Use DW on laptop & desktop

I read here that one is allowed two activations of  Adobe CS4,( I have the suite w/ Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, etc.) and I have done that on my desktop and laptop. I am  thinking of buying a new laptop and will remove CS4 from my old one before I decide what to do with it-probably turn it in to Apple for recycle, or give to a relative. Of course I'll want to install CS4 on my new laptop. Will that be a problem?

First, use Help > Deactivate to free up the second activation in Adobe's eyes then uninstall it.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/514/cpsid_51482.html#deactivate
You should then be able to activate on the new laptop without issue.

I want to use my Time Capsule as a central 'hub/hard-drive' in order to keep all my working files in one place. I then plan to use my laptops/desktops as peripheral devices for editing and creation of these files. Is it possible? To create a personal cloud?
Can someone advise as to whether i can do the following:
Future Internet connection -------------------TIME CAPSULE (containing all files) -------------- Backed up on the WD 2T Hard-drive I have
(not connected yet)                                         I                                                          (*connected to timecapsule physically)
                                                                                                            I
                    I                                         I                                                I                                                              I                                                I
Macbook Pro                             iMac                                       HP (PC)                                             OLD Macbook Pro                         iPhone
(used for remote working)       (Used for home working)     (used for heavy CAD and rendering)    (not being used for anything at the moment)        (& iPods)
I am looking to have all my files in one place as i am hopelessly disorganised. I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)
    Kind Regards
    Joe

The diagram was supposed to look more like this......

I need to use the Windows version of Quickbooks Pro and I don't want to use Parallel or buy a PC tower or laptop. Can I use ASUS VM60-G072R Desktop (like Apple Mini) with my iMac all-in-one computer?

Thank you Kappy. I guess I have to decide to purchase a separate monitor and keyboard for this mini PC computer then. And also find extra space in my office. I'm happy you answered my question so quickly.

  • HT4527 I set up my iphone with my laptop but now its broken is there anyway of adding new song using anpther laptop/desktop computer without erasing everything currently on my phone?

I set up my iphone with my laptop but now its broken is there anyway of adding new song using anpther laptop/desktop computer without erasing everything currently on my phone? I have no access to my old computer and the songs on it are from cds not itunes purchases
    Please help!!

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Using Aperture via Remote Desktop

    Hi everyone,
I'll post this message in both the Aperture and Remote Desktop discussions.
I work for a photographer who's looking at doing some high volume shoots overseas. Budget doesn't allow me to travel with him so I want to find out how easy it would be for me to process images in Aperture via the internet and Remote Desktop.
Am I correct in thinking that once setup, and with both computers hooked up to a broadband internet connection, I'd be able to connect to his laptop and begin working with Aperture fairly easily? Sure, he'd need to import the images, but once that was done it'd be business as usual, right?
    Thanks for your replies,
    Andrew

    Andrew
I often use remote connections (either Mac to Mac using "Back To My Mac" or Mac to PC using Microsoft's "Remote Desktop Connection") but my experience is that these services are not 100% dependable...
I usually use remote desktop solutions between my 2 DSL connections, 1 at home and 1 in my studio. The smallest pipe I have either way is 4Mbps for my studio upload pipe (even this is not too shabby) but even though I control both ends of the connection I still cannot guarantee that the service is going to work. One day it does and the next it doesn't (or doesn't do so reliably)!
If the photographer for whom you work is going to be in public locations or locations where he does not have access to router settings (e.g. to ensure NAT is enabled) I think the safest assumption to make is that you should not rely on a remote desktop connection to be available.
As a professional photographer myself, I realise this may affect your workflow but assuming you both have broadband speeds it is probably better to share projects via a dropbox solution such as iDisk on MobileMe or DropBox...
    best

  • Using MBP As A Desktop

    Hi,
Can I "add a 27' display" to my MBP, and use it as a "desktop"?
"What will I need to purchase to link the "display" and the "MBP"? Can I find them online at Apple Store?
    Thanks.
    Ed

Yes you can use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse and keep the lid of the MBP closed, known as 'Clamshell Mode'. Or, you can just connect the external monitor and have it either mirror your laptop desktop or extended desktop (across both screens)
The adapter and cable required will depend on the exact inputs available on your monitor, VGA or HDMI or DVI-D are the most likely.
Check out the Apple Store options here once you know what the monitor has:

  • Using Powerbook as a desktop: HDD/battery heat bad for the display?

