Use iPhone/iPad to Permanently Delete Songs from iCloud/iTunes Match

I have iCloud and iTunes Match, but I am doing my annual "spring cleaning" (yes, I know it's winter) of songs I don't really listen to or want to keep anymore. I want to delete them permanently from iCloud/iTunes Match. I used to do this in iTunes on a computer. I would delete them from the Song list and it would prompt me with a question to the effect of "Do you want to delete these from iCloud as well?"
Well, I am operating solely on an iPhone and an iPad now. I don't have a computer anymore. So I don't have iTunes software anymore and thus don't have this means of deleting songs from iCloud. I don't know how to delete songs from iCloud USING my mobile device. If I delete a song from a playlist or from the device itself, it is still out there in iCloud and still shows up in the list of songs at my disposal. I DON'T want to cheat the system and turn off the settings feature that "shows all music" in iCloud because then I won't be able to see anything I have at my disposal in iCloud. I want to be able to see my songs in iCloud, but I want to be able to permanently delete from said iCloud songs that I don't care about anymore.
So how do I do it from iOS devices?
Please don't tell me it can't be done without iTunes on a computer. That will just irritate me and drive another nail in the coffin of my growing frustration with Apple.

I honestly don't think you can do it. Nothing I've found online allows you to do this, which is awful because these songs still show up and play when on shuffle. I've even selected "only show me music on this device" and I still see some songs I've deleted and are only on icloud and I have no option to swipe and delete. I'm with you... forcing me to do this on my pc when every other need for syncing has since been removed is very annoying.

  • Change of functionality in deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match with the 11.0.2 version of iTunes?

I updated to iTunes 11.0.2 and this version brought a change of wording regarding deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match, and I'd like to know if there are any changes in functionality to match the change in wording:
With version 11.0.2, when I try to delete any song (uploaded, matched or purchased) I'm presented with a pop-up dialog box that asks me if I'm sure and also gives me a "Also hide this song from iCloud?" option.
In prior iTunes versions the pop-up dialog box would ask instead "Also delete this song from iCloud?".
Has the functionality changed? If so, what's the difference in functionality between 11.0.2 and previous versions? If the functionality of deleting songs has changed, how do I delete an uploaded song from both my local library and iCloud/iTunes Match?

I am having the same issue- pelase could anyone help? Mods?

  • How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?

How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?
I subscribed to iTunes Match a few weeks ago and my entire library was uploaded.  I do not want all of my library in the Cloud, especially given that there is a space/song limitation.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Apologies Brandon, we have moved on somewhat from your original question.
What I have done is effectively used Michael's idea. I'll try to explain a little further.
You can run iTunes match on up to 5 computers, and you can edit the iCloud library on any of them. Michael's idea works on the basis that, whilst you can edit the iTunes library, you can't remove songs from other computers.
I have basically the same setup as you, but I also have a MacBook Air, which is running iTunes Match but without any music downloaded so it all streams.
I added the songs on my main library, which then added them to the cloud. When they appeared on my MacBook I deleted them straight away. As there was no local copy I was asked if I wanted to delete them from the cloud, and I said yes. When I went back to my main computer I found that, as expected, they were still there, but the iCloud status is "removed". They are therefore on my library but not in iCloud.
Since then I have run match updates a couple of times and there is no sign as yet that it will try to add them back to the cloud. It's too early to say that this is a definate answer to your problem, but it looks very hopeful.
Our other discussions have moved onto the 25,000 son limit, which I note from your comment you may also be interested in. Watch this space.
If you don't have access to a second computer to run the other library on then look back at Michael's post where he explains how to set it up on your main computer.
    Hope that clarifies a bit.

  • HT1689 how do i delete songs from my iTunes and have them also delete from my iPhone using iCloud

When i delete songs from my iTunes list the songs remain on my iPhone even though i have i Cloud

From your last post, it sounds as if you're hoping to stream music to your iPhone (and your computer) from iCloud, so when you delete songs from iCloud, they will also be deleted from your iPhone.
iTunes Match sort of does that, but not quite, as the songs you have played on an iOS device get stored there.
Here's a snippet from the iTunes Match writeup located at:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.

HOw do i delete songs from my itunes on my ipad?

