USB Wireless Network Adaptor for fringe reception

My holiday unit is just on the fringe of a Wireless G service. I can get connected outside - but not inside. The ISP advised that a wireless bridge will not work - but an external network adaptor with 1.5 - 2 metres of cable should do the trick. They suggested the Linksys WUSB54G. (http://www.linksysbycisco.com/ANZ/en/products/WUSB54G) Unfortunately this is a Windows only device.
Can anyone recommend an alternative that will work with OS X?

Google "Wireless-G USB Network Adapter for Macintosh".

Unplug the USB cable from the printer.  Plug your printer into your wireless router with an Ethernet cable.
Next, on each computer, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.  Install it and select "Network" installation when it asks.

  • Airport or Macsense Aerolite 54G USB Wireless Client Adaptor?

I gave my iMac G5 which is now 4 years old - to my daughter. It does not have iSight/ Bluetooth and Airport were optional at the time and although I did get Bluetooth I didn't get Airport. i am wondering if I can now add Airport to it and what I would need to buy. I m not sure about the different types of Airport. Can anyone give me advice?
I have spotted what looks like a super device that might do the trick and allow her to be wireless without having an Airport card - what do you think of this device? Good or what!? Would it work?

You simply need to buy and install an AirPort Extreme card. Apple still makes and sells these cards. Once the card is installed, the iMac G5 will be able to connect to any 802.11b/g compatible wireless networks.
The best solution is the AirPort Extreme card.

  • Wireless network adaptor installation on Satellite Pro L20

    Hi there,
I have just bought a Satellite Pro L20 but it had been rebooted before I received it and the previous owner obviously didnt have the Toshiba drivers disk. Can anyone please give me a link to get the installation file for the wireless network adaptor card. I have been into device manager - network adaptors and the wireless adaptor isnt listed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello
All stuff you need you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Support Homepage > Download drivers.
There you can find WLAN drivers for Intel and Atheros WLAN card. Before installation check which one you have.

  • Wireless network adaptor not working

My wireless network stopped working, and the wireless network adaptor is not showing in the device manger.  The keyboard indicator indicated wifi disabled (f12).  Pushing then button does nothing. It was working fine earlier in the day.  The only change made was an adjustment to text size which required a restart to take affect.  The wireless adaptor did not work on the restart. Not sure what to try next to get it working again. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

With two routers you'd have to put one of them into bridge mode. If the linksys is the second router then change its IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
You'll still have WPA issues with this configuration because the linksys really is not setup to handle bridge mode very well.

  • Arris CM820 - Change Wireless Network Name for Arris CM820

Hi-How do I change the wireless network name for Arris CM820? The support page lists many other kinds of modems but not this one. Thanks. Hardware: Mac OSX 10.9.95

The AirPort Express is exactly what you need, but when you attach it to a cable modem, you need to power cycle the modem to pickup the MAC address of the new device.
I suggest you do a full reset of the AirPort by pressing the reset button on it for over 30 seconds, power down the modem, connect the modem to the AirPort, then power up everything, then use the AirPort utility to configure the AirPort and your wi-fi settings from scratch.  If everything's good, then the LED on the AirPort will be green and you will have connectivity.
One warning, if you have 105 service from Comcast, the Express will limit your speeds to 90 or so as it has a 10/100 WAN / LAN ports.  For 105 speeds and higher you would need a AirPort Extreme.

  • Wireless USB Network Adaptor for Mac OS X 10.8

I'm sure this has been asked before and I'm sorry in advance if it has, I looked and didn't see anything.
I'm running VMware Fusion with Backtrack Linux. I'm a major at UNCC and my major is Software and Information Systems, so I'm trying to teach my self some of the fundamentals. I've learned that I need a wireless usb network adaptor to get backtrack working correctly, but seem to be having a really difficult time finding a good one because I'm on a mac. Here is the info (I think!) if I copied the wrong info, let me know and I'll look again:
Card Type:          AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xD6)
    Firmware Version:          Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.81.22)
I was looking at some of the Alfa Network Adaptors, but do not think they are compatible with Broadcom. If they are then I am more lost/confused than I thought I was. Is there anybody here that is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and can offer some suggestions or point me in the right direction? Also, may clarify some of this stuff. I'm new to the field, so I apologize again. Thanks in advance.

The version required for 10.8 is called iWork 09, its is no longer available from Apple.
    There are plenty on ebay.

