Use Linksys WAP54G as wireless repeater with BTHom...

I have been trying all day to use an 'old' Linksys WAP54G to act as a wireless repeater, so I can do wireless internet in a far corner of our house. I presume that this has already been done successfully by one of our forum members? Anybody that can help me please and point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Did you find a solution? Or does the 2.0 not allow additional wireless access points? Help! Have just spent lots of time and money building a home office in the garden which is essentially redundant if I can't get broadband and don't want to run a cable out to it.
Thank you so much.

  • Using a WAP54G as a repeater for E2500 router

I have an E2500 wireless N router that I recently bought to replace a cheapie netgear that I lent to family.  The router is in the basement near a bunch of metal ducting and I live near a radio station, both of which I believe is killing my signal.  Anyways, I was able to pick up a WAP54G wireless access point.  I would like to use it as a wired repeater (hopefully to get the signal up into the upper levels of my house).  Can I use the WAP54G with the E2500?  I looked in the setup page when I was trying to set it up as a repeater, and it says it will only connect with another WAP54G or a WRT54G (linksys wireless g router).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Setup for using the WAP54G as Wireless Accesspoint, with a cable connection from the WAP54G to your router is pretty straightforward.
The default IP address of a WAP54G is 192.168.1.245.
If your router is at the default address 192.168.1.1, you can directly cable connect the WAP54G to the router.
Then open a webbrowser and access the WAP54G at its default address 192.168.1.245, default password "admin".
If that all succeed sofar you can leave the WAP54G LAN settings at default.
Just adapt the Wireless settings to your wishes: set a SSID, unique and different then your router, set a channel, unique and different then your router, set the wireless security type and passphrase (I suggest the same as your router).
In the Password Tab you set your own password to access the WAP54G for future configuration.
All the rest can be left default.
Power cycle the WAP54G after all your changes, you should now be able to wireless connect to the WAP54G with its own SSID and wireless security settings and you should have Internet access through the WAP54G.

  • Can you add one of these range expander to a router that is using a WAP54g as a repeater?

I have a WRT54G router and a WAP access Point that I have setup as a repeater. I am working in a big house and there are still dead spots in the coverage. I was wondering if you can add an expander or another access point to further my range? I know which is cheapest, so which is easiest? and can an expander even work with the current equipment I mentioned?

well , as you already have one wap54g working in a repeater mode and must be knowing the configurations i would recommend you to use another wap54g in repeater which will make the job simpler for you

  • How do I use a Verizon PC Wireless card with my iMAC Intel Core desktop?

Help! Bought a Kyocera KPC650 Wireless PC Card for Verizon wireless internet. Works fine w/ laptop because it has a slot. How do I configure my iMAC desktop to accept this card? Is there an external USB adapter? Or do I have to get one installed internally? Which adapter works with OX 10.4?
I've seen the Quatech U132 online. Will that work? Its $192!! As is the Sewell adapter too. ($209)
Any ideas? I want to get off SBCYahoo DSL and their router because our DSL line is damaged in our complex and no one is fixing it!
    Thanks in advance.

What protocol is Verizon using that is not compatible with the Airport Extreme built into your iMac? I have used Apple's Airport Extreme with a lot of different wireless routers with zero problems as all conform to either 802.11b or 802.11g standard both of which are supported by the built in Airport Extreme.

  • Possible to use non-AT&T wireless card with iPad??

Thinking of getting an iPad, however I travel frequently and after looking at the outlandish prices for international data plans, I am about ready to give up on the idea. Anyone know if it is possible to use a non-AT&T wireless card with the iPad? I'm guessing there would be a compatibility issue of some sort.

The 3G iPad is not locked to a particular service provider. You can get a local Sim card and data plan in many countries. This article will give you some idea of what's available: http://gigaom.com/2010/05/10/ipad-data-plan-guide/

  • Can i use my smartphone as wireless headphones with apple tv so I don't disturb my wife when I'm up working late

I've seen that there are a few apps like LocalCast on Android that allow you to use the phone as wireless headphones - is there a way of doing so with Apple TV??

no but you can get tons of solutions where you connect something to your tv's minijack headset connector and then it wireless transfer the audio signal to a headset
there are both bluetooth solutions belkin have one I use and there are also solutions where the headset is included and they use their own custom protocol
but mind you there is no way to keep such setups in sync in terms of video and audio so if the system is poor in quality or pre-process the audio signal too much it cause audio and visuals to get out of sync

  • Using Airport Express as Wireless Repeater upstairs?

