Can I purchase an iPhone in the US to bring back to New Zealand to use (full time - ie 'home')?
No. The US iPhone is carrier locked to ATT.
I see that there is a huge saving to be made monetary wise, and I see that the iPhones are 'locked' to each individual country (it seems).
Each phone is carrier locked to a particular carrier in each country it is legitimately available in.
But, I also see else-where on-line an iPhone retailer (in New Zealand) advertising iPhones for sale ("NZ$1100 16Gb, unlocked, NZ settings, 1.1.4 software") as well as an additional 'option' of "Unlock only, NZ$69 - unlock existing iPhone, NZ settings, 1.1.4 software".
These are hacked phones. They have no warranty and you cannot update them when Apple puts out updates. You will also get no support on these forums for a hacked phone.
So, it seems to me that I CAN purchase in the US and bring home to New Zealand to be unlocked and for use here?
You can but it would be stupid to do so. You're better off waiting for the phone to become legitimately available in your country.

    If I buy an iphone from the hong kong site to use in new zealand, will it come unlocked and can i use it in new zealand on a nz service provider?

    If you purchase an unlocked iPhone it will work on any supported gsm network.
    Just FYI, apple will not ship outside the country in which the device is purchased. A device purchased in the Hong Kong website must have a shipping and billing address in Hong Kong.
    Also, warranty and support are only valid in the country of origin.

  • Can a U.S. iPhone be unlocked to use in New Zealand?

    I'm looking at buying an iPhone 4s off ebay since they're cheaper than buying one in NZ. Will I be able to unlock it to use on a New Zealand network?
    Thanks

    There are no unlocked iPhone 5 series currently available in US Apple stores. All of the current production run is being sold as locked. At some time in the future unlocked phones will probably be available, but we have no idea when. Also, at this time stores do not have any stock; you must buy online for delivery to your US address or a US store. You must also pay with a credit card that has a US billing address.
    Some people have reported that a T-Mobile iPhone 5S or 5C purchased directly from an Apple store for full price is an unlocked phone, as long as you do not activate it on T-Mobile. Apple will not confirm this, so it is anecdotal.
    Note also that if you buy ANY iPhone in the US all warranty and out-of-warranty service must be performed in the US. The iPhone warranty is not international.

  • How do I get an adapter for a laptop and iPhone to use them in New Zealand and Australia?

    How do I gwet an adapter for a laptop and Iphone to use in New Zealand and Australia?

    For the iPhone the regular power adapter will work worldwide. All you need is a plug aapter. 99% of all laptop power packs are also universal. (All Apple laptops certainly are). Look at the label. If it says 120-240 volts, 50/60 Hz it will work anywhere in the world. Again, all you need is a converter for the prongs on the plug.

  • How do I switch between the Dutch and New Zealand App Store?

    I am living in New Zealand and bought my iPhone here. I used the New Zealand AppStore but was trying to see if I could also use some Dutch apps because that's were I'm from. I was able to switch to the Dutch AppStore but my appleID was not compatible. Now I don't know how to switch back to the New Zealand App Store and I can't update my current apps anymore either.

    Change iTunes Store Country on an iDevice
    1. Tap Settings;
    2. Tap iTunes & App Stores;
    3. Tap View Apple ID;
    4. Enter your user name and password;
    5. Tap Country/Region;
    6. Tap Change Country/Region;
    7. Select the region where you will be located;
    8. Tap Done.

  • Account Temporarily Unavailable - New Zealand Store

    I have not been able to make a cd purchase since 5th July. I keep getting this message that my account is temporarily unavailable. I have sent an email to Apple using a web form on their Website. But had no response from them.
    Do I have any options? This is very disapointing. I am in New Zealand so use the New Zealand Store. I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes, I think on 5th July, so maybe this caused the issue.
    I have tried changing store preferences to use a Shopping Cart and not, and that did not get around the issue.
    I'm not very happy!

    Who is your ISP? Do you have any firewalls or anti-virus turned on at the moment? If so, try disabling them for just a bit. Also, try power cycling (removing power from and plugging back in) your broadband modem.
    Be it the problem still exists -- if you're connected via a router, try connected directly via that modem.
    =)

  • Why do I get the message when I try to purchase an app or song on itunes using my iPhone5? "Account Not In This Store. Your account is not valid for use in the U.S. store. You must switch to the New Zealand store before purchasing."

    When I try to buy either an app or a song via iTunes, I have just started getting the following message and I am unable to change the store location. "Account Not In This Store. Your account is not valid for use in the U.S. store. You must switch to the New Zealand store before purchasing."
    This problem has only just started happening. I am on an iPhone5 iOS 7.0.4.
    Very frustrating. Can someone please tell me why & where the change has occured and how to fix it? In the past I have purchased many apps and songs on itunes and never had this problem.
    Thanks a mill :-)

  • How to use Mac Mini's and HD Freeview to capture raw TV satellite feeds in NEW ZEALAND?

