Use MS Word templates with Appleworks?

Here's the problem. My MS Word won't work with 10.4.3. It starts up and immediately shuts down when I choose a blank doc, a template, or a template that I created. I've reinstalled the 10.1.6 update several times to no avail.
I have created 5 templates for MS Word and wonder if there is a way to use them with my Appleworks Word Processor? I don't want to spend any more $$ on MS Word upgrades (I'm using MS Office X) and if I don't have to, don't want to have to redo the templates in Appleworks. I also have iWork if it would be easier to use that (altho I find Pages a bit less than intuitive). Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Answer my own question. After trying to use appleworks with the ms word personal templates without success (whether only my fault or an impossibility), I decided to reinstall ms office. After the reinstall of ms office x and the reinstall of the 10.1.6 updater, it works ok but have lost the personally created templates. Since I have a backup of my os drive with apps, I copied the templates over from there and they work......for now. Now I have to reinstall ms office x and updater on the backup drive and then copy the templates over to there. Wonder if I saved any time from re doing the templates......but at least ms word now seems to work.

Word template with web service - style and font not considered

Hi experts.
I'm using a word template with a web services.
So i've added my xml tags in the template and i've tried to change the font and style but when i launch the document, what i have defined is never considered. For example if i set in a table that a line should be in Italic, when i edit the document no text is in italic ?
Did you ever faced this kind of issue ?
How did you manage to set you style to the xml tags ?

I also had similar problems but I didn't work on word template for quite a long time. But at that time I solved the problem with formating the word and not the xml tag directly.
For example: I wrote the word lastname and formated it to for exampe, bold and italic like lastname. After thet I selected the word and applied the xml tag to that word and this worked just fine.

Word templates with Macros

Dear all,
I have a couple of Word templates (in document libraries) that should have the filename and page count on the footer of the front page. It seams there is an issue with Word that these do not automatically update (MS kb 832897).
I am using word 2010, 64 bits.
This is solved with a Macro.
When placing the word with macro template in SharePoint, SP blocks it and the macros are not ran.
Any one with experience on this?

It is not possible to run a macro in SharePoint after the document has been uploaded.
You can replicate this scenario by creating a SPItemEventReceiver which will run customized code on ItemAdded in your document library.

Opening Word documents with Appleworks

I often receive Word documents as email attachments (though my hotmail account). I can download these Word documents to my desktop but when I click on them to open them I get an offer to purchase MS Word (which I do not have). I would like to be able to simply open the Word documents with Apple works--and I am hoping I can just click on them and have that happen automatically. But it doesn't. I have tried opening Appleworks and going into the wordprocessing program and then opening the Word document through that, but it only is successful part of the time. What can I do? I would like to have these Word douments open automatically in Appleworks but every time I click on them (i.e., their icon on my desktop) I get that advertisement from Microsoft asking me to buy Word. Is this ad blocking a normal function of Appleworks that would otherwise allow me to open Word documents with a click? And in any case, how can I proceed?

The ad for Word is almost certainly being tacked on through or at Hotmail (taglines or adware from Hotmail? Hoodathunk .....) ; it sure isn't coming from AppleWorks or from anything on your own system, unless you have that demo copy of Office still lurking somewhere. I suppose it could come from that, somehow.
Assuming you can get a clean attachment downloaded to your Desktop from Hotmail, the procedure for having what you want to happen automatically is fairly straightforward and, really, has nothing at all to do with Appleworks. Try the following:
--> Select (highlight) one of those downloaded .doc files from Word, then
--> use the Finder's Get Info command (⌘-I). In the window which appears,
--> see the "Open with" section, and set it to AppleWorks.

The report cannot be rendered because of error when using a word template

When using a report done with a word's template I always get the same error when I try to view as HTML:
String index out of range: -1
The report is validate in word and the HTML preview is done correctly.
Any idea of what can be wrong in the BI server?

How to use a PDF template with OA Framework

I have a question that is hopefully quite simple. I am using JDeveloper to add a button to a page that will create a PDF document.
According the the documentation it should be quite easy to merge a PDF template file with an XML data file to produce an output PDF file.
The problem I have is that although I can create the XML data file OK - the output PDF file is not produced (the file gets created but it is 0 bytes - I don't get an error message though). Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I haven't registered the PDF template file in Oracle Applications - but that shouldn't be the problem should it? Or is it better to use a PDF template that is registered in Oracle Applications?