    Greetings,
I have a recent Netgear WNDR4000 WIFI router situated in my home "network closet" downstairs. I'm noticing that sometimes I loose connection upstairs and even though it is probably not the greatest placement to keep the router in this box, that is what I have to work with. (All ethernet connections end up in thies area neatly)
This particular router has a repeating feature you can use with other products so essentially am I correct in understanding that if I place the airport express upstairs and plug it into ethernet 9Tied into the WNDR4000), it will then repeat the 2.4 and 5Ghz signals it is already sending?
    //Cheers

Most likely not for two reasons: 1) Most non-Apple routers are NOT WDS-compatible so there is no guarentee that the AirPort Express can extend the wireless range of the Netgear via a wireless connection, and 2) Although the AirPort Express supports both 2.4 & 5 GHz radio bands, it can only operate on one or the other ... so, even if it could extend the Netgear, it would only extend one of the Netgear's radios.

  • Wireless repeater with WRT54G

Is it possible to configure the WRT54G as a repeater signal of the WRT120N?

No you cannot. There is no option for that in the WRT54G. What you can is connect the 2 routers with ethernet cable and set the WRT54G as the secondary router and you can still use the same wireless settings. But the WRT54G cannot be set as a stand alone device.

  • How to use shortcut keys on wireless keyboard with ipad

i just purchased an ipad 4 with a wireless keyboard and do not know how to use the function keys on the wireless keyboard to access the homescreen, scroll up and down, etc.  please help with anything i need to turn on/off or download . thanks

If you have more than one keyboard active, you may be using a different one than you want.  Use the "globe" key to make sure your virtual keyboard is set to Japanese Romaji or Japanese Kana.  Which one do you use?
On the hardware keyboard, use apple/command plus space to switch between different keyboard layouts which may be active.

  • How to use both wired and wireless connection with static addresses

Now that I have setup my home network with static addresses (router, mini1, mini2 and PC) in the way I want, (big thanks to BDAqua http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1271635&tstart=0) I would like to understand some more advanced network concepts.
I would like to change the network so that I use both the wireless connection and the built-in ethernet connection at the same time in my Mac mini1. I would like to connect my PC to my Mac mini by using the wired ethernet connection so that I reach the Internet from my PC as well. I would also like to be in control of all the addresses therefore I want to assign the addresses manually.
The question: What addresses should I use between mini1 and PC? Should I use the same wireless address space as I already use between the wireless router and the other computers (router: 192.168.1.1, mini1: 192.168.1.101, mini2: 192.168.1.103) or should I use something totally different like 10.X.X.X? What should I put in ethernet connection "Router"-field, the same as in Airport (192.168.1.1)? What about DNS, same as in Airport?

If I understand this correctly, you wish your Mini to perform Internet Sharing for your PC, correct!?
If so you'll pretty much have to let the Mini handle DHCP & NAT on the Ethernet port. You also want to be sure Airport is dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, that's what position the Mini will use 1st for Internet itself.
On the Mini turn on both Web Sharing & Internet Sharing. The PC once connected will have the Mini's Ethernet IP as it's Gateway addy.

  • Using AEX as a wireless repeater

_Ok. So I am having a bit of a problem using my AEX to extend my wireless signal._
Right now I have my system set up so that one of my computers is directly connected to the internet (hardwired). I have my preferences set so that my computer will share that signal with other computers and devices. Signal strength is just as good as it was with my AEX.
That being said, my AEX did not reach my entire house, and neither does my computer's Airport Card. So, I decided to use my AEX as a signal extender.
Now, I believe I have everything set up correctly. I used another computer to configure the AEX (as the computer emitting the signal would not allow me to do it with the signal turned on). I used Airport Admin Utility to configure everything correctly (join my computer's network, password, etc.), and my computer tells me everything should be working.
However, when I go to the part of my house that used to have poor signal strength, it still has no signal (1 bar at most, which is pretty unreliable). +It should be noted that if the AEX was working properly, I would have full signal strength, as the AEX receives approximately 2/3 bars where it is, and it is only 10 feet away from the room where I need a stronger signal.+
+*So why is my AEX not working? Can anyone help me out?*+

If you're trying to extend the wireless network, created by the AirPort card in your computer, with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to create a Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...this won't work. You need either another AX or one of the AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBS) to create a WDS.

  • How to configure use of Ethernet and wireless simultaneously, with different Windows´s?

    Hello friends,
My network has two Win XP-laptops connected via ethernet to a Dovado-router, and from the Dovado-router another ethernet cable to a Win 7 PC.
The Win 7 PC connects to the internet via a D-Link wireless network to my ISP wireless router Huawei E589.
Problem: the PC refuses to work with both ethernet and wireless at the same time.
I use the ethernet for tranferring vast amounts of graphical data (astronomy photographs at 3-4 GB each), and I can only access the internet through the wireless. Neither XP nor 7 wizards are able to fix it. Both networks were visable in Network Center,
now only the wireless is available. Ethernet is gone.
What do I do, to make it work?

