Use LabVIEW FPGA as a DAQ and detect peak

Hi everyone, need your help now.
I want to use Labview to encode a FPGA to achieve following function:
1.Acquire data as a DAQ from a Photodetector
2.then use peak detect VI to measure the peak information
3. some simple mathematical operations
is it possible for me to achive all these only using one FPGA? and is it OK to connect DAQ's output and the input of the peak detect VI?
thanks a lot. I am a beginner, so it confused me a lot.

Hi
What is you hardware? cRIO? FlexRIO?  And what your signal type? Anolog or digital?
You can refer to the help of Peak detect.vi to comfirm if the data (sigle point integer or integer array ) can be wired directly. I am afraid you can not wire the FPGA IO OUT directly to the Peak detect.vi, but you can create a array for the data and then use the peak detect.vi

  • How can I install (download) a Labview FPGA code onto Altera FPGA chip using Labview FPGA module?

    Hi there
Guys i'm a very new labview user (PhD student), my project is about ( design and implementation of a high speed-yet sophisticated system using Labview environment then install this project's code (using Labview FPGA module) onto Altera-made FPGA chip).
so kindly, can any body help me in this?...is there any way to connect labview with Altera FPGA?...please anything would be said 'd be of great benifits
    thanks a lot in advance.

as previously mentioned, labview fpga only supports national instruments targets utilizing xilinx fpgas. the hdl generated by labview fpga is encrypted and cannot be used to synthesize a design outside the labview fpga design flow.
however, if you must use labview for your project, it might be possible for you to design the system in labview and use one of the labview embedded modules ( http://www.ni.com/embedded )to generate c code which you can then port to systemc and compile for the altera fpga. i'm not saying it will be easy, but it should be possible.

    Dear,
I am working on   implementing dynamic systems modeled ordinary  differential equations on PXI-7811R FPGA using labview FPGA. Is there any body who can help me how to implement differential equation on PXI devices uding Labview FPGA, please? Is there any integrator in Labview FPGA, module. I used Discrete Integerator in LAbview FPGA  module in Maths palette, but i hesistated if it really works . I really appreciate your help,

Thank you for posting on the discussion forum.
You can solve differential equations using LabVIEW FPGA but you may run into some significant difficulties in doing so. If you are not tied to using FPGA, you could try using LabVIEW real-time, which may make things much easier. But if you would like to stick with FPGA, see the link below for a list of examples that may be helpful:
    http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/ssnav:ipn/q/differential%20e...
Below is a link that you can review to better understand the functionality of the discrete integrator should you choose to go that route:

CODE WARRIOR Hello. I believe this question was answered in a previous post. Please let us know if you have any new questioins or if you need some clarification.
You are able to develop device drivers for your custom hardware using the NI Measurement Hardware Driver Development Kit.
However, it is not possible to use custom FPGA boards with LabVIEW FPGA. The FPGA boards have to be one of our R Series boards. Here are some links that should shed some light on the Measurement Hardware DDK.

  • Performance comparison---using LABVIEW..between Embedded and general-purpose Intel's single VS multi-core CPU

    hi guys;
kindly, can any one tell me : is it possible to use Labview installed on desktop pc to show up statistically the main performance key features between mutlicore systems and single core systems but with (two versions, embedded and general purpose CPU) . in other words: I'm trying to resemble embedded cpu with general purpose CPU so that i can only work on Desktop pc than say that the obtained results are the same for embedded multicore CPU.
to get things more clear:...embedded multicore processors are now hitting the embedded market segments such as (small and portable devices with internet, multimedia and wimax tech. enabled that take advantage of recent multicore tech.).
general-puroses Multicore processors: like desktop and servers based processors,
according to what 've read, Intel is producing same processor model but with different applications : (embedded and general-purposes applications)

    Hello,
Please look at this page which shows a new feature in LabVIEW 2009, but particularly interesting is the video which shows the performance benefits on a PC platform of single core VS multicore.
LabVIEW doesn't have any ability to emulate a multi-core embedded processor (unless its an intel x86 processor that labVIEW supports!) so to discover the performance benefits of embedded multicore processors, you would need an external hardware board and devise a test in which labVIEW can measure the timing via an external pin toggled by a program running on the embedded processor that could utilise multiple cores (there may be other ways but this is the way that comes to my mind).
    I hope this helps you!

  • I have some question on "Use LabVIEW to Control two DSP and RTDX"

I have some question when writing LabVIEW. I have DSP6711 and DSP6416, I use RTDX to send data to LabVIEW.
I write three programes for LabVIEW, one is RTDX for DSP6711, another is RTDX for DSP6416, and the final is RTDX for two DSPs.
The program of LabVIEW is workable when doing DSP6711 or doing DSP6416. But there is some problem when running DSP6711 and DSP6416 on LabVIEW at the same time.
How to tell the LabVIEW's tool of " RTDX read" to  get the datas from different DSP

What you want to do should be fairly straightward and a good way to learn labview.
First off, if you haven't already, I would download the drivers for the Keithley and Agilent instruments.  I found the keithley drivers at the link below.  You will need to find the labview drivers for the Agilent PS at their website.  Drivers are the VI's you will use in your program to control the insturments.
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=E3B19B3E90B0659CE034080020E74861
If you open Labview and go to the help menu and click on Labview bookshelf there is alot of information on getting you started coding labview.   This should get you started, if you have anymore questions just ask in this same thread and I am sure you will get all the help you need.

  • Using Labview on a non-daq board device

How would one go about using a device, connected through USB, in labview that doesn't have a daq board? I have a signal monitor that I've managed to get to work with C++ and was wondering if there was a way to integrate it with Labview at all. I hope that makes sense.

