Use ipod nano in the car

Hi,
I wanna use my ipod nano in the car. I know they have FM transmitter stuffs but I'd prefer not to have any bit of static and radio interference. So I asked my car dealer to install a headphone port in my car as an auxillary port (they said it's an ipod kit). But using with normal cable doesn't let me play around with ipod using the stereo buttons of the car. So I think what I need is a cable that has a dock connector at one end and a headphone port at the other. But it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. Any thought or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

What car do you have? Not all cars have the ability to do this look though here for other options to do that http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipodyourcar/

  • Questions using ipod nano in the car

    Hi !
I´m using my iPod in the car on an Alpine Car Stereo .
All things work perfect until I install the iPod-Update Firmware1.1.3
    Now I have problems like:
The iPod doesn´t remind the last titles; that means: today I´m hearing "Rock" and if I
turn on the radio tomorrow morning, it´s searching for the iPod an than begins to play the
first of 350 songs (for example)
And I find out, that the iPod battery is empty. Normally it get´s loaded by using it during a ride.
    Any suggestions about that ??
Are there any special things I have to switch in the iPod menue or what ?
    Thanks in advance !

First thing to check is the Shuffle function of the iPod. Shuffle should be set to OFF to work with the Alpine correctly and when you updated the firmware it may have reset the iPod to default to turning the Shuffle feature ON.

  • Charging iPod Nano in the car

From other posts in this area it seems that the iPod Nano is able to be charged via an Apple Firewire/iPod cable but it will not sync (transfer tunes) via the Firewire cable.
This seems OK provided that I can continue to use my Griffin car charger to charge the Nano (I connect my current iPod headphone socket to an iFire amplifier and then directly to the car speakers
    (see http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/aoaug/macosx.html#hifi )
Also I should be able to use my old iPod AC adapter with the firewire cable to the iPod dock connector. My main requirement is to be able to charge the iPod Nano will travelling when I dont have access to a computer with USB.
This all depends on being able to use the connector cable from the previous model iPod (20Gb) with teh Nano.

Yes your old iPod chargers will work as long as you can use a cable that connects to the bottom of the iPod (dock connector)
Also any charging accessory should work again as long as it can be connected as the iPods all required the same charge voltage, etc.

  • Using iPod Mini in the car!

My boyfriend just got a new car and I want to get him something so he can use his iPod in the car. We used the tape adaptor in his old car, it wouldnt okay but he wants something better.
He is intrested in the iTrip but I have heard that it doesn't work that well. I want to know what you guys think - I am not looking for the cheapest solution. I want good quailty at a fairly reasonable price.
I see there are new iTrips with an LCD however they wont fit 'right' on the mini, they will work but will sit off center. There is another one coming out that uses the dock connector but then you can not charge it and listen at the same time.
I did find this on the apple site
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/canadastore.woa/70609/wo/cO2Xen orCQg32EU4hVM1tg9vqQG/2.SLID?mco=EF8F05F6&nplm=TC100LL%2FA
and it will fit nicely on top of the mini.
Anyway, any input would be nice!

b Various Methods to Connect to a Car Stereo System, or Listen to Your iPod in the Vehicle
    b Best:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack of your iPod, to the mini-jack input (or AUX RCA input jacks) of your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units may have this feature.
There are also some after-market, moderate to fairly expensive direct interfaces, that hook into your existing car stereo to provide a high-quality, direct connection. Most will also power/charge the iPod. Pretty slick, but can be pricey ($80-$300). If money is no object, a clean way to go. Not very portable from car to car – if at all.

    b Better:
Connect your iPod to a cassette adaptor and play your tunes through your car's cassette player. Some new cars no longer come with a cassette player, so it may not be an option. It will provide even better audio quality if you can run the audio feed out of the dock connector (see the SendStation link below). Can be portable between cars that have a cassette player and also be used in your home cassette system.
    b Good:
Attach an FM transmitter to your iPod and play the tunes through an unused FM station. Convenient, but wireless FM transmitter signals are susceptible to static and outside interference, and can vary in strength and quality depending on your location. Some noticeable degradation and distortion, depending on the quality of the transmitter, the sensitivity of your ears and the airwave congestion in your area. Highly portable between cars, and may be used in a home system. FM transmitters that need to be plugged into a DC auto jack may not work in a home environment (without some sort of adaptor).
    b Marginal:
Attach an external speaker system to the iPod and play it in the car. Workable, but not too good - unless you spring for a $300+ Bose (or similar) system. But why? Only if your vehicle has no Stereo system, perhaps.
    b Brave Techno-Geek:
This site gives some direction on adapting your own car stereo by yourself: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ . Risky, but it has been successful.
Whichever you choose, power the iPod through your car’s DC power -- either from a power adapter, or as part of the combined audio adaptor. Have a method to secure the iPod to the dash/console/etc. See the reviews for all the various accessories at the iLounge
You will also get better audio output if the dock connection plug is used, rather than the headphone jack. See this URL for a novel adaptor: https://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pd_lousb.html. Others types are also available via this site.
I have read positive and negative reviews of each method, and within method there are great variations in performance of different manufacture's systems – and peoples’ opinions of their performance. Some cassette adaptors/FM transmitters work poorly, some better.
FWIW: I have the iTrip Mini & the Newer Technology RoadTrip!+ FM transmitters, a Belkin cassette adaptor (used both with & w/out the PocketDock) and two vehicles with the BlitzSafe direct interface. Using the same song in the same car, I found that the FM transmitters worked, but not as good as the cassette adapter via the headphone jack. Using the PocketDock on the cassette adapter resulted in a significant audio quality improvement. As expected, the Blitzsafe direct connect was exceptionally better than everything else: less tinny, a more warmer/richer sound, and close to true CD quality.

