Usb vs bluetooth

I am in the process of buying a Mac Mini. I have 3 questions about purchasing a wireless keyboard.
My Mini will be on the lower level of the house with a monitor. On the floor directly above is a big screen TV-I already have the adapter & hook up to the TV. Which is more advantageous to have, USB or Bluetooth keyboard to use with either?
Question 2 - can anyone suggest a wireless touchpad mouse mini keyboard.
I found 2.
Adesso Wkb4000MAC slimtouch usb wireless & RF Wireless Mini Mac Keyboard with
Touchpad and USB Receiver
3 - should I look further for Bluetooth ?? where ??
thanks in advance Diane

Bluetooth will probably have trouble transmitting through the floor. Bluetooth is typically good for about 8 feet with no obstacles.
What is the advertised maximum range of the usb-rf system? (It might do better.)

  • Please Help: no internet on MBP (10.8.3) via iPhone 5 (6.1.4) personal hotspot, usb or bluetooth

    Hello all,
I used to be able to get Internet on my MBP (mid 2009 13, OSX 10.8.3) through iPhone 5 (ios 6.1.4) using either USB or bluetooth. Now, the personal hotspot LINK between my MBP and Iphone via bluetooth is ACTIVE (the blue bar says there's a connection), but there's NO INTERNET CONNECTION. USB tethering doesn't work at all (no blue bar).
Because the personal hotpot still works between my iPhone 5 and iPad 2, I suspect that the problem is with my mac. I've tried re-pairing my Mac and the phone a couple of times. I've reset iPhone network settings. Nothing I tried helped. Can someone help please?
    Thanks, Shiang

I was asking whether you could tether via Wi-Fi. I take it that you can't.
Run the Network Diagnostics assistant. How far do you get?

  • Share information from chip GPS to PC with USB or BLUETOOTH

    Hi!
I want know if it's possible connect my iphone to my pc with USB or BLUETOOTH, to share information from the gps chip as a tethering mode.

    Hello Sir!
After weeks of testing, i found the solution of my question. It´s quiet simply!!
1º iPhone (3G Internet acess) connected to Mac mini by USB or BlueTooth or WiFi.
2ª in Mac mini must be activated in "Preferencias", "Compartir", the option "Compartir Internet",
"Compartir Conexión desde":   iPhone USB  or  Bluetooth PAN
         "Con otros Ordenadores vía":  Ethernet
3º Ethernet cable must be connected from Mac mini to Time Capsule !!
4º In Time Capsule "Internet":  connect by:  DHCP
                                 "Network": bridged
    Nothing more!!!  Sooooo simply!!
After this, Windows XP SP3 connect without problem over TC´s WiFi or Ethernet to the Internet!
Also other Devices like IPad, or other iPhone, etc.
Of course it can be a created a WiFi connection (PPP) between the iPhone and the Mac
    and it´s working to.
But ALWAYS, by changing the connection mode, must be changed the Thethering mode.
    In- and Out-Going!
Thank you for your help, no I made me a "small" TC expert...lol

  • Nokia 5310 + internet through USB or bluetooth

I was wondering whether it is possible to browse the internet on Nokia 5310 using a bluetooth or USB connection instead of GPRS, mainly because the inverse is possible (browse internet on my PC using data connection from my phone through USB or bluetooth).
If yes, how can I do? If no, is there any hope to become possible?

Although, through bluetooth method is promising.

  • Tethering impact on battery with USB vs Bluetooth

Assuming an on-the-go scenario with the MBA and an iPhone4, if I want to use tethering which one would be more battery friendly for the MBA: USB or Bluetooth tethering?
My instinct tells me BT, since the MBA would not be trying to charge the iPhone with the USB cable. But not sure how much power the BT radio uses.
    Thoughts?

    Hi
Interesting question. I had considered using tethering with my iphone, however in the end I opted for the USB dongle option instead. My main thinking was twofold:
    1) I didn't want to have to be reliant on my iphone being fully charged. Although it rarely happens, I do get caught out sometimes (e.g. when travelling and forgetting the charger cable). With a USB dongle, you don't have to worry about that.
    2) I deliberately selected a USB dongle on a different network to that of my Iphone. If I can't get a good signal on one network, there is a chance I might be fine on the other.
The other thing to consider is the impact on your iphone battery with tethering. I would imagine the simultaneous data transfer and bluetooth operation would impact the battery charge quite a bit. Has anyone got any experience of this?

