Use NIC for internet, airport for music

Hi all, I'm wondering if there is a way to set up my systems to prefer the NIC over an airport connection. Right now it seems like they will always default to the wireless network whether or not it can actually get online. For instance, if I have the wireless network up without ethernet, I won't be able to access the internet, but if I disable airport then the NIC takes over and it's fine.
My airport router is kind of flaky and I'd rather just have them default to the NIC if they are hardwired. I like to use my airport for my external speakers, though. Is there a way to set this up?
Sorry if this is a common question, it didn't come up in any of the searches I tried.
Thanks all

Sure, the Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.

Is there a way to transfer the iTunes application to my PC using my iPhone? My PC has no means of connecting to the Internet and I do not wish to pay for Internet tethering for a one time use. I don't have the app on my computer and I simply wish to have it on there to actually be able to transfer my files.

You can transfer the app to your PC to save it, the article below will show you how:

So can I use our local internet provider for the e-mail account, or do I have to use Apple?

Yes, you can use the Mail app on the iPod for your internet mail provider.  Go to your provider's mail support website to find out how to set up the account on the iPod.  They probably will not have instructions for an iPod but the one for the iPhone should do.

    Any suggestion?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @yuvalyanai
I read about the issue you are having with scanning, as you are seeing a message to enable Adobe Flash player.
To begin, I would like to know some more information:
Which operating system you are running and which printer you are working with?
How Do I Find My Model Number?
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
    Can you make copies successfully?
Can you print from your computer?
Have you tried updated Adobe Flash player?
Can you scan successfully from Microsoft Paint?
How is your printer connected to your PC, wireless, ethernet or USB?
In the meantime, try resetting the printer:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

  • Dual Connection; Force use of Wireless for Internet, Wired for Networking

    Hello,
I have 2 connections at work: 1) ethernet to our local server/network/internet, and 2) wireless internet (through my phone's hotspot).  Our connection is very spotty through our network right now, so I want to use my
wifi for internet and the wired to network only.
I've tried manually entering the priorities in the adapter metrics (5 for the wifi and 15 for the ethernet). They still show 9 for wifi and 10 for ethernet as before (netstat -r).
I also found in another forum where to change the connection orders in Advanced Settings (Change adapter settings>Alt>Advanced>Advanced Settings, then move order).
Niether of these solutions have worked.  I have to physically unplug my ethernet to get it to use the wireless connection. Webpages will sit there forever and then only half load or not even at all, but when I unplug and hit refresh, they pop right up.
    Any help is appreciated

    Hi,
The adapter metrics should work. Please take a try to modify the metrics on both of the two adapters, and then recreate the two connections.

  • I use Time Capsule and Airport for my wireless connection and my speeds stink!

I am getting horrible speeds (250K downloads) any suggestions. I have the time capsule and the Airport for my wireless connection and I have a new MacBook Pro. My download speeds are about 250K. I have turned off my wireless and plugged into my network with a physical connection and I get great speeds so something is wrong wiht my wireless connection /setup......any suggestions?

    Yep much better.
    I recommend the following ..
Set wireless and TC names to SMB standard.. short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Lock the wireless channels and set a different name for 5ghz and also lock its channel.
Use only WPA2 Personal security with a decent passkey.. generally 8-12 characters is plenty. Still follow the rules.. pure alphanumeric mix of upper lower case and numerals..
If that does not improve things.. how old is the TC.. the wireless output does seem to slide as they age.
A simple WAP connected to the TC can provide far superior wireless for very little money.

  • Can Apple iPhones be used as an Internet modem for computers?

    Hello.
Can Apple iPhones (e.g., 4S and its iOS v7.1.2), with its data plan (e.g., 2 GB Verizon Wireless 3G), be used as Internet modems for computers (Mac OS X 10.5.8+, Windows XP+, and Linux/Debian [stable])? If so, then how?
    Thank you in advance.

