Use external monitor w/ Macbook running Windows in Boot Camp?

Within the Mac OS, I close the lid to my Macbook and then hit the spacebar to then use an external 20" monitor. When running Windows within Bootcamp, I shut the lid of the Macbook, but cannot get the external monitor to show an image. How can I get my external monitor to work when using Windows XP within Bootcamp, once I shut the lid to the Macbook?

Hi,
As far as I know, while on Windows XP you have to do it "the microsoft" way! To switch displays, just press Fn + F7 until the image shows at the tv.. tell me if it worked (imho this way better than the "close the lid and touch the external mouse" trick)

  • Macbook Pro running Windows with Boot Camp, wanting to use iMac as second monitor.

I am using a Macbook Pro that is running Windows with Boot Camp. I want to connect it to my iMac so that I can use the iMac as a second monitor.
If it is not possible, I also have a TV that I could use using an HDMI, however when I tried this my Macbook Pro running Windows 8.1 did not detect it in the Display Settings.
What are my options? I just want to use my iMac or TV as a second monitor!!
    Any help is appreciated, tMachanks!

  • Help with using external monitor on MacBook

I have a white MacBook 2.1 running 10.5.8. I use to have it run a Samsung LCD 19" which had a 1280x1024 native res, which was available in the screen prefs. That broke, so now I was going to go bigger with a 24". I've forgoten how this works, but I see the specs show this book should do a max of 1920x1200 on an external monitor. However, I don't see that listed as an option in the prefs. Will that be listed if I hook up a monitor capable of that? Also... Most 24" monitors seem to be native 1920x1080. I want to run at the native res of the monitor and not have to do any stretching or anything. Do I need to find a monitor that has a native res of 1920x1200 to match the book's max res? Or will the 1920x1080 work somehow without stretching. I have the mini DVI to DVI adapter, so I assume I should be set for any monitor sold new now.
Thanks for any help. FYI... Don't buy Samsung... 3 1/2 years on an LCD is rediculous.

    Hi Dave,
Yes, the available resolutions will show when you hook up an external display.
Depending on the resolutions availabe on a given display, you may or may not be able to run it without stretching (or black bars) at native resolution (most likely you'll be able to).

  • Using external monitor with macbook pro?

Can someone tell me how to get my Dell desktop monitor to work with my MBPro?   I connected with usb/vga cable; i have a pic on the external monitor and the mouse pointer will move about the screen, but that's it; no funcitonality.   I don't know what do do next?   Settings?

It sounds like it's working perfectly, you have a functioning image and pointer. But you may be expecting to see some of your windows. It sounds like the monitor is connected in Extended Desktop mode, which means it's working as an additional area to your existing desktop, like sliding another table next to yours. So, if you want to see some windows and programs over on the new monitor, you should drag them there. Also, open your Displays system preference to see this and change settings.
If you expected to see the same image on both your monitors, you need to switch to Mirrored display. If there is a Displays icon on your menu bar, you can switch it there.

  • Can a mac running windows with Boot Camp be found by Find My iPhone

I'm running Windows on my MacBook Pro via BootCamp and I'm using the Find My iPhone iCloud app on my iPad. My MacBook Pro cannot be found by Find My iPhone, it's labeled as off-line, even though it's connected to the Internet.
So my question is this: is there a way for Find My iPhone to see my Mac while running Windows. Note, I've already got iCloud for Windows installed on the Windows side of my MacBook Pro (and Find My Mac turned on on the Mac side, and while on the Mac side, it's always found, no problem.)

When you iPhone is not connected to the Internet either through 3G/Wi-fi or because it is off then you cannot track it.
If FindMyiPhone is enabled, even if the iPhone is off or not on wifi/3G, it will still show in FindMyiPhone under Devices, though it cannot be located.
If it is not showing No Devices, FindMyiPhone is not enabled.
If it does show in Devices and shows Offline, FindMyiPhone is enabled but it is off or not on wifi/3G.
This is one way to remove the activation lock if you do not have the device. Delete it from FindMyiPhone in iCloud.

  • Antivirus for iMac running Windows with Boot Camp

I am running Windows on my Mac using Boot Camp. If I install an antivirus, will it protect me when I am logged into windows? Or do I need to install an additional antivirus when I am on Windows?

You only need anti-virus protection for the Windows environment, though this will likely bring out a fire storm of debate.
The most susceptible system is Windows so protect yourself there.

  • Printing to pdf when running Windows in Boot Camp

I have reluctantly installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Air (1.7 GHz, Core i5, 4 GB, OS 10.8.2). I run a simulation program which produces a report for printout. I would like to have the option of printing to pdf so that I can select pages for printing, change print quality and print additional copies of selected pages from the report.
The software developer advises using PrimoPDF. Is it possible to select this as the default printer in Windows so that the program prints to PrimoPDF automatically?

cute pdf for windows is free and acts as a printer and when printed to creates an pdf file

  • Can the illuminated keyboard be activated on the Mac Book Pro while running windows in boot camp?