I'm planning on hooking up my 12" powerbook to an external monitor and use it as a desktop. The Powerbook's display itself is in 100% working order, and I would like to take it with me to use while traveling.
What I worry about is the heat from the HDD, the battery, and the fans - they get pretty hot sometimes when the computer's on. And since using the Powerbook as a desktop would require the display to be closed at all times, would the heat damage the display?
Please share any thoughts and/or experience you may have concerning this.
    Thank you!

Usually, the fans don't turn on when my lid is closed, but then again, I'm not doing the same thing you're doing, using it as a "desktop" with an external monitor.
What you can do is leave your lid open, designate the external monitor as the primary screen while the PowerBook's LCD screen becomes the secondary one. Then, you can dim the screen to "zero" on your PowerBook while the external remains on and the primary.
You do this by going to System Preferences and the Displays icon, and on the resulting screen--you have to be connected to your external monitor to do this--click on the "Arrangement" tab and you'll get a screen that lets you drag a bar from left to right.
This bar represents the menu bar and dragging it to, say your external is on the right, will make the square on the right your primary, while on the left side, the square will represent your PowerBook's display and become the secondary monitor.
Hope that made sense. Plus, I don't remember my PowerBook's fans running when I did try that once. Used the PowerBook connected to an external monitor while the display was closed and running as a "desktop." Any which way, closed lid or not, it's the same principal. The only thing you get is something unsightly if you don't like the idea of having your laptop out next to the display and keyboard. As opposed to tucking it away somewhere.

  • Laptop / desktop liscence version 4 ... uninstall 1?

I have a question about my liscence for version FCP version 4. I know that only 5 and up support a laptop / desktop liscence, but I really need FCP on my laptop because I will be working out of town.
If i uninstall the version I have on my desktop, will the laptop version start working? Will this work out or is there a deeper process involved? And if so how does my laptop recognize that one version is not being used anymore?

well, I had already installed it on my laptop not knowing about the agreement, and now it unexpectedly quits. I'm in another part of the country while my desktop is at my folks' place. Can i just tell them to uninstall FCP there, and my laptop version will start to work? Or is there a deeper problem / issue going on?

  • Capture laptop desktop

Is there a way to hook up a laptop to my G5 Mac Pro and capture what i see on the laptop desktop with final cut capture? I don't want to pay for any screen capture programs and the free ones don't look correct with the frame rates on playback. There's a mini-fire hookup with the laptop.
Is there a specific capture preset that i can create to make this work?

if its a one time thing, try and download the trial version of Ambrosia's Snap Pro Z.
i used it to record the onscreen playing of our ultrasound dvd. worked perfectly my use.

  • Control the monitor's brightness using powerdevil on pc desktop.

    Hello.
I,m very newbie using linux in desktop pc, before i,d used linux on laptops with sleep option available. Well, currently I am using linux on a desktop pc with external hdmi monitor, and I,m not able to control monitor's brightness using kde systemsettings powerdevil to increase or decrease monitor brightness, the brightness control just doesn,t show up in kde systemsettings
If i try to control monitor brightness using xbacklight command, this is what I get : No outputs have backlight property
If i go to /sys/class/backlight  the directory is empty   . I can use the monitor's built in controls to increase or decrease brightness, but I would love to know why I cannot do it using kde powerdevil or xbacklight like i used to in laptops.
    Regards.

Hi deggie and thanks for your reply. To cut a long story short, I simply went on Google and saved Picasa as a "favourite". Then it occurred that the sensible thing would be to get a free copy from iTunes..BIG mistake obviously. So I haven't got an app, because Apple won't talk to Picasa- (or vice verse or something..!) Drives me spare when the kids won't play together..
So in answer to my own question- yes, I can sync some programmes e.g. Google Docs, but NOT others (i.e. Picasa).
In desperation (!!) I decided to search out Apples version of Picasa -iPhoto. I gave up after half an hour as I simply don't have the free time to spend searching for the impossible!! (another nail in the coffin when it comes to buying an ipad next time..)
I did however have a bright idea that if I can share my photos through "Photos" maybe that's the way to go? If I access Picasa through the net on the ipad, and somehow transfer the images to "Photos", maybe that would work. So I'll spend a few hours trying that.
