  • I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC that uses an external storage device to a new PC (Windows 7) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with new iTunes 11.  How do I do this??  What folder does iTunes use?

I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC (Windows Vista Home Basic) that uses an external storage device to store the files to a new PC (Windows 7 Starter) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with the new iTunes 11.  How can I accomplish this successfully?    What folder does iTunes use to store the data in?  I've tried several things.  Home Sharing caused duplicates but not all songs or apps transfered.  It is a large library! I've tried just setting the path in the Advanced Tab of iTunes preferences of the new computer with the external drive connected the same as the path when the external drive is connected to the old computer.  This was the best solution so far but still a few artists missing and some apps. Any suggestions?

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
With iTunes 11 you might also have a Home Videos folder inside iTunes Media.
In the simplest cases you copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target machine, install iTunes, and it "just works"TM.
If the media folder (inside the red outline) has been split out to a separate location then you can copy the library folder (outside the red outline) as before and connect the drive holding the media so that it has exactly the same path as before. If the drive appears as D: on one system and E: on the other then the library won't be able to find the media.
The crucial file is iTunes Library.itl - this contains a record of the tracks that have been added to the library, ratings, play counts, playlists etc.

  • Where Can I download the BIOS for the laptop DV6-2101ax BIOS using an external storage device?

Have you tried the BIOS file on your Support page with no luck? http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6-2100-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/4041735/model/4093933#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1

    I use a HP laptop model DV6-2101ax.
I'm getting a BIOS corruption error on startup.
So I found a solution "Recovering the notebook BIOS using an external storage device" in web page of "Restoring the BIOS".
But I can not find and download the BIOS for DV6-2101ax like describing the solution web page.
Where Can I find and download it?

  • I am thinking of buying a "new" iPad but I have a very large iPhoto library which I would like to keep intact and be able to view on my new iPad.  Is there a way to use a external storage device to store the iPhoto library and view it on the iPad?

I am thinking of buying a "new" iPad but I have a very large iPhoto library which I would like to keep intact and be able to view on my new iPad.  Is there a way to use a external storage device to store the iPhoto library and view it on the iPad?

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
I have a G4 that I have managed to add a couple of controller cards and a total of 6 hard drives stashed inside. Because it has gig ethernet it makes a great central storage device.

  • 8320 - Can't use as mass storage device

    Hello all,
I received this Blackberry from my dad, he works at this company and they gave him this blackberry a while ago, and eventually they gave him a new one so he gave me this one. Needless to say, it was registered with BES, with some restrictions, however I was able to remove them all, from firewall policies to MMS and other policies that didn't allow to do certain things. (it's now BIS)
Everything is working great, except that I'm not able to access the media card using windows explorer. I'm not getting the prompt when connected to the PC, despite the fact that at options (on the device) I have it configured to prompt, and media card is activated and all.. which should make it work, but still doesn't.
I installed USB drivers (5.0.1) then the DM 5.0.1... tried to connect but nothing. However, DM does detect the device and shows its PIN number, I can make backups and install apps from there, so it is connected correctly, but I don't get a prompt asking for mass storage or just charge as it should...
I think it has to do with restrictions it used to have, because I can't think of any other reason for it not working. I wiped the device once, reinstalled ALL the device software (4.5) from my carrier, make sure no policy was active (I removed them using both policy.bin file and  JL_cmder method.. the later worked best as it removed policies for firewall as well, which I was not able to do with the blank policy.bin file method. I removed the policy file already from my computer and deleted the registry entry I made when I used it, so this should not be a problem now. I even reinstalled DM, USB drivers, and tried "calfix" from blackberry support, which supposedly was going to fix my problem, but didn't.
I tried reading lots and lots of forum post, either from here or any other BB forum on the internet, but the solutions haven't worked on my BB device...
So, can anyone help me? What should I do? USB mass storage option is the only thing that doesn't work, but I need it to transfer files between my PC and my BB....
    Thanks in advance.
edit: I forgot to add more details,
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    8320 with OS 4.5.0.55 installed
USB cable: the one provided with the device, I even tried connecting another Blackberry and it worked fine, so it has to be a problem with my blackberry and not the PC/windows/cable/desktop software.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
First -- thank you so much for the detailed report...it really helps us know how to guide you! Kudos!!
I do not think that you have yet successfully removed the IT Policy...here is another method that has been tried by many that works:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Storm-BlackBerry-9500/Remove-IT-Policy-from-person...
After you complete that, you will have to reset everything from scratch...but the Policy should be gone.
Good luck and let us know!

