Use a Windows 2003 Data vDisk

Hi!
I am migrating a VMWARE Data Server from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012. My idea is to use vdisk which contains all the data and add it to the new 2012 server, altough it as created in a 2003 Server. I can't think of any cons, but has anyone done this before?
Can you think of possible problems? Thanks!

Hi RAULPON,
>>I am migrating a VMWARE Data Server from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012.
Could you please tell us what "VMWare Data Server" is .
If it is a software , I would suggest you to conntact to the software vender to confirm whether or not it can run on windows 2012 .
(server 2012 supports virtual disk formats as VHD/VHDX )

  • Locked files using a Windows 2003 File Server with Mac 10.6 clients running CS5

We migrated 40 Mac users from OS X 10.5/CS3 to OS X 10.6/CS5 back in November. Our InDesign files are kept on a Windows 2003 file server.
We have had fairly constant complaints of InDesign and Photoshop files being reported as locked when users try to save their work back to the server. This did not occur as frequently with CS3.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I'd suggest starting with iFelix's Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x

If I install the same driver on the 2003 R2 server (by adding the driver under sharing and additional drivers) it will not work, I get an Operation Failed with error 0x00000bcb.
Win 7 will be useless if I cannot connect it to the network for printing using a print server.

  • Help connecting OS X to Windows 2003 Server SBS

We currently are using a Windows 2003 SBS Server that has no problem accepting connections from the numerous windows machines we are running. The Macs however are a different story.
We have attempted to connect with the SMB using both the server name and the Ip with no luck. We have gone through the numerous posts on this matter both on this site and Microsofts, but nothing has been helpful so far.
The most common errors returned are a -36 error and a password invalid error. We have verified that the passwords are correct and reset them a number of times as a precaution and this is not the issue.
Any assistance you could lend would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I am the ad-hoc admin for a Windoze network that several Macs connect to via SMB without much fuss. Silly questions first: are you running AD and have a domain? Does that domain show up under the Network icon on the macs? I have noticed that it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds for the macs to see our domain, no icon-no connection.
I am assuming that all your mac users are already set up as users in the domain and are allowed access to the share you are trying to reach.
How are your macs getting their IPs? Can you ping any of them?

  • Mac G5 reports a windows 2003 server has only 3.4 megs when it has 534 megs

Hello, We use a Windows 2003 Server. We have several macs connected to that server. 1 of these macs shows the windows network share as having only 3.4 megs free. The other macs show the windows share having 500 megs free. The server share does have 500megs free.
Why would this one mac report that there are only 3.4 megs free?
    Thank you in advance.

We have narrowed down the problem and found the culprit.
The issue is only repeatable on 10.4.x (we used 10.4.11 for testing, but it may affect earlier versions as well)
10.4.11 Local folder created with trailing space in the name, then copied to the Windows 2003 server = loss of security tab on this folder
10.4.11 existing folder on the server has a trailing space added to the folder name = loss of security tab on this folder
10.4.11 existing folder on the server has the trailing space REMOVED from the end of the folder name = security tab returns with permissions in tact
10.5.x Local folder created with trailing space in the name, then copied to the Windows 2003 server = no problem
10.5.x existing folder on the server has a trailing space added to the folder name = no problem
10.5.x existing folder (created under 10.4.11) with trailing space in the folder name has the space removed = Error code 43, unknown error occured
Also interesting is that the illegal characters for Windows \ / * : ? " | in the folder name prevent the folder being copied to the Windows 2003 server in 10.4.11, but are allowed in 10.5.x - all expect the : which is an illegal character in OS-X as well. None of these illegal characters cause issues on the Windows 2003 server as they are simply translated to a space.
The solution would be either as AJ mentioned to purchase Thursby AdmitMac or to upgrade all the users to 10.5.x (which I'm sure would make Apple happier!)

  • Connecting a Storedge 3320 SCSI enclosure to a 4200M2 (Windows 2003)

Does anyone know the steps to connect a StorEdge 3320 SCSI enclosure to a 4200M2 (Windows 2003)?
I have connected the array in a single-bus configuration - Chanel 3 to the Host.
Using the StorEdge Configuration Service Console - I am able to see the disks and create the logical drives.
When I reboot the server the new hardware wizard runs (found - SUN StorEdge 3320 SCSI Enclosure Device) - I cannot find a driver for this.
Under Disk Management the Disks do not show up at all.
    Any Ideas?

    Hello Tom,
I am trying to find a driver for <the StorEdge C2> to use on Windows 2003.
can anyone direct me to the correct driver for this device?
Get a backup application with autoloader, tapechanger or library support..
I have been using a general HP LTO3 driver but it appears that the device uses the same SCSI id for the media changer and for the tape drive.
Yes, same SCSI-ID, but different LUN,
Under Unix/Linux/Solaris you can use mtx to control the robot/changer or any commercial backup program with the above options/support.

