USB Video Camera

I have a Panasonic HDD Video Camcorder. It came with a USB cable set up. Can I bypass the IMovie step or am I OOL in trying to rig FCE to work directly with the Camcorder. The camcorder itself did not come with a FW option or with Mac Software. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Tom sorry I have a Hard Drive Camera model number SDR-H40P I am looking to use something to go from the camera right into FCE rather then going back and forth from IMovie. Which is a PITA....

I have a usb video camera and a pci tv card on my computer. However when I reboot they change between /dev/video0 and /dev/video1. How can I set it up so that every time they will be assigned the same /dev/videoX device?

I'll bet you are having a similar problem to that which happens with disk drives.  Take a look at this wiki article on how to deal with drives that swap.  I think the same technique can be applied to supplement 60-persistent-v4l.rules.
    I've not tried this, YMMV

  • Onlocation firewire to USB video camera?

Wondering if its possible to connect a camera with USB port through a USB/Firewire adapter into a laptop for use with Onlocation?
Read previous Q&A stating onlocation can only accept firewire signal. USB not designed for video. etc.
Just wondering if camera USB output could be converted with an adapter to a Firewire signal at the laptop and onlocation show the video?
Not trying to capture with laptop, just use onlocation for camera setup and video monitor during avchd capture on the camera without firewire port?
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards
    JD

Even if you could find such an adapter, it still would not work because the limitation is in the camera--it doesn't stream live video out through the USB port. As far as I'm aware, no camera does this. The USB ports are there for file-based transfer of recorded footage from some sort of solid-state memory contained in the camera, whether it's internal memory, an SD card, a hard drive, or something else.
Your only bet in this case is to use the analog video outputs (assuming the camera has them--this is what you'd normally use to view the camera's footage directly on a TV) and then an analog-to-digital converter that would plug in to the computer via 1394. You'd have to set the camera's analog output mode to SD, if you have the option, and you would need an A/D converter like those from Canopus/Grass Valley (ie. ADVC-110). This is pretty cumbersome, but it's the only way you'd be able to monitor from this particular camera via OnLocation.

  • FaceTime with logitec video camera causes the mac mini t. Face if

Each time I try to run FaceTime on my mac mini with a logitec USB video camera ( mac version) it causes a lock up and requires a full reboot.

It sounds like it is mistaking the camera for a DVD disk. So my best follow-up question is to ask:
    1. Who is the manufaturer of your camera
    2. What is the model number of this camera.
What happens when you quit DVD player. Does iMovie still fail?

  • IMac does not recognize digital video camera plugged into USB port

    Hi Everyone,
I received a Kodak Zi8 digital video camera as a gift recently. I was told it was compatible with macs. When I plug the camera into the USB port of the mac it doesn't recognize that it is there. I read on one discussion board to turn the camera on and off if necessary. I have done so and it still doesn't recognize it. Does anyone have a solution they could recommend? Thanks in advance.

With the Zi8, you have to manually import the video into iMovie.
Launch iMovie. Go to File - Import Movies. Find your camera volume (it may be called KODAK or NONAME), navigate into the folder structure, find the DCIM folder and import the .mov files you find there.

  • Video camera output (i.Link or Firewire) to connect to my MacBook Air USB input

Is there a way to for my video camera output (i.Link or Firewire) to connect to my MacBook Air USB input??? Is there any kind of adapter?? I have many movies I want to edit on my Mac

I don't believe firewire to usb adapters exist.
Which MacBook Air do you have? If you have the 2011 model with Thunderbolt, then, you are in luck.
Thunderbolt to firewire adaptors will be available.

  • How do I delete invisible MP4 files from my FLIP video camera attached by USB?

Hello!  I have a FLIP video camera attached to my MacBook by USB.  The FLIP has invisible files (old videos that I have previously deleted from the camera) that I want to delete.  I can see them in Finder using File/Find/Other/Invisible Files but I ****cannot**** seem to delete them.  The "move to trash" option is not available in Finder/File.  When I drag the files to trash they don't actually move.
    Help!
    Thank you.

The simplest way is to reformat or reinitialize the card using the menu on the camera.

Is there a lightning cable to usb that would allow me to input video from my HD video camera?

Note, that the video must be in a format understood by the iPad. Not all cameras produce videos in formats that the iPad can read.

  • Digital Video Camera with USB connection

If anyone can help me please let me know. I own a Sony Digital Video Camera that's 3 years old. It connects to my iMAC through a USB port. I can not figure out how to load my videos to iMovie. Is this camera too old? When I connect the USB port nothing happens; nothing appears on my desktop.

    George,
i'm not sure if you can download Image Capture from the Apple Website separately or if it comes as a total download of a specific version of OSX. If you have the original system discs that came with your computer, maybe that would have it, or worst case, an option to "Restore Software." Since you camera records to a DVD, you have another option: Do a Google search for MPEG Streamclip and download it (free). Basically, MPEG Streamclip will convert the files on the DVD back to DV files for editing in iMovie. I don't have any first-hand experience with a DVD camera, so you might also need to download Apple's MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple's site) if the video on your DVDs is in MPEG-2 format. Come to think of it, I downloaded some MPEG movies from my digital still camera (it takes simple movies) using Image Capture and I still needed to use both MPEG Streamclip and the Apple Component to get it into iMovie, so maybe skip Image Capture and go for these two programs. I know it should be easier to do than this, but unfortunately getting video back off of a DVD is not what Apple wanted you to do. They setup their movie edit programs to accept DV files. The movies on a DVD are already highly compressed, so you actually need to reverse the process and get these compressed movies back to DV. Most PC computers allow, and even suggest, that you import MPEG movies for editing, but that is toally backwards. That explains why the PC discussion boards are filled with toally frustrated and confused people. Most PC computers still don't come with Firewire. They just don't get it.

  • Re: Satellite L - How to connect my digital video cam?

I have a Canon digital video camera (bought in 2004). I have been using it to transfer movies onto my other Toshiba laptop, but there is no place to plug in on my new laptop. I did use a iEEE1394 but it doesn't work on this one.

You should try to reinstall Service Station, I think this should work. Just download the newest version of Toshiba service station on official Toshiba website and install it:

But dont forget to remove the old version first before you install the newest one. ;)
