  • Hi there - do you know if I will be able to sync a new ipad with ios5 with a backup from my now defunct ipad2 ios 4.3.3 ?

Hi there - do you know if I will be able to sync a new ipad with ios5 (or even an ipad 3 if it ever gets released !) with a backup from my now defunct ipad2 ios 4.3.3 ?
    Thanks

You will be able to restore from the backup of the old iPad and then sync all of the other content but you may need to update a bunch of apps in order for them to work with iOS 5 - but yes - you can use that backup.

  • TS3682 Is it a problem to restore a backup from an iPhone 4 with IOS 7.1 to iPhone 5S with IOS 7.0.1 ?

Is it a problem to restore a backup from an iPhone 4 with IOS 7.1 to iPhone 5S with IOS 7.0.1 ?

Yes. You cannot Restore a Backup to an Earlier version of iOS.
Your iPhone 5s needs to have iOS 7.1 to match your iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1

  • Using backups from an IPAD 2 on multiple IPAD 2 Systems

Can you use a  backup from one IPAD 2 to backup another IPAD 2 if you have the serial numbers of each of the IPAD 2 systems?  I had to return my initial IPAD 2, but I backed it up on my computer, and would like to use the backup with the apps on the replacement IPAD 2 system.

Just restore the new iPad from the old iPad's backup.  Serial numbers don't matter.  Using the same iTunes Store account does matter if you want the apps to work.
Find instructions here: iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

  • TSPITR using backups from standby

    Hi,
I would like to ask for your opinion/advice regarding the following
scenario. We have a primary 10.2.0.3 RAC database which has a physical
standby database, both sites being managed through dataguard. Every
night full RMAN backups are taken for the primary and standby
databases. Between the primary and standby sites we do not have any
shared storage like NFS or SAMBA (because of the problems mentioned
    into Note:413098.1).
Now, as far as I know, backups of datafiles/archives taken from the
standby can be used on primary, am I right? So, what I would like to
achieve is to perform a TSPITR of one particular tablespace by taking
a backup control file from the primary but using datafile copies and
archives from the standby. And of course, because I don't want to load
too much the primary, the auxiliary instance should be located on the
standby machine. Is this possible? Has anybody tried this before?
    Many thanks!
    talek.

if you are on 10.2.0.3, check this document and make use of Incrementally Updated Backups: Rolling Forward Image Copy Backup
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm
You can restore datafiles backedup from physical standby
can restore archivelogs created on physical standby
but can not use control file from standby to recover on primary
You should be able to use bakcup from a physical standby and recover any tablespace in Point In Time on priamry prvovided you have a backup/datafile copy before and archives untill that time.

  • Problems, trying to use backup from 5.1.1 iOS Gen 3 iPod does not sync music to 4th gen iOS 6 iPod.

My 3rd Gen iPod's headphone connector is basically shot, I've had it for around if not over two years now; sometimes I'm surprised it lasted this long; since I am not one who usually listens to her music without headphones, this is problematic, .
Luckily, a family memberI know had a gen 4 iPod, 32g, same space amount as my old one, lying around that they don't use anymore, thank goodness.
Well, in one case, not so much. First of all, said iPod was locked with a passcode (the passcode was guessed so many times because no one could remember it, it locked permenantly) so I had to completely wipe it. However, it wasn't so bad, though all the information was lost, I could finally use iOS 6 on an iPod.
Well, iOS turned out to be a huge problem, in the way of synicing my old backup. I have about, um, an estimated 3000 songs on my 3rd gen iPod, that of which are not all on one computer, and are from multiple computers (my desktop / laptop); I thought all the songs would transfer over with the rest of my things. I didn't think the iOS made a difference.
Lo and behold, I was dead wrong.
When my iPod was restored to my previous backup, it had no music, only my pictures and apps were added. I'd call 'it annoyed me' an understatement. I waited all that time for the ipod to restore and the backup to finish, only to get my one hundered pictures and two apps.
I have tried to look up how to extract music from my iPod, but to no avail, my computer recognizes it as a camera and I can only access the picture files; the way I read you have to do it online, you must be able to actually get into the iPod's folders, besides the picture folders, and I can't seem to do that; there was an option in earlier versions of iTunes that allowed the iPod device to be displayed as something other than a camera but it no longer seems to be an option in the new iTunes.
All the programs for extracting files, specialized for iPod file extraction, actually, cost money, which at the moment, I don't have much of, this iPod was given to me by a family member, and I'm lucky I even have it. Manual extraction is also something I've tried but failed miserably at, as mentioned earlier.
I'm really not up for re-synching one by one, I want this to be as quick and painless as possible. I have the available GB for my 3000 songs (I checked). Most of my songs are mp3s, and some are m4as. Not everything is bought, and not everything is going to be able to be downloaded through iCloud on account of the fact that there are, uh, over 2GB worth of songs, so does anyone have any solutions to my problem here? I have over 50gb in my desktop library alone, loads more in my laptop library, and I really don't feel like separating all the songs from my previous iPod into a single playlist, if there's a more efficient, free solution out there....
This would not have been a problem in the first place, if the passcode was not there; but blame the previous owner of the 4th gen iPod for that. She typed it so many times it locked her out. And so, I had to reset, but not without an automatic update for iOS 6, which my gen3 can't update to, because it's, well, outdated.

