  • Using a midi controller with Amplitube and Logic 9

    Hi all
I'm stuck as helll at the moment can someone please help???
I'm trying to use my Line 6 x3 live as a MIDI controller for amplitube (whilst this is being used as a VST plug-in) for Logic 9.
    Heres my setup.
Line6 x3live connected by USB and midi IN and OUT to a Focusrite Saffire USB - connected by USB to my IMAC (27 inch standard spec) and running this on logic 9 with Amplitube as a VST.
If any one can provide a step by step guide i'd be bloody grateful.
    Thanks

Unfortunately there is no way to use the remaining knobs, sliders and buttons on your Axiom. My work around was to buy the Korg NanoKontrol. It is a cheap controller with knobs, buttons, sliders and transport controls that integrates perfectly with GB. There is a little plugin on the Korg site to DL and install to use with GB so you don't need to use the garageremote with your axiom.
    Cheers.

  • Using MIDI controller - Delay (Laten

Im using an M-Audio Radeum6 key controller connected to the computer via USB. The software for the keyboard is installed and working properly. There is a serious delay in sound being generated by my audio software from the midi controller. I realize that MIDI controllers do not generate sound, but notes - and the audio software generates the sound. How can I eliminate the latency? there should be none if everything is working properly. I have an Audigy 2 LS and believe it should be capable of playing the midi controller immediately as the controllers manual says it will. What am I doing wrong? Is there some setting, driver, connection, etc. which is not setup properly?

    noiziman,
The ASIO drivers deals with digital audio signals between the software and the card, and it isn?t related with MIDI signals.
Anyway, it isn't clear from the original question if the delay comes from the MIDI device itself or from the digital audio processing, since for the later he should be using a software synth. If he's using the hardware sampler (i.e. Emu0k processor in internal SB Li've/SB Audigy with SoundFonts), the problem shouldnt have to do with ASIO.
To chek out this, i?d record in a MIDI track the signals received from the MIDI device (with the proper timming it should have, no matter the current latency of the resulting sound), and then i'd inspect the track (or it'ss event list view) looking for the singnals recorded from the controller. If the signals where received on time (that is, the timestamp matches the timestamp of an associated music event), then the latency comes from the synth. With a software synth, the ASIO settings would help with the latency (or a faster computer :-).
But if the timestamp doesn?t fit where theyre supposed to fit, then the delay comes from the MIDI cables or setup. If so, try:
) To increase the "ticks per quarter note" in the MIDI setup for the song (or decrease this, if the problem comes from overloading the MIDI network with signals)
    2) Rewire the MIDI cables, i.e., avoiding chaining this controller trough other devices nor using MIDI THRU. At least i?d try pluging the controller right into the MIDI IN from the soundcard to test the latency.
    3) I don't know that controller, but if it's a synchronized one, try turning off sync (or using another device for sync).
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Onscreen piano keys stuck when using midi controller

    Hi,
I am using a Yamaha PSR-172 as my midi controller. I use SoundTech's Lightsnake as my midi-usb connector. It is supposed to power the Yamaha keyboard from the usb, but it doesn't; I still need to use the yamaha power adaptor. Anyway, my onscreen keyboard displays the notes I play on the Yamaha; they colour as I play them via the controller. Sometimes they continue to make sound after I have released them, and the onscreen keys stay coloured. The sound continues until I change instruments or close garageband. There is no problem with the Yamaha PSR-172 when I use it as a stand alone instrument. Any explanation or suggestion would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    shirtless

No, I'm not using a sustain pedal. I'm using the Microkorg and the keys are pretty horrible (sticky and aren't that responsive), could it be this that's causing the notes to sustain indefinitely (until I press the key of the note that won't stop ringing)?
Yes, it could be that no note off (or similar/equivalent message) is being sent. You should watch your MIDI in/out on the right side of the display in the transport bar and assert if any message is being sent when you release the key. It could be that when you strike it a second time that the note off message is being sent, especially if the electrical contacts are dirty.
A new keyboard will probably solve that, yes. Unless it also has dirty contacts.