    Staoter
Songs are normally stored on a computer, set-up as playlists and then synced to your IPAD through Itunes.  If you resync only the songs you want the undesired songs will be deleted.
    Does this help you?

  • Deleting songs from iCloud seems to not be working for me?

    Hello,
I'm having a huge problem currently. I have read the faqs on "How to delete songs from iCloud?" and understand it perfectly. But tonight I'm trying to delete this album out off my computer and it was deleted because I seen the album go straight to the trash. I emptied the trash can and for some reason when I go to click "Update iTunes Match". The album I deleted pops back up via iCloud. Now I then deleted that hoping the songs would delete from the iCloud also. Well loe and behold the songs came back again via iCloud. These aren't purchases made via iTunes. These are songs I've uploaded using a purchased music CD from Best Buy. And they seem to not be able to leave iCloud for some reason. No matter how many times I have to delete them.
Is there any way around this?
I have iTunes Match and I'm using a MacBook Pro (OS Mavericks).

    Hello Kitkat1017,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post it appears that you are both logged in to the same Apple ID in your Messages settings, which would cause you to get the same messages on both devices.  If you select "Send & Recieve" in your Messages settings, you will likely see the same Apple ID logged in on both devices.

  • HT4914 Why do I have to pay $ to delete songs from iCloud?

So you're telling me I have to PAY $24.99 per month to DELETE songs from iCloud? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

I think you are confusing iTunes purchases with iTunes Match.
What exactly are you trying to do?
You can not delete iTunes purchases but you can hide them so they don't show up on your devices:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases

  • Can I delete songs from my iTunes?

Can I delete songs from my iTunes account?

    Yes, but a different way.
Open up "Music" , navigate to the song(s) you wan tto get rid of, and swipe left on the song you want to delete. The "delete" icon will show up.
If you wish to delete all the songs:
    Settings > General > Usage > Music > Edit > Delete

  • So, how do I unhide and subsequently delete songs from iCloud? (help...)

I have been trying to sort my 25k+ library in the last few weeks (1243 purchaced from iTunes store and approx. 23,000 from my 20-years collection). After I managed to bring it to a healthy status it terms of artist name, song title, genre, album etc. they only thing that was annoying me was the album artwork. Before the new enhanced 'Find Artwork' feature in iTunes 11, I had used other third-party apps from the app store that they are supposed to find almum cover images...BUT the vast majority was "not good".
So, I concluded that a nice and neat solution would be to remove my entire 25k songs collection from my iTunes library (stored localy on my iMac) and from my iTunes match (store on i Cloud) and re-insert the songs, after of course I kept a backup.
My suspicions started when the message I got was "hide from iCloud" and not "delete from iCloud?" instead (iTunes 11.0.1).
I thought "they must have just rephrased the message in the new update", believing that the result would be, as anticipated, to actually remove the songs from iCloud, so I could continue with my plan... and therefore I clicked OK.
The big dissapointment was when I re-inserted my songs. None of the songs can now be detected and uploaded/matched in iTunes match, not even the the purchaced ones. All of my songs iCloud status is "Exceeded Limit".
I would like to know how I can a) unhide my songs that currenlty "lurk" on iCloud under my account and b) once I reveal them, to permanently remove them from my iCloud accound space, so I can re-insert my songs and get I nice complete (with artwork) library.
    Please help!

