Use access level in BPEL console

Hello Everyone,
We started using BPEL (SOA Suite 10.1.3.3) for OTM to 11i integration. Currently, everyone has access to the BPEL console to monitor BPEL processes or to track errors, even in production. Now this is really scary as anyone could go in and mistakenly clear the instance archives or even undeploy a process. No one other than the Unix admin has admin privileges to any of our other middle-tier applications and this should not be any different. But we also need a way for analysts to view process progress and trouble-shoot issues.
Is there any way we could give specific users access to the BPEL domain with only read-only privileges? I read about changing the Bpel console servlets to do the task, but I am afraid, this might violate Oracle support contract. I am sure we are not the only one having this problem.
Does anyone has any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Shaf

Not sure if that functionality is provided in 11g.
I'm not sure how much access you would want to give non-technical people to the console, all the information here requires a fair bit of training.
Oracle has human workflow and, bpel error frame work, which is deigned to notify and inform non-technical people of issues, etc. This means that you don't need to grant access to the consoles.
cheers

    Should I install any othter s/w to run oracle bpel other than pm?
    Thanks

    you dont need to install any other databse in case of Developers version as it will be installed along with Olite dabase.

  • Error in BPEL console (jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflow)

    Hi all,
    When I enter in BPEL console I'm getting this error:
    The following exception occured while processing this request:
    No se puede recuperar una conexión de origen de datos.
    El dominio de proceso no ha podido establecer una conexión con el origen de datos con la dirección URL de conexión "jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflow". La excepción mostrada es: [POL-3011] se ha detectado un error de lectura del dispositivo
    Compruebe que la máquina que contiene el origen de datos está conectada físicamente a la red. De lo contrario, compruebe que los parámetros de conexión de origen de datos (usuario/contraseña) son válidos actualmente.
    In English: Unable to get a connection to the data source. The process' domain couldn't establish a connection with the data source with URL "jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflow". Shown exception is: [POL-3011] a reading error has been detected. Make sure that the machine is connected to the net, otherwise, make sure the connection parameters for the data source (user/password) are actually correct.
    I'm working with my local Application Server so I don't need to be connected to the net (although, I am) and I have never changed my user and password to enter to the console....
    I have a BPEL process that is running correctly (it does some transformations that I've seen the results). When I enter in BPEL console and I look for the created instances I get the error I specified above. I would like to debug my processes, so it is necessary to access to the BPEL console. Anyone knows what could be happening? This error has happened suddenly, I've been able to enter to the BPEL console until today.
    Thanks for your help...

    Hi,
    If your bpel process is changing to an OFF state, it means that there is an error.
    For example, if you poll a file from a directory, and the file has a bad format, it might change to OFF.
    Look at the log files and find out what is the error.

  • Can not assign custom access level with a user login

    Hi,
    I am using Business objects XiR3. When I am loging in with a user having full control access and then I select a folder added a principal from user sercurity and when I am trying to add custom access level it gave me error
    An error occurred at the server during security batch commit: Request 0 of type 38 failed with server error : You do not have sufficient rights to make the requested security changes.
    it allow me to give access to standard access levels. also when I tried to assign custom access level with administrator user, it assigns custom access level to a principal without error.
    Can any body tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
    You have to make sure that the user group has the right 'Use access level for security assignment' assigned as granted on the access level you created. You can find this right under System / Access Level. That should do the trick!

  • Read only access for bpel console in SOA Suite 10.1.3.5.1(weblogic)

    Hi
    For SOA Suite 10.1.3.5.1 on weblogic, Is there any way to restrict certain users to some pages in bpel console.. e.g. read only access to bpel console.
    I have found articles on web regarding this but they all are for SOA Suite 10.1.3.3 (and 3.4) on Oracle app server. Article provides a hack by using servlet filters.
    How to do a similar thing in SOA Suite 10.1.3.5.1 on weblogic ?
    Can somebody provide step by step instructions?
    Thanks

    Hi James,
    I have already seen this link and several refined versions of it but it wont work for weblogic. For example
    There is no j2ee/oc4j_soa/applications/orabpel/console directory (i looked into home directory as well but could not found orabpel/console dir).
    So question is where to put filter class and how to make changes in web.xml as this file is not present in j2ee/oc4j_soa/applications/orabpel/console/WEB-INF/
    I checked deployments in weblogic admin console and seems BPELConsole is deployed as a module under BPELPM ear.
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