  • Using Time Machine to back up to a Windows 2003 Server

I am trying to set up my Time Machine to back up to a windows 2003 server share. I have found some hacks on how to do so, however i am not successful.
What I have done so far:
TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 in terminal, which got TM to see my shared drives, however, when i try to backup to my specific drive it gives me an error of not being able to write disk image. So i did:
hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle
using the appropriate mac address, volume name, and OSX computer name. However, when i run that in terminal, it comes back with a message saying it can only create one volume at a time.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here, I feel so close, but im stuck.
Also, on another side note, If I get this working, I would like to find a way where when TM is backing up data, it does not pop up the work bar window, I would prefer if it just worked in the background, and show it's status in the menu. I dont know if this is possible, But any suggestions would be of help
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the response,
I understand the requirements for TM to work, and In the steps i've been trying, you'll see that the command 'hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle ' creates and HFS drive partition on my server share.
I guess i'm not looking for an answer as to why when i enter this command, I get a response of only one volume can be created at a time. Am I missing something in this command?
    Thanks!
Since you are using a hack, and therefore in an unsupported area, I suppose anything possible.
You might browse around the TimeCapsule forum which more closely represents what you are doing than this forum
    The TC forum is here:

It's possible that it may be a limitation of the system, hack or no hack.

  • Import ECC6 using DB2 9.5 in Windows 2003 server got error in Phase Insatlla database soft ware .

    Hi Expert,
When i am going to import ECC6 in windows 2003 server  using DB9.5 i got error in phase Install data base software  like below.
Invalid command line argument. consult the windows installer SDK for detailed command line help.
Please help me for this error.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks
    J Jana

'invalid command line argument' - Most probably the SAPinst is not able to find the right path for the DB2 UDB DVD or the the argument is too long to interpret which is a very common problem during installations.
Check the path for db2 DVD, and keep it shorter - that means you have to reduce the number of folders where the DVD resides. Copy the DVD in a short path let's say C:\DB2\dvdname and re-try installation by giving the new path of dvd in SAPinst.
    Thank you.

  • Data Execution Protection option in Windows 2003

Does anyone know if enabling the Data Execution Protection option in Windows 2003 will have any negative effect on a SAP system?

well it is as Eric already mentioned:
1st recommendation: Go for 64 Bit!
    2nd recommendation:
decrease the user address space carefully if you have to.
start with /userva=2900, if the problem still happens change /userva step by step to lower values each time evaluating wether the new value has fixed the situation.
the problem with /userva is, that it shortens the virtual address space (addressable memory for normal applications). with /userva=2700 your application is able to address 2.7 GB of virtual memory, the remaining 1.3 GB can only be used in kernel mode (operating system, drivers etc). In this case (/userva=2700) your application (ABAP Report, other memory consuming programs) can only utilize 300 MB less memory compared to /userva not set.
Those ABAP reports currently utilizing 95 percent of the available address space will no longer run when /userva is set to 2700.
It is much less pain to run on 64 Bit OS - you don't have to play around with all these funny parameters.

  • Problem opening ODBC data source in Windows 2003

I am having difficulty opening a ODBC data source in SQL
Server 2000 running on Windows 2003 using ColdFusion MX7 (it works
cleanly on the same database on windows 2000 server). Anyone has
    any ideas.

Here it is, there is an issue with our Search functionality with the new SDN:
    Symptom
When setting location on a Crystal Reports XI Report using the Progress OpenEdge ODBC Driver in Crystal Reports 2008 or Crystal Reports 2011 get “Some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source.  Please specify the table required for any unmodified tables.”
    Environment
    Crystal Reports 2008 or 2011
    Progress OpenEdge ODBC Driver
      Reproducing the Issue
Open a Crystal Report created in CR XI Report using the Progress OpenEdge ODBC Driver in Crystal Reports 2008 or 2011
Set location to a new ODBC Data Source
Get error "some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source.  Please specify the table required for any unmodified tables.”
    Cause
Crystal Reports XI only creates aliases for tables with special characters or duplicate names.
Crystal Reports 2008 introduces a change which requires aliases for all tables.
Aliases are not created when doing a Set Location on the whole data source.
If a Customer has hundreds of reports they cannot set location of each table and fix the aliases.
    Resolution
Upgrade to Crystal Reports 2011 Support Pack 02 or higher
Under registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\Database\ODBC] create string UseTableNameAsAlias and set it to PGPRO1019.DLL, PGOE1022.DLL. Registry file is attached.

I am using ODP.NET within the VS.2005. In web.config i have set the uiculture and culture to sv-SE, the settings on the webserver to Swedish without any positive results.
So, when i send away a date within the ODP commandparameter it rearrange the date from the component to the server. Any ideas to solve this problem? I have searched the net without any luck. Hopefully someone can help me in the right direction?
I was looking at setting NLS_LANG = SWEDISH with a first call to the database, but i have not tried that yet. Also, the code works fine on my local computer - so the translation of date is just on the windows 2003 server.

  • Windows 2003 - ntuser.dat corruption

    Hi,
Is there a way on a windows 2003 std edition to know what adds / corrupts the NTUSER.DAT file ? This file keeps growing at amazing rate and once it reaches around 180 MB we start to get a ton of I/O on the registry and a few hours later it locks up.
Also, is there a way to clear (literally clear) the certificate store ? We have over 15 000 corrupted entries in it.
Thanks for any advice / help you can provide
    Olivier

    Hi
Please use processmonitor and check registry change/add. A process must lock the registry a lot. Compare the log with a correct machine.
