Use of 5508 WLC across the WAN as MC for unified access

I came accross a remark that Cisco 5508 cannot be used for a MC role/functionality accross the WAN for Cisco 3850/3650 switches in the branch locations (acting as MA). The reason was some 10 ms transit time limits,..But i could not find any such mention in any of the documentation...Does any user have some link to this or perhaps a practical implemention experience.

From CA design perspective, it is making no sense to put a MC at a central office for a branch MA switch stacks. Typically a branch you may have 1 SPG & you better off MA/MC functionality within the same SPG.
If you have more than one SPG at your branch, then it is good idea to have a discrete controller at branch to do MC functionality (inter SPG roaming to be handled by MC). Instead,  if you keep MC at central office these user roaming decision will be taking un-acceptable amount of time depend on the WAN link propagation delays.

  • Can we use a 5508 WLC in Hong Kong and join 3602 APs in Vietnam to it? Any regulatory contraints?

    Hi friends,
I am looking for some wisdom here!
Just wondering if I can use a 5508 WLC in Hong Kong and join 3602 APs in Vietnam to it?
Any regulatory contsraints / guidelines that would prohibit from doing so?
    - Regards,
    Tarun.

You have two differnt regulations... here is a link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5679/ps5861/product_data_sheet0900aecd80537b6a_ps10981_Products_Data_Sheet.html
You need to make sure you are not breaking any rules and it is best to have an AP that is specific to that country.  Also if you add multiple country codes on a WLC, the AP's will only be able to use the most common channels and TX power setting allowed on both.  Here is a link explaining that.

  • CWA redirect issue and access across the WAN

    Hello,
I am trying to get CWA working on my wireless ISE setup and am having an issue where the guest portal redirect is pointing to the wrong port.  My setup is as follows:
The PSN has two connections - Gig 0 is on our management VLAN 172.24.x.x  Gig 1 is on our guest network VLAN 10.190.x.x
Using a laptop I connect to the guest ssid and guest portal times out as it is pointing to 172.24.x.x instead of the guest vlan 10.190.x.x
We do not want guest traffic on the corp network for obvious reasons.
One more question - Is it possible to have guest access work across the WAN?  For example, we have the admin box in Detroit and a PSN in Chicago.  Detroit's guest network is routed through a tunnel to Chicago currently.
    Some more info:
Here is from the radius authentication details -
    cisco-av-pair=url-redirect=https://172.24.24.41:8443/guestportal/gateway?sessionId=ac18180a000024a45151d92d&action=cwa
How do I force it to 10.190.x.x and how does ISE get 172.24.24.41 for the redirect address? DNS? I guess I am unfamiliar with how cisco-av-pair attribute is determined.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you ran anything such as MTR on a Linux box (or WINMTR equivalent on PC)?  If so, can you find a trend in loss or high latency on a specific hop on the path? I would ensure you adjust the ICMP payload size to a higher size such as 1000Bytes and adjust the ping interval to every two seconds or so.  This ensures you are not running into an issue where the provider is rate limiting your pings, which is not uncommon for some providers, if the pings (ICMP messages) are terminating on their endpoints.
Do you have QoS policies applied on interfaces on either end of these pings / traces?  If so, do you have assurance that ICMP messages will not be impacted by queue based dropping or shaping latency?  One solution is, move traffic from your ICMP traffic with the source or destination of your ICMP ping and trace endpoint in a priority queue with adequate bandwidth (should be a very low requirement).  This may not make sense since your bandwidth utilization is low, but shaping of busy flows can actually occur long before congestion, depending on your design.
Another item that may give you better insight is running and monitoring / graphing IP-SLA probes between your routers on each end.  You could then trend issues and give graphed evidence to your provider.  They could then compare your lossy  and high latency periods to their appliance interface, memory, and CPU loads to see if they can find a correlating trend.  It can be a hard battle to get ISPs to not only admit they have issues, but allocate resources to isolate and resolve these issues.  Good SLA probe data showing that their paths are not meeting delivery standards speak much louder that pings to them.

  • [svn] 3148: You can now use CSS styles to set the default text format for TextView.

    Log Message:
You can now use CSS styles to set the default text format for TextView. It no longer has any formatting properties. It supports the entire set of Gumbo text format styles.
SkinnableComponent and Group now also support all these styles. However, skins such as ButtonSkin, TextInputSkin, and TextAreaSkin continue for now to specify instance styles on their TextBox, TextGraphic, and TextView, in order to give them a Gumbo look rather than a Halo look. So if you try setting, for example, the fontSize on the Application, it doesn't yet affect the text format of a Button, TextInput, TextArea, etc. unless you remove the instance style in the skin.

  • Using (free) Linux gives me the money to pay for a Photoshop CC subscription.... I have the money

Using (free) Linux gives me the money to pay for a Photoshop CC subscription.... I have the money, Adobe Air works on Linux, why not Photoshop CC???
I have the money, I'm willing to pay.

How much does a PC operating system (i.e., Windows) cost?  About what a month of Creative Cloud subscription costs, assuming you took advantage of the Windows 8 initial offer.  If not, just a few months worth.  How is the price of the OS a factor?
People who expect to get real work done use a Mac or PC.  Probably just a Mac in the future.