  • Error logging in using BPEL Console

    Hi
    When I try to login using BPEL Console, I get following error:
    "No domains accessible to the user logged in"
    I tried link "Goto BPEL Admin". I found no domains there. I am unable to add new domain also.
    Can anyone let me know if I need to change any configuration to make this work?
    Thanks

    Hi Badri,
    Check 1:
    First checkpoint where we can identify the detail of error description is checking the following log files;
    Domain Log: $SOA_Home\bpel\domains\default\logs\domain.log ('default' is the default domain name)
    - This log file will be created everytime the SOA service is started and will log any domain level startup issues
    OPMN Log: $SOA_Home\opmn\logs\OC4J~oc4j_soa~default_group~1.log
    - This log file will log all the BPEL process specific logs (creation/termination)
    System Log: $SOA_Home\bpel\system\logs\orabpel.log
    - System level logging is provided for infrastructure, AXIS, and WSIF issues
    All these log files should give a clear picture about the error which might be causing this issue, based on which you can take necessary actions.
    Check 2:
    Check whether the database on top of which Oracle SOA suite was installed is up & running. If not, ensure the RDBMS listener is running & restart SOA service.
    Check 3:
    The Oracle SOA suite will be installed on top of a database (Oracle Lite/external Oracle DB), where three schemas would have been created during installation namely Orabpel, Oraesb, Orawsm. These schemas might have got corrupted (or) their passwords might have got changed which throws "No domains accessible to the user logged in." error in Oracle BPEL console. Ensure all 3 schemas are present in the database and their passwords are intact as specified in the datasources.xml/during installation and restart SOA service after corrections.
    Check 4:
    If any class files have been added in the SOA suite, ensure they are properly compiled and deployed @ $SOA_Home\bpel\system\classes.
    Check 5:
    If you have added any custom xpath functions for use in the BPEL process, you might have added entries in the $SOA_Home/bpel/system/config/xpath-functions.xml. Ensure that this file is well formed.
    Check 6:
    If you have deployed any BPEL process recently after which the Oracle BPEL console throws this error, there might be high chance for issues in the deployed BPEL process.
    All deployed BPEL processes will be picked up from the following location. Take backup of the existing processes, delete all entries and then restart SOA service.
    $SOA_Home\bpel\domains\default\tmp ('default' is the default domain name)
    Refer : http://sathyam-soa.blogspot.com/2009/01/oracle-bpel-console-throws-no-domains.html
    Hope this helps!

  • What is the use of access level

    Hi Experts,
    What is the access level and what is use of each option in access level
    1  Application
    2  Superior component
    3. Top Component
    4. Sap
    5. Global
    and in Details section what is the use Properties tab
    1. Application Component
    2. Software Component
    3. Development Package
    4. Settings Class
    Please explain Each option use.
    Thank you in advance,
    Srini M.

    Hi Srini,
    just read the documentation (although the current status on SAP Help Portal isn't really up-to-date):
    1. [Entry point|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/cc/85414842c8470bb19b53038c4b5259/frameset.htm]

    W/r to "Application Component" etc., docu on Help Portal is definitely not sufficient. Here, the following applies:
    An application offers attributes for the application component and the software component. The application component and software component have to be the same as defined for the development package. Application and software component are automatically derived from the development package if they are not set explicitly.
    For the definition of the development package, application component, and software component, we recommend that you choose the same values that are in effect for the software solution that you want to enhance by a new BRFplus application. This simplifies all activities related to the software infrastructure, especially transports.

  • Using BPEL console testing with XML attributes

    I'm having trouble with using an XML attribute in my BPEL process. When I put an attribute on my input element, the BPEL Console test page no longer works. Here's what I'm doing:
    I create a synchronous new BPEL project in JDeveloper using the default input and output XSDs, and add a simple assign to assign the input to the output. When I deploy this and look at it in BPEL console, I can see the input field and enter my value to test.
    Now I go back into JDeveloper and add an attribute to the input element, and then redeploy my process. Now when I go into BPEL console, the Initiate tab no longer has any field for me to enter my value. Clicking the XML Source radio button doesn't help either. (I also tried invoking the BPEL process web service through the app server control - same issue.)
    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 with App Server 10.1.3.3.0. Does anyone know how to make the BPEL Console testing work with XSDs that contain attributes?
    Thanks,
    Skip