I have been successful in displaying a PDF file in an OAF page but I had to generate the xml data using a PL/SQL package rather than the data template. I know it works because Concurrent Requests using the XDODTEXE executable work and this uses DataProcessor.

Issue with using SSXA region templates with Content Presenter.

I am using Content Presenter taskflow in Webcenter Portal. When i try to use the SSXA region template with content presenter, it doesnot render the html markup. But if i use normal UCM region templates(hscp), its rendering the html markup properly.
Http Server acts as a proxy for both webcenter and ucm. Enabled SiteStudio, SiteStudioforExternalApplications, Webcenter Configure and other required features in Webcenter. Can any one tell me, if i missed any step?

This uses one region definition containing WYSIWYG element. I am able to edit and could type the html markup or data in WYSIWYG editor at contribution mode, but when i click save and close, all i am getting output as ${data.body}
I manually verified the data file in UCM, and i could see the information stored (the data entered in contribution mode)

I'm not 100% sure but i believe that WebCenter does not support everything from the WCM tags. You can read the topic on SSXA on the WebCenter EMG:

Has anyone successfully used new custom templates with bookings?

I have been trying to use an alternate list template for bookings as a fallback for the standard list I have which is outputting json.
I saw recently in the september release that custom templates are out (thank goodness).
I have tried:

Then I tried renaming it to html cause I read http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2573
Then I tried relocating it, removing the underscore, adding commas, removing commas, single quotes and double quotes.
But they all return No events found.

Can i create & use ms-word files with java?

I am making an application in which I need to write some information into a formatted ms word document. I am familiar with writing into a .txt file, but have no idea how to create / or even add info taken from text fields and insert it into an exixting word file. Provided that you are on a Windows machine and that Word is installed, you can manipulate an instance of the MSWord ActiveX control to create documents (that's how we do it). See:

Also, I quickly tested mp4 export - applied a bunch of behaviours to some text and exported as mp4. When I inserted into iMovie as picture in picture, it didn't have transparency. However, I changed it to green/blue screen and just clicked once using erase option. It magically made the background transparent.

Hi,
You can do grouping in either place. But ideally to avoid re-grouping in the BI Publisher Template your XML would be generated such that it is appropriate for your template.
This is really important when it comes to very large datasets as you should avoid regrouping in the template in this case.

Using Word templates

Hi,
I want to export my Robohelp 7 HTML help to a Word document.
I want the output to look exactly like the main help file, but want
to add some headers and footers using a Word template,
Here's what I've tried:
In the Single Source Layouts> Printed Documentation.
In the Print Document Appearance step of the dialog.
Using the Microsoft Word Template drop-down options:
When I select 'Use the Project's CSS styles' the topics come
out looking just as I want it, but as it's not using a Word
template there are no headers or footers.
When I select any attempt at a Word template I've created, it
just seems to ignore it and go with the styles on Style
Mapping.dot.
When I try to edit Style Mapping.dot, it seems to ignore any
changes I make and goes back to the default.
Any advice on how to creat a template that will work, or how
to turn my Robohelp CSS into a template that will work, much
appreciated.

You cannot define the headers and footers before the document
is created. They do get overwritten as you have found. See Printed
Documentation on my site.

No, it is not necessary as long as you just want to create a static Word template.
If on the other hand your requirement is to fill the Word document dynamically with data from the object related to the document, then you need to create a Web service which reads the corresponding data.

New document in library using Word template - columns filled but Word doc is blank

I have a document library using a Word template. It works fine in testing: New Document opens the template, the form at the top of the document is filled by the user, the data populates the fields within the template, the user saves it in the document library.
But... I have a user with an issue: When she adds a New Document and fills out the form at the top of the Word template, the data doesn't populate the fields within the document itself. It saves into the library columns ok, but the fields within the Word
document remain blank.
She has Office 2010, XP and IE8. It's SharePoint 2010.
Any ideas how to resolve the issue would be appreciated!

Further information: I emailed the Word template to the user. She opened it and could only input information into the Information Panel at the top, not into the fields within the document.

I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner - I was away for a break. Anyway, I've done an Office repair but sadly the behaviour is the same as it was before I did that. However, I noticed that the behaviour is now different from when I first posted about the problem.
Then I got an error now there is no error and it proceeds as if the behaviour is what should be expected. So now when I click "Add Document" I just get the standard "Add a document" dialog box. Oh well, its not the end of the world.
Anyway, thanks for your help and suggestion. If I work out what is wrong I'll put a post on here.
