Use of EtreCheck to solve WiFi problem

I had a problem with my MacBook Air (original) running 10.7.5. Although the icon in the menubar showed a WiFi connection, I couldn't get any data from the network. Also Airport Utility couldn't see any of the four base stations on my network. I'll leave out the blind alleys and just say what I did to solve the problem.
I rebooted in Safe Mode, and found the problem went away. I ran EtreCheck and saved the results. I rebooted normally and found the WiFi problem was still there. I ran EtreCheck again and saved the results. On comparing the results, I found AirParrot kernel extensions were running in normal boot mode. I figured that might interfere with normal WiFi functioning.
I went to the AirParrot website and found a removal tool. I downloaded that and ran it. On rebooting, the problem was gone. EtreCheck confirmed that the AirParrot extensions were no longer present. Case closed.
I hope this will help someone use a similar method to solve her WiFi, or indeed, other problems. All thanks to the experts on this discussion group who have labored to solve people's problems and put EtreCheck together as a useful tool!

Hello najlaa1399,
It sounds like you don't have access to your rescue email and would like to reset your security questions.  I found an article with information that should help:
If you decide not to provide a rescue email address, you can't reset your security questions and answers yourself later in the event you can't remember the answers to your questions. You'll need to contact iTunes Store support to have your questions and answers reset.
This is also true if you don't have access to the rescue email.   You can find the full article here:

After upgrade to iOS 8 and after to 8.0.2 I can't use my iPad because of wifi problem

I am having a similar experience.  Since upgrading my Ipad 2 to iOS 8 and then iOS 8.0.2 I have not been able to use wifi consistently and it is very frustrating.  I can no longer watch any video because the wifi shuts down and won't come back without a complete reboot of the iPad. And forget about consistent bluetooth!  My ipad worked perfect before the "upgrade" to iOS 8 and beyond but now it is really worthless.  I have spent a lot of time and have tried every fix that I have read about online and NOTHING has corrected the problems created by the upgrade.  After spending a lot of time trying to resolve this I am certain the problem is the buggy "upgrade" but I feel like no one at Apple is listening.  I have always loved Apple products but this rotten Apple experience is making me think about exploring what else is out there.  Apple folks, I recommend getting this fixed quick or your stockholders won't be smiling!

  • HT204017 Yosemite update does not solve wifi problems

yosemite update does not solve wifi.  Apple are as garbage as Microsoft now, but they have the cheek to charge twice as much!,
Apple, you have lost my future business...might as well buy a cheap windows laptop now.

    Hello Chutley,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Depending on what is happing with your Wi-FI connection, the update may or may not resolve your issues. Since updating didn't resolve your issues, you might want to take a look at the following article for additional steps to try:

  • Is there anyway to solve Wifi problem on Macbook while using it closed and connected to external display?

    Hello,
I'm using my Macbook connected to external LCD while the screen of the Macbook is closed. So I can use the full screen resoluiton of my LCD. When not closed but connected the mirroring reduces the resolution and not useful.
But recently I recognized that when the Macbook screen is closed my fiber internet speed is down almost %50. When I test my fiber speed, when the macbook screen is open it's around 20mb/s, when the screen is closed and connected to LCD it's around 10 mb/s. I guess the wifi antenna is located at the screen I don't know. Is there any way to solve this probem? I want to use the lid closed without any sacrifice from my internet speed.
Thanks for any answers in advance

I have this same issue but what's strange is that it's only recently occurred since upgrading to FiOS's 50MB/s service.  I was seeing 20MB/s WiFi speeds with my previous 25MB/s service.  Frustrating!!

  • Static IP solves WiFi Problems

Since upgrading to IOS 4.2 my iPad would not stay connected to my network. Worked well on IOS 3.2. After reading the Princeton and other reports about Apple's DHCP implementation, I switched my iPad to a static IP and have not had any problems.
The iTunes remote app almost never worked, now works as advertised.
Static IP's may be a bit old school and may not work in every environment, but until Apple conforms to a standard DHCP implementation it should work for most home networks.

I too have been having really bad loss of connectivity issues since upgrading my iPad to 4.2.1, and NEVER had an issue with 3.2.1. Until now the only solution I had was to turn WiFi off and on, then it would be OK for a while - maybe minutes, maybe hours.
Following suggestions here I have assigned a static IP to my iPad and so far it's looking good. It's too early to say for sure yet, but I haven't had a failure since I made the change, and I must have had 10 to 15 failures yesterday. I'll post again if I see the problem again, but for now it's looking good.
I agree with others that if this is the issue then this is a workaround not a fix. I can't help wondering if IOS has an issue with DHCP servers on certain TYPES of router ... I'm using a Cisco WRVS4400N.

  • [SOLVED]WiFi problem (broadcom 4313)

    Aloha,
I have a problem with broadcom 4313 wireless chipset. After clean installation of the system ip link set wlp1s0 up returned rf-kill error. It was a hsrdware block. I downloaded broadcom-wl driver from AUR, makepkg it and pacman -U it. Then rmmod ssb; rmmod bcma; modprobe wl. After that I was able to  ip link set wlp1s0 up. The interface is UP! But in NetwarkManager (gnome applet) or in wicd I can't connect any network (the list of available networks is empty) while I am able to estabilish wired (ethernet) connection.
    Thank's for the future answers!

  • Can HP SW supplied with Officejet 6110 be used with Rosetta to solve scanning problem

Snow Leopard will not recognize the HP Officejet 6110 AIO scanner. Apparently HP Director is not provided with the driver. Can this be rectified by loading the app from the disc supplied with the AIO with Rosetta in place?

