Use of external jars

I have a project that uses external mysql-connector library.
How do I export my project as jar file to make it work without including mysql-connector library. More specifically, How can I make my stand-alone jar file work on any system without including mysql-connector.jar in it? When I do include it, my jar file is 8MB large.

simple...
Don't put jars inside jars but ship them separately.
They won't work otherwise and you keep your own jars smaller.

Hi,
I have one external jar (SDK) I use for developing J2ME applications.
Every time I have no choice but to copy this JAR (SDK) into my current application lib directory.
I am building a family of MIDlets that I dont want to put into just one huge JAR but rather to have several JAR files for each application.
In C world I need only to tell the linker where it should pickup ".so" or ".lib" file.
Is any way to do the same with WTK? Or any other J2ME development tool?

I tested the WTK2.5BETA and here I ahve strange fact. My application works perfectly on WTK2.1, WTK2.2 WTK2.3 BETA but it crashes with a very weird message on WTK2.5BETA

Using an External Jar file

I was hoping my intro programming class would be easy, as I've done some C++ before, but go figure, it's not.
Although the language/concepts aren't to difficult to learn, it seems compiling programs is. For one program, I'm giving an external .jar file to use. I'm using crimson editor and I do have it setup with the jdk1.6.0. It compiles all my other programs besides this one (command line doesn't work either).
Essentially, I've created a project, I have an instantiable class, and an application class. I can call the instantiable class in the app class and creating/modifying objects works just fine. Then I have a .jar file added to the project that came from the class (supposed to be used for I/O, don't know why we can't just use the standard java classes, but oh well). anyways, when I try to call the methods in the .jar file I get the following error:

After doing some searching, I found that it might be due to the classpath. So I set the classpath to the directory.. no go. Then I set the classpath to the externalJar.jar file and I get the follow error:

I'm at a loss. It works when I use Eclipse and I can just add the external jar file, but I don't want to use eclipse, it's slow and bulky. Any other solutions to this problem? Thanks.

*names were changed for a reason.. i already know i'm not misspelling anything

The error about not being able to find the variable externalJar has nothing
to do with the classpath. It's just that your code in file.java refers to this variable,
but you have not declared it anywhere.
Variables within a class, the names of classes and the names of .jar files
which contain packages have nothing whatsoever to do with one another.
If you are using a variable externalJar intending it to reference your external jar
file in some way, then your file.java code is seriously wrong.
(Also, classes and their associated source files should begin with an
uppercase letter.)
Regarding your attempt to specify the classpath when you invoke the
compiler (always a good idea), I think you should also include the current
directory (if that is where file.java is). Like this:"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0\bin\javac.exe" -classpath C:\folder\externalJar.jar;. file.javaThe "error opening zip file" thing is odd. Make sure you are
able to read it (permissions OK, no other process has it locked). And that
it's not corrupt (Did you create it? If so, rebuild it. If not, aquire another copy.)
Sorry for the generalities and guesswork, but without seeing any code and
without knowing your directory structure or the contents of this externalJar.jar
it's hard to do any more.

any jar that's on your classpath you can use.
For information on how to use the classes in a specific library your best friend is the documentation about that library.
To have your editor/IDE know about a library, see the documentation for that editor/IDE.

Using an external JAR library

Hi, I'm trying to use the JFreeChart library, but I'm having some trouble with getting the classpath set up correctly.
I managed to set the classpath variable to "$HOME/jfreechart-1.0.13/lib/jfreechart-1.0.13.jar", but the Java compiler doesn't appear to be reading the variable.

Getting error while calling external Jars in BPEL by using Java embedding activity in soa 12c

I am trying to use an external Jars for the business logic implementation. Here I need to pass XML as input and
and I expect the "Password " field has to be return.
Following are the steps I have followed:
1) Created a java project with sample class and added the external jars into the project "Libraries &Classpath".
2) Created a jar file out of it.
3) Created a BPEL project with Java Embedding.
4)Wrote the java code in java embedding activity.
4) Added the above created jar file to the BPEL project's lib/jar and added in SCA-INF/lib project folder as well.
5) Imported the package with the class as in the jar (e.g <bpelx:exec

6) Deploy the BPEL project.
while deploying the SOA build is sucessful but my depoyment is incomplete.

