year old Biker be able to fix my problem, and Sony Technical Support (twice - two different Tech's over a total of two hours) couldn't? You would think this a "Common Issue" simply because its commonplace for the Blue Antennae wire to be used for the Amp... When people hook up a radio and use the RCA Outputs for an Amplifier, I dont know about you all, but I pull out the Red, Yellow, Black, and Blue Wires out of the mess of wires I wont be using.
B) I did check the Amplifier and it was on.. But what sense does it make that the FM Tuner works fine but the USB functions do not when the Blue Wire is hooked up to the Amplifier? That makes no sense whatsoever.
But, either way, the issue is resolved. I just thought you might like to know how it was resolved, and how the online tech's missed it.

I would suggest contacting Sonnet directly with that question. I spent over a year with their PCIe card trying to get it to work reliably in two Mac Pro's with 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 and never succeeded because of the drivers, which are really modified LaCie drivers. Switching to a CalDigit card solved the problem. I don't use hubs so I don't know if the CalDigit would work with them, but I suspect that adding a USB 3.0 hub to the mix would only make shaky (in my experience at least) drivers even shakier.

The problem I've had in Mac Pro with Hauppauge's USB myTV.PVR (which also had Eskape CD - 32 Bit that ran in Leopard but not Snow) was same message in Vista U. 32Bit : this device can perform better...
which I ignored. The message does not occur in Windows 7. I do have problems with MCE not recognizing the tuner occasionaly but prefer to use Hauppauge's WinTV 5,6,7 App. in any case.

Hello! i'm using a Macbook Air (mid-2012) 11.6". i'm in need of a USB tv tuner card. Which brand i should choose?
Please note that, Gadmei is the most available brand in our country. is it possible to use this brand of tv tuner (USB) with Macbook air? OS is- MacOSX 10.9.2 (mavericks). Please suggest.
Also plz tell me is there any way to use Gadmei or RealMedia TV tuner with mac without official mac driver? (i mean using EyeTV or such third-party TV app)

Unfortunately most of these TV devices require USB2 bandwidth so are not suitable for the iMac G3.
The Firewire versions (EyeTV 310, 410 and 610 depending on input type) are the only options.
The EyeTV 250 is an analogue only Tuner that does work on USB1.1 but in a low quality mode only.

How do i stop i tunes opening and duplicating everything i want to play please

Every time i try to play a song that is either stored on my MacBook air ( mid 2011, still on Lion ) or i try to access it from a drive, if i click twice by accident i tunes opens and duplicates the song. That is really annoying.
I do not want i tunes to open, and i cannot stand its invasive nature.
I have tried changing the default music player to something other than i tunes but i tunes overrides it every time.
Could someone please tell me how to replace i tunes as the default music player properly so that it actually works and could someone recommend a music player that can play track after track without having to manually press play for every track i want to play please.

I forgot to say that i would be happy for i tunes to play songs if it did not duplicate every song thereby using up twice the memory of my already small installed memory ( 120 gb with only 50 gb left despite storing virtually nothing on this mac ? ).
I just want a player that will play music from any source - sdd drives, external hard drives etc - but not duplicate it on the internal memory. Surely this is possible ?
I even tried deleting i tunes but it would not let me, stating that it is essential for the operating system which is just intrusive and too rigid for modern technology.