  • How can i use my ipod touch as a storage device/storing photos

The suggested advice in this support article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1478 wasn't a help at all, because the option "enable disc use" in the summary window of itunes doesn't appear. I am runnin' the latest itunes version and the latest ipod touch software, by the way.
Secondly, i have some photos on my ipod touch which a friend of mine copied from his macbook pro. Now i would like to copy them on my computer. itunes doesn't offer any option for this.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thx in advance

    *From the article*:
    Products Affected
iTunes 7 for Mac, iTunes 7 for Windows, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, iPod mini, iPod, iTunes 8 for >Windows, iTunes 8 for Mac
No mention of the Touch, it works differently from other iPods and has no "disk mode" as such.
I think it can be used as a storage device by using a 3rd party App, search the the App Store for such items.
Photos transferred to your Touch via iTunes will be of severely compromised quality i.e 640x480 pixel resolution and file size around 600-700 kb. These can be retrieved, again using a 3rd party application on your computer, such as [Touch Copy|http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy> but you will not get back original quality images.
    Good luck,

  • Ipod touch & Multi media storage devices

Can I use a multimedia storage device (Iomega ScreenPlayhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Iomega-ScreenPlay-Ethernet-Director-Multimedia/dp/B002R0 3ZDU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1319015569&sr=8-5 ) to use solely as a storage interface for Itunes. I do not have access to a PC or Laptop most of the time. When i do have access it's usually a different machine than i used previuosly (i work on yachts). The Ipod will be able to offer me everything i need so don't want to spend money on a laptop/pc/tablet if the multimedia device can be accessed by the ipod touch for storage and retreival of my files.
    Thanks for time

I understand what you are asking, but the answer remains no. You can only load external music on it with iTunes on a PC or Mac. ( itunes is pre-installed on the iPod, but this is a shop system, a store to purchase music. ) Mac Apps or PC programs cannot be installed on iOS, the OS that runs on the iPod.
My advise would be to sync the iPod to a PC/Mac that holds your media files, load whatever will fit in the storage capacity on the iPod and then take it with you "on the road". Songs you want "on the road" which are not on it, can be purchased in the itunes store. Whenver you are near a Wifi hotspot, you can go online with the iPod and have access to everything Apple sells for iOS, including Music,TV-Shows,Movies,Apps,Books etc.

  • Unrecognized mass storage device (BOLD)

I got my bold a couple days ago and I plugged it in to transfer some stuff but nothing came up. My roomates Bold worked perfectly on my computer it showed up with both the Bold and his media card as seperate drives but nothing for mine.
I have changed the Bold settings to use as mass storage device but still nothing
Im on a macbook, any ideas?

    Hi uvadula,
As well as enabling mass storage, please check your BlackBerry bold smartphone setting under Options, Memory, to ensure that Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected is set to either Yes, or Prompt.  If your device has a password, you should be prompted upon plugging in the handheld for this password.
    Thank you!

  • I am trying to use my iphone as a storage device to move my music to another computer but it shows up as a camera instead of storage device on my computer.  Any ideas?

I am trying to use my iphone as a storage device to move my music library to a new computer.  My phone is showing up as a camera instead of as a storage device on my old computer so I can not move my music file to it.  Any ideas as to how I prevent this as showing up as a camera/scanner when I connect to my computer?

It's supposed to show up as a camera because it is a camera.  Additionally, you won't be able to sync your music from your iphone back to iTunes... media sync is one way... iTunes to the iPhone.
Google TouchCopy to copy the media from your iPhone to your computer.

  • Can I use iCloud like a mass storage device - pc free

I am living on a boat and I am using my iPad w a camera connector kit. Can I back up photos that won't all fit on my iPads internal memory(16G), using iCloud like an external hard drive?  I don't have a pc w me and don't want one.