    Hello, this is my first post on this kind of forum - I am not very tech savy so go easy on me! Ideally I am hoping someone can offer some constructive advice.
    I am part of a business that captures television off air as part of an ongoing contract. The system was implemented years ago and consists of 12 capture chains which are set-top cable boxes. They are a mix of Freeview NZ (free) and Sky TV (pay) - both on Satellite (Optus B1 I believe). The boxes are connected to Eye TV 250 boxes which are running through mini mac's (Mac OS X 10.5.4) that all have 1TB drives attached.
    We are capturing two hour scheduled harvest stream blocks, and editing the individual programmes out manually, for an average of 15 hours - equivalent to 27GB, per capture chain, per day. While this system works ok it is very labour intensive and we would like to make the system more automated. There are also a few issues which I would really appreciate some guidance or suggestions on:
    1/ Eye TV turns the digital signal from the decoder to analog and then back out to digital again because we are using S-video composite cables. Ideally we would like to capture HD Raw signal with little or no compression at all. We could upgrade to the Eye TV HD box but would prefer not to because.....
    2/ ...Eye TV creates a proprietary file format (Eye TV specific file) that requires exportation to play in QT or VLC and while you can export as MP4 this takes a considerable amount of time. Up to 7 hours for 1 hour of capture - far to slow for our requirements. Therefore we export as a Mpeg Program Stream which slightly compresses the file and spits out an Mpeg 2. IDEALLY we would be creating H.264 files
    3/ We can only export up to 2 hours, 15 minutes of capture (any more than that and the file goes dead (black) from that point on).
    4/ Because we are in little old NZ, Eye TV (North American) won't pick up the local EPG (Electronic Programming Guide). This means all the scheduling has to be done manually and the meta data is not captured.
    So ultimately we would like a system that captures television with little or no compression of the digital signal, in an H.264 format, with the New Zealand EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) available for both scheduling and metadata, that fits within a Mac system, is not Eye TV (or does not create software specific files) AND is cost effective.
    Goodluck.

    Hello & welcome to the foruns!
    Maybe I can help with one facet...
    Just a quick note for people who use Elgato’s EyeTV on their Macs in New Zealand. I’ve got an Automator script here that will fetch a TV schedule and load it into EyeTV. It takes care of deleting the file it downloads but you might need to open it (use the Automator program) to change where it downloads to.

  • What adapter/converter do I use for my USA mac book pro in NEW ZEALAND?

    I'm studying abroad in New Zealand for 2 months and was wondering what type of adapter/converter do I use? I'm actually already here in New Zealand but buy a converter/adapter before I left. What should I look for on the box? I have a mac book pro 13 in that I bought in 2011.Thanks!

    The MacBook Pro power adapter is multi-voltage capable, so you will need just an AC outlet adapter for the New Zealand power system.

  • ¿What's the best iPhone 6 model to use in USA, Mexico and New Zealand? I am guessing the Model A1524

    I'm a traveler who uses the phone in different countries with a local SIM card (with an unlocked iPhone).  I mainly need to use the phone in USA, Mexico and New Zealand.  Occasionally in Europe but mostly on those 3 countries.   I can see the iPhone 6 plus comes in different models each with different frequencies to match specific cellphone companies.
    For what I can see, the model A1524 is the one with most frequencies available which makes me think it may match the frequencies of cellphone companies in more countries, but not sure.
    Please some advice.

    Depends  on when you can get an unlocked version but your surmise I suspect is correct if you want to use 4G /LTE
    Remember the warranty is not international so buy where you are based for maximum coverage

  • I have created an album in iphoto but can't buy it because I still use iphoto 08 (version 7.0). If I upgrade to version 7.0, can I print my album in New Zealand or Australia?

    I have created an album in iphoto but can't buy it because I still use iphoto 08 (version 7.0). If I upgrade to version 8.0 which is iphoto 09 can I print my album in New Zealand?

    Yes  --  http://store.apple.com/us/help/print_products/routing
    but to upgrade you will need to purchase an iLife DVD from ebay or Amazon or other source - older versions of iPhoto are not available from the App Store - either iLife '09 or '11 will work on 10.6.8
    beware that sometimes books (albums are logical organzational elements in iPhoto) sometimes will change with upgrades so you may need to make some changes after upgrading - be sure to carefully preview prior to ordering the book

    As noted your power adapter will handle the voltage. You might however need a plug adapter if those county's use a different physical arrangement...

  • Can I use a 2760 in New Zealand?

    I asked my local O2 mobile phone shop whether I could use my 2760 in New Zealand and I was informed "No".  However, when I checked the website, www.gsmarena.com, it told me that the phone supports GSM 900 & 1800 which are sufficient to work in New Zealand.  Does anyone know what the correct answer is?  Thanks. Tony

    Generally speaking, any  phone bought anywhere in Europe, Africa and Asia will work in any other country in all three - the only exceptions being Japan and South Korea where there are no GSM services at all.
    This is a useful link worth keeping for any time you travel:

    It gives details of all countries in the world and what services are offered by the networks in each.