  • HP ENVY 6t has many issues with USB headphone, Bluetooth and more serious issue

HP ENVY 6t doesn't work with USB headphone, unfortunately. could u let me know how to fix it?
Bluetooth mouse has been working for a day, it suddenly stopped working. Having checked the PC bluetooth connection, which said "Working properly".   Could you let me know how to re-connect, or re-work?
"Not complete shut-down" blue screen issue right after receiving the HP PC when I closed display to be in sleep mode.
I see the "Safe mode" "...." or "Normal mode" screen always.
The HP PC is not stable UNFORTUNATELY.
Even if just brand new HP PC, there seems to be many issues.

I would recommend using this document for your mouse: http://goo.gl/XDRRy
And using this document to troubleshoot your headphones issue: http://goo.gl/hV9fu
Most of the time with USB headphones, you have to download the driver from the manufacturer before they will work properly.

  • No USB, iSight, Bluetooth, keyboard (water damage)

This is a peculiar problem, as I have not been able to find anyone else experiencing the same thing. I have a 2006 MacBook Pro. A few months ago, I spilled a bit of water on it (I know, I know...shame on me). Shut it off for a few days. When I powered on, everything worked fine except the S, Z, M, left apple, and left option keys. After a few more days, they all quit. Then would come back on making random characters and typing nonsense characters without touching it. Then would work fine (with the exception of the previously mentioned keys). This repeated for a while. Soon the USB went out. Next the iSight and the Bluetooth. The keyboard has now stopped functioning completely.
The odd thing is...the trackpad works fine, and the backlight is functioning normally. I can use a keyboard via USB, but it won't send enough power to turn lights on (caps lock, num lock). They will not recognize an external hard drive, or iPhone. However, upon booting, it will send a brief charge to an iPhone, then stop. I'm guessing it is a logic board problem, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the culprit could be if not. If so, is there a way to fix it?
In short, keyboard, USB, iSight, and Bluetooth, not working. Trackpad, backlight, FireWire, and everything else functions normally.

The only way to get everything up and running is to take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on it. It's likely that you fried some part of the logic board with your liquid spill and it will likely take a logic board replacement to 'fix' everything. While it might be quite expensive, you could always ask about the Apple Flat-Rate Repair Pricing scheme - maybe you can get the whole computer serviced for less than $350.

  • URGEND: After cloned backup neither usb nor bluetooth mouse recognized

    ahhhhhh, help needed....
after bootcamp kills my complete system disc during installing xp i've cloned my backup copy onto my ereased system disc. every things fine (besides some errors) but now my macpro don't recognize neither the usb nor the bluetooth mouse.
the keyboard works fine and i've tried every usb slot and a powered hub without no luck.
the bt mouse getting recognized by the bt assistant, connect and ready, BUT it's not working. the "tray" symbol shows it's connected.....
i've tried the following: pr reset, board reset, permission repaired, new directory by diskwarrior = nothing
behind the error window of chronosync is another one from parallels which says that the "connectusb.kext" extension wasn't correctly installed.
i've tried to copy the extensions from my macbook parallels but the error still occurs.
i'm not sure but i think there can't be any connection between the parallels extension error and my overall mouse dis function, or can it be???
plz help, cause i've got no possibility to archive and install the system cause i'm on an non authorized tiger 10.4.11 system on an early macpro
    thx sooooooo much/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
cheers and sorry for double posting

Just watching various posts on forums to see what I should do next. I updated to 10.6 from DVD, then went to 10.6.5, and my keyboard and mouse would stop working, and then start working again when I unplugged and replugged the keyboard (I have the mouse plugged into the keyboard). I don't want to spend all day unplugging and plugging my keyboard. I just went back to core 10.6 from the DVD, all my main software seems to work, so unless I have problems, I'm just sticking with core 10.6 until things get resolved.
I might try updating to 10.6.2, or 10.6.4, but not until I'm forced into it (when something is really not working on unstable). I do mostly music and video work. The only reason I updated was because something new I want to run (Wavelab 7) only works with 10.6. I usually never update my OS unless I'm forced into it, I'm way not an OS early adopter, I have work to do! I was truly expecting 10.6.5 to be OK, they've had plenty of time to get the kinks worked out. I wasn't expecting Apple to introduce new ones. Sounds like I'm not bothering with 10.6.6 now. 10.6.7 anyone? Do I hear .8?
    Way to go Apple.