With iCloud and photo stream your photos are automatically syced to the cloud, but the photos will only stay in the cloud for 30 days which is enough time by Apple's standards to download them from the cloud to a mac or pc so I guess the answer to your question would be no, you cant use iCloud as a mass storage device.

  • Limited storage in iPhone so i bought 20g iCloud. how can i use this iCloud storage in my device to store music and photos?

I have a limited storage in iPhone so i bought 20g iCloud. how can i use this iCloud storage in my device to store music and photos?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could sign up for iTunes match and use iCloud photo library with optimisation enabled. The later will keep optimised photos on your device and iTunes match will let you access your whole collection and make room for newer content by removing older unplayed items.

  • Can I use a networked Macbook as a storage device?

I am needing to see if my idea will work and need some ideas.
I have a macbook in which the screen became damaged this summer. Everything else is running fine.
I am teaching Journalism and would like to use the macbook as a storage device for my students photos. I teach in a classroom with 14 Windows XP computers and they go to a switch, which in turn goes out to the network & Internet. I would like to plug the Macbook into the switch and have each one of the computers access it for the hard drive storage.
Is this a possibility? If so, does anyone have a website they can guide me to that would have directions on how to do this? I have done a search and the only thing I can find is making a server for your website. So, I am thinking that I must be searching the wrong terminology.
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

Let me just tell you how to set it up. On the Mac, do the following:
Go to the Apple Menu, then System Preferences, and select Sharing. Enter a computer name that doesn't have spaces in it for the sake of simplicity. Check the box for File Sharing, then click File Sharing. Click the Options button. Check the box for Share files and folders using SMB. Check the box for your user account, and enter your password. You can now exit System Preferences.
On the Windows PCs, go to Start, then Run, and type \\computername and hit enter. You should see Randy's Public Folder or something like that. Right click it and say "Map Network Drive." Check the box for Reconnect at Login, pick a drive letter and hit Finish. Tada!
So how do you use this? On the PCs, the drive you picked will be the public folder on your Mac. When students open the drive they'll be able to read (only) all the files in the public folder. They can write (only) to the Drop Box folder by dragging documents on top of it.
Now, if you have a PC you want to access this from yourself, you do the same thing but in the Map Network Drive you click the part for connecting as a different user and enter your Mac login credentials. Now you can read and write to the share on only that computer.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Regards,
    -Ryan

  • I just moved and wireless internet is now provided for me. I am not using my Time Capsule as a router anymore but can I still use it as my storage device wirelessly?  So far I cannot get it to work. Please help.

    Hi,
I just moved to a new place.  I used to have my own internet setup and used my Airport Time Capsule as my router.  Now that I don't need to use it as a router I would still like to use it as a storage device for my pictures.  Can I still do that wirelessly or do I have to plug it into my computer?  And if I do (which would really be crumby) do I just use a USB cable?
Please help.  I have a lot of work stored on it and I am feeling pretty stuck at the moment.
    Thank you,
    Charlie

You can use your Time Capsule in your new network in a number of ways. One would be as a NAS device which I believe you are looking to do.
To do so, you would connect the TC to the new router by Ethernet. You would also want to reconfigure the TC as a bridge and disable its wireless radios.
You can do both of these using the AirPort Utility, as follows:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the TC, and then, select Edit.
    Select the Network tab.
Change Router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Select the Wireless tab.
    Change Network Mode to: Off
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.

  • What are the best storage devices for use with Time Machine?

My backup and storage requirements are minimal but still important to me.  What storage devices do my Apple using Compatriots find the best for data storage.  I do think that the Time Machine is a more than adequate program for my needs but would be happy to hear any other suggestions.  All input will be appreciated.

It's been moved and seconded. Any discussion? Yes:
Buy two external drives. Use one for Time Machine. Be sure this drive is at least twice the capacity of your computer's hard drive. Use the second drive as a bootable clone of your computer's hard drive. Should something happen you can immediately get the computer up and running from the clone until your restore from the Time Machine backup. This is what is called redundancy. Should either backup drive fail, there's another to take its place. Backup redundancy is very important. You can never have too many backups.
