Use camera zooms only in nested comps, not parent comp?

I recently received some advice on a project where I was having some vector art pixelization problems during camera zooms--I was told that camera zooms should not be made in the main comp, but that instead, they should be made in the precomps (or nested comps) to avoid this pixelization problem. It seems to me that AE should be able to propogate clean, illustrator vector graphics during camera zooms, all the way up to a main comp, through the use of the "continuously rasterize" and "collapse transformation" options.. but perhaps this is not so?
can anyone elaborate on this issue?

If vector images are set to continuously rasterize you can scale them or push the camera into them as far as you like with no problems. If certain effects have been applied to your eps or ai files they will be rasterized when imported into AE so they will behave exactly like a raster image. There's nothing you can do about that. Turning CR on or off will have no effect. If CR isn't fixing the pixelization issues then you've applied a layer effect somewhere in the chain that's causing the image to rasterize. Sometimes these problems can be fixed by pre-composing and doing the scaling in the pre-comp (layer effects). Sometimes they can't. Most of the time, if the problem is in the Illustrator file you can fix it by editing the original and removing the layer effects applied in Illustrator.
You can change the antialiasing quality of vector graphics in the file interpretation options from faster to more accurate. You'll find it under More Options.

  • Using Time Capsule only for back-ups, not as a modem

Hi, We have Comcast modem and router for internet connection. Is it possible to use Time Capsule only for Time Machine-generated back-ups of our Macs?
Is there any complication setting up TC for use as back-up only device?

You can use TC this way. And it's very simple to setup.
Check out the setup guide here:
I've just noticed that they've removed the section "Using Your Time Capsule on an Existing Wireless Network" from the new manual.
Anyway here is a copy of the text under that section in the old guide:
    To set it up:
1 Open AirPort Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities/ on a computer using Mac OS X,
and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows), select your Time
    Capsule, and then click Continue.
2 Follow the onscreen instructions to join your current wireless network.
3 After your Time Capsule is set up, you can use Mac OS X Leopard to set up Time
Machine to back up the Mac OS X Leopard computers on your network. See “Using
Time Machine with Your Time Capsule” on page 27 for more information.
If you’re using an earlier version of Mac OS X, or if you’re using Windows, you can
connect to Time Capsule to share or back up files.

  • How do I use "Flip" Effect only on one JPG not on Background and JPG?

Hi I'm a pro editor (but still reletively new) and trying Pro10 I'm using a green screen. Have my guy in front of a background and want to use the "Flip" movement transition.  It seems to literally "grab" the background and flip it too.  How do you have "Flip Transition" only effect the clip I attached it to and not mhy background which I want to be stationary?  I tried "disable" on the background and that was not it... the manual doesn't explain much.  Thanks so much!

y-e-a-h... that background isn't from anything in FCPX -- it's part of the effect (created in Motion 5).
I put in a checkbox to turn it off for you.
Still might not yield the results you expect.

How can i display the image and the audio on airplay.  It only shows the audio when I use airplay.  Please need help.

This is usually due to the app not allowing video to airplay for nebulous rights reasons.

I watched videos online that show that I should be able to view my ipad2 home screen and apps while I'm video mirroring on my television but I can't see anything (only hear the audio) except when I play videos or watch youtube and use apps that have the TV Out function...Is there anyway to fix it?

I mean I can only view videos that I play on my TV from my Ipad2 but other than that I can't see my Ipad home screen on TV or any other apps that I open, though I can hear the audio. I'm using a component cable. I thought that I should be able to view my home screen etc with the cable?

i upgraded to 3.0 and then downloaded camera zoom app it do's not work apple said i to delete it and redownload it if that do's not work contact the maker he said they put a update out but apple needs to prove it frist . that can i do???

Thanks for the pointer on the wired Mic, in all my efforts to make the application work with bluetooth, I completely forgot about the most obvious solution.
Can't see the forest for the trees.
As for writing in Caps, I have to admit I never really paid much attention to caps or no caps. I simply typed and if I hit the lock button I continued on.
Your observation and willingness to share your observation with me is greatly appreciated. I honestly didn't know the implication or perception of typing in all Caps. It is not nor was it my intention to shout. Sorry.
Again, thanks for taking the time to help

  • Camera zoom to certain spot

Hello all I have a large image in in a smaller composition and I'm trying to zoom in on a certain spot but the camera zooms only on the center. I tried moving the anchor point but that didn't work. Is it possible to zoom in wherever you want to without position keyframes?

If you're trying to animate the camera zoom control you have two options. First, have the camera orientation set to point of interest. Now the point of interest points to the center of the frame. Change the position of the point of interest and you change the framing of the zoom. It is difficult to see and animate this point. You can simplify the process by attaching the point of interest of the camera to a null using an expression. Simply hold down the Alt/option key and click the stopwatch variable for point of interest in the timeline and then drag the pickwhip to the position property of a 3D null.
The second option is to have the camera orientation turned off and use the orientation or rotation controls to point the camera where you want it to look.
Neither of these options is as easy as simply animating the position of the camera. Information on basic expressions, camera orientation and animating in 3D space is in the help files.

