Use of captions in PSE 12. Is it available??

How do I add a caption to photo in PSE 12? I click on add caption, add caption but it does not appear in slide show nor in an attached e-mail nor in the Grid. Is this function available in PSE 12? It worked in PSE 11.

I suspect that I can delete all the files from the catalog and then import them again.
That should get new caption metadata.
I suppose you had written your metadata to files before the external change; so, yes you could get back the updated metadata, but...
But, those pictures are in albums and I don't know what the impact is for removing pictures from the catalog is on the album content when I re-import them.
You'd lose your albums, stacks, version sets, projects...
If you have only albums, you could assign tags to each one of the albums to be able to recover the albums. But you would still lose any custom sort order for your albums. Keeping the sort order would mean renaming your files with a common starting name... a lot of work if you want to keep the order in many albums.

  • In premiere pro creative cloud, can I export using closed captioning in HD and SD formatting?

Is it possible to export in HD and SD formatting using closed captioning? Reason for this question is, I'm about to create 48 half hour videos. 24 of them have to be in HD format and 24 of the others have to be in SD format using mp2 for airing on television. Will this work in closed captioning?

  • Aperture 3.1 uses Facebook captions as Version Names

Not sure whether this has happened due to the u/g to 3.1, but while still running 3.0.3 I exported a set of photos to Facebook.
By default, the Caption shown in FB is the filename (version name).
*In FB* I edited the captions but now Aperture is using those captions as the version names of the original photos (i.e. in the Projects, not just in the Facebook albums).
This is not good, since I now have several photos with the same version name!!!!
Is the the expected behaviour? I can't find a pref that affects it.
    Anyone else seen this?

David Riecks has an article on the issues with Aperture and IPTC metadata over at:
    http://digitalassetmanagementnews.org/taxonomy-metadata/aperture-3-removes-iptc- extension-and-plus-embedded-metadata/
    and
    http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/aperture3.html
It appears that you are correct in your assertion that Apple (Aperture) does not adhere to the IPTC standard for image metadata. Ad Mr. Riecks points out, this should be of major concern for anyone using Aperture as their image warehouse and then exporting their images out to anyone who does adhere to the IPTC standard as some of your most important data (inclusive of location, identification, rights use, and copyright - aka IPTC Core in Aperture) are essentially lost.
Very disappointing indeed! Failure to adhere to industry standards are the primary reason I stopped using Windows products and made the migration to Apple.
Hopefully Aperture will address this in coming releases to include the extraction of Faces data into the IPTC 1.1 Extension Description structure "Person Shown" with an option to extract the Faces data into the IPTC1.1 Extension Models structure "Model Shown" fields.

  • Printing the grid used in creating a PSE 10 drawing

    Hello,
I have created a scaled floor plan dwng using the grid in PSE 10. It would be very useful to me to be able to print the grid directly with my drawing - preferably as a semi-opaque 'background'.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    1. Add a blank layer and fill with white.
    2. Activate the grid on the white layer.
    3. Take a screenshot of the grid and place it in a new layer. Use the Move tool to resize this layer so that the grid matches the original.
    4. Delete or turn off the visibility of the white layer.
    5. Change the Blend mode of the grid layer to Multiply.
Note: you can use the PrtSct key for the screenshot but there are utilities where you can draw out the precise region.  I use Winsnap:  http://www.ntwind.com/

  • PSE 8 - Slideshow music availability?

    Hello!
In previous versions of PSE, when you created a slideshow in Organizer and clicked to add audio, a list of about a dozen music selections came up to choose from (A Taste of Sicily, Ancient Beijing, etc.).
With PSE 8, when you click to add audio, the music selections aren't there.
Interestingly enough, they do seem to have been loaded with the software, but in a file that is hidden.  (If you go to C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Elements/Organizer/8/Music - there's the list!)
My question is this:  Is there a straightfoward way to access that list of Adobe music without having to unhide hidden files and wander through so many layers to get to it?  I understand that someone could use their own music if they wanted to, but my question is about how the program is intended to work.
    Thank you!
    Beverly Schulz

Here is a workaround that you might try if you want to use any of the PSE 8 provided music files --
I am running Vista Home Premium. Within the slideshow editor, when I click on Add Audio, it displays the folder named "Music" that is under my Windows userid.
So why don't you create a new folder under that Music folder and then copy the PSE provided music files from
    C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Elements/Organizer/8/Music
to this folder that you created under your Windows userid.(You could make this a separate folder from your personal music.)
Then you will not need to reference the hidden files when making a slide show.
FYI - these audio files are also cataloged in your PSE 8 catalog with the folder location under Program Data\Adobe  (you might not see them initially because audio files are not displayed by default but if you add Audio as a type of file to display you should see them). You MIGHT want to remove the current entries from your PSE catalog and then catalog those mp3 files again from the Music folder under your Windows userid.
Of course if you plan to use your own music files instead of the few PSE provided files, you don't need to do any of what I described in this post.
FYI - I did a quick check on PSE 7 and it seems to be the same as PSE 8.  I don't have any other earlier versions installed on this computer. I can't say why Adobe placed these mp3 files where they are.

