Use MacMini server for windows apps and save for windows files ?

My question : Office equiped mixed computers , aslo Windows and Mac,
Could we use MacMini server for both machines, working by windows apps and / or to save and work with windows files on MacMini server and with Mac as well?
We woud use it for normal office work and get it by internet from other places as well
windows apps: merchandising, invoice, word, excel, pictures editing, Outlook Express + the Mac apps

In general what you can do is: in OS X, use Windows in virtualization (aka emulation), as a "virtual machine" with VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or Oracle VM Virtual box.
That way you have both operating system open side by side without having to reboot into one or the other operating system.
Not sure whether you need a Mac Mini Server per se to do that, I do that with my MacBook Pro for instance. But the server would help since it has a quad-core CPU (more cores that you can dedicate to the virtual macine), and you can put the virtual machine on the second harddrive for better disk access performance. Was there some particular reason you were thinking of the Mini Server -- do you want to use server side Windows apps?
Again I have that setup on my MacBook Pro using VMWare Fusion with an XP virtual machine. In the Windows, I only use Office 2003 and some company apps that are Windows only. With Fusion (and I'm sure the other apps can do it as well) you can set a "shared" folder so both Windows and Lion will see the contents of it for reading and writing. I believe with Fusion you can also do your entire Home directory, but I prefer to limit it to a single shared "work" folder.

Use a gtk theme for one app and another for the whole system??

I would like to know if is it possible to use a theme for one application and use another for the remaining of the system? I use OpenBox and I change themes with Lxappearance...

Uhh, thanks mauryck for the question and anonymous_user for the answer! I use a very slow gtk theme, and one program suffer from it, but this theme is so beautiful so I dont like to change. Never though about this solution, use a different theme only for this program!

How to DOWNLOAD (for free) apps and games for n97 ...

i went on the ovi store and realized that i had to purchase the games and apps... so then i went on another site and download stuff instead, i dont really trust anyways, cos it say it might cause harm to my phone, btw, the download doesn't even work!
can someone tell me how to download game and apps and store it in my phone in the correct file
and such...
AND... the face book app thingy in my phone doesn't work, whenever i click on it it says no internet
connection, when there is, cos if i click on google, then type in facebook and log in then it works, but not directly to the facebook app originally there when i turn on the phone

I have loads of games and apps on my N97, download them onto computer, then drag and drop or 'open with' ovi suite. Try all about symbian, Daily Mobile, Nokia users, Tehkseven, Getjar, source forge etc, if you keep apps on computer, just re-transfer after a reset !

Software tools for profiling apps and os for power usage

I worked in windows and used windows performance toolkit, this is used to profile the applications for its usage on cpu, power, memory and other system resources.
i think there should be some similar tool in mac os x for identifying the most power consuming applications, though there is a way to identify "Apps consuming significant energy". i want to know, which app will is using most of battery and cpu over a time among all. so that i can avoid using them.

Try MenuMeters. It hasn't been updated for a while but works fine in Mavericks.

Search PDF contents for ISBN number and save to text file

Hoping someone can help me create a script that can find the ISBN inside of a PDF and write that filename and number to a text file.
I've found a way to do this using java using and document processing in Acrobat but I need to do it by pointing at a folder of files.
Format desired would be:
original filename.pdf, isbn#
Any help is appreciated,

you could give the command line tool ps2ascii a try. It also works with pdf and you could pipe it's output (pure text) to a nice perl/ruby/grep/sed/awk 1-liner to extract the isbn numbers (still have to read a book about Regular Expression ;-) )
I did a quick & dirty version, but I think you will have to install ps2ascii first. I don't remember but I think it was installed with ghostscript (using macports)

The second system with the Intel chipset will more than likely have the Intel USB3 chipset required for Kinect. As for GPU they are similar, but the i5 with DDR3 1600MHZ ram is a better option. Keep in mind, if you are doing anything in-depth for
3D, a laptop isn't the best options, but if you have to go mobile then you have to decide what is best for your requirements.

How to change and save a new file in Edge web Lumira server for Team ?

I've installed SAP Lumira 1.0, Edge edition and View a sample 'Dairy Wholesaler-Sample"
I'd like to change it and save as new file, but "Save" button is disabled and when I put my mouse over the button,
it says "Save Option is disabled in this version".
Is there any idae how to change and save as a new file in Lumira Edge ?

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.

Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

I may have deleted the plist preferences file in the preferences library folder to get it started again after a freeze up threw it out of whack but I've never had this happen before.And i've tried doing that again to see if that would restore it. But the plist always regenerates itself and the "save as " window still never appears when I run Firefox. The "save" window works just fine in every other program on my Mac, but not in Firefox. Weird..

Should I combine two 1Tb drives into one logical 2Tb drive or use one 1Tb drive for system/apps and move /users to the other 1Tb drive? (I'd like ease of b/u too.)

I have two 1Tb drives in my Mini, the first is full and the second one empty. (I've been using the 2nd for Time Machine but the full source from dirve 1 soon has Time Machine complaining.) I am contemplating whether to form one 2Tb logical drive from the two 1Tb drives or segregate their use, i.e. use the first 1Tb drive to hold the system and applications while moving the /users directory tree to the second 1Tb drive?
I'm assuming both are straight forward to do accomplish but have nagging doubts about segregating drive usage, will moving the /users directory tree to the second 1Tb drive:
impact apps which might otherwise expect to see particulat fies and directories in specific user related locations on the system drive;
hinder backing up (by having to setup two separate Time Machine activities)?
Finally, is there a better 3rt option?

The supplementary questions would arise should I NOT chose to combine the separate drives into a larger logical one but to keep one of the two drives for system/apps and the other for users data... I assumed that segregating drive usagel like this might reult in issues with apps which might expect to see some user directories/files on the same drive as the system/apps. similarly, with two physical drives, I'd be looking to managing separate Time Mchines. (I have a few 2Tb pocket drives for backups.)
Final question - if I do combine into a single logical drive (for system, apps, /users ... the whole lot), would I have any problem getting this logical one working from a Time Machine backup? I ask that this backup was taken from the 1Tb physical drive and now I'd be looking to put it back onto a 2Tb logicl drive.

When you open a raw file it will open in Adobe camera raw. That is where you can do most of the editing. Then it will be placed inside Photoshop where you can do more if needed.
Now you can use the save for web dialog to export your image as a png or jpg to use on those sites.