They can be used both as a USB-connected modem and as a Wi-FI hotspot. Wi-FI Hotspot tends to be the easiest to configure. To turn it on, you'll need to go to Settings > Personal Hotspot and configure the few settings that appear in the menu.
Note that on some older plans, Hotspot or Tethering requires additional payment to use if I remember correctly. On Share Everything plans this is included.
Let's say an iPhone 4S (iOS 7.1.2) has Verzion Wireless' 2 GB data plan used for its 3G Internet stuff. It already has the requirements to provide. Just need to enable its wifi hotspot for other devices to connect to. Am I correct?

  • Want Wired for Internet, Wireless for file transfers on home network

I live in Dubai where internet in my house is connected straight from an ethernet port in the wall in numerous rooms. I have one wired connection hardwired from port to airport extreme which creates a wireless network for my laptops for internet.. apple tv et al. (home network 10.0.1.1 etc)
In the other room i have a mac mini which is directly hardwired to a second ethernet port. I use this machine for hard wired internet as its essentially downloading continuously for work.
    Looking at network setting states..
Wired connection states in network details : (To be used purely for hardwired internet)
    router address of (91.74.X.1)
    and ethernet port ip (91.74.x.21)
Wireless connection states in network details : (To be used purely for connection to home wireless network and streaming of files within internal networks)
    Router  (10.0.0.1)
    IP4V address is  (10.0.1.4)
    Subset mask is 255.255.255.0
I would like to force the mac mini to only use the wired ethernet connection for surfing/downloading, and also have an IP from the home network (10.0.1.2 etc) purely for file sharing/streaming with other computers on my home network.
    Is this possible ?

NAS is the right tool for this job.
It is expensive but the market leaders.. synology and QNAP have really been doing it for long time and the ability to do file store/sharing and most importantly backup in these is excellent. Pick the best you can afford.. and buy disks that are in the recommended list. ie the cheapest are not always the best.. indeed they seldom are.
Plan very carefully for rotation of USB drives (easy and cheap now with 4TB single drives). Rotate backups with offsite location on weekly basis.
I would buy a 4 disk case.. you can use 4x3TB which are the best value at the moment.. that gives you 9TB of storage.. plus redundancy for a dead drive.
Alternatives are using a Mac Mini as a server.. with a large stack of disks on it.. generally should be thinking thunderbolt if you want speed. Hideously expensive though for now.
You can buy an Extreme or TC.. either would work well. TC allows you easy TM backups without using your NAS..
Edit very large files on the computer. ie copy to computer.. edit.. copy back to the NAS.
Editing very large files over wireless.. not good. Multiply that by mutliple computers.. not even fair.
Copy a large project to the computer.. work on it.. copy back to the NAS.. in the meantime Time Machine should be able to take care of incremental backups.
There are heaps and heaps of solutions.. as long as it is logical and easy to you.. and covers what you need.
Don't skimp.. spending a $1000 for a NAS with disks.. plus extra for the backup disks.. that represents how many day's work for you plus anyone you have helping.. $$$$ ????
A mini as a server is a good alternative.. You don't need to run server OS.. but share files to the network. Very hard to build the capacity of the NAS though.
And a Mac Pro is now a joke without internal slots and cages for drives. (nice machine but wrong for this).
And Apple have nothing in between.. a short tower case.. been missing for a long long time.

  • Extreme for internet - Express for music?

I have Airport Extreme that is connected via ethernet to a dsl modem; a G4 iMac, without the airport card, is also connected to the base station.I have a new macbook and streaming music thru my stero speakers is more appealing than buy external computer speakers.
Could I use Airport Express for streaming music only? I need the wired access of AP Extreme for my iMac.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   G4 800mhz

Could I use Airport Express for streaming music only?
Yes. You will just want to add it as a wireless client to your AEBS's wireless network.
To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    - Wireless Network: <select the AEBS wireless network>
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Two Airport Express - 1 for Internet, 2nd for ITUNES

Technically challenged here. I am currently using one airport express to connect my cable modem to then wiressely connect MAC. It works great.
I have now purchased a second airport express to be able to connect to a stereo receiver in a different part of the house.
My question is how do I configure the second airport? Or, do I need to configure the original? Any help (and specific steps) would be greatly appreciated as I am hoping to begin to stream ITUNES.
    What are my options?
    Thanks,

preetz, Welcome to the discussion area!
You don't need to change any settings on the first AirPort Express (AX).
Configure the 2nd AX following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Two Thunderbolt Ethernet Cables - one for internet, one for Raspberry Pi

