Use 10.2.0.1 Datafiles in 11.1.0.6 installation

Hello,
last week a testmachine running an oralcle database 10.2.0.1 crashed. All needed files were still availabe. But instead of buying a new machine, IT decided to create a virtual machine and install 11.1.0.6 oracle database on it. When copying the old datafiles to that new machine and starting with 'startup' command, oracle gives an ORA-00205 message. The Alert Log says, that I've got to start the machine with startup upgrade.
Is there an easier way than installing oracle 10.2.0.1 on another machine again, upgrading the database (after starting it up with the old datafiles) to 11.1.0.6, and then copy the datafiles (controlfiles etc.) to the new virtual machine?

First of all you will have to install 10.2.0.1 and try to bring up database with that.
I hope database was shut down cleanly and you have all datafiles/controlfile available.
Once you succeed in that then only you can upgrade the database to 11G.
There is no other way.... you will have to check first with 10G software
Also while upgrading follow the upgrade guide properly...
Upgrade path will be :
10.2.0.X.0 TO 11.1.0.6.0
1. Install 11.1.0.6.0 software
2. Upgrade the database to 11.1.0.6.0

No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.

This usually means that a required component is missing. Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below. Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

I tried to install in my Sony Vaio Laptop - Model Name SVF15218SGW Serial No 54****************954. After installation of itunes, when i am trying to connect error message is showing as follows -

i already installed 64bit version. but not connecting my iphone with itunes

When you uninstalled iTunes, did you uninstall it by using the article below or just uninstalled iTunes? The best practice is to remove not only iTunes, but also other associating software in the order that the first article give. If that does not work, then check out the second article for more troubleshooting options for connecting your iPhone to your computer.

By completely removing all reference to apple or iTunes/iPod/ Safari etc from my computer, it has at last installed.

Did you get an error message when you did the standalone AMDS install? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

Using tar with zip for Datafiles backup on windows machine

Dear all,
We have R12 e business suite instance on windows.
I was implementing cold backup for this. Unfortunately i am not a windows guy.
I do have MKS tools installed on my windows machine, which contains the tar command.
Can i use tar -cvzf <bkp>.tgz <location of datafiles> for this?, My main concern is, is it going to harm the source like corruption etc..

If MKS tools are supported under Windows it should not corrupt input files whether input files are Oracle database files or any other Windows files.
You could try instead to use RMAN for cold backup if you have already RMAN experience:
- RMAN does not backup empty blocks
- RMAN can also compress backups
- RMAN is fully supported on Windows if corresponding Oracle version is certified on your Windows server.

RMAN - Using fileperset = 1 and want datafile name to appear in piece name

One of my many problems with Netbackup is the inablity to trace backups as they get duplicated around the environment
For our FULL backups, our backup script uses filesperset = 1 which means every datafile is backed up into its own piece
We use rman format parameters %s %U etc to label our pieces. What would really help us would be if we could have the datafile name appear in the name of the backup piece
Is that possible?
this is a sample extract of out script

Never tried but you can try with this
*%f - Specifies the absolute file number*.
I just checked, it works. It wll give you file number not file name though.
and also with
*%N - You can have tablespace name with it*. This would be little more helpful.
You can combine both to get the file number and tablespace name together. I got the output like this.
FULL_DB_2::UNDOTBS1.RMAN
This means file *2* of undo tablespace. I used this format string format 'E:\Full_DB_%f::%N.rman'

To Recover The Database Using a New Version of Datafile

Please give me the solution immediately
My one of the datafile is new and it is very important. It contains many data. I have a backup. I copy all the old files exept the new one. How i attatch the new datafile to the old database files. Now it sees the new file does not match with the old datafile and controlfile. It shows the message
THE CONTROLFILE VERSION IS OLDER THAN THE NEW DATAFILE VERSION.
our database version is 8.0

Please Give a Solution for the following problem.
First I shutdown the databae.
Copy all the redolog,control file and Datafile except one.
One datafile i miss at the time of copy.
Then I start the database and do some transactions.
At that time my system tablespace has been corrupted.
So i copy the old backup and overwrite with the actul file.
So one file backup is not there, that i forgot to take.
At the time of opening the database it shows that datafile version is higher than the controlfile.
Now what i did is came to mount stage and type the following command.
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE <FILENAME> OFFLINE DROP;
After that i open the database.
Now the problem is that missing file contain very important data.
Is it possible to recover the data?
Please give me an immediate solution.

Using CR and Xcelsius with SAP BW - what is the minimal installation?

If this question is allready asked and answered several times i appologize.. but I'm having a hard time finding the correct information.
Our situation is that we run an SAP ERP and SAP BW solution with a federated SAP Enterprise Portal on top. The users require more graphical solutions for both static reporting and dynamic dashboards. So we want to use Crystal Reports and Xcelsius to provide frontend interface, but we want to do as little as possible backend, i.e avoid installing a full BO server with roles etc.
I appriciate that we need SAP NW EhP 1 SPS 5 to load data directly into Xcelsius and the BO integration kit transports have to be loaded into the BW system for full CR connectivity.
The problem that I'm having a hard time finding anwsers to is if this setup is capable of storing and and distributing the CR reports and dashboards to endusers? Can CR reports be stored on the BW server? Or can the CR reports and the dashboards be stored in the KW part of the portal?
Another partly related question, what desktop tool does the enduser need to run CR reports that updates with data from the BW server?
Alot of customers will have an SAP environment without any BO server/tools. Naturally we want to change as little as possible. A guide to what is needed for each BO BI tool to be implemented on SAP BW would be appriciated.

for the CR reports you need a BO Enterprise (or BO Edge) installation. The access to the BOBJ server is done transparently for your SAP BW users (they are able to start their reports in SAP GUI) but the reports are not stored on the SAP system rather in the BO repository.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

Using Firmware Password Utility on my Macbook Air without OS X Installer DVD?

I am wondering how I can set up the Firmware Password on my 13.3" Macbook Air. I have used the Firmware Password Utility before from the OS X Installer DVD... however my Macbook Air has no DVD drive. Is there a partition somewhere on the HDD that I can access to get to this utility? Can someone let me know how I should go about doing this?

You mean, Can I still run boot camp without Windows? because that is what you will have, one empty boot camp partition. Buy a copy of Windows 7.
