Use BootCamp with HP Recovery Disk

I want to use bootcamp on my MacBook. I own a HP Desktop. I have the Recovery Disks that came with the Computer (XP operating system). I also have also bought a vista upgrade from Microsoft. I tried to use the recovery disks to install Windows on my second partition, but I always receive the "invalid CD, press any key to continue".
Is there a way to extract the Windows operating system from the recovery disks or can i use the vista upgrade to install windows on my second partition?

Forget about using those HP installation disks. That is not going to work. Please read *[_This Section_|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11889.html]* which indicates which version(s) of windows will work with Boot Camp. In short you will need a FULL RETAIL version of either Windows XP or Vista.
can i use the vista upgrade to install windows on my second partition?
There is a way to do that however it is not recommended by Apple. I am not sure if it is even ethical to do so. It appears to be a simple process. Please *[_Click Here|http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgradeclean.asp]* to see that process. I have not used this process and have no further information if you run into issues during installation.

  • 0X4001100200001012 error with windows recovery disk

For quite some time (over a year), I've been seeing chat about this error when attempting to make recovery disks on Dell machines. Basically, a recovery disk made in windows 7 starts to boot, when tested, but then gets to what looks like the blue background
for a normal startup screen and shows an error code  0X4001100200001012 error.
Invariably, someone trots out advice about burning disks slower or running a file error check. Neither of these work. Some believe that the error has something to do with the Dell recover partition that all Dells ship with.
If one boots with the windows 7 install disk, all goes well, and one can recover an image file, so it is definitely some sort of error introduced at the windows 7 recover disk creation process.
I have seen this problem with 2, different model, Dells. An HP does not have the problem. Its recovery disks work fine. All three machines are running different versions of windows 7 64.
Do you have any insights into what is causing this error, and whether it can be remedies or if Dell owners just have to live with it? Calling Dell technical support is...well, lets just say that life is too short.

    Hi,
According to your description, it indicates you have a problem with your recovery disk. It may be caused by recover disk creation process.

  • How to install windows 8 using bootcamp with no optical drive

    Hi,
I have a mac book pro 17" late 2011 with Mountain Lion installed.
I have previously installed a windows 7 using bootcamp without an optical drive by creating an install disk as part of boot camp option.
I still don't have an optical drive.
The other day I removed my Windows 7 since I want to try Windows 8 but when I try using boot camp to install windows 8 it is asking for an optical drive and the option to create an install disk is not available anymore.
    Any idea on this issue?
    Thanks much

It should be straight forward and no different, except you are burning an ISO and that always needs to be done at slowest burn speed for any version of Windows.Otherwise it won't work (even if it manages to install it will fail on restart or some other point).

  • Restoration Fails with HP recovery disk. Will ordinary retail copy of WIn8 install OK?

I'm having weeks of pain trying to restore an HP Envy m6 that failed a couple of days outside its warranty.
I've tried reinstalling from the original recovery partition and recovery disks burnt from the original recovery partition.
These both failed with the error.  Detect some error during PININST_BBV
Diagnostic checks suggested the Hard disk might be failing so I've replaced it and bought a new set of HP Recovery disks which HP believed would solve the issue. However I get the same error. Detect some error during PININST_BBV
The installation in all cases appears to have gone fine.
I strongly suspect the HP recovery process is faulty but HP want to charge be a 34 pounds just to speak to someone for a few minutes.
Does anyone know if I can install an ordinary copy of windows 8 bought in a retail store instead?
The product key seems to be buried in the BIOS at the moment and I don't know if that will affect activation if I try to install a non-OEM version
Any anwers on help on the original problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry, I really don't have a clue how to exclude Fingerprint driver from Recovery.
    =============================
You should't have to worry about Activation. The BIOS key should work with the Windows 8 you installed from ISO download. Actually the install should have checked for and pulled the key already.

  • T60 problem with product recovery disks

After Installing disk 1 of product recovery I am getting a message asking for "Final C" disk. I do not have this and I can go no farther with the recovery
How can I get past this? What could be causing this?

Maybe you could provide a little more information as to how you are trying to recover your system, are the recovery discs from Lenovo or did you create them yourself?
    Recovery scenario using Lenovo or self created recovery discs;
boot from the Lenovo R&R or 1st disc created, once it has loaded choose to restore system and then restore to factory settings. Make sure you read all messages carefully. If it says remove disc and turn off and then turn on your system, you will need to, after removing the disc, press the power on button untill the system turns off, then turn it on again without inserting any disc.
You may be asked for a supplemental disc. If the discs are self created you do not have this disc and you need to click on "no". If the discs are from Lenovo you may, may not have one, click "yes" or "no" accordingly. Proceed as instructed and your system will be recovered.
Edit; just had another thought, may / may not be relevant in this case - but just in case: If you are starting the system, then pressing the blue ThinkVantage button, and do not have a factory restore option; - if you can still boot into windows you need to run System Update and let it update itself. Then try the ThinkVantage button again at boot, hopefully the factory restore option will be available.
    Hope this helps

  • I am using bootcamp with windows 7, and always is showing me that there is no networks, it says I don't have a driver for the adapter; therefore i keep installing it, and suddendly windows 7 doesnt recognized it.

