USB WebCam record in iMovie

I have VideoCam connected via FireWire to iMovie to import clips. When I turn the camera off, from VTR mode, the USB WebCam gets activated and there comes option "Record With Camera".
Same happends naturally when I turn the firewire camera to "camera".
But without first connecting the DVcam via firewire I cannot connect the USB Logitech Skype WebCam to iMovie.
Is there anything that could be done to make iMovie to find the webcam without first connecting the firewire device?

So it seems that if I want to use iMovie + WebCam combination it got to be done via connect other camera first trick.

  • Can you record video usb webcam

Can you record video using final cut pro from a usb webcam? you can do that with quicktime. Can you do that with final cut pro? i tried import video from camera but it only shows isight camera that is built in the macbook.

You can record live video from the built-in iSight camera that is standard in most macs (in fact, all but the Mac Pro and Mini). From other cameras, I doubt it. Of course, you can record with Quicktime Player and use the recorded video inside FCP X. But beware, many webcams have very low quality, low frame rate and size, so don't expect to get great video.

  • Record Video won't use USB Webcam

    Hello,
    I am using Adobe Presenter 9/PowerPoint 2013 (32 bit) on a Windows 7 machine.
I am trying to use the Record Video function of Presenter, however, I can't seen to use an external USB webcam.
    Steps.
    1. I click Settings
    2, I choose USB 2.0 PC Cam
    3. I click OK
    4. I get a message on the recording screen that the camera is turned off
(I attempt to click the picture of the camera to turn it on, nothing happens)
    5. I go back into settings and the Selected camera is reset to None.
I know the camera works as I can use it in other applications.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hello Suzanne,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have SP1 installed for Windows 7?
Is that a laptop or Desktop ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your USB Webcam ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your computer ?
Make sure you have Presenter 9.0.2 update installed. (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5690)

  • About USB webcam and sound record

    Hello,
Can I program the Labview using USB Webcam to take record and record sound  in the same time??
Do any one have this type of experience??
Would you mind tell me how to build the structure to Program the software??
    Any other essential software need??
    Thank you!!
    I  will use LV7.1.

    Hi HeartShield,
You should be able to acquire sound and video at the same time.  You can use the sound VIs in LabVIEW to acquire sound from the microphone.  There are a few options for the video.  You could use the NI Vision Development Module to view the video in LabVIEW.  Alternatively, you can use .NET or ActiveX if your webcam software is compatible.

  • Using an external microphone when recording in iMovie?

I've been trying to find a way to use my external USB microphone (MXL 990 USB) when recording a movie into iMovie when in the Camera Import window. I have the option to use it when I go under the Voiceover menu, but I can't find anything in iMovie or System Preferences that lets me record from it (even when I change the Input in System Preferences to the USB mic) for regular movies. It always uses the built-in mic no matter what I try. How can I use the external mic??
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    -Ryan

    Ryan--
I've been having the same issue with the same USB mic and I got it to work today. Here's what did the trick:
In previous tries, I had been using the "front" USB port (of the two USB ports on the left side of my machine) on my MacBook unibody with OS X 10.6.1.
I simply tried switching the MXL 990 USB mic to the "back" USB port and the mic now works when I capture video in iMovie from my built-in camera and the MXL 990 mic.
Of course I already made the adjustments (as you have) in System Prefs to the USB Mic---there is recognizes the MXL 990 USB.
I hope this also works for you.
    Sincerely,
    Joe