  • Turning Region Loops On and off using MIDI controller

    hi,
i got an Akai MPD24 MIDI controller today for a gig in two days...basically what I need it to do is to assign a pad on it to play a MIDI region in a loop when I press it once, then stop playing the region when I press it again. From reading the manual I've got the impression you need to use Touch Tracks, but at the moment how you go about assigning a pad to loop a MIDI region is going over my head! I'm sure this is a very easy thing to do but I'm new to this sort of stuff...could anyone give me some pointers on how to do it? Cheers.

Your gig seems to be done, but in case you still need to know and haven't figured out how to do it:
    • create a Touch Track
    • open it
    • drop the regions on it's keys (beginning on the lower notes)
    • assign all the tracks that shouldn't mute one-another to different groups
    • set Trigger Mode to „Toggle Loop“
    • adjust the other parameters the way you need them
I think the Touch Tracks have great potential, but editing them really isn't as slick as is should be…

You should be able to use a digidesign interface with STP by utilizing the digi CoreAudio driver.

  • "zipper" noise when using MIDI controller

When using MIDI faders to control guitar amp settings (gain, EQ, etc) I hear a very loud "zipper" noise when I make changes. This makes it very unlikely I can use it live. Has anyone else experienced this?

By "flakey as heck," I mean that the stop button stops play, and brings it back to the beginning of the song, even if I only hit it once. In other words, I can't just stop playback where the song is at the moment I hit stop. When I hit fast forward or rewind, it doesn't always respond, and when it does, it often skips randomly, sometimes going one step in the grid, sometimes more than one, sometimes not at all. I think what is happening is that the transport controls are trying to control Logic but using messages designed for Reason. I say this only because, when I am using Logic, but not Reason in ReWire, the transport controls work exactly as they should.

  • Can't use .mid file with Logic Pro 9

I've been given a .mid file from someone I know but I'm not having any success trying to access the file in Logic.
The file should just contain a piano piece he had written.
When I first downloaded the file it automatically opened with QuickTime Player. I closed this then tried various ways of getting it into Logic. Firstly I went to File > Open, and chose the .mid file. This was the result:
"Damaged project or not a Logic Pro project!
    "Search for fragments?
"Damaged projects might create problems and crashes!"
    'Search' or 'Cancel'
When I click 'Search' I'm told:
    "Read error!
"This is not a Logic Pro project!
    "No tracks found"
    'Continue'
So, is the file empty (no tracks found)?
Or, because it was not created in Logic, it can't be opened in Logic. (I think he is using a PC, not confirmed yet - I also don't know what DAW he's using, yet)
That's ridiculous though, I thought MIDI was a universal language?
I also tried dragging the file straight into a Logic project, which tells me:
    "No tracks found"
Can someone please give me a little hand!? Thank you

Two ideas, have your friend check and make sure the mid file plays on his/her system.
    and/or
If the mid file checks out good on his/her system have them compress (ZIP) the file and resend as it could have become corrupted during transfer. It can happen.
Your description of the file (zero length) sounds like it missed the last few bytes.

  • Using MIDI cable with M-Audio FastTrack  Pro

I have 2 keyboards. One has USB MIDI, so I just plug it directly in to my computer and Logic sees it. I also have a nicer keyboard (weighted keys), but this one doesn't have a USB out. It has a 1/4" jack and a 5 pin MIDI jack. I've tried plugging it into my FastTrack Pro using a MIDI cable, but it doesn't seem to work. What am I missing?
    Thanks

    Hi !
Still no answer from M-Audio but it seems that they are not in cause.
I read on several topics of Apple's Forums some similar problems with other audio devices and also with some USBhubs.
I ran some little tests and for my case, using the other USB port of the MacBook seems to resolve the problem (but that's not a permanent solution for my point of view).
Using a selft-powered USBhub works also, even on the port that makes it crash without hub.
As I studied a little bit of electronics, it looks really like a problem of power supply through USB to me. It could be some kind of micro-cuts (or micro-undervoltage) that are sufficient to cut the audio stream and freeze a bit the system but not enough for MacOSX to switch significantly to the internal audio.
But two questions still remain :
Why one USB port of the MacBook and not the other one ?
    Why since 10.5.2 ?
Steve, if you hear me ;o)
'Hope they will react quickly !

