Use Discoverer with Olap Cubes

Hi, is there any one that know how work Discovere with Olap Cubes?
Thanks

hi
if you mean the cubes (rolap/molap), which the bibeans are working on it is a yes/no
for molap cubes:you use the olap table to build a virutal star on top of the analytic workspace, which is then queryable by any relational cube, including discoverer
for rolap cubes:not (yet)
having said that:watch the announcements during oracleworld

  • Using Discoverer with Remedy

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if you can use discoverer with a remedy database or any other sort of database other than Oracle ?
    Cheers
    Sandy

    Hi Sandy.
I believe it's possible, depending on the version you want to use.
If you plan to use Discoverer web based versions (Plus and/or Viewer), then You'll need OracleAS.
There's more than one way to have discoverer with non-oracle databases, so, read this...

... and choose wich one you like better.

  • How to reduce CPU Utlisation while working with OLAP Cubes?

    Hi All,
I am working on OLAP cubes on MS SQL Server 2005. I have imported the same in the OBIEE rpd and when I query it in answers, the CPU Utilisation increases to 98%.
So the results also take pretty much time to get displayed.
Is there any other method with which I can reduce the CPU usage?
    Regards,
    Apoorv

Sorry, but that's like asking "My Data Warehouse is slow! What can I do?!".
Starting from the top of the food chain it depends on:
    - how your report is built
    - what the logical SQL is that this report fires against the BI server
    - your logical business model
    - your physical model in the rpd
    - whether you use BI server aggregation or external aggregation for the cube source columns
    - the structure of your cube
    - whether your cube is pre-aggregated or not
    - whether you did any performance tuning or your cube
...and tons of other things. I can query 5 dimensions with thousands of dynamic and shared members against dynamic accounts (not stored) without performance impact if I'm hitting an optimized cube (or area of my cube) but have > 1min performance for another comparatively simple query which queries a non-aggregated cube and does aggregation within the BI server (just as an example).
Start by verifying that your cube is nicely built.

  • Using Discoverer with SOA

    Hello
We are using Discoverer in some projects and we would like to know if Discoverer can be used from SOA as a service.
    Regards
    José Tirado

    Hi Paul
Let me take each question in turn.
    1. Do we have a standard discoverer EUL similar to the one which we get for Oracle EBS for Seibel? I guess not but still worth asking. The answer, as you suspected, is no. There is no standard EUL against Siebel, although to build one would not be that difficult to someone experienced in doing so. I have built EULs against several databases that don't already have EULs. All I need is someone to show me the existing tool's metadata and and I can take it from there.
    2. Is any one aware if Discoverer can directly leverage the Business rules set in Seibel without having to set up new business areas/EUL? Once again the answer is no. Disoverer is not able to read the business rules inside Siebel. This would have to be done manually.
    3. Since the above 2 options are unlikely, is it possible to expose discoverer using the Seibel portal. Kind of like the SSO we can use with Oracle EBS or Oracle Portal. Again, sorry. The only portal that Discoverer can be exposed onto direct is the Oracle Portal using Discoverer portlets. This is set to change later in the year when Discoverer 11g and OBI EE 11g are out because then Discoverer's portlets will be more open source with even an interface to Interactive Dashboards. In the meanwhile, the best you could do would be to export Discoverer content to HTML or maybe to CSV format and display that on the Siebel portal.
In order to migrate Siebel metadata into a Discoverer EUL you need two skills. You need someone who understands the Siebel metadata layer, at least the presentation layer, and someone who is expert at putting together a Discoverer EUL. You may well have the first skills yourself or know someone in your company that does. There are several people on this forum who are expert in Discoverer, myself included.

