Use Laptop As Alarm Clock

I read in Macworld magazine a while ago that you could set up your macbook to use as an alarm in the morning. how do you do this.
Has anybody tried it. If so how do you get to this point.
Regards

You can schedule a time for your macbook to start up every morning by going to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Schedule > then select startup or wake at a specific time.
You can then have certain applications launch at startup; for instance, you can select iTunes to launch at startup. You do this by right clicking on the iTunes icon in the dock and select "open at login."

  • HT1414 My iPhone 4 has recently started shutting off overnight. I have to power it back up each morning to use it again thus preventing me from being able to use the basic alarm clock feature.

How do I correct this recent issue where my iPhone 4 powers down overnight? It started shutting down as if I turned off the phone. It began around three or four weeks ago in December 2013. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I bought my iPhone 4 in January 2010 and use Verizon cellular service.

At first I suspected a bad connection with a Sharper Image charging dock. But I find that it shuts off overnight even when I don't charge it. I can have it charged up at night, not go to use it until the next morning and have to hit the Home key either with a quick double-click or long hold down on Home key until the Aplle logo appears, in order to be able to use the phone again. I have not resorted to wiping the iPhone to full restore yet.

  • Can I use my iphone with a Bluetooth speaker as an alarm clock?

    Good morning!
I use my iPhones alarm functionality to get me up and out in the morning. I was wondering if I had a Bluetooth speaker would the alarm sound thru it?
    A thousand thank!!
    N

bluetooth is likely closed when the iphone is suspended if not then you could use it as alarm clock but
bluetooth use battery so if not connected to AC it would likely suck your iphone dry in the night

  • Problems using alarm clock feature

Is there a way to use only the alarm clock feature with all the other sounds (call, text, and email alerts) disabled, without going to each one and disabling them individually before bed? thank you!

To hear just the alarm, just flip the silent switch on the side of the phone. The alarm will still sound.

  • Is it safe for iPhone to run alarm clock app and be on all night, every night?

Is it safe for the screen to be on all night every night running an alarm clock app? Yes it is plugged in and charging.

I use the builtin alarm clock app all the time without any problems.
I don't plug the iPhone in because it appears to use very little battery while it is sleeping.

  • Samsung Juke Alarm Clock Not Working

I love my Samsung Juke and really do not want to replace it, but now my alarm clock is failing on me. I set it to go off two days ago. It never went off, yet the alarm was still set to "on". I even left the alarm on until today to see if it ever would. Nope. I also set two other alarms at different times. Same problem. My phone seemed to have this same issue around the new year of 2011 as well but a quick restart fixed it. It didn't work this time. Is there something I can do or am I doomed to use an actual alarm clock that wakes me up in a terrible mood?
Help! I love my little blue swivel brick!

Hi there taintedlove908! Regarding the alarm function on your Samsung Juke... When the time arrives for the alarm to alert you, does the device simply remain dormant and quiet or does it light up silently? What I'm trying to determine is if this is a feature failure within the phone or an audio issue. Thanks for your patience. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Ihandy alarm clock pro no sound

I have used the ihandy alarm clock for a few years on my 3GS no problems.
It's great as you can set the alarm to your choice of music and give the phone a shake to snooze rather than push buttons
Since upgrading to an iphone 5 the alarm has failed to go off on three occasions... slept in once, wife's alarm got me off the hook the other twice
The first time I thought I had forgot the alarm or had the sound turned off. All other sounds on the phone were silent. A reset fixed things
The second time the display showed that the alarm was running but there was no sound. A reset was required to get any sound out of any application
On both occasions the sound button was set to on.
I wasn't able to reproduce the problem and neither was the person at the Apple store but they replaced the phone THANK YOU
That was a week ago and it has been fine till this morning... same problem, saved by my wife's alarm
There are a few posts about similar irrefular problems but no apparent conclusive solution
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Peter

I've had the same problem with the iHandy alarm clock on my iPhone 4.  Sometimes the alarm works fine, but randomly (twice per month?) it will appear to be alarming, but with no sound.  Once that happens, there's no sound from any app, and I can only fix it by rebooting the phone.
I've tried checking the sound on the phone every night before going to sleep, but even that's not a reliable precaution.  One time the alarm sounded normally at the alarm time - I pressed snooze and went back to sleep - then the alarm failed to sound at the snooze time.
I switched back this week to the "12,24 Alarm Clock Sleep Music" app - it's an older app and doesn't have as many features as iHandy, but I haven't had reliability problems with it.
I wonder if iHandy's "background alarm" functionality somehow conflicts with the iOS?  The 12,24 clock doesn't have that feature, which is one of the reasons I switched to iHandy clock - but it's more important to have a reliable alarm.

