Use my old iPhone as a pod?
My old iPhone 3g had a faulty headphone jack, so O2 kindly sent me a replacement 3gS.
Great! so what do i do with my old faulty iPhone?
not a lot it seems, but i thought i cold at least make use of it as a games machine - i.e. i'll put lots of apps and games that don't need sound, for use if i'm on a long trip.
i can't see it would be useful for much else, unless i pay the repair charges (and why would I??!!)
anyway, what i'd like to do now is rename it.
my new phone is 'paul's phone'. my old phone used to be 'paul's phone', but now if i plug it in, isn't it going to try and be 'paul's phone' again and mess up the real 'paul's phone' settings?!
if i try and restore it, it won't work because the sim is in my new phone.
if i take the sim out and restore it, and then put the sim back in my new phone, wont that mess up my new phone..??!!
any ideas please?
confused of north london.
iTunes will keep them straight based on serial numbers, so you can have two devices with the same name (but it's not bad idea to change the old one when you sync next time, just clickt he name in the devices list and type a new one.
Was there a new SIM card with the replacement? If so, use that one in the new iPhone 3GS (ring O2 if needed to make sure your account is linked with the new SIM). Then, leave the old (inactive) one in the old iPhone. Else, you'll need to temporarily swap the SIM card in from the new iPhone 3GS if you need to Restore or when you update the iPhone 3G. That won't cause any problems, just put it back in the new one and sync that afterwards.

I want to use my old iPhone 3GS as an Ipod. Nothing is working?
I'm tired of wasting battery on my iPhone 4 to listen to music, so I wanted to use my old iPhone 3GS as an iPod. I read you had to have a sim card inserted in the phone, regardless if it's activated. So I put the old one inside, but when I connect it to my computer, it won't charge, or sync with iTunes. It's definitely not my charger because both of my phones charge in a wall outlet, and my iPhone 4 charges through the computer. Just not the iPhone 3GS.... I'm going on vacations with long car rides and would like to use this. Help please!

hi...i'm still using the old iphone 3G...my phone is no longer charging...when i tried to charge it, what i see on the screen is the usb cord with the arrow pointing the itunes logo...can someone help me?
It sounds like your phone is in recovery mode, which means it needs to be restored through iTunes on your computer in order to get out of it.

I want to use my old iphone for my kids as an ipod. How do I keep from getting text messages on it when it is turned on? If it is on, and my droid razar is on, text messages will go to the iphone. It is either a 4 or 4s ...I don't have Siri, so I think it's a 4. Thanks
Another thing to remember is the phone is actually usable for 911 calls and maybe others. Not a real good idea. Especially for a child.
It would depend however on the age of the child.

Hi - I need help. I would like to use my old iPhone 3 as an iPod for music only. Problem is that my phone is locked with a password I can't remember. I havent used the phone since I got my iPhone 4. Anyone who know how I can reset the phone to standard installation or just get acces to the phone. There is no SIM card in the phone.
Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´ Those were good days..... What a City -

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing. Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

maybe this post by Zevoneer helps.
I don’t want to hear any of that “iTunes will let you re-download anything you’ve lost” nonsense.
it won't anyways. except or apps, you are entitled to one download only. there4 it is important to back up.

HELP. I'm trying to use my old iPhone 4 on my iHome speakers and I do not remember my passcode
iTunes has a nasty habit of deleting the previous backup every time it does a backup. If you really have an old backup intact, there is a way to restore from it. I forget the procedure, but I'm sure you can Google it. It's a good idea to manually go into your backup directory and manually copy it over to a new name once in a while. That way iTunes won't touch it, and you can use it in an emergency such as yours.
Here's a website that describes how to do it:

The Kindle reader requires iOS 7. If you have an older version of it you can still install it, but if you don't there is no way to get the older version.

I want to use an old iphone as an itouch and don't have the sim card anymore (cut it to fit into 4G) and I just updated to the new software.... How do I reload the phone with apps and music?
You'll need to get a SIM card. It can be an old one.

I have an iPhone 4s that is my primary phone that I sync with iTunes on my computer. I would like to use my old iPhone 3s like an iPod. Can I also sync this phone to the same computer and iTunes? My ultimate goal would be to have identical iTunes on both phones. Is this possible?

Can I use my old iPhone AC Adapter with my new iPad mini
Just bough myself a new mini retina but was wondering if I could use my old iPhone 4 AC power adapter with it i.e. plug the new lightining to USB to AC Adapter.
The iPad's power adapter is a bit bulky and anything so I don't end up taking a hundred power adapters on holiday tomorrow!
Looking at the details they say:
Old charger:
100-240v ~ 50/60Hz 0.15A
Output 5V == 1A
New charger:
100-240v ~ 50/60Hz 0.45A
Output 5.1V == 2.1AAnother option is that you can take ONLY the iPad mini's 10W charger with you instead of the iPhone's 5W charger. It's not that much bigger than the iPhone's 5W and will safely charge BOTH devices. It's really not recommended (& not considered compatible by Apple) to use the 5W charger to charge devices requiring a 10W or 12W charger. Yes, as was mentioned above, you CAN use the 5W to charge the mini Retina. It will take longer and the charger will likely generate more heat. Personally, I'd just take the 10W charger. It's safe and compatible (officially by Apple) with both your iPhone 4 and the iPad mini Retina.
Compatibility for 5W charger: (scroll down to compatibility)

Compatibility for 12W charger (10W is not listed) (scroll down to compatibility)
