Use brush mask with another adjustment brick?

Hi. I'm pretty sure this is not possible, but I want to make sure and find out if anyone has a work-around.
Is there any way to re-use a mask created for one adjustment brick with another?
This would, IMHO, double the usefulness of the program. (I can't really understand why it is not included.)

You cannot from within Aperture but you can... if you feel like going into the guts of the library. The brush masks are stored as simple tiff files if you create and adjustment and brush any old mask the tiff file will be created - copy the mask you want to the same file name as the mask you just created and viola = reused mask. Not a simple and easy solution.
Much easier just to use PS IMO

  • Adjustment's brush strokes disappearing from adjustment brick.

    Good day,
    I am having a problem with the brush strokes from my skin smoothing and levels adjustments disappearing (perhaps others also but I haven't noticed those). I have spent a lot of time brushing in the skin smoothing on many images with great results. But twice now, the skin smoothing (and levels where I used those) adjustment's brush strokes have disappeared from the adjustment brick for all of the images. The brick still is there and still is checked on/active but no adjustment is being applied (since it no longer sees or contains the brush strokes). Somehow the internal link between the brush strokes and the adjustment brick have been broken, or the brush strokes deleted themselves en masse.
    Has anybody seen this behavior before? Any ideas on why this is happening and if I can re-connect the brush strokes to the images (assuming the brush strokes are still inside the Aperture database somewhere)?
    I just now upgraded to Aperture 3.1.2 from the most recent build (I upgrade regularly). The images are high resolution scanned from transparencies as 16bit tiff files. I use a managed library with no referenced images in the library. I have repaired permissions, repaired the database, and rebuilt the database with no positive results.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Nils

    Thanks for the suggestion and the quick reply too. I've tried it but it seems to only partially work in that I can stamp the first adjustment into a new version of the image and invert it. However I don't seem to be able to get it to stamp it as 2nd curve adjustment. It seems to overwrite the current curve adjustment, if there is one, or create it if there isn't one.
    Thus if there is a way to stamp an existing curve adjustment to a new curve brick that would do the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks again for the help.
    Best regards

    Thanks,  After changing my settings in face time per your suggestion, (it needed to be done),  I turned off cellular data and data roaming and made a call using face time.  It worked!  Great way to stay in touch while overseas without the need for those egregious phone data plans.

  • Using Auto Mask with brush

    I have watched tutorials on this and consider myself an advanced PC user but I am stuck here. When I read how other people use this tool, it shows them starting at a point on their photo then using the brush and the mask doesnt allow the brush to cover over different color areas than the one first selected. But..when I attempt this, all the photo sections are covered in the mask not just my starting point color...what am i doing wrong..how you can follow this.
    thanks

    From Lightroom news........
    The auto-mask controls
    The Auto Mask option cleverly masks the image as you paint with the Adjustment brush. It works by analyzing the color and tone of the area where you click with the Adjustment brush and only applies the effect to those areas that match the same tone and color.
    In response to the middle point comment, that would kind of defeat the purpose of the tool. The tool is only suppose to mask the starting color not surrounding areas. Thats why its suppose to be so great.
    check this out. http://lightroom-news.com/2008/07/31/auto-masking-in-lightroom-2/
    unless im reading this wrong, its suppose to work like i said above.

  • Can I Use Game Center With Another iPad User?

    Am I able to play a game simultaneously with another iPad user by using game center? For example, can we play a hangman game against each other from different locations if we do it through game center? And if so, how?
    Thank you.

    This is possible, however it is not as easy as that.
    If you want to allow someone to have access to a purchase you have made on your Apple ID, you must log into their device with your Apple ID and download that purchase..You would then simply log back out again.
    Every purchase you make with your Apple ID gives you the licence to store the purchase accross 5 devices.
    On the other persons device, go to Settings > Store > Apple ID > Sign Out.
    Sign into their device the same way, then go into iBooks > Store > Purchased, and download your book.
    Once downloaded, go back into Settings > Store > Apple ID > Sign Out, then sign back in with their Apple ID.

  • How to copy brush masks from one adjustment to another

    Thought the readers of this forum might like to read my recent blog post on the aforementioned subject, with complete step-by-step instructions.  I've been successfully using the technique outlined in the post for quite some time and finally got around to writing up a little tutorial.