Hi,
Can you confirm if the BPEL Version is 1.1 or 2.0.
If you are using BPEL 2.0 you need to import the required jar/class file as:
<import importtype="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension/java" location="pkg.testInterface"/>
For BPEL 1.1 the syntax to import other jar/class file is:
<bpelx:exec import="pkg.testInterface"/>
If you import the classes in the correct format you will not face any deployment error.

1)Created a external dc of type external library
2) addedd the jar in the build path
3) added the jar in the lib folder of the webdynpro project

Hi Sidharth,
If you are using web dynpro DC perspective then you need to follow the following points to use the external jar files in it.
1. Create a external library project.
2. copy the external jars in the library folder os the projects.
3.) Select all the jars from the u201CLibrariesu201D folder, Right click and then select Development Component and click on Add to Public Part
4.Select the first Radio Button (Provides an API)and give some nameto it.
5. Repeat the step no 3 but now select the second radio button other than as selected in step no 4.
6. Now build your lirary DC.
7. Now create a j2ee DC project.
8. ) Expand the node DC Definition and Right Click on Used DC. Select Add Used DC.
9. Select the External Library DC with build time dependency.
10.Right click on the J2EE DC and then select Development Component followed by Build
11. Right click on the J2EE DC and then select Development Component followed by Deploy
now you can use both the libary DC and the j2ee DC in your web dynpro DC as used DC.
But if you have created a web dynpro project only(but not DC) than you can directly add the external jars in java build path

For user defined functions, it is not necessary to use the external jar files.
Just follow the below steps:
       1.      To create a new user-defined function, choose <b>Create New Function</b> in the data-flow editor at the bottom of the screen, on the left-hand side.
       2.      Specify the attributes of the new function in the subsequent window:
Name:
Technical name of the function. The name is displayed in the function chooser and on the data-flow object.
Description:
Description of how the function is used.
Arguments:
In this table, you specify the number of input values the function can process, and name them. All functions are of type String.
       3.      In the subsequent window, you can create Java source code:
                            a.      You can import Java packages to your methods from the Imports input field, by specifying them separated by a comma or semi-colon:
You do not need to import the packages java.lang., java.util., java.io., and java.lang.reflect. since all message mappings require these packages and therefore import them.
In addition to the standard packages, you can also specify Java packages that you have imported as archives and that are located in the same, or in an underlying software component version as the message mapping.
                            b.      Create your Java source text in the editor window or copy source text from another editor.
       4.      Confirm with Save and Close.
       5.      User-defined functions are limited to the message mapping in which you created the function. To save the new function, save the message mapping.
       6.      To test the function, use the test environment.
The new function is now visible in the User-Defined function category. When you select this category, a corresponding button is displayed in the function chooser pushbutton bar. To edit, delete, or add the function to the data-flow editor, choose the arrow next to the button and select from the list box displayed.

Using External JAR file within Web Dynpro DC

Hi,
I have created a Web Dynpro DC and I need to use an external JAR file.
I want to use this external JAR file within the same Web Dynpro DC and NOT creating another DC to house the external JAR file as I can see from the blog.
I have included the external JAR file in the "lib" folder of the Web Dynpro DC.
When I tried to perform a DC build, it keeps complaining error....
How should I solve this problem...

Including External JARs for Java Application in OC4J

Hi Experts,
Here is my requirement.
I have developed my Java application using Tomcat Server & Eclipse. In my application I have used some External JARs & imported the classes in my JSP.
Now that I'm using OC4J Server instead of Tomcat I'v no clue as to where I have copy these External JARs for my application to work.
I have installed OBIEE-Client which includes OC4J server. The path where I have placed my application is as below
*"C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app"*
If I run my application the server does not import the classes in the JSP which we include using Import statement using JSP tags (*ex* - <%@ page import = "org.apache.commons.fileupload.*"%>).
This is the location which I found, where I need to put my Java-J2EE application. This OC4J_BI comes with OBIEE.
Kindly help me out on where to place these External JARs exact location in OC4J.
Also let me know if I have to alter any configuration/xml file (if so pls specify the file name & its location).

