Use iPhone 4s as iPod Touch, Can't Activate
Hello all,
I have an old Sprint 4s that I'd like to keep using as an iPod Touch and don't need cell service on. I wiped it clean when I got my new phone and haven't touched it in about a year. I turned it on and it started to take me through the activation process but I keep getting the error message "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable" So I plugged it into iTunes and when I click the on the iPhone in iTunes I get a message that says "Your request couldn't be processed. We're sorry, but there was an error processing your request. Please try again later." I tried restoring the phone and got the same messages. Then I tried putting the phone in recovery mode, restoring it, and I got the same messages after it updated the ios.
I had a chat session with Apple and after some troubleshooting to do things I had already done, they transferred me to a supervisor who basically said "you need a support sim, go search the forums." Anybody know anything about this? Is the sim card really the problem, and how do I get a support sim card?

The iPhone 4S on Sprint wouldn't have required any SIM to activate. It would only have used a SIM for international roaming. Domestically, it would simply be working on the CDMA network. As I recall, the phones generally had to be connected to a computer with iTunes installed in order to activate them. What the OP did should have worked.

What do I have to do to use my iPhone 4 as an IPod touch? I currently have a 4 and am no longer going to use it as a phone but I would to keep it as a newer touch with a camera.

You can't do anything with an iPhone until it is activated. Activating it doesn't mean it is activating it with service, it only activates the phone to work as an iPod Touch. The sim doesn't need to be activated either, it only has to be a valid sim and properly inserted. Once activated, it will be an iPod Touch without phone service. -
Using iPhone 5 as iPod touch. Help?
I currently have an iPhone 5 that I bought through Sprint. It's on a cellphone plan through Sprint as well. I'm really wanting to cut some financial corners and am hoping that it is possible to cancel my Sprint services but still be able to use the phone as an iPod. I suppose I just need a walk through on how to make this happen. Once I terminate my sprint service, can I just continue using the phone or are there steps in between that? Also, I know I there are apps that you can download in order to still be able to text and make calls. Could someone tell me what those are? For example, would GoogleVoice work or not?
Thank you!As far as texting and making calls, apps such as Pinger or TextFree work wifi/3G in a VoIP manor. It gives you a real phone number that you can purchase minutes (or earn them in certain ways) and it gives you free unlimited texting. As far as using the iPhone as an iPod Touch, I have not found anyhting pointing to the idea that it would not work. It would be a wifi-only iPod Touch 5, but it SHOULD still work.

Can I Purchase Sim Card on Ebay to Use iPhone 4 as iPod Touch?
I'm looking to purchase an iPhone 4 on Ebay to convert to an iPod Touch, mainly because of the highly superior camera and specs, but I know that you need a MicroSIM card to activate the phone. The phone I'm looking at is a Verizon version, so I was wondering if I could be able to just purchase a blank Verison SIM on Ebay, since they're only a few dollars? Unfortunately, none of my friends or nearby family have SIMs I can use as all of their phones don't have them, so I'm hoping I'm not in a pickle here. lol
So should I look for an iPhone from a specific carrier? I'm really trying to make caving into getting the iPod Touch 4th Gen a last resort because I know they're techincally inferior, and I take a lot of photos and would love to have the extra horsepower.

I recently bought the iphone 6 Plus. I'd like to use my iphone 4S as an ipod touch for my son. If I continue to use my applet ID to access the App store on the 4S will it affect my storage of anything on my 6 Plus? I don't want to reset the 4S phone since there are many apps on there my children use. What steps do I need to take in order to keep the 4S as is, and ensure the contents of the 4S don't get backed up to my 6 Plus. Also, if I don't have a text/phone plan for the 4S can my son still text from the 4S using WiFi?

KristenThe phone must have a SIM in it in order for the steps in the article to be completed. It does not have to be an active one, but the phone needs to have one present.
A SIM is also necessary if you restore or update the phone. The process will not complete without a SIM present.

Want to use iphone 4s as ipod but can't get past activation
My brother sent his iPhone 4s in to have a replacement. When he got the new one back he never used it and he closed his account with ATT. He has a work phone that is paid for him now and doesn't need it. I asked him if he'd send it to me to use. I wanted to use it as an iPod, but I can't get past the activation. I'm being told by the phone that I need a sim card to activate it but I don't have a sim and I have phone service already so I don't need to go get it turned on. It's a perfect little piece of equipment that I'd love to use but I can't. Can anyone please help me?
USING AN IPHONE AS AN IPOD
Restore your phone as new. Place a SIM card into the phone and connect it your computer with iTunes open and follow the activation assistant to activate the iphone. Once the iphone have been activated remove the SIM card and turn on imessage in settings/messages. My iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and a few iPod Touches cannot see my wifi network. They can all see my neighbors'. My iPad and computer, however, can see my wifi network. They have all updated to the new iOS 6 recently. Help!!

I recently purchased the newest nano. I have 3 other nano's and iPad iPhone, oh and iPod touch. When I plug in nano to my mac I get the message "iPod cannot update because it contains files that are used by another application. How can manage this?

Yes you can. Just make sure you have iMesages on. You will need to go into Settings>Messages and turn it on and log in to their Apple IDs. I was having some activation issues when I first got my iPhone 4S [it was the carrier's fault, not the iPhone's] and I was using iMessages with my Apple ID to text my friends who had iPhones. I of course had to be connected to Wi-Fi for it to work. Hope that helps.
You could also have them download a texting app and they could use that on Wi-Fi. There are many free ones out there. I personally enjoy Text Now. Gives you your own phone number so others can text you too, not just iDevices. -

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

I need to use another laptop to sync my music, I've already synced my iPhone 4S and iPod Touch 4G with my laptop and had to delete EVERYTHING to do so! I refuse to do this again, I was NEVER able to restore my phone back to it's original state since then.
How can I sync up my idevices to ANY computer w/ iTunes without having to completely bomb my iphone and ipod? And if I can't do that, how can I back up all my music and apps? I've already tried "back up device" and that did absolutely NOTHING to help my predicament.
Long story short, I had my devices synced to my desktop, my desktop broke, so I bought a laptop, synced my devices to my laptop after erasing all my data, and my laptop was destroyed during hurricane sandy, so now I have to use my parents/friends computers to sync new music and videos. BUT CAN'T BECAUSE MY DEVICES WERE ALREADY SYNCED TO MY LAPTOP AND DESKTOP!

Can i find my Ipod Touch using my friend's Ipod Touch???
I took my Ipod to my friend's house in a bag and left it there. The next day i find out it is not there so it is lost/probably stolen. I tried to use Find My Ipod on it to see if it works but it says it is offline/probably out of charge. Is there anyway of using my friend's Ipod Touch to locate it???
