USB - why does the MacBook react when in Sleep?

Why does the computer react to when something is inserted into the USB while in Sleep mode, when the lid is closed???
I'm simply reminding myself to put it back in, and have no intention of using the computer at that very moment, the lid is closed and I probably won't be using it for a little while.
So why does it do that? Why doesn't it stay asleep and then react to it when it is back on? Seems like a waste of power to me.

This is just the way it is. The computer doesn't read your intent so it sees something occur and has to try to wake up and allow the process to connect that device correctly. If it did not do this and you woke the computer after adding something that wasn't there before it could cause a problem. The computer wakes up expecting to see one thing and it's not there something else is in it's place. This could cause kernal panic.

Why does the MacBook Retina 15" do software scaling to the native resolution of 2880x1800?

OS X does not allow changing the viewport resolution to the native 2880x1800, and it suggests 1440x900 as a retina optimized one. This means that software scaling is done on the fly. My question is, why?
I have two suspicions:
1. Running everything at the native resolution puts a bigger strain on the GPU, hence slowing down the OS, putting down battery time.
2. The number of apps using retina-ready sprites is miniscule, hence Apple does not want to mess with the user experience. Although I doubt it, as software post-processing is done even now, and apps with non-retina sprites look slightly blurred. If the native resolution would have been used, they would just look a bit more blurry.
Just some comments:
1. Switching to the native resolution will make everything smaller, up to the point of not being usable. But this is a non-argument, as the OS could be smart enough to use bigger versions of the sprites/icons/text. Apple already demands that developers use hi-res sprites (OS X Human Interface Guidelines), hence everything could be scaled x2 and it would be the same size at 2880x1800, as it is at 1440x900 in the current version of the OS.
2. Technically it is possible, as outlined here: Running the Retina MacBook Pro at Full 2880x1800 Resolution. Have a look at the comments too, there are some interesting observations in line with this question, but no definite answers.
3. I am aware that the OS X Cocoa server is running at native resolution at all times. This question is concerned with the viewport resolution, which requires hacks to be set to the native one.

With "Do Not Disturb" active, why does the iPhone beep when plug in for recharge?
I usually go to bed after my wife. I have the Do Not Disturb set for 11 pm to 7 am, and I can see the moon symbol.
So why when I go to bed at midnight and plug in my iPhone to recharge do I get a LOUD BEEP?
My wife is banning my phone from being next to my bed and an alarm clock.
To me it seems that the "Do Not Disturb" should turn this beep into a vibrate.

If I am reading what you are saying correctly, you are saying that when vibrate is 'off', and you turn on the phone and plug it in that a vibration occurs, and that it is not respecting the vibrate 'off'.
That would be a slightly different issue from what I am asking about (Do Not Disturb), and would probably need a separate bug report.

The 8GB is not hard drive memory. It is chip memory just for multi-tasking purposes, and it can be custom configured to 16 GB of multi-tasking memory. If you wanted to store applications or data files on it, you can create a RAM disk, but it actually would be copying the information off the SSD. There is no "permanent" storage of data on the 8GB or 16GB of RAM.
There is no platter hard drive anymore.
The 128 GB is the SSD memory on the 13" model by default, and can be custom configured to 512GB of SSD memory.
The odd thing is your SSD can do swap file storage for multitasking, but also doubles as your place to store actual data files.
For awhile Apple mixed both platter and SSD. Looks like that is no longer the case at least with the 13" Retina.
SSD memory is comparable to hard drive memory in that it is more "permanent" storage after reboot. Calling it permanent is a misnomer though, since hard drives and SSDs can both fail without any warning, and a backup is always recommended:

Here's the scenario I'm referring to: my iphone is in my pocket with the screen locked and headphones plugged in. I toggle the mic switch and use voice control to place a phone call. On every other iphone I have owned, the screen stays locked. On the 5S, the screen unlocks when the call begins, making the end call button or other phone buttons able to be activated accidentally by my leg.
Why did they change this feature on the 5S? The iphone 5 stays locked in the same scenario. Just updated to 7.0.4 and it still hasn't been fixed. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Why does the format change when i share a presentation?

I develop a presentation in Keynote in my Imac. I then place it in a flash drive and pass the presentation to my MacBook. When I open it, all the fonts are changes, it has added bullets, the sizes have changes and many of the pictures are gone. I have the same fonts installed in both computers. How can I stop this?

Why does the colours change when I import a video?

When I play my fresh footage in quicktime the colours look fine, as soon as I add the footage to final cut the colouring goes all odd. It has a Red tinge to it and the blues look as if they have turned to a sort of purple? They look like this in 'All Clips' and the previewer, yet when I look at the timeline the colours look ok.
I've also made 'All' is selected on the channels so it isn't that. Is there a way I can do a mass reset on Final cut to put it right? Does this on all videos I import and events I create!

Why does the terminal open when I try to install an application?

I just installed a software update, and I cannot install any applications without the bash Terminal opening up. I don't know what it does or how it works. Prior to the the OS X update, this issue never occurred, when I downloaded an application - it installed automatically. I would like things to install automatically since I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to code or bash or whatever. PLEASE HELP!

Why does the gradient disappear when I export my document to PDF?

I have used gradient tool on simple black lines to make them fade out as they reach the edge of the document. When I export the document to PDF the lines are simply black, no gradient whatsoever. I'm a beginner at this. I'm putting together something for a wedding, and really need to fix this pronto! HELP!

Version of InDesign? OS? Print or Export to PDF and settings used?
What sort of gradient did you apply? Some screen shots of the line in ID and the PDF would help.

Why does the font change when I combine files?

I am trying to combine PDF files into one document using the "combine files" tool online.
The new file that is created changes some of the fonts to different fonts (I think it is having difficulty with times new roman in particular). I need to keep the original fonts when I combine the files, how can I stop it from changing the fonts?

My Macbook Pro with a 2.5 GHz intel core i5 and 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory, just goes to sleep randomnly for no reason at all, i was just doing some work when my macbook just suddenly goes to sleep, there is no magnets around, only the ethernet cable is plugged in, the charger and a wireless mouse usb, even when im other places with nothing attached to the computer it goes to sleep, no magnets are around it. Why does my macbook pro go to sleep when i move it?

I'll be sitting a my desk and decide to slightly move my macbook pro so its facing me a little better and it will go to sleep.
I have a MacBook Pro (retina display) 13-inch, which I bought in February 2014.
It happened both when I had it connected to power and when it was running just off battery.
I was watching youtube videos at the time, and now that I've stopped the problem has gone away.
What would youtube have to do with my macbook going to sleep?
And now I've gone back into youtube and its not doing it anymore, so confused?
