USB video adapter
I have a MBpro running the latest OSx 10.8.2. I am wondering any anyone can recommend a stable USB video Adapter. I have recently tried using display link and other such devices however when Mac OS updates the drivers seem to lag on there compatibility and never the less my system crashes. I have recently switched to a matrox dualhead2go ME which works great however when viewing apps at full screen mode it falls to recognize that I am using 2 screen and see my Mac as one giant screen. I am trying to see if anyone out there has found and been able to use a USB graphics card with success and no buggy issues on Mac 10.8.2. my setup is this.
MacBook Pro i7
to monitors. one connected to display port and the other I am hoping to connect a USB video adapter. Thanks in advance for your help.
As stated in a similar thread:
"This seems to not be possible with OS X's Full Screen mode. I know that since this feature (Full Screen apps) debuted with Lion, this has been a major complaint on the web. You can give your feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/."
In summary, even with multiple screens, only one full screen app can be utilized as once. I also recommend giving feedback to Apple.

Usb video adapter not working in windows 8.1 on Hp Envy23
Since upgrading to windows 8.1 on my Envy 23 all in one, the usb video adapter stopped working. I cannot get my 2nd monitor to work. Anyone have a solution to this?
Hi,
It's not an HP product, please try its support page:

Usb video adapter and multiple desktops
I just upgraded my mbp mid-2010 to 10.8. Everything is fine, wait for it, until I try to use my external usb vga adapter. When that is plugged in and I instert anything into another usb port it creates a new desktop and steals focus from what I did have dispalyed. So literally I will be working on my remote session, plug in a flash drive, my remote session screen goes away and a blank desktop is now shown on the external monitor. I have the logic board problem with NVidia problem so I can't use the mini-display port. I went into Command Center and turned that thing off, thinking it was causing it.
So I guess that is the question: why does it create all these darn desktops when all I want are just the mbp display and the external monitor?mission control*

What is Lync doing that it won't display on a USB video adapter?
My company rolled out Lync 2013 to us and while Lync 2010 displayed just fine on my extra monitor attached by USB video, 2013 does not refresh at all. Not even the slider bar can be grabbed to move it up and down. The only action available
is to drag it to the laptop built in display where it works OK. I have this extra monitor just for low bandwidth items like instant messages and email, so what the heck is this IM client doing that is too wierd video-wise? Every other business
use program is working on the USB (which is a SIIG USB2 to VGA); I can even watch slightly choppy videos in IE 9.
Yes, the drivers for both the USB and the integrated Intel video up to date.
This seems a case of excessive bloatware if a chat client is doing such complex video tricks that it can't display properly. Lync 2010's "share screen" even worked on the USB, so whatever they've done to 2013 is too special. All Monitors option allows you to present everything on your screen. If you have multiple monitors, viewers will see them side-by-side.
Make sure you choose the extra monitor.

Can't reach network video server on Mac Mini's USB Ethernet Adapter.
I am trying to connect an IP video server to my Mac Mini's USB>Ethernet adapter. The server works fine on the built in Ethernet "en(0)", but is unreachable on the USB>Ethernet adapter network"en(3)".
Is this a subnet issue? I don't know much about networking obviously, but I think I just need to find a way to designate the proper port to look on, because the Mac is looking on the built in Ethernet only when I specify http://192.168.0.90:80/
The en(3) is configured for DCHP.
I could just hook the server up to the built in Ethernet, but then I'll have to run new and very long cat 5 cable.
I'd love to hear any ideas on how to get this working. The Network Settings for the USB>Ethernet port are:
IPv4: Using DHCP
IP Address 169.254.33.152
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: (none)

