Use of an NTSC Television Set

One thing I learned years ago during production is that the Director should always be at a NTSC television set to see what the ACTUAL footage looks like during a shoot. What you see in a cam LCD screen is not what you'll see on a set. So, during all our productions, we bring a monitor to the location. As the director, I'll be referring to that monitor to see the 'composure' is what I want.  Of course, editing, color correction, audio correction and other attributes are always implemented during the editing process later, but viewing an actual set is primary, in my opinion.
Back in the day, when using PrePro 1.5, I could hook up my GL2 cam via it's output to the TV and switch to INPUT 1 and watch the footage through there. Another nice thing is that I could also (then) watch the TV during the editing process, a real plus.
CS5 doesn't seem to have that capability. I hook up my GL2 to my set's INPUT1 and I can review camera footage fine, but it doesn't seem to work when I'm editing. All I get is a blue screen. Did ADOBE PrePro CS5 lose that function?  I can't really rely on the native monitor (well, I guess I could), because I'd like to see my safe area as it would look on/via a DVD signal, etc.
Any fix or workaround for this dilemna, or must I now rely on the montior screen built in to CS5?
Thanks for any help

Not true.  Maybe... if you are still using FW or something.  I edit daily on my system with 2- 24" Dell Computer monitors and 1-HD NTSC monitor without sync lag or any other problems.  You just need the right equipment to do so.  Any card from BM or AJA, etc can acomplish this for professional editing.
My preferred method since I am now tapeless, is to use two video cards in the machine, the GTX470 for MPE playback and the second card, a lowly GeForce 7600 to drive the HD monitor.
... it's all in the cards!
If you are using two cards do you even need a BM or AJA?
Did you have any compatibility issues using two different video cards?

  • Editing using a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor

I have Final Cut Express 2 and use it with a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor.
I have started to use iMovie with this same set up. I save my iMovie projects to an external hard drive and also have my miniDV deck connected via firewire with the composite outputs going into a 27 inch television so that I can get a better idea of what my colors and title safe framing, etc. look like.
I have had some minor problems with this set up. Like stuttering video, audio tracks playing back when thay are "unchecked" and the "unexpectedly quit" deal.
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • IDVD and standard (NTSC) television resolution...

If I understand correctly, television has 525 horizontal scan lines (NTSC), but I cannot find any options in any video conversion apps that offer a resolution option of 525x?.
What is the best resolution to choose when converting DVD files (which may be widescreen) to play on a standard television set with no black bars above, below or on the sides?
Also, what DVD file format should I choose to be safe as far as everyone being able to use it? If someone has a DVD console that is 9 years old, what is the safest file format to use.
And lastly, iDVD says it can use a dual-layer disc for up to 7.7GB of space. All my dual-layer blank DVD discs say they can hold up to 8.5GB.
    Why the huge discrepancy?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanx.

    Hello Michael,
*If I understand correctly, television has 525 horizontal scan lines (NTSC), but I cannot find any options in any video conversion apps that offer a resolution option of 525x?.*
The reason for this is that 525 scan line standard refers to analog video. See this guide for further confusion: http://lipas.uwasa.fi/~f76998/video/conversion/
The standard for NTSC digital video (DV) is 720x480
*What is the best resolution to choose when converting DVD files (which may be widescreen) to play on a standard television set with no black bars above, below or on the sides?*
The resolution should be that of the source (in this case the DVD) ... but you might run into trouble here because of widescreen issues as widescreen has the same resolution but a different pixel aspect ratio.
*Also, what DVD file format should I choose to be safe as far as everyone being able to use it? If someone has a DVD console that is 9 years old, what is the safest file format to use.*
The video format for a DVD is given: It is multiplexed MPEG-2 (VOB files). iDVD will output just that.
*And lastly, iDVD says it can use a dual-layer disc for up to 7.7GB of space. All my dual-layer blank DVD discs say they can hold up to 8.5GB*
Although most manufacturers of hard disks and Flash disks define 1 gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes, the computer operating systems used by most users usually calculate a gigabyte by dividing the bytes (whether it is disk capacity, file size, or system RAM) by 1,073,741,824. This distinction is a cause of confusion, as a hard disk with a manufacturer rated capacity of 400 gigabytes may have its capacity reported by the operating system as only 372 GB, depending on the type of report.
    hope this helps

  • Connection of MacBook and television set

When I connect our MacBook to our television set, all that appears on the set is Apple's background graphic.  I believe there's an easy way to synchronize the two, but I don't know what it is.  Can somebody tell me the secret?
    Larry

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode with the MacBook as the main screen. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to use the MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • Can I use a gmail account to set up my child's IPhone?