If they've provided a DLL then you can use the Call Library Function Node to call the DLL. You should read the chapter in the LabVIEW Help on calling code from external languages. If it's a C++ DLL you may have problems because LabVIEW only supports C DLL, not C++. A common issue is name mangling. If you do a search on the NI site for "DLL name mangling" you will come across several Knowledge Base articles that discuss this issue. Another common problem is that if the DLL uses complex datatypes (such as structures with strings inside, or pointers to complex structures then you will need to write a wrapper DLL that converts simple datatypes that LabVIEW can handle to the complex datatypes that the DLL uses. Again, there is a wealth of information on the NI site on calling DLLs, so a search will yield lots of information.

  • Problem with the analog input acquisition in labview fpga 8.5.1 and CRIO

     Hello all,
I am using NI CRIO 9104 RT controller with 9014 FPGA chassis.I am using an Analog input module 9205.My problem is with the acquisition.I am using a
function generator which generates some sine wave of -1 to 1 ,5hz to125khz sine signal and i have connected to 9205 in rse mode.In FPGA vi i had placed the I/O node and placed an indicator(data type FXP).If i connect the i/o node to a chart or graph,i am not able to see the output.?How this problem can bbe solved
Next i had placed a FIFO in DMA transfer mode of depth 1023 which will accept the U32 datatype,so i did some manipulation as mentioned in a tutorial.
Now in RT VI i am reading the same data from the buffer in U32 and doing the reverse manipulation i am able to view the data. Now the problem is ..if i am
increasing the frequency of the input signal, the data is completly lost ?How can i overcome this problem...
    thanks in advance,

Difficult to see where is the problem ....
Be sure you are doing a good RT system by grabing reference design examples
Don't forget to specify the DMA FIFO size in the RT code
Doesn't matter the size of the DMA size under the FPGA project explorer.
Upload your code, You will get answers...

  • I am looking to use Labview to capture an image and store it.

I also want to tag other data onto the image so that I can place the image in context i.e. orientation and positioning. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Pinki2k;
You may want to take a look at IMAQ, which can be used along with LabVIEW for what you want. Another alternative may be IVision from HYtek Automation.
You will get better answers if you post this question in the Vision forum.

  • How do i open and control other programs using labview?

I'm presently trying to use labview to try to open and operate another program, but having much difficulty. The external program i'm using is called the Foundation program.
This Foundation program will use VHDL programming to create a virtual chip and then synthesising it.This program will then simulate the output of this VHDL program to verify that it is working as desired. Then the last stage is to download the whole VHDL program into a FPGA chip using a xilinx cable.
All this need to be done using a labview program - to open the Foundation program and then extract the saved file and then to execute the download command to cause the VHDL program to be downloaded onto the FPGA chip. How do i go
about doing all this? What is the first step i must do.Also all this have to be done thru networking..looks like its too difficult..I really need help.
    grays

I haven't done VHDL so pardon my ignorance.
LabVIEW can call external DLL via "Call Library Function" or C programs via "Code Interface Node", both located in "Advanced" function.
If your program is a DOS program, use "System Exec.vi" found in "Communication" function. If you need to format your DOS command prior to sending it, use the "Format Into String" function in "String" function palette.
Lastly, if you're trying to extract data, assuming it is text, use "File I/O" functions. If the data is binary, use "File I/O -> Binary File VIs".
Hope that answers most of your questions.

  • Complete hardware simulation using LabView, Multisim, and MAX (easy answer accepted!)

    Hello, all!
Sorry, I'm new, but I've checked around for a definitive answer on this, but I'm not 100% sure.  I'm learning LabView for an upper-division Physics class.  We're using NI hardware (DAQ-MX) and a mix of lab hardware - primarily basic stuff such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and breadboards with simple components.  I'm also doing some work with NIM instrumentation, but that's secondary to my needs here.  So, when I'm away from school, is it possible to do a complete simulation of my classwork using LabView, Multisim (for my breadboard), and the Measure and Automation Explorer (for the DAQ-MX)?  I know that I can create a circuit and drop it into Labview, but I'm not so sure about the DAQ.  I'm hoping for something that's a "seamless" recreation of what I'm doing in class.  I can take a simple "yes" or "no"; as long as I know that it's possible, I can look for the solution.
    Thanks for the help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have an easy answer and a harder answer:
    Easy Answer
You can simulate almost any NI instrument in MAX.  Right click the Devices and Interfaces item in the left pane and select Create New...  Unfortunately, this limits you to whatever the driver designer thought would be a good signal.  It is good for simple testing, but you will rapidly run into its limitations.
    Harder Answer
Use LabVIEW classes to make a hardware abstraction layer.  This my seem like an advanced topic for a beginning LabVIEW programmer, and it is, but it also neatly solves the problem of switching between simulation VIs and real acquisition VIs without writing a bunch of switching code.  In short, you create a LabVIEW class which has the interface you want for you data acquisition.  This can be your simulation code.  You then create a child class which has exactly the same interface, but uses the DAQmx/NI-SCOPE/NI-DMM/etc. that you really want to use.  Switching between the two is as simple as selection the class you want to use at run time.  This is a lot of info in a short time.  If you want to go this route, read the LabVIEW help on LabVIEW classes and work through the examples.  I would encourage you to do this, since the sooner you learn how to effectively use object-oriented LabVIEW, the easier your life will be.
As a further bit of information, most of the measurement instrument groups (e.g. NI-SCOPE, NI-FGEN, NI-DMM, etc.) allow you to simulate an instrument if you use the open with options VI instead of the standard open VI.  The inputs are rather arcane, but get the job done.