  • USB webcam microphone not working with Starcraft 2 voice chat

=USB webcam microphone not working with Starcraft 2 voice chat?Windows 7, X-fi Fatalty Pro
I have a webcam with ?a built in microphone (Ps3 eye). ?It is connected by USB. ?The drivers are the CL-Eye drivers; a third party driver set since Sony does not directly support the eye for PC.
in the windows audio device management, the microphone appears as normal and is set as the default device. ?I can use the windows sound recorder to record me speaking just fine. ?However if I use any other applications it doesn't seem to work at all. ?I can select the device as the default recording device in Starcraft 2 as well as Teamspeak 3 but no sound is detected. ?The USB microphone does not show up as a selectable device in recording options in my Creative Control Panel. ?Disabling the default creative microphone does nothing.
I think the problem is in that windows can directly detect the microphone and so software that uses the windows audio device manager works fine, but anything that talks directly with my sound card software does not properly detect the microphone. ?Basically, I can select the device as a default device but it does not work.
Any thoughts on this or am I SOL and have to find myself a shiny new headset?

I had the same problem. You need to check the device index of your USB mic.
In my case. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.6 system. I had four devices cataloged. With the last one being the USB mic.
    Then set like so in your AS code audioPub.microphoneManager.micIndex = 3;
Remember, that the indexing is 0 based.
The sound framework make the assumption that the index is 0.
    Hope that helps.

  • Capturing video using usb webcam in QTPRO

I have a duo core mac mini and QTPRO 7. I am preparing a lecture for teachers to record their demonstrations and lectures and then play them back to students. I am trying to use QTPRO and usb webcam to keep cost down for teachers. I have installed Maccam 8.8 and can recognize and choose usb camera in QTPro. I can even change compression and setting and capture video and audio. The problem comes when I stop the recording in QTPro. The newly created movie opens and then....the spinning ball of death starts to spin and never quits. I try to force quit QT (which isn't responding) but it won't quit. I have to shut down my mini and restart. At which point the movie created can be openned and played and everything is fine, until I try to capture another movie. It works but this is combersome. This is really inconsiderate of Mac, to make it so you can only use firewire cameras, of which I think only the isight is left. Used to be you could plug almost anything into a Mac and it worked. That was something that Made them great. Now well, lets limit the buyers. This problem also occurs on my MacBook Pro.
duo core mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you can afford it, use an iSight camera ( much better quality than most webcams, and AF as well) and Quicktime Broadcaster ( free) to record the video.
If you search you will find a few articles on how to use QTB to record to your HDD. Very good quality in good light.

  • USB webcam has slow fps

My firewire socket has failed and I can't afford a new logic board, so I've bought myself a new usb webcam to take the place of my trusty isight. I've got a Logitech quickcam pro 9000. My problem is that I can't get anwhere near the 30 fps it should be providing; usually I don't get more than 5-6 fps. The odd thing is that occasionally I get 15 fps, but i can't replicate it. This is in QT pro and also in ichat using conference recorder to make movies with. Macam doesn't work with the 9000 pro. Do I need to upgrade to Leopard? I tried upgrading to 10.4.9, but software updater won't let me.

I'm using the same camera on my MacPro, and found that with the current built-in support for USB video class this will not get better.
There are several things to consider:
    1) In low light (and with the "generic" USB video class drivers on MacOS X), the camera will "slow down" its fps rate to collect more light and reduce noise.
    2) In Quicktime Pro, recording in "camera native" will invariably result in a 1600x1200 JPEG-compressed movie at 5 fps.
    3) In Quicktime Pro, the best frame rate i got out of it was approx. 10-12 fps, but the recorded movie itself has 30 fps, i.e. it's padded by repeating one frame 2-3 times. Granted, this compresses rather well since nothing's changing between those duplicated frames, but it feels like cheating.
    4) Using Apple's own USB Prober tool (comes with the developer tools), one can "see" all the data channels the camera offers to the computer (in the ballpark of 20 data streams the computer could request, ranging from 320x240 to 960x720, each with several frame rates to pick from, and in MotionJPEG or uncompressed). There's just no way (yet?) to pick one.
I'd suggest using Apple's feedback web form (i did yesterday, filed it in "Quicktime -> Feature requests). While i'm happy the camera works "out of the box", i'd be even more happy if it did record smooth 30fps video as well. Not that it matters much for videophoning, since that's compressed to death anyway, but to see it's all already there, with just a "pick input format" selector missing...

