Use Flash MX or Motion for animation to FCP 4.5?

I'm writing a one-man performance piece for myself, consisting of spoken words, text display of phone conversation audios, songs and instrumental music, video sometimes with stills, and in particular one song (4 minutes) right now that I need to do animation with. The animation will consist of stills of a dancer (me, such as I dance) in movement composited over both video and stills backgrounds.
I'm just going through the tutorials in a book I got for Motion 1, Getting Started with Motion by Mary plummer - very good. I have Flash MX, and searching the archives it appears that at least one version of Flash can export a QT compatible movie to import into FCP. In what I've read so far about Motion 1 it seems to be primarily for 8-10 second animations. Will Flash, the MX version, be better? Or Motion 1?
I haven't learned Flash at all and I'm under deadline pressure. My final output is to DVD Studio Pro 3 to DVD with which I'll interact for the performance. If Motion 1 can hack it, I'd rather stay with it, but I don't know.
Gracias.

I haven't learned Flash at all and I'm under deadline
pressure.
When the deadline is tight, go with what you know. In my experience and professional opinion, using Flash is a better and more efficient way to create animations for use in video.
But you need to be a pretty sophisticated Flash authorer before you can start creating those animations in a manner that will actually work out for you to import into video. Flash is a very difficult program to learn, at least initially.
If you understand Motion, and you can do what you need to do in Motion, then do it in Motion.
If Motion wants you to work in short clips, then that's OK. you are going to edit them together in FCP anyway, so transitions will be seamless. There's lots of good logistic and project management reasons to chop up your program into modules anyway.
I've done lots and lots of animations in Flash, both for web and video. I love working in the Flash environment.
I've also spent a good chunk fo the past 30 years doing various kinds of media production work, especially video.
So I repeat to you my initial advice, when the deadline is tight, go with what you know. If you know Motion, then use Motion.
Good luck

  • How to use Flash recovery area only for flashback database feature

I would like to use flash recovery area only for flashback database feature, which means, flash recovery area will store only flashback logs.
I dont want to use that file system for any other files, like archive log files, database backups, control file copies, multiplex redo log, etc
is it possible? I want to use this feature only for flashback database option and hence i dont want to disturb any existing configuration in my database
including backup jobs. Is it required to store archive redo log files also in flash recovery area to use the flashback database feature?
I certainly can't afford to have a copy of entire database in this file system as size of my DB is more than the flash recovery area file system I have.
    Thanks

    Aman,
I think i was not clear in my question. Let me try again
My only requirement is to use flashback database feature (or be prepared to use if required). I dont want to create a large file system to use this FRA to store all these files. Out of all the files being stored here copy of data files seems to be consuming more space. I see these files are classified as transient and permanent files. I am okay with permanent files. I fear that this file system may consume more space if i store backup files on disk. I want database backups to go to tapes, not to the FRA disk. Is it possible?
    Thanks for your reply
Okay, well in that case you can use RMAN and push the backups to the tape drives. FLB logs would be stored on the FRA.

  • Should I use Flash Builder to develop for iOS?

We have a sizable AIR application built using Flash Builder 4.5 that is deployed on Windows and Mac. We tried to package it for Android and it simply failed to run at all. Apparently there are many namespaces not supported on Android. We've since stopping concerning ourselves with Android because the vast majority of our clients only care about iPad when it comes to tablets.
So, the question I have that remains very elusive to me is: do I attempt to build an iPad version of our product on our existing AS3/Flex code base using Flash Builder, or should I port over to xcode and go native iOS? All the marketing I see surrounding Flash Builder says that you can build apps for iPad. But just how practical is this for anything more than trivial apps? Adobe AIR is supported on Android and it failed to work, which doesn't give me much confidence in trying to make this work on an iPad. Now that Adobe is moving away from Flex does it make any sense to even attempt this?
    What say you Adobe?
    Thanks

  • Can I develop CF projects using Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP?

I currently develop CF projects using Flash Builder 4.5.  I am considering purchasing Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP.  Will I still be able to work on my CF projects using FB for PHP?