  • Looking for best wireless Network Adapter for my PowerMac G5

    Dual 2.3 GHz PowerMac G5 (PowerMac11,2)
    5.5GBs DDR2 SDRAM
    Leopard 10.5
Before the local Mac Store upgraded me from Tiger To Leopard I was using a Hawking Technology HWUG1A Wireless Adapter. It was clunky and the software crashed me now and then. Now that I'm on 10.5 the Hawking Tech. software  crashed me every time it tried to connect to the router. I uninstalled it using AppCleaner, then reinstalled the Hawking 'Leopard version' of the software/firmware, still crashing me.
There support says "it should work" which I could still pursue getting it to work correctly, but I want to move on since I've never been happy with the product and don't want to risk wasting to much time incase it is simply not going to work.
It seems I have some PCI(e) slots (whatever is in the PowerMac) available on this mac, can it take a wireless network card? That would be much better than a USB doogle. Anyway, I'm looking for a reliable solution for connecting my PowerMac G5 to my router without using cables. Can you please recommend a product if you know of one?
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

  • Is it possible to rplace the ralink rt 5390 network adaptor for a better one

I have just bought a compaq presario cq57 ,the problem is that the wireless network adapter is rubbish .I have reset the Bt home hub in every configuration possible ,different channels and different security and i am sitting right next to the router but cannot get any speed above 54mps and that fluctuates wildley between 18mps and 54mps .Having read up on this problem it seems to be a known issue with this laptop and was wondering if a replacement card was available to get better speeds upto the or above the 150mps this adapter is supposed to be capable of .The only one i seen listed on HP's site is a a/b/g/n with bluetooth but even that is said to be the wrong one .
Any help or advice will be appreciated

    You're very welcome.
Your product number indicates that you have a Compaq Presario CQ57-426SA Notebook PC.
Below is the link to the support and driver page for your notebook.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=228&product=5211140&query=A7S38EA&s...=&
While there is no specific manual listed, I found one that must cover your notebook as it contains relevant info matching things like processor specs, etc.
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02948186/c02948186.pdf
Please see chapter 3, page 21 for the list of supported wireless cards with corresponding HP part numbers.
Any one of those should work. If you are looking for a dual band card, the only one I see that is capable of working on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequencies is the Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter, HP part # 602993-001.
You can order it at the link below, or look elsewhere. Do your search by the part number or you will most likely get a card that won't work.
    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=84D5E89A4F864E04AD56B356C6E8CEE8
I will note something that concerns me when I enter the part number of the above card in the HP parts store. It only comes up as a Realtek B/G/N 1x1 card. It does not match the description in the manual.
This is not uncommon. Replacing a wireless card in a HP notebook is oftentimes extremely frustrating.
    Good luck.

  • 10.4.11 wireless networking issues for Intel iMac

After being prompted by software update to upgrade to 10.4.11 from 10.4.10, I did so, but found my computer stuck at the grey screen upon restart. I have since done the archive + reinstall of 10.4.4, which allowed me to onnect to my wireless network again (other Intel and PPC Macs are able to access the same network). I then downloaded and installed the 10.4.11 combo package as some have suggested on other posts throughout this forum; however the problem has returned.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and/or does anyone have a solution other than reinstalling 10.4.4 and upgrading to 10.4.10 again?
    Cheers!

    Mizraith,
I have the same setup as you (the WRT300N router & a macbook pro (sept 2007). I have been investigating these issues for a while now. First, to be quiet honest, this router is a crappy piece of hardware. Simply google the product name along with interesting keywords such as 'vanish' 'problem' 'issue', and make your own conclusion. Not to mention that the product has had at least 3 hardware revisions: it pretty much says it all.
Here are my takes on this, I have had 2 different problems:
    1) First problem, the ESSID sometimes vanishs for a while. It is not macbook specific since I have observed that on my playstation 3 too. The only solution I have found to deal with this problem is to get to the wireless configuration of the router and change the radio band/wide channel, etc to something else. Then it'll work for some time before the problem reappears. I have contacted linksys tech support, and I strongly suspect that the support for N-mode is extremely incomplete, but of course they are not affirmative on this, otherwise they'd do a recall.
    2) Second problem, the signals gets weak and the connection just freezes. Not sure it is macos specific, but the fact is that with macos 10.4.10, when it happened, simply setting aiport off -> on used to be OK. Since I upgraded to macos 10.4.11, the system will then appear to be connected to the AP with a good signal, but the NIC will be assigned a self-assigned ip address (169.x). This also happend after putting the system in sleep. It seams to happen more often on battery mode on my macbook. Manually rerunning the dhcp client does not help. Solution? You guess it, the r.e.b.o.o.t.
The router may be an unstable product, but there are some obvious regressions in the wifi support of macos 10.4.11, at least, in error handling. Here again, a simple google search for '10.4.11 wifi' with 'problem' 'issue' should convince you.
I have contacted the tech support of Apple regarding that issue. I didn't even expected to have a magical solution, but at least, some hints or even a mere acknowledgment. They never replied to my mail.
Let me know if you have some news on that issue, and good luck!