  • I share a an apple id with my kids. We all use the same credit card for purchases.  Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids?

My kids and I all use the same credit card and password for app and music purchases.   I'm assuming we all use the same apple ID too. (not sure) We can share apps and music although we all have our own itunes libraries. Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids or do we all have our own storage?

I just checked and they have already sucked up all my online storage.  Ahhh techy teens!  I think I will just leave it at that and back my own stuff up on my computer. Less confusing
Thanks for all the help!  I am definitely more educated now and I'm off to check that cc bill too.

  • Help for using camera raw in PSE 8/Bridge for Mac for the Canon 7D

Recently purchasing the Canon 7D, taking a few test photos in Raw, then trying to use Camera Raw in PSE8/Bridge for Mac is a problem.  I cannot figure it out.  Can anyone help this frustrated, novice computer user?

You need to update the camera raw plug-in for bridge and PSE 8 separately (they use two different copies). In Bridge, just go to Help>Updates which will install, I think, ACR 5.7, which  works with your camera. (You can't update bridge beyond that version).
For PSE 8, go here, download the latest version and follow the instructions in the readme file.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh
Note that the directions may tell you that you can overwrite the old plug-in. That isn't true--you must remove it before putting the new one in there.

  • Possible to use rollover caption & image at the same time?

If a user points to an area on the screen I want a caption to display (with voiceover) AND an image to display elsewhere on the screen at the same time. Is this possible? Is seems as though, because of the layering of objects on the screen, this cannot be accomplished?

    Hi Karin
This is normally where one would consider using a Rollover Slidelet. Basically you roll over one area and a second area is revealed. The second area would then contain the image as well as the caption.

  • Using external editor with PSE 9

I use CS4 as my external editor.Typically Adobe installs 2 versions 32 and 64 bit versions of CS4.
When using Ctrl-H from within PSE9, it always calls the 64 bit version of CS4. How can I tell it to use the 32 bit version. I have to use 32 bit CS4 because of some plugins I need that do not work with the 64 bit version.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The work around is to copy the 32 bit application to My documents. Then rename it and put it back. You will have two identical applications. When you browse to the renamed application PSE will be fooled into thinking it’s another program.

  • Can Premier Pro make use of caption and keyword metadata from Lightroom

I’m using Premier CS6 to create a slideshow with images from Lightroom. When I export from Lightroom, I have quite a bit of Metadata encoded into the image and I’m wondering if there is a way to see that metadata in Premier?
I’m probably dreaming but I’d love to be able to create a lower third, title template that would get its information from the Caption field in Lightroom.
Any other tips for using Lightroom and Premier together would be appreciated.

Whatever metadata is viewable in PP will be available in the metadata pane.  However, titles cannot automatically 'grab' their data from any source.  It has to be typed or copied in manually.

  • Why can't I use Outlook 2013 with PSE 11 to share images in Windows 8.1?

In the PSE 11 tutorials under sharing images via email, it clearly lays out that Outlook and Outlook Express are email clients available to share images by email or photo mail. I'm using PSE 11 with Windows 8.1. When I go to edit>preferences>sharing and then drop down to select Outlook, there's no email clients there but Adobe Mail Service. I chatted with an Adobe rep who basically told me "sorry", you can't use Outlook. Yet that's one of the primary reasons I bought PSE 11...the sharing functionality using Outlook and Windows 8.1. What's with this?

Brian - Thanks. You were spot on. The PSE 11 sharing issue I described is on an Acer S7 laptop I bought over a year ago. At that time I separetely bought a version of Office from the Microsoft Store. Since the Windows 8.0 version installed on the Acer was 64 bit, I bought the 64 bit Office version. I never tried to share anything off PSE 11 from the Acer until just recently. And I was perplexed when I tried because of what I describe below
Fast forward to two months ago when I bought a Dell XPS 27 All-in-One for my wife. It came with Win 8 64 bit and I had Dell factory install Office as part of the deal. After I got the XPS 27 I separately installed a new version of PSE 11. Low and behold, the Office version Dell factory installed is 32 bit. They had more farsight than me. And PSE 11 shares fine on the XPS 27 using Outlook.
So thanks again. You solved the riddle for me, at least with respect to my wife's desktop. On my Acer laptop, I can't get the share function to work with either Adobe Mail service or Windows Live Mail. Those are the only two clients that appear in the drop down but neither will work. Not sure what that's all about. But having PSE share seemlessly through Outlook on my wife's machine was the priority for me right now.