Can I use a gmail account to set up my child's iphone? He already has a gmail account I don't want to set up an icloud email address. My husband and I could use our gmail addresses.

You can use any email address that you like as an Apple ID - it doesn't have to be an icloud one.
My only suggestion would be to use an address that you know you will have access to for a long while - like the gmail one - so you don't have to worry about changing the Apple ID in the future.

My daugther' iphone apple id is under my wife's email and now all music and pictures are attached to that id.  My wife now has an ipad and I am looking at using the existing id during set up?   Thus, I would like to establish new apple id for daughter, associated to her email account, however I do not want to lose or share her music/photos, nor share with my wife's id.  Is this possible, or is it best just to establish a new id for my wife, and then change the email address associated with the existing apple id?

well if you establish a new apple id for your wife that would be best unless you email all of the existing photos to your email and then when you have established a new id then you log into your email on the new id and save all of your pics onto it by pressing on tthe pic for about 5-8 seconds then options will come up and you press the save to my album ..as for the music if you can copy and paste, through computer, the songs then awesome!

  • Can I use my Time Capsule to set up multiple networks, or just one?

Can I use my Time Capsule to set up multiple networks, or just one?  We'd like to offer the internet to clients who are at our studio, but don't want them able to access all our computers, so a second network for them would be useful.

    Two big IFs here.
Not all versions of the Time Capsule have Guest Networking capability, so it might be a good idea to verify that first. Can you provide the model number of your Time Capsule.  it's on the bottom of the device.....starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
Next, assuming that the Time Capsule has Guest Network capability, the next requirement would be to verify that your modem is compatible with the Time Capsule for that feature.
Basically, you need a simple modem.....not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers.  If you are not sure what you have, post back with the make and model number of your "modem" and we'll see if we can find some details ont he device.

Hi uneleashurself and thanks for your answer.
Forgive my language but getting to talk to the Safaricom customer service is a real pain in the **bleep** - if you ever get to talk to them, that is.
I've never got an answer to my phone calls in three years and their customer assistans in the shops usually have no clue about whatever it is you're asking them.
I talked to a few of them in a couple of different Safaricom shops and they didn't know what I was talking about.
Still, I believe Safaricom is not the problem as other people I know who have a BlackBerry on Safaricom haven't experienced this problem.

  • Hi, I am using Indesign CS6, How to set the page size in Inches.

Hi, I am using Indesign CS6, How to set the page size in Inches.

All fields in InDesign can be entered in any measurement system. So, if you want to make an 8"x10" document and go to File>New Document and the window looks like this:
…you can type either 8 in or 8" into the Width field like this:
…and when you move to the next field, it will convert the eight inches into the equivalent number in the unit of measure that it is using at the moment, like this:
… (203.2 milimeters is the same as 8 inches). You can also enter a different measurement unit into other fields once the file is created, such as the width or height of a frame, or the position of an object in the X and Y coordinates.
If you would rather just work in inches instead of having to type the inches mark or abbreviation, go to InDesign>Preferences>General and select the Units & Increments tab. There you will see Ruler Units for Horizontal and Vertical at the top of the window. Set them to Inches and all of the fields will display in inches. If you do that to an open document, you will change the unit of measure for that document. If you do it while no documents are open, it will change the unit of measure for any new documents you create. To change the unit of measure for existing documents, you will have to open each and make the change.

You have to create stored procedure in SQL only .
Like u must have create for Crystal .
You can execute procedure in query manager but you have to enter parameter manually..
    example
    Exec @Test '20140101' '20140501'
Every time user has to enter it manually in yyyymmdd format in case of date parameters.
    Example
    Create Proc [@Test]
    as begin
    DECLARE @name AS date
    Declare @name2  AS date
    /* SELECT FROM [2013].[dbo].[OINV] T0 */
    /* WHERE */
    select  '2013',t5.U_salmannm,t1.CardName,t2.sumapplied as CollectionAmount,t2.DcntSum ,t3.DocTotal as InvoiceTotal,

I am new to creating DVDs and I am not sure what settings will give me the best quality when I burn it to DVD. I live in Australia, should I use PAL or NTSC settings? Any other hints?

    Hi
My best Guess is - PAL
Does Your electicity current use 50Hz or 60Hz
    Sweden 240V 50Hz - TV - 25 frames per sec = PAL
    USA 110V 60Hz - TV - 29,97 fps = NTSC
    AND
Then it comes to HOW the Video was recorded - AS iDVD does not convert in a very good way. I use JES_Deinterlacer to do this when I need to send a DVD to USA. and it's free on Internet and even very expencive converters doesn't do it any better.