  • Is there usb to firewire adaptor for macbook air

I have macbook air and want to connect my lacie drive via firewire but dont have a firewire port.  can you connect via a usb to firewire adaptor?

Going down such as Thunderbolt to Firewire might be an option, but best bet for that is probably going to be Apple...Thunderbolt is an Apple invention.
Sonnett makes really great products, I put one of their G4 processor cards, when you could still do that, into my PPC Mac and changed it from a 604e processor to a G4.  Worked flawlessly.  Their products are very likely to do exactly as advertised.
Speed of connection goes: USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, Thunderbolt.  Unfortunately there are not very many Thunderbolt drives on the market at this point.  Too new technology.

  • X201 running Windows 7 Home Premium problem with wireless network adaptor

my x201 shows that my wireless is on and my wireless network is available. it keeps trying to connect but is not able to hold a connection (continuously trying and failing). i'm on windows 7, 32 bit, home premium. i downloaded the latest update for the intel wireless today but it's still not working. any ideas?

    1) This could be a software problem, so try to uninstall the Wireless card software, and reinstall.
    2) If that fails, then try to do an OS reinstall.
    3) If OS reinstall fails, then it is a hardware problem, which most likely you need it replaced (if you are under warranty, then call the warranty support, if not then you can source a Lenovo branded wireless card for your machine).

  • Wireless Networking solutions for Tiger and G4 tower needed!

Got a "new" G4 Digital Audio, and also got a G3 Tray load Imac in my home, along with my WinTel machines, I've got DSL, and a Linksys wireless router in the bedroom feeding the rest of the house with broadband access. The Macs are giving me a hardware headache! The G4 has an airport card slot, but Airport cards are more expensive than MIMO cards right now, and I can't afford that solution. Currently using a WET-11 wireless bridge to get connectivity to it. Bought a DLink DWL-G120 USB adapter, being led to believe that it would work with Macs, but, alas, it does not. I've got two Orinco Gold A/B PCMCIA cards, and a PCI PCMCIA adapter card so I can use those cards in a PC. Well, the Adapter card is recognized, but the Orinoco cards are not. They are both 32 bit 5v PCMCIA cards.
Tried the 3rd party mac driver solutions, to no avail...
Hate to spend more money on cards/bridges, but need to do something quick. Got to take the Imac to my hotel to use while I'm stuck there, and need a wireless solution. I can take the bridge, but that would leave my G4 tower w/o a connection to the net, unless I string a CAT 5 cable 50 feet from the bedroom to the living room.
IMAC is running Mac OS 9.22. G4 has OSX 10.4.5.
PowerMac G4 Digital Audio   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   HP DVD Burner

Yes avoid the USB wireless adapters.
Your solution lies in the Ethernet wireless adapters (like the Linksys WET11 or WET54G). That will work for both of your Macs.

  • IMac can see everything on wireless network except for internet

My iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" iMac running 10.5.8 has been perfectly fine for a couple of years. Suddenly it will not get an internet connection on the wireless network in our home. We have several other devices on the network that have no trouble using the internet. The iMac can access these devices via wireless, just not the internet.
When it's attached via a LAN cable plugged into the Airport (Dome type) the internet is fine.
    We're flumoxed.
    Any suggestions greatfully received.

    HI,
Try the information in the Airport Troubleshooting Guide and see if you can resolve the problem that way.
If nothing there helps click here for the Airport Extreme Base Station Setup Guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
Type Command + F on your keyboard. Then type in: Reset top right side of your Safari window just under your Bookmarks Bar then press return on your Keyboard.
Follow the instructions to reset your Airport base station.
