Use of ethernet port stopped working

I use my Airport Express to connect to my existing wireless network (an Airport Extreme Base Station).
For over a year I've been using the ethernet port on the express to connect to my Playstation 2 so I can play video games over the internet and it's worked great.
Mysteriously, it recently stopped working. When I go into base station options (in the Airport Admin) it says "ethernet port always disabled when connected to existing wireless network."
I don't know if it said that before when it used to work, but I'm wondering if something changed.
I recently read through the forum and saw all the problems with the recent firmware upgrade and I seem to have successfully downgraded to 6.1.1 but the problem persists.
Does anyone have any ideas?
btw, I tried hooking my laptop to the Airport Express ethernet connection to make sure it wasn't the PS2 that was the problem. But that didn't work either.
Please help!!
Thanks,
Brad

  • Ethernet port stops working on location change

I seem to have a problem with my ethernet port not working after a specific location change...
I have three locations I used frequently. Let's call them:
    1) HomeWireless
    2) WorkWireless (used when I'm in meetings)
    3) WorkEthernet (used when I'm at my desk)
My general practice is to change locations just before putting my MacBook Pro to sleep, and then it is happily ready for the desired network when it is awoken.
I'm not sure what this change in behavior coincided with, but as of ~1 month ago, I am finding that going from WorkWireless to WorkEthernet, my ethernet port appears to be completely dead and I have to reboot the computer to reactivate it (yes, I've checked the cable itself and the wall port at they're OK). I've tried a couple ways of disabling & re-enabling it in software, but I don't get the impression anything actually resets this interface - suggestions are welcome as perhaps I just didn't try the right thing. I couldn't find anything quite the same as "networksetup -setairportpower" for the ethernet port.
Oddly, this is not an issue with going from HomeWireless to WorkEthernet. Both HomeWirelss and WorkWireless have the ethernet interface deactivated in the Network pref pane, and perhaps the only notable difference between HomeWirelss and WorkWireless is that I use a static IP on the former and dynamic on the latter.
Does anyone have an idea why this could be happening, or have any suggestions for something to check (e.g. some difference to look for between HomeWireless and WorkWireless that might hint at the issue), or at the very least a means of resstarting the ethernet port without rebooting.
    Thanks for any help,
    -Gene

I'm still experiencing this issue. Anyone else? Any help on either understanding/fixing the underlying issue, or with resetting the Ethernet port to deal with it?

  • I just noticed that my ethernet port stopped working.

I looked, and it seems to be a bit damaged. I also noticed that the power supply chord tends to come loose. How much do you think it will cost to have this fixed at the Apple Store? Will it be worth it?

To fix the power cord, you will need to buy a new power adapter, or try to bend the external ring on the plug back into shape.
To fix the ethernet port, you will need to have a new logic board fitted. This will cost hundreds of dollars. If the ethernet port as is works currently, I would leave to live with it.

  • CSS11501 Ethernet Port stops working

We've had a CSS11501 installed for around 18 months. In the past 8 months we've had three occurrences were we loose IP connectivity on the uplink from the CSS to a Cisco 3560 however nothing has changed. When the issue occurs we are unable to ping the C3560 from the CSS and vice versa and all IP connectivity to servers attached to the CSS is lost from the C3560. The first time this occurred we rebooted the CSS and the issue cleared. The second time this occurred we physically move the UTP cable providing the uplink to the C3560 from port1 on the CSS to port 2 and the problem cleared. We equipment shows no events within the logs.
I've searched the bug database but have not found anything matching this issue. We are using version sg0810106 (08.10.1.06).
I would appreciate any advice and a suggested fix from anyone else who may of had a similar issue.
    Thanks,
    Chris

All I can think off is if they are in auto-negotiate, they could fail to negotiate.
Can you try to hardcode the speed and duplexity on both the CSS and the router.

  • "The Cable for Ethernet is not plugged in": Ethernet port stopped working

This happened to me on a 17" MBP in April, and now in a new 17" MBP. I find it too coincidental that this has happened RIGHT after several Apple Mac OS X updates this week. I don't believe its hardware as the diagnostics pass. I have tried the computer on several known working ethernet cables and no dice. A survey of the other discussions show this is not an isolated problem, but for me, neither resetting the power management, zapping PRAM, deleting then adding the Ethernet Interface in the Network Sys Prefs, or running Cocktail's scripts and cache cleaning has made a difference. Anyone have another idea?

I also got my MBP 17 in the middle of April. Everything worked great until around May 9th. Then I suddenly got the "cable unplugged" message for my ethernet, and nothing I can think of will fix it.
I have tried multiple modems, routers, connections, and cables, along with the suggested PRAM reset, deleting and adding the Ethernet Interface, and everything else I can think of or find online. The computer is going in to IT tomorrow anyways, so I will let you know what they have to say about it.