    A bit more info on this. It doesn't appear that the problem is limited to the console tester. I created another BPEL process which calls my original process, and attempted to set the attribute on the input using the Assign activity. JDeveloper generated this:
    <assign name="Assign_1">
    <copy>
    <from variable="inputVariable" part="payload"
    query="/client:TestAttributes2ProcessRequest/client:input"/>
    <to variable="Invoke_1_process_InputVariable" part="payload"
    query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input"/>
    </copy>
    <copy>
    <from expression="'bob'"/>
    <to variable="Invoke_1_process_InputVariable" part="payload"
    query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input/@attribute1"/>
    </copy>
    </assign>
    As you can see this is mapping a variable into the /TestAttributesProcessRequest/input element and then attempting to set the attribute of that element to the value 'bob'. This compiles just fine but when this code is executed, this error occurs:
    Error in <assign> expression: <to> value is empty at line "87". The XPath expression : "" returns zero node, when applied to document shown below:
    oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLElement@7efe7efe
    (Line 87 is query="/ns1:TestAttributesProcessRequest/ns1:input/@attribute1"/>)
    Is there something wrong with this generated code? Do I need to do some kind of custom code to set attributes, instead of using the graphical tools in JDeveloper?

  • Error accessing BPEL console

    Hi,
    I'm getting the following error when trying to access BPEL Control, any idea what the problem could be?

    Applies to:
    Oracle(R) BPEL Process Manager - Version: 10.1.3.3
    This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
    -- Problem Statement:
    After upgrading 10.1.3.1.0 SOA to 10.1.3.3 you're unable to access BPEL Console, and get the following exception :
    Exception Message: [java.lang.NoSuchMethodException] com.collaxa.cube.ejb.impl.FinderBean.tryLookupInstanceByReferenceId(java.lang.String,com.oracle.bpel.client.auth.DomainAuth)
    -- Steps To Reproduce:
    1. Upgrade 10.1.3.1.0 to 10.1.3.3
    Cause
    There has been a problem with the orabpel.ear file in some environments. The issue
    can be vefified by checking the size of the orabpel.ear files in the the following locations
    SOA_HOME\bpel\system\services\lib
    and
    SOA_HOME\j2ee\home\applications
    If only one of them is of size 2530260, then you have hit upon the cause for this issue in your environment.
    Solution
    -- To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
    Copy the orabpel.ear from SOA_HOME\bpel\system\services\lib (the one that is of size 2530260) to the location
    SOA_HOME\j2ee\home\applications (to replace the one that is not 2530260) and restart.

  • Problem with Restrict Access to Page with access level using ASP

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP-VBScript and an Access
    database. The pages were created from scratch for this project,
    using those tools all the way through.
    I've created a login page, an admin homepage, and add, edit,
    and list records pages for three tables. The login page uses the
    Server Behavior "Log in User", all other pages use the Server
    Behavior "Restrict Access to Page". All of these are based on an
    Access Level.
    Login seems to work correctly, and redirects to the admin
    homepage. From the admin homepage, I can open any other page as
    expected, and they initially display correctly. On the add and edit
    pages, however,
    submitting the form often results in getting logged out, but
    not always.
    Once this happens, I can log back in, but other problems will
    sometimes occur during that second login session. Sometimes,
    logouts will occur on pages that worked fine during the first login
    session. Sometimes, another session variable that I've setup
    manually will change when it shouldn't...as if there were two
    values stored for my session variable, and reloading the page
    changes to the other value.
    This
    post seems closest to my experience, but it doesn't look like
    there was really an answer beyond "I had to fight with it for a bit
    to get it to work":
    I suspected that there is some problem with session settings
    on the server. We have an almost identical tool on the same server
    that was developed with an older version of DW that works more
    reliably; it sometimes has problems with the initial login, but
    never has a problem after that.
    Has anyone experienced problems like this? Any suggestions
    for what to check? I'm really pulling my hair out since it's so
    unreliable...the kind of problem that goes away when you try to
    show someone and comes back when they leave.

    Hello,
    I was thinking that all I would need would be the username, although username and paswsword would be more secure.  There are about 50 users and no groups or levels.  They are all equal ... same level.
    The website is private and there is a general content area for all users and then there will be private areas for each user where proprietary documents will be held.  I need to be able to ensure that user 'A' can only see the user 'A' pages, user 'B' can only see user 'B', etc.
    I don't really understand what the Dreamweaver script is doing, but the overview sounded like it was the right tool to accomplish what I'm trying to do.
    Any assistance greatly appreciated.
    thanks.
