Unfortunately, you received incorrect information. The USB port on the Time Capsule will only support a printer and/or hard drive. Modems are not supported.

My father's been pushing me to find a more budget friendly alternative to our current internet situation. We're connected with a DSL modem, it's not wireless.
He's been asking me about the usb wireless internet cards that he's seen on TV, like the ones that AT&T promote in their "find the internet everywhere" commercials.
Now, I'm finding that the service for these cards is more expensive then what we're paying now, so we probably won't be purchasing this sort of service any time soon, but I am confused as to what exactly it is.
I'm assuming that if I had one of these cards that I could get rid of the box that's connected to the wall (the modem that I connect my computer to to get the internet). But as I'm researching this I'm finding that there are "wireless internet cards" cards that allow older computers to connect to wireless modems (something that my computer can do... that most new computers can do). I would think that these wireless internet cards are different from the wireless internet devices that I'm looking for. (but maybe they're not?) I'm really confused.
If anyone could shed some light on these cards I'd be grateful Thank you!

This seems to be designed for business customers. I couldn't find anything suggesting that this is made available to the regular consumer market.

There is no way to use sucjh a device if it requires a USB commection to the iPod. However, one can purchase a MiFi (als available from different providers under different names) that acts as a wifi hotspot and connects to the internet via a cellular connection.

How and where do I install a wireless internet card in G3 PowerBook?

Really? The AASP I went to services both Macs and iPhones (and was actually within that list,) and I was very surprised earlier that they refused to help me with repairing my iPhone 5, even if I voluntarily and expressly said that I am willing to pay for the cost. The service provider said he can't help me with anything and advised that I have it shipped to Singapore (and since that is very difficult for me now, I came here instead to ask for advice).

Wireless internet card for powerbook 1400

Can anyone recommend a wireless PC card for the Powerbook 1400? (I know...an anchient machine but I want to throw it in the kitchen for looking up recipes and other light futy stuff.) I think it needs to be a PCMCIA card or something like that. Thanks.

You can run an 802.11b 11Mbps PC card on the 1400 with the correct wireless drivers and this is dependent on which version OS you have installed on the 1400. The card you want is the WaveLAN or Orinoco wireless PC card. And if your 1400 were running OS 9.1, you could use Apple's AirPort 1.2 software.

Cant install wireless internet card

I purchased a 15" mac book pro last week. For internet, i use a Huawei data card EC 168 C, which works fine on my windows laptop. But the app file wont install on the mac.
Is there any other app file i can use for installing.. or any other tip??

Have you contacted your wireless provider to see if they have a modem script for Mac OS X? Have you checked the Huawei data card EC 168 C forums to see if anyone else has had a similar issue and/or resolution? Have you done any google searching?

Wireless Internet Connection Speed (WRT54GS)

Have three computers. One with a hard line and the other two wireless. One of the wireless has a WVSB54GS USB Network adapter w/ Speed Booster. Well I have no clue what the problem is. My brother use to manage our internet system and he has gone off to college leaving me w/ this mess. My computer has a wireless internet card and the speed use to always be at 120 Mbps, now though it rebounds back and forth and lately it keeps at 48.0 Mbps and sometimes it just all out fails to 1.0 Mbps. The other computer w/ the USB adapter has always had a crappy speed of about 54.0 Mbps and I would really like to fix this.
Any ideas what happened to degrade my speed so much? Could I have accidentally screwed something up when I was messing w/ it previously? The one w/ the USB adapter consistently looses it's access point or when it has it cannot find the internet yet the other two don't have any problems. So I have to reset my modem/router/computer a lot till it finds it again.

There are many causes for poor wireless connections. And there are many cures:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.

Basic CD-ROM drive to combo drive/wireless internet

I have a 12-inch iBook G4 with a basic CD-ROM drive - but I want a combo drive so that I can play DVDs on my computer. Does anyone know how I can get this done and about how much it costs??
I'm also looking to find a wireless internet card for the same computer - any suggestions??

That was only a superdrive. If you are looking for an internal combo only you may want to look at otherworld computing:

Another option is an external. This works for me for playback w/ the Apple player. If you find a cheap one and have issues look to vlc. Bus power is a major plus here.
If I were you I would consider looking into an external bus powered burner, as this will be portable to any other machines or future ones.

Unfortunately, many of these products are specific down to the last tiny letter on the outside of the box. Some are mystery products where the actual device inside the box may or may not work. As far as I know, none of these are directly supported by Apple and that, to me, is a serious drawback.

MacBook Pro (Wireless Internet) - ethernet - Windows XP (no wireless) ?

I have MacBook Pro with wireless internet that works just dandy.
I also have a cheap IBM ThinkPad running Windows XP. It's from the stone age, so it has no wireless internet card.
Ethernet cable successfully connects the two, and I can transfer files back and forth using smb://, no problem.
But I really want is to be able to get internet on Windows using connection from my MacBook Pro.
Is this possible? Can I do it in system preferences somewhere, or would I have to go buy a router or something?
EDIT: I'm a Web Developer, so I just want to be able to connect to see how HTML files look on IE. If there is a way to setup a localhost and plug IP into Windows XP, that'd be a good enough solution.

You'll need to clarify what you're looking for. Do you need an actual phone-line modem? There are boxes you can connect to wirelessly and then dial out, but they're not as popular as they used to be. Likewise, are you looking for a phone line modem for the MacBook? Apple has one they officially support -- I think it's actually made by US Robotics.
What do you mean by "efficient"? Lowest power consumption? Best speed? Least heat?
If you're looking for what the cable and DSL providers call a "modem", nobody can recommend one until they know what you plan to connect it to. Most of them are actually routers or bridges, and not real modems (modulator-demodulator).

Update/Restore Problem Related to USB Wireless Cards

Went through a lengthy trouble-shooting problem with apple a few months ago and can't find my notes.
Basic problem was this: Had my iphone 3g synced with my work laptop (Dell), which I used an AT&T wireless USB Internet card with. When I installed that USB connect program, it switched a certain setting that caused my iphone to freeze up during new software updates.
Longer story short, I recently used the same USB card on my wife's PC laptop and am afraid she is going to have same problem when she updates her 3g. Can't find my notes from when I fixed this before.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I reviewed the article, thanks, but it did not shed additional light on the blurring problem. I believe I have successfully installed the new Firmware as it fixed the dark screen and strange color problem.
The computer is a slot loading 400 mhz PowerPC G3 iMac.
It is currently running 9.2.1 (the blurring problem exists on this, 9.1, and OSX)
The only other thing I can think of is that I did the original installation of OSX during a thunderstorm, which may be an explaination of the blurring problem (things are never quite that simple).

Can't connect to wireless internet with my airport extreme card.

hello, i need some help connecting to our wireless router. i do not have an airport base station, i am trying to connect to a third-party, secure wireless network. anyway, i've called apple, i've called linksys (the router company), and i am still using hardwire connected to the router. whenever i click the airport icon on the top taskbar, no networks show up. i have had my pc laptop in the same room as my iMac G5, and the laptop can autmatically connect to the network, but my iMac cannot. i am running out of options. i connect with a secure, wireless internet. its wep, whatever that means, and i've tried my user name and passcode numerous times, but to no avail. what do i do????

thanks for your help, but sadly this did not work. even when i click the wireless airport icon on the top taskbar, no networks show up on the pull down menu. the only option i have is 'other.' shouldn't my secured network at least show up in the pull down menu, to which i provide the password?
is there any way to get this extreme card to work? has anyone else had this same problem with their iMac G5? this is ridiculous, thanks.