    Hi,
It think that that change from delete to hide is purely a change in phraseology. I don't believe that tracks were ever deleted and remained on the apple server. When you readd a previously uploaded track that you have deleted, match does not go through usual upload process - it immediately recognises that track as previously uploaded.
I have 38k tracks, around 23,500 matched /uploaded and 7.5k purchased. I also have around 8k with removed status. The removed tracks have previously been uploaded and deleted by creating a second blank library on which match has been activated to show only music in the cloud.
The fact that I have over 8k hidden track does not affect match - I am told that I have around 31k in the cloud including purchased songs.
I thing that your problem results from match thinking that you have more music than you really have. I had to sign out of match to clear a 4002 error. When I signed back in my library was scanned and I ended up with "exceeded limit" error. Previously I was able correct by restoring my library from a time machine back. Did not work this time as the 4002 error returned.
I noticed that the cloud status for "hidden" track were still shown as removed - none changed their status.
So I opened my second library that showed me that I still had less than 25k non purchased tracks.
My initial thought was that match was counting purchased tracks in limit. So I decided to delete around 7k tracks from second library to preserve play counts etc.
I went back into my main library and signed back into match. I now had 15k tracks with remove status leaving around 23k to be matched.
The match process to around three hours to complete. However, match told me that I had around 24.5k tracks in the cloud, not the 23k expected.
I found out that around 1500 tracks had been duplicated - the second track was only in the cloud I.e it showed download arrow. After deleting duplicates I gradually readded the "removed" tracks, small number at a time. Whilst this was time consuming the actual match process was quick because match remembered previous cloud status.
My library is now back to where I want it but I have deliberately kept non- purchased content to around 23k
Normally I keep signed into match but had another error forcing me to signout and sign back in. This time I was surprised how quick my library was restored.
During this process I found that a small number of track that were previously match were now uploaded even though files were match AAC.  Some purchase may become matched or uploaded.
    Trust this helps.

  • Accidentally deleted song from icloud

I just started using iMatch.  Alas I deleted a favourite song from iCloud.  It does not show up in hidden purchases (because I had the CD and didn't buy if from iTunes?)
The song doesn't appear on my computer iTunes, but it has been downloaded to my iPad.  I still have the CD, but how do I get the song back into the cloud?  I want to be able to sync it to all my devices( (even if it's there now, it may someday get unsynced, right?).
(I have been dealing with a duplicates issue and am using iMatch to sort it out.  Not without issues...)
    PM

Copy the song from the CD back into your iTunes Library, then update iTunes Match.

  • ITunes not playing songs from iCloud in Match

I keep 50% of my music library on an external HD. I subscribed to iTunes Match to be able to access my entire library when my HD isn't available (traveling, HD in sleep mode, etc.). But iTunes won't play any songs that are stored on my external HD when the HD isn't available, even when the songs were purchased on iTunes, and even when iTunes has matched them and shows them as "purchased." When I try to play the song, iTunes says the external HD isn't available, and offers to allow me to locate the song (which is impossible because I'm not near the external HD). Why won't it use the copy that's stored in iCloud? Isn't this the whole point of iCloud, i.e., to allow me to stream my music library from anywhere?
I have an active internet connection, and I've already updated Match and turned it off an on again. But iTunes won't play any of my songs from iCloud; only from my Macbook hard drive, which certainly isn't the point of Match.

Sorry Michael, but while this may not be considered a bug technically, it's REALLY poor design.  I have the same issue - I have too much music to store on my computer, so I store it on an external drive.  How does Apple expect people to figure out how to adjust for this "design"??  I'm an experienced mac user of over 20 years, and I didn't understand what was going on (aside from my external drive not being connected).  New iTunes/iCloud users are definitely not going to understand.  Saying this is simply how it's supposed to work is not acceptable.  Frankly, Apple has totally messed up their iCloud implementation - it's SO convoluted, especially if you have any iDevices.
For this issue, Apple really needs to change iTunes so that it's smart enough to stream music to a temp directory (and then have a setting in the Options in which you can empty it manually or according to a schedule, exiting iTunes, etc.), or at the very least, allow you to set up mulltiple libraries (which you can do manually, but iTunes doesn't track them at the same time).

  • How do I permanently delete songs from purchased list?

I have some songs that my x-husband purchased on our iTunes account that I want to permanently delete from the purchased list.  I don't want our son having any access to them either in iTunes or the Cloud for download to any other device.  Please help!!  I can't figure this out!!

    Delete them.
Turn off the cloud option in Edit > Preferences > Store > Show iTunes in the cloud purchases.

  • If I use home sharing, may I delete songs off my itunes or will that delete them off of all shared devices? For example, if songs are in my library from another family member that I do not want, can they be deleted without deleting them from theirs?

I have recently started home sharing with my family. I was wondering if I could delete music on my laptop's itunes or if because they are linked it would carry my actions over onto the other devices within home sharing. I don't want my itunes to be filled with my family members purchases, but would like to make sure that if I delete music on mine that it will not delete it for them as well.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That depends what you mean. Deleting content from your library won't delete anything from anyone else's. The content you delete from your library will not be available for homesharing with others though.
