Use CCC to clone a old environment to a new mini, but got a prohibited sign during booting

Hello everyone
I am trying to move the old environment from my old mini to a new one. I use CCC lastest version and make a bootable clone in a external hd. However  when I booted from the external hd on the new mini. I can see the copy i made, but after  i clicked it , the screen show a prohibited sign on a grey background.
Here is the detail info of my two mini
The old one
OS X 10.7.5 Lion
Processor 2.3 GHZ  intel
I think it is around two years old
The new one
OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion
Processor is from intel too
The external hd I use is Lacie Porsche Design P9220<= I already tried to use it to boot on the old mini, it worked. so I guess that this won't because  this hd can't boot in Mac machine.
Can I move the old environment to the newer machine  by using CCC? Because the old one is for building software we hope that we don't need to config again.

I saw some discussion like "downgrade ML to Lion..."
Why  could  it be done?
I have no idea why anyone would want to. Lion conveys no advantages over Mountain Lion, and Mavericks offers even more improvements. I can think of no reason to keep Lion or Mountain Lion, when Mavericks performs so much better on any hardware that can run Mountain Lion.
So..If I make several partitions on my old mini hd and install different version of X OS ex Lion, ML, Mavericks then It won't be a problem to boot from those partitions right?
Correct. If your old Mini is only two years old it can run every OS released since it was built. Install different OS X versions on each parition and use Startup Manager to select which one to boot.
There is no reason not to upgrade both of your Minis - attempting to downgrade the newer one makes no sense and isn't going to work anyway, and makes even less sense if you're developing software. No one is going to want software that isn't compatible with the latest operating system.

  • I am using migration assistant with my old MacBook and a new iMac but I'm just getting a swirling bar and spinning wheel. No signs of any progress after an hour. Drive is about 250 gbs.

The old MacBook says "the other mac is ready" and the new iMac says "successfully connected to other Mac. They are connected via Ethernet. Shouldn't there be some sort of indication of progress?   It just looks like they're stuck.
    Thanks!

  • How can I clone my old macbook to my new Macbook Pro 768GB SSD

    Hi,
I have a 2 year old macbook and have just received my new Macbook Pro Retina dispaly with a 768gb SSD.
How can I clone my old drive to my new Macbook as the unit is sealed so I cant ge the drive out.
    thanks.

Bootable clones can only be used with the same model machine as there are machine specific hardware drivers involved that are different between different models of Mac's.
Probally the fastest way would be to clone the old Mac boot drive to a external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then connecting it to the new Mac and booting the new Mac (first time) into Setup Assistant and then use that to "migrate" accounts and programs over. Takes a few hours.
Transfering via Wifi does take FOREVER. like several days in some cases.
If you have the new Mac already setup, then use Migration Assitant in the Utilities folder.
However Setup Assistant and Migrations are not perfect and tend to fail badly if you had problems on the older Mac, sometimes these problems are unseen and only until you try to use the new Mac afterwards do they appear.
You might want to opt instead of installing the same name account on the new Mac, installing 10.8 compatible programs from original sources and then use the external clone of the old Mac drive to transfer just user files manually into the same Pcitures, Movies, Documents etc., folders.
Since you have a SSD, you can load programs later, it's hard drives that you want to install programs before user data to run them faster.
Get a cleaner machine doing it manaully that way and you know there is nothing nsaty hidden, like what Setup Assistant and Migrations often transfer.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's the classic behaviour after using Migration Assistant and that's normal.
To transfer the data from the new user account to your old user account, you can follow some steps. Here is all the information you need to do this > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

    using migration assistant is problematic.
at this point yes, you should uninstall everything migrated, clean and then reinstall properly using the installation files.

I would like to copy all the songs from one Ipod into another. All the songs are into my Itunes account, I tried to drag and drop the songs from the old Ipod to the new one but it doesn't work. Is there a way to do it ?
I share one Itunes account with other people from my family and one person would like to keep the same songs on the new Ipod as the ones which were on the old one.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Hello Chris,
Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for an easier answer. Too bad there is no drag and drop solution, it would have been much easier.
    Thanks for answering so fast.
    Bye.

How can I import not only apps from the old iphone to the new iphone, but also the content of the apps?

You can sync apps as you normally would, but I do not believe this copies over app specifc data (i.e. saved game status/scores).
You can always restore your new device with a backup from your old device.

  • Cant use CCC to clone Snow Leapord mac to Mountain Lion mac

    hello all,
I just bought a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 not retina), and it came with Lion OSX. I recently installed Mountain Lion OS and it appears to be working welll except I am having trouble using a cloned external drive. I cloned my 2007 MacBook (Snow Leapord), using CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner), onto a Seagate 320GB eternal USB Hard Drive. When I plug the drive into my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion, and go to system Preferences, startup disc, select the coned drive, and click restart, the computer shuts down and appears to be starting to restart, but it just stays on the white screen before the apple symbol shows up and the apple symbol never even pops up, it just stays white forever without booting up. Now, I tried using the drive as a startup disc for my dad's 2008 MacBook Pro with Leapord and it worked like a charm and also tried it on my sister's MacBook Pro (Lion) and it worked fine there too. Is there something about mountain lion that could be causing this problem? I even tried using Target Disc from my old mac (that i cloned) to my new one and it wasnt working either. If anyone has any ideas, please help! Are there any particular tricks to using CCC for Mountain Lion? Thanks for the help!!!

Thanks that makes sense, however, my sisters Macbook pro worked with it and hers is a 2011 and came with Lion, so I'm not sure what to make of that.
Right the Early 2011 model MBPs came originally with Snow Leopard installed and Apple updated SL to 10.6.8 to work correctly with the newer hardware in the Early 2011 models. Then in June Lion came out and then all shipping MBPs came with Lion Pre-Installed but they would still run SL if you had the 10.6.8 version of SL. Since the Late 2011 models were basically the exact same computer, just upgraded CPU and some other minor changes, as the early 2011 models even though the late 2011 models came with Lion Pre-Installed SL would work on those if you had the 10.6.7 or .8 version of SL.
Now with the newest Mid 2012 models all of the Base hardware was changed to the most current versions available, New hardware. Even Lion that worked on the late 2011 models will NOT boot on the Mid 2012 models.
The 2011 version/build of Lion does not have the correct driver package to work on the new hardware.
Apple put together a Special build of Lion to work on those newest system with an updated driver package for the newer hardware.

  • Using old iMac Screen on new Mini

My trusted old iMac G4 700 (dome base) is just too slow these days, but I still love the design. The screen is also very adjustable and can extend to a comfortable working height.
Is there any way in which I can couple this with a new mini, ie. just use my old screen and some how connect to the mini, bypassing the old system base ?
    Darren

Your best bet for quick and correct answer to this question is to post in either the iMac G4 forum, or the Mac Mini forum. This is the forum for the iMac Core Duo.