Can I use Apple DVI to Video Adapter to import video to my macbook pro?
I was wondering if i could use the Apple DVI to Video Adapter to import videos from my camcorder that don't have usb or firewire but have a S-video. to my laptop? and import them to iMovie
Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you mean without internet, then yes, providing it isn't a purchased video (The Apple TV may need to verify authorisation). If you mean without a network, then no. -
Mini DVI video adapter doesn't plug into MacBook
I purchased a Mini DVI video adapter at the time that I purchased my MacBook in late 2007. I planned to use it later to connect to a larger monitor. I also purchase a MacBook for my wife in late 2008. I recently realized that this Mini DVI video adapter will not plug into the display plugin on either MacBook. I searched, but cannot find any video adapter that will actually plug in to either MacBook.
Here's a mini-DVI cable and port
Here's a mini-DisplayPort port:
Here's a mini-VGA cable and port (the port is to the right of the USB 2 port):
This should help you determine what you actually have. -
USB wifi adapter can only handle one request or socket at a time
I have a usb wifi adapter that I bought recently. The strange thing is that if I'm doing only one thing that is using the network (e.g. downloading a file) it works good and fast. But say I'm downloading a file and I do ANYTHING else that uses the network (e.g. just opening a browser at google.ca), the download comes to a stop. Then if I close the browser, the download starts up again a couple seconds later, good and fast.
Another example is, say I'm in a Google Hangouts (video chat) session. As long as that is the only thing I have running, the chat works fine. If I open a second browser window, then the chat gets super choppy and pretty much un-usable until I close the second window.
So basically it seems like I can have only one open socket at a time, or else it can handle only one request at a time. Also, most webpages open very slowly as a result because the browser only seems to be able to download one static file at a time (e.g. js and css files needed by the page).
I'm sure it's a problem with the usb wifi adapter because I didn't have these problems when I was on a wired connection, and I have other devices using wifi (e.g. laptops and tablets) that don't have this problem either.
Rather than paste a bunch of output from commands, please kindly tell me what to run in order to gather any useful info.
Thanks,
Edit: The adapter is an ASUS USB n-53 (N600).

I'm wondering if changing drivers might help. Can someone help me interpret the installation instructions?

Travel Adapter and iPod USB Power Adapter
I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but this is all new to me so please bear with me I just bought an iPod video, a World Travel Adapter kit and the Power Duo kit - which contains a power block wall charger, USB mini cable, and car charger. I was looking at the plugs in the travel kit and do not see how they work. The product data says that it works with the USB power adapter - which at this point I am assuming is different than the power block wall charger? Can someone verify this for me? Also, can someone then tell me how these travel adapters plug into the USB power adapter (or power block wall charger) so that they can be used when traveling overseas. I can't tell from the photo of the USB adapter how this would be done...I don't want to buy yet another power adapter if I don't need one, but I sure can't see how they work with what I have so far or how they would work with the USB power adapter..I would have thought that the travel kit would have some with everything that I need but apparently it doesn't.
Thanks in advance.

ipod video Other OSNow I have hooked it up to a PC without itunes on it. The ipods says it is charging but when you disconnect you can see that the battery level is even lower. Does this mean that I should just take back the ipod to exchange it for a working one?

Boot Camp 2.x and Windows XP incompatible with Radeon 1600 Video Adapter
Using Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 from a Leopard Install, I generated a 20GB partition and installed Windows XP SP2 reformatting during the install to NTFS. At this point things seemed to be working well. I then used my Leopard Install disk to update the MAC drivers. Now when I tried to reboot, I see the Windows splash window, the screen goes black, the screen goes cyan, then the screen goes black and stays that way. At this point, I cannot do anything with the Windows XP partition other than a power down by holding the power key. If I try to reboot on the XP partition, it goes through a hard drive repair, then goes black screen, light blue screen, black screen, hung. I can boot with Safe Boot, but I have no keyboard or trackpad drivers. I can run the system with an external USB mouse and keyboard.
A friend found that the Video Adapters being used were a problem. (We can't find the reference.) If I go to Start/RightClick My Computer/Hardware/Device Manager/Video Adapters, I can right click on whatever adapters are located there and Uninstall them. At this point, the system will boot up fine using a generic video adapter. I don't know how well it would work if you wanted to use it for high speed gaming.
On bootup I could get to the Internet. I went to Start/All Programs/Windows Update and did the Windows Update. I did it twice to get everything updated to Service Pak 3. (I have read that there is a problem if you upgrade the Apple Drivers to version 2.1 before you upgrade to Service Pak 3.)
At this point, I installed the Boot Camp Update 2.1 and all worked well. I then installed Update 2.2 and the video was again a problem. It appears that the system was booting up ok, but it was happening behind a black screen. If I booted up in Safe Mode, connected a USB Mouse and Uninstalled the Video Adapter/Radeon 1600, I could boot up and the system worked fine.
Unfortunately, Windows (for the first time that I know of) was smart enough to recognize that there was new hardware (the X1600) and it reinstalled the @!#$#-ed X1600 driver without asking me. Now I couldn't reboot without it hanging again.
The final step was that I found that if, instead of Uninstalling, I Disabled the X1600, I can now run using the generic Video Adapter and Windows does not re-enable it.
I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem, so they don't waste 2 weeks like I did.Hi Dave,
thanks for these informations.
Before my beloved 2006 iMac went awry and finally bit the dust, I have used the ATI MobilityCatalyst Drivers for XP.
If you're in for another try, here's the link http://support.amd.com/de/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?typ e=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.10&lang=English
Using the Generic Microsoft Graphics driver is IMHO not a solution, as it really only supports a minimum of the capabilities of the X1600 and is definitely not suited for gaming.