HP Support indicates that the current driver is 1.2. When I got the new computer a few weeks ago I updated the driver for the 6110 to 1.2 so I should be current. HP Support indicates that scanning is not supported for this AIO.

  • I have a ploblem: My Ipad already connected wifi. But I cannot use the safari application or App Store. It's showing "the Internet is not connecting". How to solve this problem?

What will I solve this problem?

You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

At an apple forum they said that updating will solve this problem. I just updated it to 8.0.2 but still wifi is greyed out. In settings>general>about, there is an option of wifi address which shows N/A. What is the problem? Is is the hardware? Kindly guide me.

I have a IPhone 5 and Iphone 5s, each phone is activited with a different service provider. Both are set up with the same account ID and running IOS 8.0.2. When the phones are connected to the same Wifi at home, both phones will ring when someone call in to one of the phone.  Hence you do not know exactly which line the caller called.  If you answered using the wrong phone, then anyone calling the other number will not get through.  Anyway to solve this problem?

    Hey David Koh TP,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your devices are set up to use continuity together. Specifically, it sounds like you are signed into the same Apple ID in FaceTime, and have iPhone Cellular Calls enabled. To resolve your issue, simply disable this setting:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6337
    Turn off iPhone cellular calls
To turn off iPhone Cellular Calls on a device, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I'm using firefox 4 en Gmail. When I choose my contacts there is no button for new contacts. In IE9 it is there. I've done everything what is on the net to solve this problem. But nothing works.

I can't work in Gmail since I use firefox 4. The button "New Contacts" doesn't appear. I've tried everything to solve this problem: thrown away history, cookies and ad-ons. In firefox save modus it works. In IE9 it works. Only not in firefox4.
In the former editions of firefox there were no problems.

Extend wireless is simply no longer required as an option. Apple have assumed it will be extended and it is on by default.
With your main base setup.. I gather you are using the A1408??
    Simply factory reset the TC..
Then when you do the setup.. extend wireless is the option that will automatically be offered to you.
I am just going to do it.. Other way around.. but it is the same thing.
    So here we go..
I have factory reset the airport extreme.. and it takes a couple of min for it to come up.
You can also see it in wifi.
You can click on it in either place and get into the auto setup function.
I have no network connection at all on the extreme.. it is simply powered on and close to the computer.
It will automatically offer a name.. for reasons I won't go into here but see C9 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Give the Extending router a name that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. you can do it immediately here.
    Go next..
    Magically it is done..
    Now fix up the errors..
Default password.. in my home this is not an issue.. and I don't want to change it ..
    So I ignore it.
Second error is firmware is old.
But I much prefer 7.6.1 So I have no intention of giving that up..

  • We live in an old Victorian House and have virtually no connectivity on the second or third floor using a  Linksys System, will the Apple Aiorport solve thge problem ? do you need sattelite stations on each floor?

Any advice on Airport solving our second and third floor WIFI connectivity problems welcomed, do we need sattelite stations, ?? do not mind buying the system if it works?

......will the Apple Airport solve the problem?
The broadcast power of all wireless routers is controlled by law, so as you might imagine, devices from varying manufactureres tend to perform about the same. It is very unlikely that an Apple AirPort router would perform significantly better...or worse...than the Linksys device that you have now.
    do we need satttelite stations?
Yes, probably at least one per floor and possibly more, depending on the thickness of the walls in the areas where a wireless signal will be needed. Since you already have a Linksys router, and it is always best to use products from the same manufacturer on a wireless network, it would probably make sense to check with Linksys to see what they suggest as additions to your current router.
It would be a excellent idea to have an IT professional come out and survey the house and take some measurements with test equipment to propose a system that is right for your needs. That will likely save a lot of headaches (and money) down the road.

  • WiFi problems in Windows 7 using bootcamp

    Hi
I have a "new" 2011 27" iMac and are sometimes forced to use Windows 7 with Bootcamp.
I installed the latest drivers using bootcamp assistant (and these seem to date back to 2011, so I guess that's what everybody else is using as well). The windows install is only two days old with all the recent updates installed.
When I start in windows I have two issues:
The major one is that the Wifi is there for around 20 seconds, then the screen flashes (like it's loading graphics drivers or something) and then the connection is lost. When I ask windows to repair it it figures out that WLAN autoconfig is not running and I ask for that to be restarted. Sometimes this will solve the problems, sometimes I have to repeat the "repair" a few times. Once it's working the connection seems stable until I restart.
The wifi works fine with Mountain lion and with all other devices we have. I tried the Apple hardware test and everything worked well.
The only clue I have is that after I installed windows I changed the location of the windows user account folder to the HDD instead of the smaller SSD. I did that by changing the default user folder destination to a MS-FAT formatted drive on the HDD, creating a new administrator account, logged into the new account and deleted the old account... But I just can't see why that should have anything to do with drivers and wifi.
The minor problem is that the sound always start out muted when I start windows. I unmute and problem solved (although annoying).
As I said there's absolutely no problems while I'm in Mountain lion, but there's a few windows only programs I need so...

Thanks for the suggestion Rudegar.  I think I found the problem which was from a different source.  I installed an external hard drive and initated Time Machine in my Mac OSX.  While it worked fine for Time Machine when running Mac OSX, apparantly it was causing a problem with Bootcamp and Windows.  When I realized this might be the problem, I sejected the drive in OSX and turned it's power off.  I then shut down OSX and started up using Bootcamp and Windows as I has in the past with no problems.
    Thanks ayway!