Illuminated ket board only works when in OS 10. When switched to windows 7 it will nit light. How do I get it on?

    Volume check failed.
I'll expand on the last post a little.
Disk Utility cannot repair that error.
If Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand. It has repaired every little and big issue I have ever had with my three Macs.
If you have a good backup, hopefully a clone of your system before you had issues, an Erase and Install will also rid you of this issue. But, beware! You will lose everything on the drive with this procedure. Let us know if you need help with that!
    Good Luck! DALE
    p.s. Here's a rewiew of DiskWarrior 4.

  • Macbook Pro 15 Late 11 extreme fans noise when using external monitor

Dear Apple, recently I bought Macbook Pro 15 Late 11. I really love it's speed and new OS X Lion, BUT this Macbook really noisy when I use external monitor and keyboard. I work on external monitor all the time. I don't care about how hot my Macbook is when I'm on external monitor. Let it just be hot and quiet.
P.S. Example. I run Ableton Live and have 6200 RPM working on external monitor (awfully loud!). CPU 90% idle. When I switch off external monitor and use internal one, RPM drops down to 4500 with the same Ableton work session. By the way, I don't need cool graphic card. Apple, let our work days be quiet.

I did that and it didn't help. It's common problem with an external monitor. Here are some links:

  • GS70 Stealth Pro Crashes when using external monitor..

    Hi Guys,
I just bought a GS70 ghost pro a few weeks ago and have been loving it, no problems, running Battlefield 3 and watchdogs..
However I just bought an external monitor, Asus VG248QE, when i connected it via display port and tried to play Battlefield 3 on the external monitor the laptop crashed - both screens blank- fan on- power button went orange- had to hold down the power button to reset.
Tried it again, opened Bf3 in window mode, put it on external monitor, went to full screen - it played ok for a few minutes then the laptop crashed again..
I had played bf3 no problems on the laptop screen previously.
Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? I'm new to gaming on pc so I'm a bit lost, any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • HT3964 connected new external monitor to macbook pro, was working but now have no power, black screen in laptop. monitor purchased with advice from tech and set up also. Worked fine for an hour and then quit

Have just connected a viewsonic external monitor to macbook pro 10.6.8, had everything up and running fine for about an hour then the macbook quit. No power (ws running off power source) Have I killed my macbook? Help!

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.

  • Using EXTERNAL Monitor (eSata question too) do you need KEYBOARD Attached?

First, do you need a keyboard attached? I ask as I can't seem to figure out how to use external MONITOR and CLOSE the macbook pro to watch STREAMING video as the computer goes to sleep.
Have tried using the F7 as well as in display preferences moving the DOCK to various monitors, regardless, it still goes to sleep when I shut the MBP, so am wondering if a keyboard has to be attached as it doesn't know you are watching video.
Second thing, I want to use the EXTERNAL to WATCH STREAMING video, however, if I click on FULL SCREEN (external) which is using Silveright, both DISPLAYS go FULL Screen. For the life of me I cannot get external to display FULL SCREEN and have the MBP open to use for other things, work, net browsing, et-cetera.
    Thanks.

I ask as I can't seem to figure out how to use external MONITOR and CLOSE the macbook pro to watch STREAMING video as the computer goes to sleep.
If your MacBook Pro goes to sleep who will stream the video?
For the life of me I cannot get external to display FULL SCREEN and have the MBP open to use for other things, work, net browsing, et-cetera.
If the mirror display is turned off in the "Display" preference, you would be able to (usually) watch videos in full screen in the external display and work in your main display. But some application may not support this. Check if the application that you are using for streaming video has any preferences to deal with the external display, if not, see if there is any other application that would solve the problem.

  • Can the Mac Pro run Window XP (booth camp) and be used as a MAc OS server

    Hi There
Can the Mac Pro run Window XP (booth camp) and be used as a MAc OS server in the same time?
I am a small business and I was thinking of using the new mac pro for a new workstation on my studio and to also use it as a server for 5 work others stations. Is that possible? Or I am asking a bit to much work load to do for the Mac Pro?
Can the Mac Pro can run under Window XP and Autocad and still be accessed by other workstation whilst working on the cad software? Is booth camp will slow the machine like Virtual PC?
IS the MAc Pro can manage file hosting website with PHP and mySQL capabilites?

  • How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connector without a usb

How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connecter, only a port.

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.
What model MacBook Pro do you have, by year, CPU speed or MacBook Pro 3.1 designation?