Because in the installation instructions for FB for PHP it says that you have to uninstall the current installation of FB which I have several CF projects that I use regularly.  I hate to uninstall if it turns out that I can't transport my current projects into FB for PHP.
Oh that sux!  It's just an Eclipse plug-in, and one can have installed multiple installs of Eclipse OK, so I wonder why they're said this?
OK, because I give suck advice, I'll D/L it and install it on a spare machine and take a look.  FB usually has a CF perspective does it?  So what you need to know is whether FB for PHP still has the CF perspective?
Or are you asking whether you can install CFB (or CFEclipse) as a plug-in to FB for PHP, like one can with FB?
    Sorry about the bad advice.

  • Flash or Premiere better for animations and movies in web design with Dreamweaver?

    Hello,
I am recreating my personal website, and need to know which program (Flash or Premiere) is best to create animations that will be brought into a prerendered scene from 3ds Max. I have modeled television monitors that will flash and flicker with icons and text, but bringing video and animation into a scene like this for web developement is beyond my experience. I am using Dreamweaver CS3 to redo my website, and during my education we were never shown how to bring in this type of animation to a website. I do have experience with all of the above mentioned programs, unfortunately its far from an experts understanding. Any help is greatly appreciated, and if more details and information is needed please feel free to ask questions if my rambling is confusing.
    Many Thanks!

Unless you are animating vector elements and/or buttons (which would suit Flash), either app can be used.

  • I cannot use flash player at all for some reason...

I have windows 7, I run the 62-bit like I was told, I use Internet Explorer 9, and my system should be fully capable of running flash player.  Whenever I use a site that has adds or videos relying on flash player, said add or video just flashes as I move the mouse back and forth across the screen.  Youtube works fine for me.  The problems started when I got a newer version of flash player and so far none of my efforts have solved my problem.  I'd rather not mess around with things without consent from this point onward to avoid any serious problems with my computer.  Just to be clear, I am running the proper version of flash player with correct settings and it is not working on certain sites (every site but youtube).

    What sites?
    Go to this site: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Can you see the spinning F?
Move your pointer to where the spiining F was, right click, click settings and uncheck Hardware acceleration.
Go view some videos, is the problem solved?
What is your video adapter and driver version?

  • Advice on using Flash in the future for Android VS. Air VS. Web Development

First, I am not trolling and I see that other similar questions have been asked recently, though I am looking for specific info to meet the needs of our program (that is why I am posting this now).
We've been teaching Flash at a community college for many years. After Adobe stopped development of the Flash Player for browsers, I'm left wondering what the future of Flash in the web will be? Data shows that a majority of web browsing will take place from mobile devices over the next several years, and if you are not going to be able to view Flash web content in a browser from a mobile device, I am concerned about whether it makes sense to continue teaching Flash to students for web design/development. I know Flash can also be used for developing applications, Air, etc., and we do some of that currently, I'm just wondering how Adobe can expect developers to commit to the platform for web development without supporting mobile web browsers. Am I missing something? Do developers see this differently? I appreciate any insight from Flash developers or Adobe employees. FYI - I just did a similar analysis with our video editing program and asked similar questions in an Apple Final Cut Pro forum and we are moving away from Apple's Final Cut Pro after they changed direction with their latest release and we are now going to start teaching Adobe Premiere. Should we focus teaching Flash for Android and Air development and back off from using it for web development?
    Thanks in advance.