    Hi Tina,
    To copy either a Script or a Smartform fron one client to another client i.e from reference client 000 to any client say 010  follow instructions as given below:
    Go to Tcode SE71->Give Form name MEDRUCK then go to Menu path Utilities->Copy From Client, give
    Form Name: MEDRUCK
    SOURCE:000 (it will be already there)
    Target Form: Zmedruck(here give ur form zname)
    Execute
    It will be copied into all languages.
    Then come back to SE71
    Give your form name Zmedruck
    Language:: de then goto change mode
    then menu path->utilities->convert original languge to En and enter you will get a message original language of form zmedruck converted from de to en,
    now  change language de to en in se71 main screen and then do what ever changes you want to do , this is how you can copy a script or smartform from one client to another client.
    If this answer is useful reward points any queries revert me back.

  • Problem using Brush tool with layer mask in Photoshop CC.

  • It seems a bug of as3 when using BitmapData.draw for a shape which is masked with another shape

    This is the code of my document class:
    public class FirstMask extends Sprite
      private var maskedShape:Shape;
      public function FirstMask() {
       init();
      private function init():void {
       maskedShape = new Shape();
       addChild(maskedShape);
       maskedShape.graphics.beginFill(0xff0000);
       maskedShape.graphics.drawRect(0,0,80,80);
       maskedShape.graphics.endFill();
       var maskShape:Sprite=new Sprite();
       maskShape.graphics.beginFill(0x000000);
       maskShape.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 20,20);
       maskShape.graphics.endFill();
       maskedShape.mask=maskShape;
       var bmd:BitmapData=new BitmapData(80,80);
       bmd.draw(maskedShape);
    When I do not use the bmd to draw the maskedShape,everything is ok.When I do that,it seems the maskShape is auto-transformed including its position and size.As a result,I can not see the maskedShape unless I adjusted the IE size.Can anybody tell me why?
    ps:If I set this.stage.align=StageAlign.TOP_LEFT; I can see the small scaled maskedShape.If I add the maskedShape to the displaylist ,everythis is ok.But Why drawing has the effect on the drawn shape?

    Thanks again.But the "draw" itself is all right.
    After " bmd.draw(maskedShape);",I code:
       var bm:Bitmap=new Bitmap(bmd);
       bm.x=100;
       bm.y=0;
       addChild(bm);
    The bm can be shown.
    So to make it clear,I print the screen:
    1.No"mask" No "draw" at all.
    2."mask" without "draw"
    3."mask"and then "draw"---the IE shows nothing
    4.If I drag the IE,adjust its size,then I can see a little thing on the top-left.
    confusing...
    PS:If I run the code as "air application",it seems all right.

  • How do I replace one vector mask with another?

    I have a template for a web site that I'm trying to figure out as I learn CS5.  The template has a vector mask created out of some writing that was converted into an object/vector mask.  I would like to replace with a layer I created that has different writing in it.  How would I replace the vector mask in the template with the new object I created?
    Thanks for any help you can give.
    Best -- Catherine

    • In the Layers Panel draw the Layer’s Vector Mask icon onto the trashcan-icon
    • move that Layer above the new Text Layer
    • invoke Create Clipping Mask (command-alt-G) from Layers Panel’s fly-out menu or alt-click on the line separating the two Layers’ icons

  • Using the TC with another wireless device - non-ethernet

    So I have an odd situation, and I'm hoping someone much smarter than myself can lend a hand.
    I live in Japan, and my internet is a little unusual.  My router now is a cell-style box with no plugs beyond the power supply.  It's through a company called eMobile, whom are nortorious for being the kind of company you don't want to work with.  Anyhow, this is where I get my internet signal from.
    I've bought a new MBP and a Time Capsule to go with it.  I am currently expecting to use the Capsule as a wireless backup, and no a router.  It strikes me that this will become a pain of having to switch between wireless signals for internet and backups.  I was hoping I could link the existing signal, from my eMobile router thing, throug my new TC, and use the Capsule to push out the signal from the other guy.  Reading around the web sounds like that's probably not going to work, but I want to check with the experts before I abandon hope.
    Speed is not a concern for me.  I don't do a lot of streaming or things of that sort, and this network has a bit of a choke problem anyhow.  I just want to be able to access the internet through my Time Capsule, but have that pull the actual signal from my no-ethernet-port-having router.  I'm happy to give more info about the eMobile box if it'll help, but I don't know what to look for as of now.
    Thanks to anyone who looks, and happy New Year.