  • Using usb webcam with facetime

I have a generic USB Webcam 720p connected to a USB port on my Mac Mini (2012 version) running 10.8.2. Tried using webcam on facetime, my HD monitor doesn't have webcam, for the first time. When opening FT the image from webcam displayed in the window, but when FT started connecting window went brown and hung up after a minute or 2. There were no drivers for Mac OS, but listed Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, with plug & play.
Any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I don't have the same Mac and camera as you, so I cannot test this, but it may be worth a try:
Use technique from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 about letting Photo Booth use a Firewire external  iSight:
    • Connect your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam and turn it on.
    • Quit Safari if it is running.
    • Launch iChat.
    • Open iChat's Video "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use your built-in iSight. You need not log in for video chat, but be sure your iSight video preview shows in the video Preferences pane.
    • Now, with your built-in camera in use by iSight, launch Safari and test whether your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam shows in the settings dialog box.
If you still have trouble and have not already tried restarting your Mac, modem, and (if you have one) router, see if that helps.

  • Low resolution webcam recording on linux

    Hi,
Webcam recording on 3 different ubuntu 10.4 pc. Will only show a low resolution view and recording. We have this problem with a self developed flash application. On mac and widows it works fine. The same problem as exist in the youtube webcam recorder (http://www.youtube.com/my_webcam)
We tested it with different 10.3.* flash players.

I think these two bugs relate to the same problem. But the are closed. There are some people still complaining the issue isn't fixed. As I have experienced.
    Thanks

    Hi Marcel,
This bug (our internal number is 2589240) has been deferred for the initial release of Flash Player 11 but will be considered for future versions.  I've personally brought this up to our management team and I know that others are aware of it.  Since Jira is no longer used for Flash Player, and the bugs are closed, would you mind opening a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Once opened, I'd like to encourage everyone effected by this issue to vote and comment in the bug.  We use these votes to help determine priority for bug fixes in future builds.
    Thanks,

  • Capturing data from usb webcam

I'm interested in the acquisition of footage from a usb webcam into labVIEW. I have the professional development system and downloaded NI-IMAQ which I believe i'll need from reading online material.
I don't really know where to start to link the camera with labview so any material would be a great help...
Final question, is it a big undertaking acquiring data from a video camera in labVIEW? it's just i've limited time to work on a project and want to know if it's worthwhile undertaking or if it will be very time heavy. I've a few months labVIEW development experience if that would give an indication to anyone...
    Strokes

    Hi,
First your USB Cam needs to be DirectShow Compliant.
Then you will need NI-IMAQdx from the Vision Acquisition Software 2009 (supports LV 8.2 and higher) or higher to acquire images from USB cameras. The NI IMAQ driver is to capture images from framegrabbers, and the NI SmartCamera, not for USB. There is also a own IMAQ USB Library for the Vision Acquisition 8.6 but since you need to buy the Acquisition Software I would recommend to use 2009 or higher where we added the DirectShow Support to IMAQdx.
The Vision Acquisition Software is just for image acquisition and processing. If you want to do image processing you will need the Vision Development Module.
And when doing a search at ni.com you should find some articles, examples and tutorials too.
I can't estimate how much time you will need get that running, but you could just try to run one of the examples for IMAQdx in LabVIEW and then see how it works.

  • Can I put a DVD+R/W Recording into iMovie.. then back to DVD?

    Hi all,
New to Macs and must admit I'm asking this question without really trawling through the help manuals at all... but...
If I make a recording to a DVD+R/W from my home DVD player, can I then import that recording to iMovie, edit it it and send it back to iDVD to re-burn it? My Phillips DVD Recorder makes a decent fist of editing a recording but obviously iMovie and iDVD offer greater creativity and flexibility...
Any help or advice would be appreciated... cheers!!