  • Error while using RSCRM_BAPI with remote cubes

    Hi,
We are getting short dump while trying to use RSCRM_BAPI with hierarchies i.e.display hierarchies to extract data to a flat file.
We do get a warning that display hierachies are not longer supported in 2004s with RSCRM_BAPI and have been going on and on with SAP development.  They are saying we need to find alternatives.
I wanted to know if anybody has tried using display hierarchies with RSCRM_BAPI in 2004s if not then I would like to know what are my options in getting a flat hierarchy report on to a flat file?
I dont think infospoke supports flat hierarchy extracts as infoproviders dont store hierarchy information.
    Thanks

    Heres my thought -
to use Bex Broadcaster to download the information,am not sure if RSCRM_BAPI is replaced by new functionality ,might wait for SAP to confirm.
    <b>Key capabilities:-</b>
1)The right information:Based on BExqueries, views, workbooks, Web applications & enterprise reports
2)In different formats:HTML, MHTML, PDF, ZIP, printer formats, online links, SAP alerts…
3)To the right people:e.g., single users, groups, distribution lists, user-specific or role-specific (incl. non-SAP users)
4)In different channels:e-mail, Portal, BExPortfolio (unified access based on Knowledge Management folders), collaboration rooms, Universal Work List…
At the right time:event driven, exception driven, ad-hoc, scheduled

  • Using Discoverer with Oracle Portal - URGENT!!!

I need to setup Oracle Portal 3.0 with Discoverer 3i for a demonstration tomorrow due to a "this just came in!" from the management! ;)
What I would like to do it to display some sort of Discoverer portlet so anyone with a browser can access and view Discover results in a nice manner.
I have been told this is possible (by Oracle Denmark) but how....?!
Could anyone please email a step-by-step description if you know how to do this?
    Thanks!

If you don't check the "Connect to Applications EUL" option as described, Disco looks for a database user with the user name SYSADMIN, which you don't want (and probably doesn't exist).
An alternative is to put a : at the end of the user name (ie SYSADMIN:) which makes Disco treat this as an Oracle Applications user name, regardless of the connection options chosen. This should then prompt you to select the Oracle Applications Responsibility you want to use (assuming you have more than one). You can log directly into a specific responsibility by adding the responsibility name after the : (ie SYSADMIN:Disco Admin).

  • Using Discoverer with Oracle Apps

    Hi,
I have Oracle Apps vision instance on my laptop. I installed Discoverer Administrator and Desktop. But when I connect through Desktop, it only recognizes database users. When I check Application User check box still it did not recognize the Oracle Apps user 'SYSADMIN', the error message is 'Invalid username/password' which is a valid user and I could login to Oracle Apps using it and it has many responsibilities.
Is there a step I am missing to synchronize Apps users with database or Discoverer Administrator/Desktop so that I can login to Desktop using Apps user to create workbooks.
    Thanks,
    Suresh

    Hi Rod,
Thanks for the reply. At the time of creation of EUL it gives two options
    1. Grant Access to Public
    2. New EUL is for use by Oracle Applications users only
When I selected the second one I am not able to access it by any user from desktop tool but when I used the first option I can only login from Desktop using database users only not Appliations users, it gives error message 'Invalid username/password'. I dont see anywhere else I need to do something while creating EUL.
Please give me the insight into this.
    Thanks,
    Suresh

  • Is it possible to integrate relational data with OLAP cubes?

I have a web application that accesses cubes created from AWM via the OLAP API. I need to integrate a column from a relational table in the front application and display the column along side cube data.
Is there any way to achieve the functionality from the OLAP API?

Can you explain how the relational data source relates to the OLAP data, is it a master-detail relationship? If this is the case then you could consider the following:
    1) Depending on how you are displaying the OLAP data. If you are using a non-BI Beans presentation bean then if the keys are consistent across both data sources it should be possible to create two separate queries and glue them together using the common keys within your data source module.
    2) Alternatively, you create a custom text measure within AWM and then use OLAP DML to extract the detail data and load it into a multi-line text variable that could be retrieved via OLAPI. This might not work if there is a large number of rows within the text variable to retrieve as formatting the results within your application might get complicated. The OLAP DML Help contains a lot of excellent examples that will help you create a program that uses SQL commands to load data.
    Hope this helps

  • Using Discoverer with 4i

    Hi All,
I want to use the discoverer which comes along with the E-Business suite 11i. Can you suggest how can i configure the discoverer client.
    Thanks,
    Prashanth.