    Hi,
What's your purpose? My understanding is that you want Windows 7 PC wireless use internet and wired use Lan. If I am misunderstand please point me fault.
For the situation you can do like this:
    1) Setting for your both routers.
Make sure both routers have different Router IP's and SUBNETS, you should try to set the subnet of Dovado-router to 255.255.255.252(this router should be used as local Lan, not connect to internet).
Set the subnet of D-link to 255.255.255.0
    2) Setting For the LAN adapter.
Under the TCP/IP properties(Lan adapter),  please assign a unique IP address (which coincides with the subnet of Dovado-router ), set the subnet to 255.255.255.252 (or whatever you set it to Dovado-router). The very important things is that
don't assign any GATEWAY to Lan adapter, leave it blank.
    3) Setting For the WIRELESS adapter.
Under TCP/IP properties(wireless adapter), please assign a unique IP address (that coincides with the wireless router), set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 (or whatever the default is for the wireless router), and make sure to type gateway IP address ( D-link
    IP address).
Now you can test if they are work normally.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Using a external laser wireless mouse with MacBook Pro

Recently I have been having a couple situations where when I move my wireless mouse the pointer lags around and is very jumpy. Not precise at all. This happens only when using the external and not the track pad at all. I want to say it is because the receiver is plugged into the left side of the laptop and I am right handed and maybe there is some interference? Can anyone let me know if they are experiencing the same issues and if there is a good fix. Thank you!

I would try putting the mouse just on the left hand side near the receiver to narrow down the issue and see if your still having those problems. If your still having that problem I would get a new mouse and if your not well then you know your problem. Good-luck

  • Wireless repeater using wrt54g and wap54g

i am having problems connecting my wrt54g and wap54g as wireless repeater. my setup is as follows: 1. wrt54g (192.168.1.10) is connected to a dsl provider modem/router (192.168.1.1) (dhcp server). With this setup i do not have any problems connecting my wired pc and laptop to the network. 2. on my 2nd floor the signal is faint thus i need to extend the wireless signal. 3. i have a wap54g (192.168.1.12) that i would like to repeat the signal of the wrt54g. 4. i tried the guide from the website but it was general thus there are some settings (recommended) that are missing. questions: 1. does the 2 wireless ap need to have the same SSID, channel and wep settings? 2. what should be the gateway for the wap54g? 192.168.1.1? 3. when using wifi, would i see 2 access point? or a single 1 and whoever is nearer? 4. does the wrt54g need to be a dhcp server? or the 192.168.1.1 can do that. 5. does my ideal setup be 2 AP and not 1 wireless router/ap and 1 ap? 6. can the wrt54g use wireless distribution mesh? 7. i cannot see my wrt54g from the firware downloads, mine is v7 and there are only v6 and v8? am from asia and this might be an asian version? any help would be appreciated.

what i did was the following: 1. enable wap54g as a wireless client to look for the main ssid. 2. copy the mac address to the option for wireless repeater. 3. i can now use the wap54g as a repeater. when i shut down everything and turn it on, i cannot again hook up. again, i have to do the steps above for the wap54g to act as a repeater. any idea on what the problem is? i am sure that what i am putting on the mac address is correct. even when i shut down and turn on all router and accesspoints. the connection seems lost.

  • AEBS as wireless repeater

    Hi,
I'm using my Xbox 360 for streaming video. The TV and Xbox are upstairs, and my computer and modem are in the basement. I bought the Microsoft Xbox wireless network adapter to connect wirelessly to my iMac. According to the stats, the adapter is "Dual-Band 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wireless 802.11 A/B/G Home Network Compatible".
Using the adapter, I manage to connect wirelessly to my iMac, but the signal appears to be weak. When I try to stream video on the Xbox, the video runs for about 5-10 minutes before it stops and Xbox complains that it lost connection to my computer. Usually shutting down the Xbox and/or powering my modem on/off will make it reconnect, but only for another 5-10 minutes and then it dies again.
For what it's worth, when I use Internet Sharing on my iMac to allow my wife's notebook and iPod Touch to connect to the Internet, there's never a problem and never any signal drop outs wherever we are in the house.
I've read some posts on the forum about using AEBS as a wireless repeater, but it's not clear to me this would work as the Xbox is a Microsoft product.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the information.
I would suggest that you try turning the encryption OFF (just for testing.)
    • if that works and your XBOX holds the connection successfully, then just leave the encryption off
Channel "3" is a great channel (most wireless base stations have default settings on "1", "6", and "9")
    • stay on "3"
Definitly check to see if that iPod touch works fine near the XBOX.
    • if it does, then there is an issue with the XBOX's wireless adapter
    • if it doesn't, then there is wireless interference in the area.