  • Latency in using USB controller with Satellite E205

I've tried several different keyboard interfaces to use with my E205 via USB and even MIDI and all of them have had a slight delay in reaction time when I play the keys.  Anyone have any idea as to how to fix this?  I'm up to date with the Realtek audio drivers and have lowered the audio buffers in my recording programs as far as they go (34KB).  The programs I'm using this with are Cubase LE and Reason 4.0.
I appreciate any insight anyone might be able to offer.

The easiest thing to do is using the default parameters of the MK-449C and assign those to the Logic parameters you wish to control. Check out Logic's manual at page 498 for learning how to program new assignments for unsupported control surfaces.

  • Using Midas console with Logic

    Hello,
I am kinda new to Logic and have a question. I am using a Midas Venice 32F console with Firewire output to record all 32 channels into Logic. Today, I tried to send those same 32 channels back through the board, which Midas will allow, but I could only get Logic to send a stereo signal. I set everything that I could find (audio/midi setup, Logic output, sound output) to reflect the Firewire connection as the output device for the program and the laptop. Still only a stereo send? What really frustrates me is that Reaper, the free solution, will do this with no problems which means it is a software issue and not my laptop or the board. Please help.
    This is my equipment...
15" MBP with Intel chip and 8 Gb's of RAM running Mavericks
    Midas Venice 32F console
    Logic Pro X
    Thanks again for the help.

For all of those out there having the same issue with Logic Pro X. I have figured it out and finally got around to making a video of how to make it work. Here it is so you can check it out, share it, comment on it, whatever. Thanks for the help in getting this issue solved.

  • Sustain hanging when using midi source with multilayered sustain

when using the rp800 digital piano as midi source for a software instrument, the sustain hangs (remains on) as soon as i have depressed the sustain pedal and released it.
i think it might have to do with that the rp800 is sending several signals after how much the pedal is depressed (several degrees of sustain) which confuses garageband so when you release the pedal, garageband seems to believe the pedal is still depressed.
i've tried to see if the rp800 could be configured to send only on/off sustain but no can do as far as i can see.
anyone else had similar problem and found a workaround for it?

That sounds strange for a sustain pedal, which usually sends on/off only. Are you sure the pedal is plugged into the right jack? Are you sure it's not defective? Can you do a hard reset of the keyboard (which sometimes gets misbehaving controllers back in line)?
A problem I'm more familiar with is the sustain being reversed if a keyboard is turned on with the pedal in the "on" position (which it then thinks is the "off" position) which can be fixed by just turning the unit off and on again with the pedal up.
If none of that works - and no one here can think of anything else - I'd check with rp800 tech support or see if they have a forum.

  • Possible to record solo automation from a MIDI controller?

I am using a Novation SL MKII midi controller with Automap in Logic Pro 9.  I am trying to figure out how to record the solo automation feature from the MIDI input.  I select the track, and then select the 'Solo' section from the automation tools.  I then select Touch or Latch. (I've tried both)  When I push the MIDI button I can see that it does change the state of the track from solo on/off successfully, so the input is working fine.  But as I try to record it, nothing happens, no information about the state change is actually recorded.
Here's the strangest part, it works fine when I record mute automation... but not solo.  Any common reason this is occurring?

Well, I don't know much about the kit you are using, but I do kow a bit about the midisport as I use one for my live setup. It should appear in the environment under clicks and ports. As for start and stop, although I have never tried this, I imagine it's possible through key command setup. Here you ought to be able to select play, learn the asignment and press the button. I'm not certain that this will work, and I'm pretty sure that some transport items won't work (like RTZ) but surely it should work. All I can say is give it a try!
If any of this doesn't make sense, I suggest a read of the manual about key commands. They are part of what makes Logic so powerful, and you should note that Logic has some functions not available any other way that are very powerful. Equally, if you want to start having fun with MIDI, a readup on the environment will help too. Ah, the possibilities are almost endless...
Any qs on it, don't hesitate to post back. I hop these pointers might help you on your way,
    Best, Fred