Hello, I recently became curious about ways to watch and record TV onto my older (2007) imac. I also am interested in maybe connecting my xbox 360 and playing games on my mac's screen. I ddi some research and found numerous ways to watch and record television, but I would like to know, are any of these products (namely ATI's All in Wonder USB or Elgato's products) any good for gaming? That would be a major breaker for me if the video was found to be slow or laggy. So I guess my question is that are any of these good for S-Video adaptions? Or is there something else that anyone could recommend, like just a S-Video adapter that was easy to use, but still gave decent quality and speed. Any input would be appreciated, thanks!
The Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus

has a game mode that turns off the hardware encoder to minimize delay.

Attaching VGA video adapter and Firewire device
I'm using the VGA video adapter to attach my brand new Mac mini to a VGA screen. As the space between video port and Firewire port is too narrow with the VGA video adapter attached I can't connect any Firewire cable!
Anyone who knows how to connect VGA video adapter and Firewire device at the same time? The DVI-VGA adapter I got with my last mini was barely wider than the video port on the back of the mini and since a firewire connector is also barely wider than the FW port itself, there was no problem connecting to both at the same time, with a small but distinct space between. Indeed, it's about the same space as between the adapter and a cable plugged into the nearest of the USB ports on the other side.
If you're having problems, you might find that connecting the firewire cable first might help, but otherwise either the adapter or the connector on your firewire cable is non-standard. If you still can't connect both, take the mini, along with your firewire cable and the DVI-VGA adapter to an Apple store and ask them to try. -
I am looking at a couple of devices for Powerpoint presentations and have come to the realization that I will not be able to do composite video out from my macbook pro with the mini-display port.
So I found a couple of pico/led projectors that have usb input. Will my macbook Pro work with these? Does the MB Pro output video through it's usb port.
http://www.hmdxaudio.com/review/product/list/id/1426/
thanks for the helpThere are USB video adapters that work with MBPs, so yes, it can output video via USB. I don't know whether or not those adapters require proprietary drivers or prefpanes; if they do, your projector will too. Here's an example of such an adapter:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VIDU2DVIA/
You may want to call OWC and ask whether that adapter needs a driver or just works without one.
You could check with the maker of the projector, though I suspect they don't want to be bothered with any questions: the link to the projector's instruction manual on the page you linked goes nowhere. I wonder if it even comes with instructions. -
Usb video capture device software
i have a usb video capture device and i wanted to know if there was a program that lets you watch your vhs movies with it on your computer
Not totally following you here.
You can get an adapter that allows you to plug, say, your VCR into the computer to copy video from a VHS to a DVD, and have it edited on the computer, is that what you are looking for?
My opinions are mine, and mine alone. -
Onlocation firewire to USB video camera?
Wondering if its possible to connect a camera with USB port through a USB/Firewire adapter into a laptop for use with Onlocation?
Read previous Q&A stating onlocation can only accept firewire signal. USB not designed for video. etc.
Just wondering if camera USB output could be converted with an adapter to a Firewire signal at the laptop and onlocation show the video?
Not trying to capture with laptop, just use onlocation for camera setup and video monitor during avchd capture on the camera without firewire port?
Any help appreciated.
Regards
JDEven if you could find such an adapter, it still would not work because the limitation is in the camera--it doesn't stream live video out through the USB port. As far as I'm aware, no camera does this. The USB ports are there for file-based transfer of recorded footage from some sort of solid-state memory contained in the camera, whether it's internal memory, an SD card, a hard drive, or something else.
Your only bet in this case is to use the analog video outputs (assuming the camera has them--this is what you'd normally use to view the camera's footage directly on a TV) and then an analog-to-digital converter that would plug in to the computer via 1394. You'd have to set the camera's analog output mode to SD, if you have the option, and you would need an A/D converter like those from Canopus/Grass Valley (ie. ADVC-110). This is pretty cumbersome, but it's the only way you'd be able to monitor from this particular camera via OnLocation.
