USB TV Tuner - Remote Sensor Required or Not?

This SavvyCat is not feeling so savvy at the moment.  I have been researching the USB TV tuner and the manuals online indicate it comes with a separate remote sensor, but the "what's in the box" doesn't list these items.  If I purchase the dv7t notebook, I intend to integrate it with my television and it will spend most of it's life sitting on the entertainment center, so I do expect to use the remote.
Can anyone clarify the discrepancies between the product description and the available documentation?  I don't need to get sucked into another bad purchase like my TV (the online manual for that was completely wrong about one of the features that I specifically wanted it for).
Thanks!

Since it's clear that no one from HP or having useful information comes here, I thought I would answer my own questions now that I have it all figured out for the archive.
First, the documentation provided in this site is not accurate, or at least updated, as of this date, so do not base your assumptions on anything you see while conducting your research.  The documentation shows a slightly different remote, and the images and description of what's in the box is different from what you will receive.  The online user guide shows an IR (infrared) receiver and additional cables.  All that is in the box is what's listed on the USB TV Tuner sales page.
The remote works by RF (apparently), so you would think it doesn't need "line of sight," but it does.  I have been using Windows Media Center and the remote activates it just fine from a distance of about 10 feet.  I can't test any farther than that.

  • AiO Remote Ink Levels etc not accessible with USB connection

My printer prints and scans just fine...except that it ran out of ink after about 15 pages. I'm trying to view the ink levels, but everything in the HP AiO Remote says it's not supported with the USB connection. There's no other way to connect my printer. I need to view the ink levels and be able to put in new ink, but I can't because the software isn't working right. Help?

    Hi @HnnhSmth95,
I see by your post that you are unable to view the ink levels by a USB connection. I can help you with this, but I will need some more information.

  • Remote Sensor not working HP h8-1260t

My computer works fine to watch TV on Windows Media Center using an over the air antenna.  But the Remote sensor does not seem to be working.  I have the remote sensor plugged into the IR IN spot.  When I press any of the remote control buttons, nothing happens.  There is not even a light on the remote sensor indicating that it has detected any signal.  The Device Manager shows a functional "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" in the Human Interface Devices section.  I have tried to update the drivers, but it states no update needed.  I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers as well without any luck.  Any advice appreciated.

    Hello again Jbschwart,
Thank you for the quick feedback on the status of your issue. Have you tried a Clean Boot yet? I am providing you with an Microsoft Support document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows, which will guide you through the process. As well another thing to try is to follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7), which will guild you through the process of restoring your computer back to a point in time where the IR worked.
My last thought on this would be to try the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7) to back your personal files up and then use the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) to recover your computer back to factory.
As the recovery back to factory will replace ALL the software if the issue persists then it is a hardware issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

The problem I've had in Mac Pro with Hauppauge's USB myTV.PVR (which also had Eskape CD - 32 Bit that ran in Leopard but not Snow) was same message in Vista U. 32Bit : this device can perform better...
which I ignored. The message does not occur in Windows 7. I do have problems with MCE not recognizing the tuner occasionaly but prefer to use Hauppauge's WinTV 5,6,7 App. in any case.

  • Msi pvs does not see my vox usb tv tuner

my friend gave me a vox usb tv tuner so i installed the driver and the msi pvs software but the pvs software says "cannot detect device...."
anyone know wat i could do about this????

First of all the vox usb tv tuner will operate on Xp home SP2.
If you open the device manager, then Sound, video and game controllers you will probably see that USB2820 has been installed.
You must have MSI MS8609 Video installed as MSI PVS or MSI PVS 3 will only talk to the drive of this name.
Both drivers are provided by eMPIA technology and maybe the vox identifies itself as USB2820.
You will notice I posted the same problem a few days ago.
A partial solution I found was to uninstall USB2820 drivers and install the MSI MS8609 Video driver.  I have not been able to install the driver of 2005 as found on the
MSI site but can install the 2004 version that came with my vox CD.  The partial solution is the schedule/record function of MSI PVS 3 does not work with this driver so
I must run MSP PVS for the schedule/record function.

  • My USB port (closest to the screen) is not working? And what is an IR Receiver in my USB port?

    Hi everyone,
I recently found out that my USB port, closest to my screen, is not working. Before I called Apple Care for help, I performed a PRAM and a SMC RESET, which unfortunately did not work. I called Apple Care and they help me troubleshoot simple resets such as, shutdowns and restarts. The representative I spoke with conluded that the physical hardware has an issue and must be brought to the Apple Store for a diagnosis. I called the Apple Store to at least budget the fee for getting a USB port fixed and it's about $300.00. I never dropped my macbook or had any sort tactile encounterment with hard surfaces by dropping or hitting. I don't understand how my macbook pro would be physically damaged. I then thought maybe my software was out of date (right now I am running 10.9 Mavericks) or I forgot to do the minor software updates, but I was at a lost again because my macbook is up-to-date. I searched for further help and found a way to monitor what's plugged into my usb ports. (I read in the apple forums that a girl had nothing in her usb ports, but upon looking at the System Information> Hardware> USB, that the macbook recognizes that there are drives in the ports) I looked at my ports; one is being used by wirless mouse (the port that works) and the other (the port that doesnt work) is being used by an "IR RECEIVER". Now, is the IR Receiver actually using that port and that's why my macbook cannot recognize other devices inserted into that port? Or is the IR RECEIVER suppose to be in that port and that the hardware for that port is simply damaged (which would mean I need $300.00 to get that fixed)? I know this is a lot, but someone help me?

