Use bootcamp with vista

How can I find out what version of Bootcamp i have? I want to partition drive and load Windows Vista, which BootCamp says only Windows 7 is supported. But  my old PC runs with Vista and Lynx Mint and runs great. The question has anyone install Vista in Bootcamp enviroment?

1. Select the Boot Camp Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and choose Get Info from the File menu.
2. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't allow Windows XP or Vista to be used when creating a Boot Camp partition, but support existing ones.

  • Use BootCamp with HP Recovery Disk

I want to use bootcamp on my MacBook. I own a HP Desktop. I have the Recovery Disks that came with the Computer (XP operating system). I also have also bought a vista upgrade from Microsoft. I tried to use the recovery disks to install Windows on my second partition, but I always receive the "invalid CD, press any key to continue".
Is there a way to extract the Windows operating system from the recovery disks or can i use the vista upgrade to install windows on my second partition?

Forget about using those HP installation disks. That is not going to work. Please read *[_This Section_|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11889.html]* which indicates which version(s) of windows will work with Boot Camp. In short you will need a FULL RETAIL version of either Windows XP or Vista.
can i use the vista upgrade to install windows on my second partition?
There is a way to do that however it is not recommended by Apple. I am not sure if it is even ethical to do so. It appears to be a simple process. Please *[_Click Here|http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgradeclean.asp]* to see that process. I have not used this process and have no further information if you run into issues during installation.

  • How to install windows 8 using bootcamp with no optical drive

    Hi,
I have a mac book pro 17" late 2011 with Mountain Lion installed.
I have previously installed a windows 7 using bootcamp without an optical drive by creating an install disk as part of boot camp option.
I still don't have an optical drive.
The other day I removed my Windows 7 since I want to try Windows 8 but when I try using boot camp to install windows 8 it is asking for an optical drive and the option to create an install disk is not available anymore.
    Any idea on this issue?
    Thanks much

It should be straight forward and no different, except you are burning an ISO and that always needs to be done at slowest burn speed for any version of Windows.Otherwise it won't work (even if it manages to install it will fail on restart or some other point).

  • Using ipod with Vista Home Premium

    Hello,
This is the first time this grandma has posted to this forum. I have an older Windows XP desktop pc which only has 20G. I decided I wanted to use my ipod on my new laptop which is running Vista Home Premium because it has over 100G and it has more storage so I can now feel freer to download more audiobooks and music. There is a error message on the ipod "current user not administrator". Also have problems with where programs are located on ipod. For example, there are podcasts on the ipod but none show up under "podcasts" on the ipod. Help appreciated. Barb

I have same problem with my Inspiron 5150, Pentium 4.
iTunes ***** up most of my system memory. I was uploading one of my CD's and could do nothing else because the CPU was at 100%. This only started happening within the last month or two (note ; recent update) and I even tried reinstalling my OS thinking that would help. First thing I put back on was itunes- problem came right back.
    P.S> What is "iTunes helper.exe" and "iPodservice.exe"?

  • Using Bootcamp with 2 hard drives in MBP

I'm going to install a second hard drive in my laptop. Here is what I have and what I'd like to have...
    My current setup:
    750 GB hard drive
    Partition 1- Everything Mac related
    Partition 2- Windows 7/BOOTCAMP
    The setup I'd like:
60 GB SSD- Mac OS, Mac Applications
    750 GB hard drive
Partition 1- Everything else Mac related
    Partition 2- Windows 7/BOOTCAMP
Can this be done? If bootcamp is already installed on a partition on the 750 GB hard drive, can I just pop the new SSD in, install Mac OS X, and use the previous Mac partition from my larger drive (partition 1) for Mac files? Or will I need to reinstall Windows 7 to get it to work properly with the newly installed Mac OS X?
Thanks a lot for the help!

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.
Having a sufficiently large enough backup drive doesn't prevent this problem but it can help provide a longer period of time before the problem occurs.
If this is something of concern for you then you should opt to use a different type of backup utility and a different backup strategy.

  • I am using bootcamp with windows 7, and always is showing me that there is no networks, it says I don't have a driver for the adapter; therefore i keep installing it, and suddendly windows 7 doesnt recognized it.

I have a Macbook Air 13" (mid 2012), recently i installed windows 7 with my original disk and code. I downloaded all the drivers via bootcamp assitant, however everytime the machine keeps disconnecting spontaneously from the internet, and keep saying that there is not driver for the adapter.
    What can i do???

I install it according boot camp instructions. My thunderbolt adapter used to work fine with windows 7, but suddenly windows 7 did not recognize the driver of the adapter, and each time i install it, happens the same.

  • Missing space in bootcamp with vista

I installed Vista through bootcamp. I allocated 50gb of space. I have 4 auto cad programs installed at an average of 5 gb each. The Vista is about 11gb or so. That brings it up to about 31gb. I installed office and the C drive is showing that i only have 951mb of space left. When i click on the c drive and highlight everything in it and click properties it only shows like 35 gb of space that that stuff is taking up. Where is the other 15gb going to? I have no clue.