Hi, I'm running against a wall with this issue.
I recently purchased a second Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter, so that I could use one to connect to the internet via ethernet, and another, to connect my rMBP with a Raspberry Pi via ethernet. Try as I might, I cannot get both to work at the same time - - I've tried changing the sort-order to be either RPI-TB & Ethernet-TB, or Ethernet-TB followed by RPI-TB - -- I'm simply unable to connect to the RPI's IP-address (which would be 192.168.2.200) if I have functional internet on at the same time.
How should I go about fixing this issue - I would really rather not be using Wi-Fi.

    Hi, JerBear65,
Thanks for the suggestion; I followed your instructions and found:
    1. All of my listed servers are in use, so that wasn't it.
    2. The e-mail account configuration can't be the problem since, when I created the e-mail account(s) to try the various alternative OS X and OS 9 mail applications, I had to create the accounts fresh in those programs (I never normally used them before). Also, when I tried other existing e-mail accounts that I have on the same ISP in my normal e-mail activity, the problem was consistently the same throughout all the trial runs. It would have been unlikely that ALL of the settings for ALL of my seven e-mail accounts were simultaneously corrupted.
On the other hand, if I'm correct in assuming a corrupt preference file somewhere, it would have to be related to sending e-mail in OS X, yet NOT be accessed when sending e-mail while in OS X but sending through Classic 9.
That's what makes this problem so weird...
Regards, and thanks for your suggestion, and any others you might have,
    Alan Paul
    ==============================================
    Hello Alan Paul,
The first thing you might try is from the desktop.
Choose Go>go to folder and type library/scripts/mail
scripts and hit Go. Then choose manage SMTP
    servers.scpt
his will open the Script Editor and you would chose
Run. After it runs, it will show all mail severs not
in use and you can delete them.
When you close Script Editor it will ask if you want
to save the changes click YES so the changes will
take affect. Then restart and see if that helps.
The only other thing would be to delete that email
    account and then reconfigure.

I have a digital video recording system, which uses the the Internet Explorer for Remote Survelliance. It usually works with chrome and mozilla by adding ie-tab  plug-in's to it. Is there any such ie-tab for the safari. ?

  • Printer klling internet connection for all wifi devices in office

    Hi!
We bought office jet 8600 pro and connected it to the main office desktop computer through ethernet cable. This main computer is also connected to wifi router.
All other laptops in office are using wifi router for internet and for printing.
As soon as we installed new printer it started to conflict with alll wifi devices in office. Basically all laptops and phones loosing internet connection for 2-15 minutes. Usually when somebody from main computer is using printer.
I read in another thread about similar problem and tried to fix this by checking firmware version of router and making a static ip for printer. I put printer to 192.168.1.250. It didn't work, internet keep going down. As experiment i made a static ip for my own laptop too -192.168.1.50. it didn't work too. Need help. Thank you!

Sorry. Actually we have 2 routers. First one is working as a connector for ethernet and another one is a wifi router. Printer is connected to the router(connector). Wi-fi router is connected to router(connector) too.
If printer is connected to the router(connector) every 5-10 minutes wi-fi for all computers in the office become restricted (without internet access).
As soon as you are pulling out the ethernet cable from printer, everything works fine.
There are two computers that sharing printer by ethernet cable. Others are using wi-fi connection through  both routers to connect to the printer. Wi-fi printing is working good by the way.

  • Internet browsers for 10.1

How can I upgrade my browser? I want to try Safari but you require 10.2 or above. I'm currently using IE5.1. But I'm having problems from some sites saying I need to upgrade. Firefox needs 10.3 or above. Any suggestions for internet browsers for 10.1 will be appreciated.
    G3   Mac OS X (10.1.x)

As Niel says, Opera and iCab have browsers that work in OS X 10.1.x. iCab is the only browser whose current version will work in 10.1.x. Opera, along with Camino and OmniWeb offer earlier versions that will work under 10.1.x.