You can either include the external libraries in the application, by placing them into WEB-INF/lib, or you can import them into the server as "shared libraries", normally you'd use the "enterprise manager" application to do this. Having loaded a shared library you then add it to the classpath when you're deploying the application.

How to include external jars - URGENT...

I am using Eclipse for development.
My application uses some external jars.
This step is simple in Eclipse, one simply indicates where the jars are to the IDE.
However, when I make an executable JAR file from my project, those external JARs are not included.
So when I run my program, everything is fine until the parts that uses the external JARs.
Does anyone know how to include them outside of Eclipse platform?
I am going to see my client in an hour and of course I can't bring my source and install an Eclipse at my client's computer to show them my demo...

You add those external jars to the classpath or the jars classpath if you're running the program from a jar. Or put the external jar to JAVA_HOME\lib\ext (IIRC)

How to include external .jar libraries

I'd like to use an external .jar library in my Java program.
I import the package in the source code.
But where do I have to specify the file location of the .jar file. Do I have to add its directory to the PATH environment variable or somewhere else??? So far I've done this only in Eclipse, but now I'm working in a pure linux environment... with no IDE.

Or specify the classpath completely when you run javac.
For example to compile a class called Foo in the current directory which uses classes from an external jar file I would say
javac -cp .:../../whatever.jar Foo.javaAnd if Foo has a main() class:
java -cp .:../../whatever.jar Foo(If you are working with a number of projects each with lots of classes and lots of (different) jars, it might be time to look at Ant.)

Exception while adding External Jar files in NWDS

i have now jar files in the server and the application referring to the jar files. everything is deployed fine. however, when i start the application..i get the error -"package jcifs.smb does not exist". the jar i am using is jcifs-1.2.7.jar. in my web module when i expand the jar i see the package and the .class files inside. what am i missing?
Also, i din't define a SharingReference to usermanagement in portalapp.xml as i am working towards a pure j2ee enterprise application. the web module (DC) referes to the jar files. is there any step similar to defining the sharing reference for the web module DC?

External Jars in program

Sorry I know it's not an eclipse forum, but I couldn't get answers anywhere, so I hope someone here can help.
I have browsed the net a lot, and found that a lot of people are having similar issues, however I did not manage to make this work .
I have an rcp application which is just a GUI for using my application.
I also have another eclipse java project which has the core classes.
I want people to be able to use either the GUI or directly the JAR file created out of the second project.
Now the troubles :
the second project uses external jars, which I do NOT want to be packaged. I want the users to get those jar separatly and place them in the appropriate folder.
The first one (GUI) uses the second project (well it uses its jar file).
Inside eclipse I can make it work fine, problems come whenever I want to export either the GUI or the JAR from the second project.
What I would like to achieve is the following :
1) If they want to use the GUI, then there is a lib folder in its tree where they have to place all the external jars (and maybe the second project jar too, well I guess)
2) If they want to import the second projet jar in their own application, they have to get the external jars too and place them .... (somewhere? same directory I believe)
Now I have tried everything I found on the net without success : Add External Jars, add Jar, runtime tab, build-path, class-path, Project dependency, manifest etc ... in second or both projects.
I know the solution is somehow in those, but I just can't get it to work. Usually I get export errors on the RCP, sometimes its during execution.
If anyone could explain me step by step what I should do to achieve what I need, I would greatly appreciate it because it's kind of driving me mad.

Don't worry about how many JAR files you end up using. Don't go out of
your way to add JARs unless you know you need them. Typically, you write
code based on what you learn from research and add the JARs you need.
Usually, you won't acquire a lot of unnecessary JARs, but even if you
do, it doesn't hurt (except for a bit of diskspace).
Later, you'll discover which JARs you did or didn't need.
In short, don't worry about this. Just move ahead. You're on the right
track since you chose Java in the first place.