  • MDB and Database - Listener port stops working

    Hi,
I have created an MDB which does the following when a message is received from the queue.
    1. Store message in database
    2. do some processing
At step 1, if there is any issue with the database connection (e.g. database is not available etc), I rollback transaction. My idea is to leave the message on queue for now and retry it again after some time unless the database is back again. "Maximum retries" of the listener port is set to N but since there is no retry interval available, all N retries are done in a flash and my listener port stops working. I cannot use backout mechanism as I have to wait for the database to be back again. What are my options?

a simple JDBC rollback won't do it.

  • A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  WHen we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?

A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?  Obviously the device is operational.  Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn?  If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

  • Intel wired ethernet driver stops working

We have this issue with several T400 and T500 series ThinkPads that the Intel ethernet driver stops working after a while. All this started to happen maybe a month ago. We have both 32- and 64-bit Windows 7 OSs.
Wired ethernet works ok first, but after a few hours or a day or two this yellow exclamation mark appears on the network icon and it says limited or no connectivity. Wired network stops working and there is nothing we can do to fix this other than reboot the computer. It doesn't even shut down properly, just says "Shutting down" forever and blinks the HDD led maybe once a second. So we have to force it and after booting everything is ok until the next time this happens.
When the network stops working, nothing can be done with the driver because everything just hangs. You cannot disable the connection or uninstall the adapter from Device Manager or anything. Unplugging the ethernet cable does not help either. There is nothing about this problem in the Event log other than about the symptoms of not having a network connection.
What could be the source of this problem? Do you have any ideas about how to diagnose this problem further? We have the newest driver and I have also tried the newest driver from Intel.

Go to Local Area Connection (Wired Intel adapter), Properties and the Configure button, in the Power Management Tab UNCHECK "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power".
Window7 does NOT always resolve IP and DHCP when it come out of sleep etc. All attempt to release/renew are in vain. I have seen this on various systems for some time. Occassionally a router reboot fixes it but most of the time is the PC. Frustrating but for Wired use this should always be disabled if you're using it a lot. Power savings is not in your best interest.
Let me know if that does it.

  • Can I use the ethernet port ....

Can I use the ethernet port on the ATV to connect my blue ray p[layer to the internet using the ATV as a wireless card??
    If so how??

I might be next in line on the airport extreme! Right now wireless is working better since the latest upgrade to iTunes, but hardwire is the way to go. Only problem is that ISP connections is in my office and my Home Media is downstairs. I was thinking of setting the Airport Extreme as a repeater in order to access ISP and then used the ports in the back for iTunes and ATV.

  • Ports stopped working.

I used to use port 8001 for a lot of things. Recently, the port stopped working. I triple checked all my router settings and port 8001 is still forwarded. I tried other ports. I rebooted. I tried shutting off my firewall. Nothing worked. I really need a port working for various things so I need some help. Tell me if you need any additional information and I'll tell you. Does anyone know what I should do??

Well, I did everything you said and I'm sure I did it right. No luck. I have a feeling that something else is going on here, but I'm not sure what I should do. Anyone have any ideas?

  • After i updated to mavericks, my usb ethernet adapter stopped working.

I'm not sure why, but when I updated my software to mavericks, my USB ethernet adapter stopped working.

    I'm using that adapter:
    http://www.edimax.com/en/support_detail.php?pd_id=445&pl1_id=5&pl2_id=26
After I updated to Mavericks, I installed the driver in this page, but it didn't work. Then I googled "AX88772" which is my adapter's part no. or something like that, and I installed that one:
    http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=97
I wasn't expecting that work but that did work. So, I think the solution of the problem is finding the right driver. I hope you solve your problem too.

  • Satellite R830 - USB3.0 port stop working after long time usage

    Hi there,
This is my new laptop. I got it just one week. However, USB 3.0 port is very weird. It always stop working when i used it for several hours. I try to update the driver, but i still seems not working.
    are there any other solutions?

    >well, it will stop working as well when i use it as data transfer.
So how long does it take until the USB 3.0 port stops working?
Does it interrupt the data throughput?
Did you use the USB 3.0 compatible devices?
On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the USB 3.0 driver version 2.0.34.1.
    Are u using this version?

  • I can not use the Ethernet Port to connect another device.  My Airport Express allowed me to do this.

I want to use the Ethernet Port for my Apply TV for another device (Direct TV box), but it doesn't work.  I have Airport Express with an Ethernet port and I was able to plug my Direct TV box to download.

It's not designed to extend a network, and plugging in ethernet disables wi-fi in any case.