    Hi,
you might wanna use TreeSize Free http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml to find out what is eating up your diskspace.
As for the swap file GeekBoy mentioned I would leave it alone.

  • Accessing an iPhone backup from OSX using Bootcamp with XP

    Hi guys,
Something has gone horribly wrong with the OSX partition on my Macbook Pro. It seems like something has become corrupted, and I can no longer reboot into OSX. I can however continue to use my XP partition and can access all my files from there. I'm planning on eventually backing up all the data, and just doing a complete reinstall but I'm heading off to the states from the UK in 10 days and need to restore my iphone to a backup I had on the mac partition - it contains all my US contacts and data. Is there any way I can access the backup via bootcamp?
    Thanks,
    James.

  • How do I install Windows 8 on Mountain Lion (mac mini) 2010 Server using bootcamp with out Optical Drive?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini server running 10.8.4 (12E55).  I just bought a brand new copy of Windows 8 from micrsoft.  I have tried using boot camp and it will not recognize a burned DVD in my remote optical drive on my laptop running windows 7 or my macbook running Lion 10.7.5.   I have had Microsoft on both of my computers remoted in for about 8 hours and they tried just about everything that I've tried.
Microsofts tech support has made me a bootable DVD and a bootable Flash Drive through remote desktop (awsome good job microsoft tech support).  I have even tried formatting my mac mini's second 500GB hard drive to FAT32 using this whole disc as my windows partition.  I know that when I go to install windows 8 it is going to reformat the drive to NTFS but all the articles that I've found, say this is what you have to do to get the drive formatted properly to get the ball rolling and get windows will fix it when it goes to install by reformatting to NTFS.
Ok so right now I have my second 500GB hdd on my mac mini formatted to FAT32 and I have tried to reboot holding my option key like I do on my mac book.  If I want to boot to a different hdd on my macbook all I do is hold the OPTION key during start up and you get prompted to choose one of the bootable disc that is on your computer.  Well if I put my USB drive which is bootable on my macbook into my macbook and do this right now its not showing up.
Now I just put the DVD that they made me in my macbook and it shows up as bootable disc.  But the USB doesn't.  (1 hour later)  I just got microsft to remake the USB drive and am going to try that again so ta ta for now and I'll come back on to post to tell you if it works.

Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox are available from their respective sites. Read their installation instructions which explain how to install Windows.

  • Using iPod with Vista

My brother's Mac has died and he was forced to buy a PC for the short term. He is working in Europe for 2 years and there is not a lot of support for Mac over there. He has installed iTunes onto the PC and want to connect their iPods to recharge. They receive a message about switching from Mac to PC. The question I have for him is "Will they lose all of their songs etc. when they connect to Vista now as opposed to Mac?"

    Hello, Welcome to Discussions.
If your friend just wants to charge the iPod but not Sync it he will be fine and will not loose any music unless he agrees to sync it with another machine and erase and sync. If this occurs he can only sync with this machine till he gets back home. At which time he will need to erase and Sync again to communicate with this machine.
If your friend has iTunes Store content on his iPod he can transfer these purchases to the Mac so he can sync back and fourth and charge the iPod as well. Please keep in mind if there is non itunes store purchased content it will not sync to the new computer.

  • No sound using bootcamp with windows 10 and yosemite

    Hi,
I've just installed Windows 10 preview on my iMac Retina with Yosemite.  Everything works great but, I have no sound when using windows, I do have sound when on Yosemite.  I've looked and still haven't found a working solution, any help would be appreciated?
       Thank you. Jerry

No it's still there.  It's coming from my iMac speakers only on the windows side.  But if I play music through YouTube I hear the music through the headphone jack external speakers.  But that **** sound won't go away.  Did a repair lost all my sounds again.  Just did another repair and that sound came back.
I went into sounds and turned them off and the sound went away...I listened to every sound there before I turned it off and none of them sounded like the sound I was getting.  At least I can still hear my music through external speakers.  I'm totally confused.  Hopefully you'll have more for me?
        Thanks Jerry

  • Can i use use bootcamp with a windows 7 upgrade disc?

I have the upgrade disc, will that work instead of having to buy the full windows 7 disc?

32-bit version only sees 3.5 GB RAM.  Running Windows under VM (virtual machine) software it could work as you need to save RAM for OSX.
64-bit sees 16 (Home) or 192 (Pro) GB RAM.  As a "future investment", 64-bit makes more sense to me, and makes sense if you plan to run under BootCamp (uses full RAM on the machine) instead of VM.
And if your system can hold more than 16 GB RAM, 64-bit pro makes the best sense.
But that is just pure numbers and my opinion.  It does not take your current budget into consideration.

  • Anyone  using bootcamp and Vista on there new Imac

Just curious how it runs. Nice to have both worlds.

You can't install an OS version that is earlier than the OS that comes pre-installed on the Mac. However, you should be able to run your old PPC apps by installing Rosetta (part of the OS X install, if you want it). I happily ran all my PPC AdobeCS apps this way, although the Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard installed.