Before install, assure you have an Oracle client installed
    Install:
    1) Download "Oracle Business Intelligence Tools 10g (10.1.2.0.2) for Microsoft Windows" from here
    2) Execute setup.exe
    3) Remember the %ORACLE_HOME% used (ussually C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1)
    Configuration:
    1) Databases must appear in the %TNS_ADMIN%\tnsnames.ora
If you are trying to connect through an Applications database, also:
    2) Create a directory secure under %ORACLE_HOME%\discoverer
    3) Copy there the .dbc files of each Applications environment
    4) Define a system environment variable FND_SECURE=%ORACLE_HOME%\discoverer\secure
    5) Add to the regedit, in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oracle\Discoverer 10\Database, the following entries:
    a) EnableTriggers, type DWORD, value 1
    b) DefaultPreserveDisplayPropertyForRefresh, type DWORD, value 1
    6) Open Discoverer Administrator, go to Tools -> Options, and check "both" in the connect options
    7) Set the values of GWYUID and FNDNAM for Applications. These values are in the .dbc files, but ussually are: GWYUID=APPLSYSPUB/PUB and FNDNAM=APPS
    Helpfull?

  • Using discoverer with Oracle Text

I thought Discoverer would be able to intereact with Oracle intermedia/text indexes...can they? i.e. If there is an Intermedia Index, and the user know it is there but doesn't know the tags to query, can you point Discoverer to the index and it'll determine the tags avaiable to search on?

  • Oracle DB 10g and BI Discoverer for OLAP - Dimension Attributes

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Database 10g release 1 with partitioning, data mining and OLAP options and Analytic Workspace Manager 10.2.0.1.0A to create the multidimensional objects. For the user dimensions created using AWM we have custom attributes like HireDate, StartDate, Sales Personnel Role etc., For reporting purposes we are using Discoverer for OLAP. In this Discoverer version, I don't see an explicit provision to drag these attributes onto the worksheet. We are only able to filter based on these attributes and capture the measures...
Can someone throw light on this? Also, if there is a possibility to drag these attributes onto the worksheet can that be expounded?
    Thanks in advance!

Again this depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you define an attribute against a dimension it takes very little space as it is not directly connected to a cube and so no data is stored against that attribute.
If, however, you have a 4D revenue cube (product, geography, channel, time) with products attributes COLOR and PACK SIZE and you want to view revenue additionally borken-out by COLOR and PACK SIZE as well as the other four dimensions then your schema will require additional storage space. However, 10g compressed cubes and sparsity options do help to manage the explosion of data points as the number of dimensions increases. This should allow you to easily add attributes as dimensions into your cube.
One thing to remember is that most users start to struggle when confronted with more than 9 dimensions. So although Oracle OLAP can create extremely large dimensional models, users prefer their cubes to have 9 or fewer dimensions.
    Hope this helps,
    Keith

  • What are the OLAP cube data access auditing capabilities

    Hi All,
We are currently activating RDBMS fine-grained-audit (FGA) policies on our datawarehouse to comply with security policies in place in our company.

The confidentail data reside in fact tables that are also used to feed OLAP cubes.
Are there FGA capabilities (or similar) available to audit access to confidential data stored in OLAP cubes ?

  • How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

    Hi,
I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?
    Regards,
    Shahid

    Dear Shahid,
I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
    1. Basic Install
Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
    and OWSM.
    2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
    a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
    b. J2EE Server and Web Server
    c. J2EE Server
    d. Web Server\
According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.
Thanks very much in this regards.