  • I have a problem sending mail via smtp. I use a satellite system and the average return time for a ping is 675ms. Is this a problem with mail? If so can I change Mail to accept it. The problem also exists with Lion

I have a problem sending mail via smtp. I use a satellite system and the average return time for a ping is 675ms. Is this a problem with mail? If so can I change Mail to accept it. The problem also exists with Lion and on both my MacPro and my wife's Imac. I also see my mailboxes randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. Any other ideas of a possible cause?

I solved it myself, after the "note" which came back from FF/Mozilla just as I finished my message, commenting on what it was that my system had , I wnnt back to check my plug-ins etc. I downloaded the latest Java, BOTH 32bit AND 64 bit versions and latest Firefox.
    Now all is working.
    Thanks,

  • Oracle version of the Microsoft Application Blocks for Data Access

Where can I find an Oracle version of the Microsoft Application Blocks for Data Access? Is it tied to any specific version of the Oracle Client software? I currently have version 8.1.7.3 installed.

I think that DAAB 3.0 only has support for ODBC and OLEDB, which indeed can be used for Oracle. The Nile 3.0 program has an OracleHelper file, but this one uses the Microsoft Dataprovider for Oracle RDBMS. With some minor changes you can make this version work with the ODP.NET that Oracle provides.
The issue I'm trying to convey is, that it seems hard to use the Microsoft Application Blocks using ODP.NET. As I described earlier, the LOBs and REF Cursors are reference types that actually point to data in the Database. This means, that the Connection to the database must be open to get to the Data.
In the DataHelper, you open the Connection and get the data you need. The DataHelper should then clean up and close the Connection. Then you pass the data to the caller. However, since we're dealing with Reference types, a closed connection means no data.
So I guess the only way to make this easy to use and not having to assume the caller/developer will open and close connections, you must copy the data in an instance of a DataSet, before you close the connection and then pass the Dataset back to the caller.
I wonder if people have delt with this issue and what their solution looks like.
    thnx

  • Backup WLC across a WAN

Currently we have 20 remote sites, each with 2-5 AP's each. They all connect back to our Main Data Site in the US and register on a single WLC5508.
We do not have a backup WLC, but are looking to purchase one.
What I would like to know is, are there any problems with the secondary WLC being installed in our Main Data Site in Europe?
These two main sites are connected via a 10M MPLS WAN.
So all the remote sites could still connect to the WLC in the US, but in the event of a WLC failure in the US, they would need to fail over to the site in Europe.
Are there any issues with having WLC's seperated across a WAN?

Normally Flexconnect is leveraged for remote office locations like you described. However, you can drive all the traffic back.
Based on your design, do you have layer 2 between the locations? If they are different when aps move from controller 1 to controller 2 with a different subnet clients can have issues.

  • Can't put two 5508 WLCs in the same RF group

    Hi experts,
I have two 5508 WLCs and I want them to be backup to each other. I put in the same "RF Group Name" and even the same "Default Mobility Domain Name" however under Wireless -> 802.11b/g/n -> RRM -> RF Grouping each controller still only have themselves as the only memter to the group.
Two controllers are having management IPs on the same subnet 192.168.161.x/24. AP-manager interfaces are in the same network as well. They can ping each other fine. The following screen shots show the current relavent config on the controller:
I do have two controllers in the same mobility group and they are both showing up...
Does anyone know why they can't add each other to the RF group? All other settings are pretty much default...
    Thanks!

    Hi,
is there a chance that one of the 2 WLC doesn't contain any access point ? Or that the APs from one WLC are not physically close to the APs of the second WLC ?
The point of RF grouping is to exchange RF information, to make RRM decisions together and to know what ap is a rogue and which is not. RF group information travels over the air from AP to AP.
So if a wlc has no ap of if its APs are not close to those of the other WLC there is both no point in grouping with the other WLC in rf group and also no technical way of doing so.

  • Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SF card as the default install location for software applications?

Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SD card / external drive as the default install location for software applications? Primarily interested in apps installed from the windows store. This should be available in the settings
charm within the windows store. This must have been overlooked in the development of windows 8.1 or is a bug.

The registry method does not work with 8.1.  I found this out the hard way.  Doing it on 8.1 will leave you reinstalling the OS if you didn't do a SRP beforehand.

  • Analyzer 7 Across the WAN using NAT addresses

We have acquired several companies that have their own internal ip addresses that are duplicates of some of our internal ip addresses. To overcome this we use Network Address Translation (NAT). However, we cannot get Analyzer to work with these NAT addresses. The users receive the logon page, but the "domain" box is empty. We have tried adding entries to the remote DNS's that map the NAT addresses to our servers, but this hasn't worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Using iDVD 3, what is the best set up for faster encoding?

Hi all. I just upgraded my G4 to 1Ghz and 1.25g ram. Got a new SuperDrive and wanting to crack out some DVDs. I noticed that the encoding process is the slowest ever. What (if anything other than buying a new mac) can I do to increase encoding process? Or can it be sped up. I did use MacSweeper on my HD and made sure that it has at least 20G available.
    Thanks for your help.

FINALLY! I found out what was wrong with my system. I needed to download the Patchburn to get my system to recognize the DVD burner. I think I actually saw this somewhere, but the good folks at Other World Computing mentioned this to me. Anyway, let the burning begin! Thanks for your help.
