Use GPS with an original iphone?

will apple think about the users of the original iphone and do something about the GPS, like an antenna or something like that or we will have to buy the iphone 3G...?

The first generation iPhone does not includes a GPS radio and IMO, I doubt Apple will provide a GPS antenna that connects to the USB port. I don't know if any such animal exists.

  • How to sync iPhone 3G (OS 4.1) with previous original iPhone ( OS 2.1)

how can i sync a second hand iPhone 3G (OS 4.1) that I just got, with my iTunes, addresses, calendar etc that is already sync with my original iPhone that is still on OS 2.1?
    thank u

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, upon subsequent syncs. So, plug it in and sync. If it has content and data from the previous user, you should delete that FIRST. Plug it into a wall outlet(this can take several hours), then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. When finished, it will look just like it did when first taken out of the box. Plug it into itunes, name it what you want & sync.
Do you have a sim card for this phone? Your original iphone sim card will not work(doesn't support 3G). So, you most likely will need to obtain a new sim card if you want to use it as a phone. It will need a sim card in it to update software or restore the phone.

  • How to using ical with two separate iphones

    hello
trying to understand and learn how to use Ical with 2 different Iphones, using Icloud.

To sync iCal across computers, the calendar needs to be published to a server. This can be a local server that you can set up, or it can be something like google or microsoft exchange or apple's mobile me. The best bet may be to wait until fall and see what iCloud offers!
Sharing your screen can be accomplished a few different ways. You can have two iChat accounts set up, and have one logged in on each computer, and then use iChat's screen share feature. The other way is to go to System Preferences, Sharing, and then check the box next to Screen Sharing. You may have to adjust some of the settings in there, but give that a shot.

  • Use iCloud with a backup iPhone without destroying original iCloud backup

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 5 which i need to send to repair for few days. Device is fully backup with iCloud.
I have a backup iPhone 4 to use for the week i wont have my iPhone 5.
iPhone 4 is now after a hard reset and completely empty. i want just to restore my contacts and calendar to my backup iPhone 4 so the original iPhone 5 backup will not be destroyed so i can restore my repaired iPhone 5 when it's come back.
What is the proper way to do this?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately if you migrate to iCloud the only thing that he will be able to use on your pre-lion mac is the iCloud mail account. You will be able to access your calendars, contacts etc at iCloud.com, but I suspect you already know that.

  • How to use GPS with n73?

hihi, just bought n73 couple days ago, i am new to this cellphone thing. can any1 tell me how can i have gps with my n73. like procedures, accessories and softwares i need to get it to work. is there a step by step guide.

I dont think it needs A-GPS with an external GPS receiver because it gets a lock so easily. I started mine from cold this morning (ie from off not standby) and had a lock in about 20sec. From standby I usually get a lock in 10-15 sec.
I was just about to buy an N95 when the new ones were announced so I'm holding off but I always thought I would more often than not use the LD-3W with the N95 while driving anyway. I think you can do that. No loss because I'll give the N80 to the boss (wife) anyway.

  • Traveling Internationally with the original iPhone

I have friend who is about to embark on a international trip to Vietnam. She is bringing her iPhone with her, but does NOT want to have to pay the expensive roaming charges while there. So we're looking for a way to turn off the cell phone part so it won't/can't connect to whatever wireless network may be there, but still use it with Wi-Fi for the iPhone apps and for getting email where Wi-Fi is available.
I'm guessing that turning OFF Enable Edge and turning OFF Data Roaming should do the trick, but want to be sure before I give her bad information.
    Any ideas?

There is no option to turn off EDGE or GPRS access with the first generation iPhone. There is an option to turn off 3G network access with the iPhone 3G which doesn't turn off EDGE or GPRS access with the iPhone. Data Roaming is off by default with the iPhone.
If she is running firmware version 2.0 or later on her iPhone, she can enable Airplane mode followed by turning on wi-fi access. This will disable the cell and data access via the cellular network so no calls can be placed or received and the same for SMS, this disables data access via a cellular network, and disables bluetooth access. Wi-Fi access will be available turning her iPhone into an iPod Touch.

  • Problem with the original iphone.

i have the original iphone for the past year and half.
i've dropped it many times, but it didn't harm the iphone.
the other day, i dropped it, and it died. it didn't respond to nothing.
until i plugged it to the charger, and to the computer.
than when i pressed the sleep/wake button then it lights up and you can see the apple logo.
but it shuts down again after a minute.
i tried to restart it while it was plugged, so it restarts but goes back to- lighting up and showing the logo.
how can i save my iphone?

