USB Webcam MSI StarCam Clip & Skype

I've just tested a MSI StarCam Clip Webcam on a G4 Mac Mini 1.25Ghz running Mac OS X 10.4.8. Cannot use the webcam's built in mic & video together because a loud ringing noise is produced. I have a usb mic and use that for sound input and the webcam only for video.
Supplied Webcam Monitor App & Quicktime:
Used the webcam monitor app that came with the driver to set the webcam resolution to 640x480. The picture is good (almost MacBook iSight quality) but the picture tears up quite a bit.
Skype:
Picture is good (confirmed with sister running Skype on a MacBook) and there is no tearing. Skype developers have probably developed their own code for video.
iChat:
Webcam is not recognised.

PizzaCake-
Sorry for being a little denser this morning than usual. I sense that perhaps you are attempting to provide information, but since this is a help forum I am just trying to make absolutely sure.
Do you need to fix the loud ringing noise? Is there another issue with getting the rig to work that you would like for us to contemplate?

  • MSI StarCam Clip II focus problem

    Hello,
I just received MSI StarCam Clip II and after installation there is a problem with autofocus.
After even tiny movement of object in focus the camera is trying to auto focus again, but it takes few seconds.
Problem is that the movement can be very very small almost like eye blink, but the camera is trying to focus like it was turned from shortest focus to infinite then it stays there for a second and after another small movement of the object it focuses again to correct focus.
    Object is face or person.
Should I go to vendor for replacement or can I change some settings?
    Thank you
    Regards
    Petr

It's probably having trouble focusing because of insufficient light.  Try to increase the amount of light in the area, especially light falling directly on your face.

  • MSI StarCam Clip - signed driver for Windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 x64 I lost my webcam.
I tried install unsigned driver and camera worked for a while* (search for windows 8 install unsigned driver, I can't put one stupid link to post).
But after few days / restarts Windows decides to disable driver again.
Please can MSI release signed drivers for Windows 7 (32bit/64bit) and Windows 8?

  • MSI StarCam Clip blur image

I'm using Star Cam Clip almost a year, and yesterday when I start Skype video chat, my image became blur. I can see anything sharp. What could be the problem?

Is there a focus control on the camera you can adjust?
    No.

  • Problems with Starcam clip driver not being recognised / working.

    Hi
I have recently purchased a starcam clip as my wife kept nicking my web cam to skype her sister.
I installed as per the instructions and it did not work so I de-installed and then went to the MSI web and got the latest driver for XP. This then works ok until i either unplugged the camera or shut down. I then have to re-install each time i want to use the camera >:(. If i have the camera plugged into the same usb as the last install then the computer (Acer travelmate ) shows the camera installed and plugged in but wont actually work unless I re-install . any suggestions?

Hi I have now made some progress. If I run the setup.exe as downloaded from the MSI web site the camera works as I would expect. (colour washout aside - but the thread on the 370i cam has explained this)
(1)The next time I start my computer the camera is recognised but Amcap has the error message of "This graph cannot preview" . The camera is listed in my computer but if I select the camera I get "creation of video preview failed - Check connection and check it is not being used by another application".
I can get the camera to work by running the setup.exe file again but this is a drag.
(2)If I swap to another  USB port then I get the "found new hardware" icon and the new hardware wizard starts.
(3)If I start up with the camera unplugged and plug into the port on which the camera was in on the initial installation then I get the same result as (1).
Anyone any suggestions - I do not believe it is a hardware (camera) problem as it does work when initially installed.

  • StarCam Clip - Just some slight assistance.

    Hi guys,
I just received my first webcam today, the StarCam clip: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodpage2&maincat_no=132&cat2_no=262. Ive installed the drivers and the software correctly and all is working well. The resolution and quality is as I expected, all very good for a low priced webcam. However I just have a few queries:
    1. The blue colours that show up are ALL alot lighter than they should be. Ive tried getting the colours by messing around with the config, just blindly moving the scroll bars on the options randomly until I get it to something that look natural. However I dont really know what I am doing, I would just like to get the picture/colour quality as real as possible. Any advice?
    2. When using on MSN the cam freezes, sometimes for 5 seconds, sometimes for 2 minutes. (Any explanation for this).
But to be fair and really happy with it, but would like to get the colour and freezing thing sorted.
    Thanks very much.

Please read the sticky topic up top, 'Starcam 370i low quality colour', I think the Starcam Mini, also infrared sensitive, suffers the same problems

  • USB WebCam record in iMovie

I have VideoCam connected via FireWire to iMovie to import clips. When I turn the camera off, from VTR mode, the USB WebCam gets activated and there comes option "Record With Camera".
Same happends naturally when I turn the firewire camera to "camera".
But without first connecting the DVcam via firewire I cannot connect the USB Logitech Skype WebCam to iMovie.
Is there anything that could be done to make iMovie to find the webcam without first connecting the firewire device?

So it seems that if I want to use iMovie + WebCam combination it got to be done via connect other camera first trick.

    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.

  • Using a USB Webcam on Tiger 10.4.11

I have an iMac G4/800 running Tiger 10.4.11. I know that a Firewire iSight webcam is necessary to function in Tiger but I am musing as to whether there is some sort of "fix" that will allow me to use my Intel Pro PC USB webcam (a pc webcam of equal quality) in lieu of the iSight webcam. Even the used prices for the iSight webcams is "nuts". Thanks, Ken.

Apple’s 10.4.9 update introduced a really cool feature. It allows you to use a USB webcam for iChat. Be warned though, not all USB webcams will work. We’ve started ordering the ones that do, so here’s a list of the USB webcams we’ll carry and will work with the new update.

  • StarCam Clip Driver

I have just bought a StarCam Clip and it just fails to work with the supplied driver-for Windows98SE. I tried the latest driver on the MSI website and that too does not work. In desperation I tried it with the StarCam 370i driver and HEY PRESTO!-THE THING FINALLY WORKS.
You guys at MSI need to sort out this fiasco! The latest driver for the StarClip is described as having Amcap 8.12 but in fact has version 8.10. The 370i driver has version 8.11. I haven't checked the other components like DLLs but I suspect that there is more wrong elsewhere-I still can't record audio and there is no video compression.

That's a 10 year old OS, come on......hardly anybody supports that anymore.
And I seriously doubt MSI will fix it, as just a few users still use Win98.

  • Using usb webcam with facetime

I have a generic USB Webcam 720p connected to a USB port on my Mac Mini (2012 version) running 10.8.2. Tried using webcam on facetime, my HD monitor doesn't have webcam, for the first time. When opening FT the image from webcam displayed in the window, but when FT started connecting window went brown and hung up after a minute or 2. There were no drivers for Mac OS, but listed Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, with plug & play.
Any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I don't have the same Mac and camera as you, so I cannot test this, but it may be worth a try:
Use technique from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 about letting Photo Booth use a Firewire external  iSight:
    • Connect your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam and turn it on.
    • Quit Safari if it is running.
    • Launch iChat.
    • Open iChat's Video "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use your built-in iSight. You need not log in for video chat, but be sure your iSight video preview shows in the video Preferences pane.
    • Now, with your built-in camera in use by iSight, launch Safari and test whether your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam shows in the settings dialog box.
If you still have trouble and have not already tried restarting your Mac, modem, and (if you have one) router, see if that helps.