  • Help! - How to create nested comps with AEGP suites

I want to be able to create a nested composition....I know that when you create, let's say, comp 1 and then a separate comp 2 and then drag comp2 into comp1, comp2 becomes one layer in comp1. Comp2 would be called a "precomposition"
So I want to be able to do this in my program, using AEGP calls...I tried just adding a composition as a layer to another (parent) composition, like footage is added as a layer to the current comp.
There was another post that talked about using the Collection suite, but I'm not sure how to actually use it to implement a nested comp.
I tried getting a collection from the comp I want to be nested, setting the current (parent) comp's selection to be the nested comp's collection, and tried the DoCommand(2071) to precompose the collection, but obviously this didn't work because it doesn't really make sense to do that, haha.
Intuitively I wanted to call AddLayer from the current comp, passing in a child comp to be added as a layer. Adobe told me item cannot be added as source to layer so the way to do this must be more subtle than I thought.
If I have to use collections, do I make a collection out of the current comp and add subsequent comps to the collection? That doesn't make sense either. How is a nested comp added as a layer to another comp?
Can anyone help me? Email me if you have any suggestions: [email protected]

    Hi Sara,
I responded to your email, but just to follow up on the forum:
Say you've created two comps using AEGP_CreateComp.  That gives you two AEGP_CompHs.  To nest one comp in another, you'll first need to get the AEGP_ItemH for the nested comp, so use AEGP_GetItemFromComp.  You can now add the AEGP_ItemH of the nested comp as a layer using AEGP_AddLayer.  That should do the trick.  And AEGP_ReorderLayer if needed.

  • To safe a photos in Photo folder after using camera

My iPhone 4 finished to safe a photos in Photo folder after using camera. To renew all system - not help. What can I do to correct?

I'm not sure why, but I've also noticed that clips on the viewer don't show up. You can work on them, however, by moving the clip to the timeline. Once its there and selected, it will show up in the Ken Burns window when you click on photo.
    Hope that helps.

If restarting Mac or reinstalling OS X does not correct this symptom, you likely have a hardware problem.  Contact Apple Support or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Mountain Lion bug:  Switching between virtual desktops not possible when using external screen only.

I think I have found a bug.  I upgraded to Mountain Lion last week, 2 days after ML became available.  My laptop is a Macbook Pro from November 2011.  I ran Lion before and I did an upgrade on my laptop (not reinstall, but upgrade).
I have an external HP screen (24 inch) connected using DVI (standard connection). I also have an external Apple keyboard (bluetooth) and the external trackpad (bluetooth). I concider myself as a power user with long experience.  I started using multiple desktops in Snow Leopard, and really liked the "4 finger swipe up" that came in Lion.  By swiping 4 fingers up on the trackpad, I can see all "virtual desktops" on the top of the screen and select or more applications to the different screens.
This function does still work, but when I put the Macbook pro in "clamshell mode" (meaning the lid is locked and I am ONLY using the external screen), then this does not work.  When I do the gesture (4 finger swipe up), the virtual desktops on top of the screen are not shown.
But if I open the Mac and then having 2 active screens, both the internal LCD on the Macbook Pro and the external HP screen, it works again.  It does not matter which screen the "Finder many" is active on.
Picture below show how it is supposed to work.  And it still works if no external screen is connected or if the external screen connected but the lid on the Mac is still open (not clamshell mode).
This is how it looks on the external screen when I do the "4 finger swipe up" and the Macbook Pro is in clamshell mode (lid down).  Please also note how the background image is not minimized in the same way as before.
Have any other experienced the same problem ?  Where do I report this to Apple ?  Any e-mail or WEB pages where I can report bugs ?

As an update, I tried switching the main display to the MBP. Nothing changed.
However, I changed the rotation to 90 degrees and everything is back to Normal! Aside from the fact that I'm looking a 24" screen in the vertical position.

That button is not the Save As button, really, but a link to the DNG converter. To save your raw file in an image format, click the Open button instead and then save in the format of your choice in the editor. • Use camera from pre-comp without collapsing comps

    I'm facing a problem that I can't solve.
    Hope you can help.
I have a huge composition with some precomps, imported from photoshop, with blending modes etc.
Everything is working fine, but in one of the precomps I turned the layers 3d, and added a camera.
On the precomp it works fine, but when I go to the main comp, nothing happens. I solved the problem
collapsing pre-comps, but the thing is that I lose all the blending modes of my elements.
Any idea of how to keep my blending modes and also use the camera from the pre-comp?
(The pre-comp is a graphic with a much bigger resolution, that I need the camera to zoom-out)
    Thank you.

My pre-comp works fine, when I say nothing happens, I mean there is no camera movement on the main comp as in the precomp.
If I move the camera to the main comp, and lights, The pre-comp gets the movement I want, but doesn't get rid of the resolution size of the pre-comp.
But I think that shoul do the trick if I increase the size of the precomp.
Thank you guys for all the help