Either the battery is not charging properly, or your iPhone is knackered as a result of you dropping it repeatedly. Without seeing it, I would assume it is the latter that has caused the fault. I suggest you take it to an Apple Store or to your network operator and seek some advise as to whether it is repairable or not.

  • 3g Crashes --- NEVER had a problem with 2G (original iPhone...)

Using iPhone 3G 2.0.2 for 1 day after having the original since it launched. NEVER had a significant problem with 2G, but ALREADY my 3G has frozen several times, most recently this pm and I had to do the "Mr.Buzz" MULTIPLE reset x 15-20minutes to get back to "normal"(?hopefully) without having to do a lengthy/tedious system restore...
Apple...FIX THIS---it's time to quit locking threads and ignoring problems, and instead FIX THEM---if it's an app doing it, then there needs to be more constraints on programming---this is an open/closed platform a la XBox 360/PS3 and there simply shouldn't be this many problems...

If the phone will not power on try these three things:
Connect it to your phone charger
Connect it to your computer and open up iTunes
Perform a hard reset (Hold down the sleep/wake (top) button at the same time as the home (circle) button for 45 seconds. When the apple appears on the screen let go of both buttons.

  • HI, I would like to use GPS with I Pad for navigation when I am trekking.  I will need to download maps in order to do this.  Can anyone tell me which I Pad is the one to purchase?  Thanks, Dave

    HI,
I would like to use an I Pad for navigating when I am trekking in the UK and in Europe.  I would also like to download local maps.
Does anyone know which I Pad will support GPS Navigation?
    Thanks
    Dave

Wi-Fi only iPads do not have the GPS chip and rely on inaccurate methods to determine location. So a cellular iPad is a must even if you do not set up a cellular data account.
Also downloaded maps take up space on the iPad. So I would suggest that you consider an iPad with storage greater that the base model.

  • Help with Locked Original iPhone

my girlfriend has two iphones, an old-school original and a 3g iphone. the original is unlocked and was operating on t-mobile. 3g iphone is on a normal att contract.
i was updating her stuff, and i idiotically plugged in the old iphone into itunes. it goes thru downloading new firmware process, then i get the window that says please insert valid SIM card. now the phone is only under emergency mode. the firm on the old iphone was 1.1.x. it was updating to 2.2, but i don't know if it is actually the new firmware now. also, i believe the installation process says it was backup in the device, but what does that include and how can i restore from that particular backup?
i dont want to unlock phone using software because there is a ton of contacts and txt messages that need to be saved because they are not backed up (she will kill me). she never syncs her iphone. so i was wondering if this alternative would work:
would using the sim card from the iphone 3g activate the old phone without deleting any of the information on the phone? or does the (re)activation process purge the hard drive? any guidance on my situation is appreciated.

No, it would be activated as a new phone and you would lose any content on it. When you restored it you essentially wiped it, so there is no way to recover content. BTW, there is no hard drive in an iPhone; it's all solid state memory.

  • Using GPS with wifi only

Somebody told me that GPS on the iPohone only works if 3G coverage is available. Is this true?

Not true. It works with any data signal (EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, or GPRS). The GPS can find where you are without a signal, but it will just display a blue dot on a grey grid, and the map will not load.
GPS is only available on the iPhone 3G and 3G S, and not on the 1st generation iPhone. The 1st generation iPhone doesn't have a GPS chipset, but it can triangulate your position (VERY inaccurate) as long as it is connected to a cell tower, but again, data signal is required to load the map.

  • Gps module for original iphone

Is there, or will there be, a gps thing that can be plugged into the bottom of the 1st gen iphone to allow gps functionality?

Probably not. Certainly there is not one available now, and since the iPhone 3G is out with GPS built in, it's doubtful there's much incentive for vendors to develop one.

  • I have an Apple ID but I can't use it with Find my iPhone?

The title says it pretty much. I am trying to use this app but when i log in with this username it says that the password/username is incorrect? How can I get this working? As well I tried to use this log in at the MobileMe website but it doesn't work as well....

I had the same problem...pretty easy fix.
open your itunes and go to itunes store. Top Right corner go to your account, it should show your account name (I am guessing it is something like Stevesmith). simple edit that/change it to be a full email address that you use. ie. [email protected]
You will need to update the info in all of your itunes account devices/computers/etc. but the find my phone seems to only work with full email addresses as your itunes account login.

        bonniesb,
Well that certainly is concerning to hear that your son's phone isn't working as it should. Does he get any type of error when he tried to open up an app? What apps is he having trouble using? please share this info. Thanks.