    Unfortunately your investigation is correct.
    The TC does not work in the way you would like it to.
    You can join it to the wireless network of the emobile. no-ethernet-port-having router
    It will be available via the network but at half the speed.. because of double hop wireless and totally reduced to a mere client.
    See instructions here.
    Join a wireless network.. in v6 utility.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5719954?tstart=0
    The alternative is to use ethernet.. even if your new MBP is also no-ethernet-port-having computer
    Apple sell a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.
    You can run ethernet and wireless simultaneously without having the TC connected to the internet.
    See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4817218?tstart=30
    You can also buy a cheap USB wireless stick and plug that into the laptop.. obviously you need to buy a mac compatible one.. and then use the stick for the internet.. and use the internal wireless for link to the TC.. or that is how I would recommend as the speed is going to be needed in local network and will not be much on the internet emobile box.

  • Using the iPhone with another SIM???

    Hi,
    I am really considering getting an iPhone 3GS at the weekend. However I was wondering if it would be fully operational using a sim card other than the one given with it. I know it will be locked to the network but I dont know if its a special sim or whatever. Basically I work for a phone company and I get a unlimited everything package through them so I was going to get the iPhone on pay g and use my sim card. But if i cant access iTunes etc then I dont think I'd bother.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    When you switch SIM cards, you need to re-activate the iPhone (via iTunes). So, you'd need to re-activate when you swapped SIM cards, but it's possible as long as can sync with iTunes and are using a SIM card from the same carrier your iPhone is locked to.

  • Can i use imac screen with another comp?

    hi all - can i use my imac screen with my g4 powermac?
    I like to run it but my old monitor is big and ugly - be nice to feed into my sexy g5 imac screen
    advice - as ever - appreciated
    dc/uk

    I don't think so. You could use Remote Desktop, but it would be slow and annoying, and it costs more than a decent 19" ViewSonic.
    But that would be nice. I'd love to run even my iMac G4 into my wife's iMac G5 screen.

  • Is there a way to add an outline to a shape made using brush tool with Actionscript 3.0?

    I'm animating a character. I've made body parts by making a rectangle, removing the line outline, then adding extra sides by holding the Alt key and dragging out to make the shape I desire. I prefer not to make all the shapes I make into symbols because I want to 'Shape Tween' certain parts. One thing I do want however is an outline on that shape, but not the 'Line tool' type of line if that makes sense? An outline that is made by another shape by use of code! Can this be done?

    Have you tried the ink bottle tool (click and hold the Paint Bucket and you should see it)?
    Note that you can't reference objects through code that you can't refer to. You may be able to dig through the display list and find the Shape and apply code to it, but I think that Shapes get combined and composited in ways you might not expect. In addition, you may find that Shapes get replaced while animating.

  • Using mac firewall with another antivirus

    can I use the mac firewall(from system preferences) with the sophos antivirus program? will they crash or something go wrong if I used both?

    You only need one firewall and while they aren't going to crash anything I've seen people running multiple firewalls, each one configured differently, resulting in a confusing mess of websites not loading, chat not working, etc. Choose one or the other.
    Personally, the only virus protection I use is common sense and ClamXav - an open source program. It doesn't have lots of bells and whistles but in the Mac world (at least for now) those bells and whistles aren't needed.
    Use common sense, avoid warez and pron sites where malware is most likely to live, and think before you give the go-ahead to install a program. 20+ years of Mac ownership and I've yet to see a single virus or piece of malware on my computer.

  • I just downloaded Aurora, but I hear that using it along with another version could damage my profile?

    I have a desktop computer and a laptop. I have installed Firefox 4 on both, but today I decided to install Aurora on the desktop computer and I plan on installing Nightly on my laptop. My plan is to use the newer versions as my default browsers and resort to Firefox 4 if a site isn't working. I have Sync set up to sync everything across the two computers.
    I have read on multiple websites that since each version uses the same profile, very bad things could happen to that profile if you use different versions on the same machine.
    Is this true for my situation? Would my bookmarks or passwords or anything be lost or damaged? Will Sync sync my information to all of the different versions?
    For example, is it ok to run Nightly on my laptop and Aurora on my desktop and use Firefox 4 when needed and have Sync sync my passwords and other information?
    I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your help!

    Thank you cor-el for those links! I have decided that I do not want to run Nightly anymore after reading that it could destroy my profile information or crash my computer.
    Honestly, do you think Aurora will cause any damage to my profile if I use it with my day-to-day profile that contains all of my important information? Keep in mind I would be using Aurora on both computers that are set up to synchronize and then using Firefox 4 if ever needed. I've been running the betas for Firefox 4 and also using 3.6 when needed with my normal profile and there was never any corruption, so why would that happen with Aurora? Wouldn't Mozilla warn us? I do not want to set Aurora up to use a different profile. If that is dangerous, I will uninstall it and just use betas and final releases across my machines. But I would love to test the newest features and provide suggestions for improvement, but I need to use my same profile.
    What do you suggest I do?
    Thank you!