  • Iphone alarm clock didn't work this morning

I set a one-time alarm two days ago and it worked (it went off at 8:20am). This morning at 1:00am, I turned this alarm on again. But it didn't go off. So I did a test: set the alarm time to 10:00am and the alarm didn't go off. Fortunately, I used my wife's phone as a backup.
So the alarm problem is not fixed by itself (The claim by apple that it would be fixed automatically after Jan. 3rd is not true). It seems that this problem only happen during weekend?
The clock app on iphone is just a toy, don't count on it!!! Apple don't have any programmer to fix this problem or just don't care about the users. Apple is becoming another Microsoft.

Apple does care about this issue, the problem is being worked on.
For anything remotely important ALWAYS use a real alarm clock. Never depend on any cell phone for critical functions.
The alarm clock on my iPhone is working perfectly.

  • How can I turn my Mac using iTunes into an alarm clock?

Here's my question: How can I turn my Mac, using iTunes, into an alarm clock?
I want to be able to put my Mac to sleep but have it set up so that when it wakes up at the predetermined time iTunes will open and start playing the music I've selected....
    A "musical alarm clock"...
A friend suggested using the Energy Saver option in Sys. Preferences to wake the computer at the right time. He said that then I could use iCal to start iTunes. I would then have to use an Apple Script to get iTunes to play the song I want.
But is there a SIMPLER way to do this? Are there any programs out there that do this already??
    Thanks for any help....

I recently got a copy of AlarmClock Pro from MacWorld UK. It is shareware, I think it is (USD?)19. I haven't had a chance to try it out much, but it does look quite good. I have an older version. The latest version looks even better.
I'm sure there's plenty of freeware apps out there. You might also want to try looking here for an applescript here Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

  • Docking/Using as alarm clock

    Hi all,
This is my first post here so I apologise if I seem a bit simple - I've only had my iPhone 3G 8 days.
I'm looking for a number of accessories for my iPhone. I have the case and the car adaptor sorted but would like a dock.
What I need in my dock -
    - Good looks
    - Good sound Quality
    - An alarm clock (hopefully which can use any of the tunes on my iPhone for the alarm)
    - Is compatible with the iPhone 3G (no airplane mode or incompatibilites leading to no charging)
    - Generally quite easy to use but not too simple either (much like the iPhone not a simple system but very easy to use)
    All your recommendations welcome,
    Thanks

Posted below is the link to all the audio dock speaker sets that work with iPhone 3G

As far for as which are easy to use and get the most done. Not anyone I can really recommend. It depends on the budget you have set. And what features you are looking for in the long run. Most if not all of them seem to charge the iPhone while it is docked.
There are a couple Alarm clock based stations listed below that I found.

  • Alarm Clock giving weird notification when using song

When using my alarm clock with the new song feature, I am getting a notification that says "Download over cellular? Additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular." Options are Cancel or Download. The songs I have chosen are already on my iPhone so there should be 0 reason to have to download anything. Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Andrew

Goto Settings--> General--> Cellular--> Is your cellular Data on? I turned mine off and it fixed the problem. You may also want to check Settings--> iTunes&App stores--> Use cellular Data and set to off so you don't eat up data on wifi. Some people have had big charges when left on.

  • Using my Mac as alarm clock

Hi- I notice in the Sys Prefs under Energy saver you can get the Mac to Startup (or Shutdown) at specific times.
The problem is you can only set Weekends, Weekdays, Every Day or ONE day in the week. I work Saturdays but not Mondays, so I need to set the Mac to wake at 6:00 on Tues-Sat inc, and not on Sun/Mon.
Can the Mac do this on it's own (Automator?), or will I need a bit of shareware?
    Thanks muchly!

There's nothing more reliable than a windup alarm clock that you set every night... What if there's a power outage?
Here's another one that looks pretty good (never used it myself) and it's donationware.
    http://www.robbiehanson.com/alarmclock/index.html
If you leave your Mac ON all the time (using only display sleep) like I do, you can create a repeating event in iCal that sounds an alarm. I think it can also run a script, which can be used to launch iTunes and play a specific playlist. But I don't think iCal will wake up your Mac if it is sleeping.

  • Using the alarm clock

I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the Alarm Clock feature on my iPod. If I set the alarm for a time that's only a minute or two in the future, it seems to work just fine. However, if I set it for ten minutes (or more) in the future, then just set it down, the iPod times out and shuts off after a few minutes of non-use. Then, when the alarm time comes around, nothing happens.
Is the alarm clock supposed to be able to "turn on" the iPod when it is off? If so, why wouldn't it be doing it? If not, how do I prevent my iPod from turning off, so that the alarm will work?

Go to Extras > Clock > Sleep timer.
    Try setting it to off.

  • HT1222 So do you all use timer more than alarm clock for iPhone 5?  pane?

I find myself using alarm clock all the time and not the timer under the bottom quick control pane. Why hasn't Apple changed that?