I have a Macbook Air 13" (mid 2012), recently i installed windows 7 with my original disk and code. I downloaded all the drivers via bootcamp assitant, however everytime the machine keeps disconnecting spontaneously from the internet, and keep saying that there is not driver for the adapter.
    What can i do???

I install it according boot camp instructions. My thunderbolt adapter used to work fine with windows 7, but suddenly windows 7 did not recognize the driver of the adapter, and each time i install it, happens the same.

  • Using W530 Win 7 Recovery Disks on W540

    Hi All,
    I own W530 and W540 thinkpads. I bought W530 almost 18 months ago and W540 almost 3 months ago.
    W530: Win 7 Pro, 24gb, 250gb SSD , 500gb HDD, Recovery Disks (Win7)
    W540: Win 8, 16gb, 500gb HDD, Recovery Disks (Win8)
As i did not like Win 8 , i want to install Win 7 on it. Can i use Win 7 Recovery Disks that came with W530 on W540?
I tried it but did not work for me. Got a blue screen (0x0000007B)
    Thanks you for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Good day.
You didn't mention Win8Pro, so I'll assume your W540 came with Win8Std (aka Win8Core). Some Win8Pro-licensed machines (not limited to the W540) came with Win7Pro downgrade rights, were imaged as such from the factory, and included Win8Pro recovery media. In any case, I'm not totally surprised that the W530 media doesn't work, technically.
If my assumption is correct, to accomplish what you're after, I believe you'll need to purchase a Win7Pro license.
    Hope this helps clarify.
    Regards.

  • T430s Recovery with Factory Recovery Disks

    Hello,
I have a T430s. My original hard drive is dying so I got a new one. Before swapping the hard drives, I created the factory recovery disks (1 "boot media" + 3 "data media"). After installing the new hard drive, I boot with the first DVD (the "boot media") and it only goes to the system image option. It tells me to insert the last DVD of the system image, but obviously I have the factory recovery disks, not a system image disk. So it doesn't recognize any of the three data DVDs as the "last DVD". There is no factory recovery option, it only goes to the system image option. How can I restore to factory settings with my DVDs on my new hard drive? Do I have to use a CD/DVD to boot into R&R somehow, and if so, how?
    Thanks!

There is no "full recovery " option. Do you mean to say factory image recovery instead?
When you run a recovery, make sure that you connect the usb recovery media to a usb 2.0 port if one is available.

  • Confused with created Recovery disks

I had to make up the 2 recovery disks as stated in the handbook and I had to use them this morning, but I only had to use 1 so why create 2 and do you have to use the the 2nd one at all.
I thought the computer would go back to 64bit as pre-installed but when I checked it was only 32bit.

You can use second one if asked.
I don't know which notebook model do you have but if it was offered with 32 and 64bit OS I can imagine by recovery creation 2 discs were created for both versions.
When you start recovery procedure with disc1 is there option to choose between 32 and 64bit OS?

  • T500 with XP recovery disk attempting to downgrade from Win7 64bit to XP

I need to install a particular client that has not been certified on Windows 7.  As such, I need to downgrade to XP.  Do you know if the XP recovery disk that is offered is a 64bit version of XP?

Good suggestion Bananaman, and I will certainly attempt it.  It will most likely be the first step I take.  However, it still wouldn't solve my problem at its heart.  It's not the "getting it to work" portion that is the issue.  While I might get it to work, it would be on a system with a "mode" that has not been certified.  However, XP64 has been certified.  Therefore a clean install might be the only way to go.  As such, I still need to know if the disk included is a 32 bit XP or 64 bit.

  • Using Bootcamp with 2 hard drives in MBP

I'm going to install a second hard drive in my laptop. Here is what I have and what I'd like to have...
    My current setup:
    750 GB hard drive
    Partition 1- Everything Mac related
    Partition 2- Windows 7/BOOTCAMP
    The setup I'd like:
60 GB SSD- Mac OS, Mac Applications
    750 GB hard drive
Partition 1- Everything else Mac related
    Partition 2- Windows 7/BOOTCAMP
Can this be done? If bootcamp is already installed on a partition on the 750 GB hard drive, can I just pop the new SSD in, install Mac OS X, and use the previous Mac partition from my larger drive (partition 1) for Mac files? Or will I need to reinstall Windows 7 to get it to work properly with the newly installed Mac OS X?
Thanks a lot for the help!

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.
Having a sufficiently large enough backup drive doesn't prevent this problem but it can help provide a longer period of time before the problem occurs.
If this is something of concern for you then you should opt to use a different type of backup utility and a different backup strategy.