  • How to print directly to printer using USB and Bluetooth from Java (J2ME) app.

I write mobile phone apps in Java (J2ME). I want to print directly to a printer via USB and via Bluetooth. I cannot use a print job with the Java available to me. Once upon a time you could just send text and print control characters to a printer. I would like to be able to do that again. Alternatively could you provide a 'skeleton' data stream into which I could insert my code to produce what is sent to the printer when a print job is used with Java on a laptop or PC. I just want to sent simple text with a little formatting.

    Hi,
As far as printing to devices not all devices support Bluetooth. Many devices support Bonjour protocal, IPP. The main print port is 9100. Additionally you can see what IO protocols are supported on a product by looking at the EWS (Embedded WebServer) there should be a networking page with that information.  Port 9100 is your basic print port and different devices will support different formats (PDF, JPEG, PCL5, PCL6). If there is an API you can find (i am not familiar with J2ME availible calls, then you can use those and send the data to port 9100. Again that is the basic path most printers will accept. not all devices support bonjour not all device support bluetooth etc... Hope that helps and good luck.

  • My iphone no longer provides a functional personal hotspot via usb or bluetooth, how do I fix this?

I am currently running a 3gs (never jailbroken or unlocked) with ios 5.1.1. The computer I am connecting it to is a Macbook Pro Early 2011 15". I am in Canada with Rogers as a telecommunication provider. I do have plenty of data and have used this feature in previous months (although very very rarely).
I have heard there might be a bug with 5.1.1 however I haven't heard of anything substancial to verify these claims.
I have tried the usual steps. Turning off wifi on both, plugging in the iphone (or turning on bluetooth), I have a connection or at least the iphone shows a connection and flashes blue on top. But my computer has no traffic at all. It says it has a connection and IP but nothing else. No other features are open nor am I savvy enough to manually enter other settings other than the automatic ones.
Can anyone else provide some help? I have searched the forums but nothing on other threads have worked or is overly recent/applicable (ie. iPad problems). Can anyone out there in the community provide some assistance or tips to try and solve this problem?
If I have to wait until io6 I will but I am heading back to school soon and would love to have wifi for the commute.
No jailbreak or paid applications please.

A quick update with my situation. I went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and the girl I talked with had worked with Rogers and knew that it was probably a problem with my service provider rather than the iphone itself.
I checked with Rogers and it was (Ya Genius Bar, Boo Rogers) Anyways, I had to change my plan to accomadate data sharing (which I actualluy saved money on - due to a very old phone "Staff" plan.
So now I can get my bluetooth networking just fine, but I still have problems with usb. It now is not even noticing it is connected in network options while still being plugged in and detected with iTunes.
Still looking for help with my USB tethering. But glad I got my tethering working somehow in order to pair with my upcoming purchase of an iPad (YAY)

  • Anyone knows what do do when iMac doesn't recognize any USB or Bluetooth?

    Hello,
if anyone can help, please. my iMac does not recognize anything I plug into the USB ports in the back. I can't use any keyboard or mouse or track pad. It does not recognize any bluetooth such as magic mouse, wireless keyboard or track pad. When I plug in an older keyboard or mouse it does not see it at all either. don't know what to do. Can't do anything on the computer, which otherwise seems to be working fine, except everything I was using is frozen on the desktop. any advise?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • Usb, firewire, bluetooth all do not work

I downloaded the most recent update for my OS X tiger software, and ever since the download my bluetooth mouse won't pair with the computer, I can't use my usb jump drive, my ipod is not recognized, and I can't download .dmg files because after they are done it gets stuck at "preparing disk image." Any ideas as to what the problem is or what I can do? Everything worked fine before this update.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
If you used the software update function, sometimes the updates just don't do everything they are supposed to. You didn't say what release of Tiger you upgraded to, however assuming it's the latest, if you download the combo update and apply that, it may set things back to working order. It's located here.
Before downloading that, I would reset the power management unit (PMU) following these directions.