Connect the iPod to your computer and update to iOS 6.1.3. You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.

  • I can't restore my data from my iphone5s or ipad to my new iphone6, because it woulkd seem that none of the available backups from icloud are compatible with iOS 8.0.2, which is what the new iphone is running. (or so it seems).

Just received my iphone6, as my iphone5s gave up the ghost. Completely. I now want to restore everything that I had on my old phone to my new new one using icloud. However, when I arrive at the screen that asks you to select a backup version, it shows me a list, but then at the bottom of the screen there is a message that says that 'no icloud backups are compatible with the version of (8.0.2) on this iphone.' I also have an ipad, and both the 5 and the ipad were updated to 8.1. I did try to back up via itunes, but only got some of my photos's back and none of my messages, some of which had essential information on them. Anybody have any idea's? Any help gratefully recieved!

Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.

  • Sync ipod using backup from different computer

I have a computer (running windows 7 32-bit, if that info is needed) which is the only computer I would sync my ipod touch with (4th gen, 32GB, running latest stable iOS). I recently did a wipe and reload on my computer, reinstalled iTunes, and added back all my apps, music, etc. I also copied all my old sync files from the backup (because I was smart and copied my C: drive to an external hard drive first before the wipe and reload) from the external hard drive to the C:\Users\Derek\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder on the computer where they should be. I can even see them in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices>Device backups where they should be (see screenshot: http://goo.gl/XFgn7). But every time I connect my ipod touch to my computer, I get this warning (see screenshot: http://goo.gl/xZQjW).
My question is thus: If I click "Erase and Sync" on the warning dialog, will this act like a regular sync, or will it get rid of the apps and organizing system I have on my ipod and replace them with the ones on my computer?
    AND
If the result will be replacing the organization system I have already set up on my ipod, how do I tell iTunes to sync from the old backup?

Make a copy of the backup that you made and place it in a safe place like in My Documents. The backup is loated:
    Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.
Then let iTunes erase and sync the iPod.
If necessary, restore the iPod from that backup .

  • TS3682 Iphone 3g cannot restore backup from an Iphone 4 on IOS 7.

so... i went from having a 4 back to a 3.... had ios 7 on my iphone 4 and now I can't restore back-up because that upgrade isnt available for Iphone 3..... Anything that I can do?

I agree, this actually makes me regret buying an iphone because the main reason for buying an iphone 5 is to avoid setting up the phone, contacts etc. from scratch and now it doesn't really make any difference.
And I am not sure if I should back up iphone 5 now after using it for a while as I am not sure if it would overwrite the back up from my old phone.
Can anyone help loading the back up of iphone 4 onto iphone 5???

  • Can I use backup from iMac on Mac mini?

My iMac just went into the Apple Store shop today for a new disk drive. I have a cloned backup of it from Super Duper, on an external drive. Is there any way I can boot from that drive on my Mac mini? Thanks.

As long as the version of Mac OS X on the backup drive is the same or newer than what came from the factory installed on the mini it should boot fine.

  • Replacement phone has iOS 7.2 backup from old phone is in iOS 7.1 it will not allow me to restore replacement phone to backup, anyway around this?

Replacement phone has iOS 7.2 installed backup was created in ios 7.1 anyway to restore replacement phone with my backup files? I tried updating the software on the broken phone but it says it is up to date.

You must mean that the replacement iPhone has iOS 7.0.2 since there is no 7.2 version, 7.1 is the current version.  If your backup was created with iOS 7.1 it will not restore to an iOS 7.0.2 iPhone.  If the iPhone will not update to 7.1 for you, take it back to the Apple store and have the genius bar staff update it so you can restore your backup.

  • Want to backup ipad on computer, but itunes is only allowing me to "set up as a new iPad" or "restore" using backups from other apple devices connected to my itunes account. Help?

    ?

See if this user-tip helps : Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
The page was written specifically for phones, but it applies to iPads as well
Some of the steps on that page have changed slightly (it was written for a previous version of iTunes) :
5, is now File > Devices > Transfer Purchases
6, 'Reset Warnings' at the bottom of the phone's Summary tab in iTunes
    7, File > Devices > Back Up
8, File > Devices > Restore from Backup (or Restore Backup button on the Summary tab)

  • Can I restore my info to a new iPhone 6 plus using a backup of an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2?

Just bought a new phone and want to import all my app settings and information. I have heard all the complaints about iPhone 4s running iOS 8 and don't want to update until I have it preinstalled on a new 6+.
Can I restore my info to a new iPhone 6 plus using a backup of an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2?
or would I have to upgrade my 4S to iOS 8, backup, and then restore the new phone. I need to ensure that my 4S powers on and works so I can receive trade in credit for it (~$200), so this is worth a bit to ensure that my 4S stays functional.
    Thanks

You can load a backup from an earlier iOS version onto a device with a later iOS version, but not the other way around.
If you're going to do this, I'd recommend doing a backup of your 4s to your computer (not iCloud) and load the backup onto the 6+ from the computer.  You can try an iCloud backup/installation, but also do a local backup in case something goes wrong. A local backup is more comprehensive than an iCloud backup, and in my experience it loads more reliably.