I'd like an answer for this one too.  Thank you, "Media Kat" for posting the question.  I am a prototyper with a background in art and design, who has worked exclusively with Flash for nearly 13 years.  I'm currently working with AIR for Android, but my superiors and associates think AIR is going to die (along with the rest of Flash) and don't understand that simply "switching to HTML5" is not a very palatable answer.  It would be helpful to hear from someone "in the know" about the future of Flash.
    Thanks.
P.S.  If someone from Adobe answers this, please don't BS me like they did at the last forum I attended at Adobe headquarters in San Jose.  We asked specifically if Flash and/oir Flex were dying and were assured that they had a long future... Three weeks before the announcement to kill it!  :-(

  • Flash vs. Fireworks for Animation Map

Quick "flash" question. I need to supply a flash animation
map of the US, where the user clicks on individual states...
afterwhich the state color changes to a 2nd color and the data is
ported to a website/dbase. Based on that info, can this be done in

Those are easiest to do in Flash, where all you need to do is
    create
buttons of each section of the map.

  • Any Cinema 4D users using video output in Motion 4 and/or FCP?

I'm having a tricky time getting the Cinema 4D generated video to look as good in Motion 4 and FCP as it does when viewed in QuickTime.
    I have R11.5 core.
Also wondering for those who updated to R12, your thoughts? Specifically video exports of animation?
I was thinking to move to R12 Prime as the cost with MSA is only about $450 vs. Studio which is about $2300.
    Thanks, Rob

Thanks for the response, I upgraded to Cinema 4D R12 Studio and the problem seems to have gone away. Strange, but ok.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 for animation

I've just bought Photoshop Elements 12 with a view to using it to create simple 2D animations.
However, all the tutorials seem to either ignore tihs use or are based on earlier versions and I can't seem to follow them as 12 doesn't work quite the same way/have the same icons/menus.
Can someone please help point me in the direction of something that will help me with creating/editing animations, or tell me I'm using fundamentally the wrong software for animation and should just give up and buy something else (in which case any suggestions gratefully received!).  I'm using Photoshop on a PC.
    Many thanks

You would really need the companion program Premiere Elements 12 as ideally key frames are needed for video and animation.
See this video tutorial for an idea:

  • Flash CS4 10.0 for Mac very unstable. Just me?

I've been using Flash CS4 10.0 for a few weeks now and this thing crashes on me about a half a dozen times a day. Am I the only one?
    Thanks!
    Scot

    Reviving this post/thread.
Already have the aforementioned 10.0.2 (courtesy of this thread about a month ago) and yes, it's a bit unstable (still).
    Symptoms:
"TEST MOVIE" doesn't seem to "compile correctly"If you do a test movie, the first time you run it, the movie will not run correctly - usually if you make as3 code changes. You may start pulling your hair out and changning more code - without really needing to.
If you stop/close the movie and just do another TEST MOVIE (aka "recompile" again), it will run as you had expected it to.
I've never needed to do this more than twice, so fair warning to others - don't immediately start cannibilizing your code, just do this twice and only start screaming after a 2nd "test movie" does the same thing (meaning yeah, you hosed something in code).
Unsure if this is a Mac or Flash thing - but there are certain instances when saving your work takes longer. Sorry, I'm coming from the PC world here, so that "spinning wheel" (akin to the spinning hour glass on PCs) appears. If this were a large project (in the Flash sense), then I'd expect it to do the same thing each time - it doesn't.
As much as this started off as being a "huh, I thought mysterious hangs only happened on PCs moment?", it finally culminated in a PC like crash of Flash CS4 Pro last night. I did expect some data loss - changes made after last save, but it seemed to revert to a couple of "versions back" - if that makes sense.
So it sounds like a file managment issue (versioning?) - actually both issues above somewhat point to something in this area...
Anyway, just posting this to say, nope, you're not alone in noticing instability of Flash CS4 on a Mac (pro workstation, Intel, Leopard)

  • Tips/Hints re: using flash for live title graphics and visualisations

Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm a design student from New Zealand, with a reasonably basic knowledge of flash, I've built a few relatively simple flash sites and applications for example.
I got a job the other day to produce live title graphics for a fashion show, and think flash can do the trick. Before i started i wanted to jump on here and see if you guys know of any interesting tutorials etc that could help me out? computerarts has a few on using live video/sound to create animation. I also need a way to transition pages without a set time, almost a crossfader- as the show is not timed exactly.
Any tips or hints would be much appreciated!!!
    cheers