I can help with the "IR Receiver" part of your question. That's the piece of hardware inside older MacBook Pros (MBPs) that lets them work with the Apple Remote. "IR" is the standard abbreviation for "infrared," the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum used by remotes for many common devices (stereos, cable boxes, Apple TVs, etc.). The remote sends a coded stream of IR pulses; a corresponding receiver in the target device "sees" the infrared light and decodes it. The MBP's internal IR Receiver sends the received signals to the processor via USB through an internal hub.
The most recent MacBook Pros have dropped the IR receiver and no longer work with the Apple Remote.

  • USB TV Tuner Card for Macbook Air

    Dear all,
Hello! i'm using a Macbook Air (mid-2012) 11.6". i'm in need of a USB tv tuner card. Which brand i should choose?
Please note that, Gadmei is the most available brand in our country. is it possible to use this brand of tv tuner (USB) with Macbook air? OS is- MacOSX 10.9.2 (mavericks). Please suggest.
Also plz tell me is there any way to use Gadmei or RealMedia TV tuner with mac without official mac driver? (i mean using EyeTV or such third-party TV app)
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

Unfortunately most of these TV devices require USB2 bandwidth so are not suitable for the iMac G3.
The Firewire versions (EyeTV 310, 410 and 610 depending on input type) are the only options.
The EyeTV 250 is an analogue only Tuner that does work on USB1.1 but in a low quality mode only.

  • Can I watch Dish Network using Touchsmart 3.0 and an external USB TV tuner?

I just bought a Touchsmart 300-1003 (got a great deal), and it hasn't arrived yet.  It has no internal TV tuner, and I would like to use it as "TV #2" for my Dish Network (analog signal via coax from Dish receiver located in other room). I'm wondering if I can just buy an analog USB TV tuner and still be able to use it with the Touchsmart 3.0 TV software (I think its called mediasmart?)? If not, is there any TV tuner I can buy that will be compatible with the touchsmart 3.0 software (i.e. Avermedia)?... or am I stuck using the aftermarket, non-touch-friendly, non-touchsmart 3.0 program to watch TV?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. We know the problem isn't with Flash because I was running it without huge background files or lock-up up while using IE8.
Installing an older version of Flash isn't an option because newer versions resolve some of the memory usage and flickering problem that older Flash versions caused on the new Hulu site. Some sites also require the newest patch and return an error message if an older version is detected.
I'm not sure what protected Flash mode does or doesn't do and hate to mess around with Flash when we already know it's been running without issues on my system using the other browser.
What I DO know is that the problem only started occurring when I made the switch from IE8 to Firefox. This weekend I had it happen again when I only had Firefox open and the Norton AV running out of Silent Mode in the background. Only the Flash thumbnails on the Hulu home page were active, not the Flash player and I started to get slowdown and lose mouse control.
I posted the issue over on the Norton forum also but don't expect a workaround. I think disabling that huge plugin-container file might help. By the time I've watched one video both Firefox and plug-in container are up around 200k each, much, much, much larger than anything else running on my system.
So is disabling plugin-containter still viable? Firefox crashing is never going to happen, if plug-in container freezes up my system first. Continually closing and reopening Firefox as a workaround doesn't seem to be way it was intended to perform.

'Remote' app requirements are stated as "software version 3.1.3 or later". I am running 4.2.1 and when I try to download it says 4.3 required.
OK, I understand that new versions make use of facilities that come with new versions of IOS, but there is/was a version that runs on 3.1.3 and therefore, I assume 4.2.1. Where can I get the (old) version that runs on my IOS?
The app store seems to ignore all legacy equipment owners, and want me to spend loadsa money to get the latest shiny toy. It probably makes business sense, but I dislike companies that take that approach. This is my first venture into smart phones, and I like the IOS interface, but I'm not sure I can afford the maintenance.

This is standard for Apple.  While there is little official mention of the software support lifespan for equipment, typical support has been about 4-5 years for computers.  It strikes me that newer items, especially mobile devices, are not built as sturdily nor do they have the hardware upgrade capabilities required to keep up with newer systems.  When we bought an iPhone 4S we were told by the person in the store we'd probably be looking at a newer model in two years.  The iPhone 3G could be anywhere from 2 to 4 years old, putting it well into.
As for app availability, Apple typically pulls old software versions from its site when new versions appear.  If it is a non-Apple app then I guess it is up to the vendor. It is indeed tiresome but it is not at all unusual.  Since I only ever run used Macs, I download current versions even though my computer won't run them, stick them on a hard drive, then I have them when I upgrade to a newer used computer.  If you run older equipment you have to learn a different mode of operation to exist with the Apple 'new and innovative' but 'forget about the old' philosophy.

  • USB TV tuner software for OS X?

I just bought a USB TV tuner, and right now I have to boot my Mac Pro into boot camp in order to use it.  Is there some kind of software for OS X that I can use so that I don't have to do that?