  • Listen iPod nano in the car

Hello, I want to listen my iPod nano in my Subaru Legacy car. I've bought USB to aux cable, connected one end to iPod and another end to car's USB port. It does not recognize iPod as USB device. Please advice how could I connect my iPod to USB in the car?

Is your head unit in the Legacy iPod compatilble. If yes does it require a special cable?
    Your solution could not work.

  • Left iPod nano in the car, having problems

Left the nano on the seat by accident on an 80ish degree day. I think it's fried but I want to be sure. Basically it loads up fine, and the computer recognizes it and everything, but the wheel and buttons won't work.
The funny part is the buttons still work to reset the iPod which I've done 4 or 5 times to no avail, so I know the buttons aren't really broken. They just won't navigate past the "Language" screen. Any ideas I can try before I toss it?

You didn't mention if you had tried restoring it. If your PC recognizes it, then try it; otherwise, it might be history.

  • How to use iPod shuffle in the car. What cable should I use

When I connect my shuffle to car.  It says ipod authorization failed. What can I do now?

If you are talking about a small, 3.5mm round hole, which looks like a headphone jack, it will accept any standard audio input. This is standard on all Seats.
Many companies label these as "mp3 port" or "aux-in" because it sounds cooler and more "sophisticated".
Just use a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable.
    From http://www.seat.co.uk/
"The Seat is available with either a connection which allows an iPod to be integrated into the vehicle or a special connection for all USB memory devices and MP3 audio players with a USB port. _There is also an Aux-in audio connection as standard, which allows external audio sources to be plugged into the standard headphone socket and the sound played through the vehicle's speakers_."

Call Apple Care.   You are still under warranty.  You also have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your iPod with no questions asked.

  • I purchased an used iPod nano 4th with many many songs on it,but when i hooked the usb cable to try and change the name, something went wrong.i had to reset it,thinking my music would still be there, but i lost everything! Is there any way to get these back

I purchased an used iPod Nano 4th.with many, many, many songs and albums on it,but when i plugged the usb cable into my laptop(i am a new comer to computer) i thought i was changing the name and thought i was syncing but something went wrong and everything was gone! is there any way possible to get these back? Please I need Help!!! Thank you!

Was the music purchased via your iTunes account and/or did you buy it from other sources or copy it from your own CDs, or did the music belong to the previous owner ? If the music was yours then you can sync it back to the iPod via your computer's iTunes. If the music is not still on your computer then have you got a backup of it ? If not then for iTunes purchases you might be able to re-download it depending on which country you are in. If the music was put on the iPod by the previous owner then you will need to buy your own copies of it.

  • I bought a used ipod nano and it is associated to another itunes account. How can I change the itunes account to mine so I can register it to my account?

I bought a used ipod nano for my daughter and when I tried to register it, I got a message advising that it is registered to another iTunes account. How can I remove that association and associate it to our iTunes account?

Restore it in iTunes on your computer.
There is a difference between registering with Apple and using it with iTunes. To register it (which isn't necessary) you would have to get the previous owner to de-register it.

  • Ipod Nano 7th Generation Car Radio Controls via USB Cable.

When I use my USB connection in my Hyundai for my ipod nano 7th generation, instead of playing what it was playing when I plugged it in, as it did with my previous nano, it plays random songs and I cannot navigate to podcasts I want to listen to as the navigation is clumsy and displays file names which are meaningless to me. How do I get it to play what I want to in my car?

It does not matter, as i stated this happened to me doing both. Currently I am using it now with the car, I got a newer car last week. But I think when I get out of the car it pauses anyways. I have noticed that if pauses I don't touch it, it stays on the same song for maybe 1 day.
If I don't use car for 3-4 days, it starts over again. That shouldn't matter though, if I did turn it off? I need help.......

  • How do I run 2 ipod nanos on the same itunes on the same computer?

Hi We now have 2 ipod nanos in the house, one 2nd generation and the other 3rd generation. How do we use the same computer with itunes set up for each nano's music? Many Thanks

No need to re-import CDs again. As long as the files are on computer in a directory accessible to logged in user then they can be added to library.
Files added in one library are not automatically added to any other library. Each library is independent of the others except in the case of deleted files. If one library deletes a file from library and disc then the other library will still have entry in iTunes but will have "!" next to it because the file itself is gone.

  • My daughter disconnected her iPod nano from the lead before ejecting the device.  It no longer syncs and we have re-set the device, but it now only occasionally appears on the computer screen any suggestions please?

Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
